There's a lot of great ideas around here and I hope i won't repeat somebody elses.
1) Titan crashsite [or any other huge ship, for as far as I know titans don't fall down so often as we would like them to]
Two groups race eachother to get intel stored in said ships mainframe. Starting location in some distance from the target, and probably the only spawnpoint, except for uplinks [maybe some still working systems preventing use of those onboard?]. In order to enter ship squad would have to either hack some hatch [which should take quite a long time] or blow some part of hull weakend by the fall with firepower.
The most important part of this is that it should be module to put on any map, be it our beloved plateaus, jungle, icy canyon or sea of lava [spaceship rapidly drownin in molten rock to pace up play anybody?]. And make it crash with some randomness, each time turned diferent way, tilted to left or right at different angle [not sure if decks architecture would allow for reasonable movement when put on side, but surely upside-down ship would be great]. Maybe some randomly collapsed corridors. And as a cherry on top, dead bodies of crew ^^
~~~~~
2) Enormous island made of dead coral reef.
It could be cover for entrance to some underwater facilities that we need to get to.
Surrounded by ocean [make it violet coloured ocean, with lets say... green sky, or anything different that what we have on earth]. Extremely jagged surface, really difficoult to cross for ground vehicles. Lots of different sized caves, single and whole complexes. Some parts of reef could be destroyable [maybe signalised by different colour or something] to create a shortcout through cave systems/surprise enemy standing on top of destroyable fragment.
==
I think that highly randomizable maps would be the key to not making gazillions of maps for all planets out there and without implementing truly destructible enviroment [which would by really great, but oh well, can't have everything]. |
i would like a map that is large enough to actually need the vehicles to get to the enemy base, maybe each team starts on a different island,
i can imagine loading everyone up in dropships and flying to the enemy base for a big battle, would be kinda like that scene on starwars the clone wars, |
VIP recovery misssions are a good opportunity to make maps that would fall outside of industrial needs (factories/mines/etc.), as you could set them up anywhere a VIP could feasibly crash a shuttle or something. So i'd like to see some more Non-Industrial settings, i.e. jungles, plains, cityscapes that aren't yet ruined with war. Places that look like a nice place to be if it weren't for the hoards of semi-immortal mercenaries blowing the crap out of it.
I don't know if this has been said but I think skill requirement for ice/lava/gas planets is a good idea So highly trained teams will have the skills to take on such missions and not new players it will give players something to work up to and these kind of missions will have higher pay outs because of the hostil environments the teams will encounter thay could also need certain types of equipment such as sensor boosters and optic staberlizers and maybe weapon heater on ice planets so the guns don't jam I know all this may be going a bit too deep but just a idea |
Situation: Jovian craft has crashed. It is set to explode but two warring groups are close by and are trying to extract technology and get out before it explodes.
Setting: Possibly jungle-themed, debris-laden crash site and flattened area, and in-ship gameplay. This fills most of the requests about tilesets and settings that have been mentioned.
Goal: Extract technology
Start: Players land on an MCC and deploy.
Gameplay: Capture the flag-esque, players compete to gain access to the ship and get out with the technology scattered among the wreckage. The technology could emit a pulse so players can locate them on the minimap and locate enemies trying to make off with them.
Each technology could be worth a different score (different sized pulse on radar?) and be hidden deeper into the wreckage. Whoever has the greater technology extracted wins.
The technology could provide special abilities to players who are carry them (faster move, more dps, or negative effects like slowly die from radiation)
Boosts: Technology could be captured and placed inside decryptors. The decryptors would be vulnerable to being captured, but after a certain amount of time, the decryptors would provide a boost to all units (maybe in conjunction with the abilities mentioned above).
Hazards: There could be automated Jovian guardians roaming the wreckage, possibly hard to kill and very dangerous. They could be fairly passive unless you're escaping with technology or in there way. They could be setting explosives throughout the crash site.
Salvage: Perhaps weapons can be found that can only be found on this maps in limited quantity.
Ending: The technology, even those in the decryptors, must be brought back to the MCC before it vacates the planet and the area goes super nova. |
Actually a Battleship is about 2km long and would fit nice on the field. Two sides would spawn on opposite ends and have to race to the crash site. Would really give a sense of scale to the ships of EVE. |
@valkyrs : Such a situation would have huge ramifications in New Eden. This would have to be a lore event akin to the Jovian fleet or Gurista assasination events. Good idea for making history. I posted, so i'll have to suggest. This one is two-fold
Map : Lost Paradise Setting : Amarr temple converted into a Blood Raider cult-house. The golden spires are stained dark and splashed with blood. Wicked-looking contraptions for draining clones' blood are within. Modes : Skirmish (Craterlake-Fallen Angel design), Ambush, Rescue
Explanation of Rescue : Free as many of your captive brethren as possible! Note that there are no victory conditions, but more freed souls gains you more ISK and SP. Setup : Somewhat similar to Skirmish. A/B/C are always in defender hands, and a random one releases a prisoner to escort. This point re-randomizes each time the right one is activated. How to "Score" : Attackers just hack the correct point. The prisoner is loosed and runs toward attacker lines/dropships. This scores when he/she reaches safety. No points for those not freed, half for those killed, and full for those extracted. Defenders simply hold off the attackers, and/or try to kill escaping prisoners. Full points per prisoner for keeping a prisoner, half points for killing an escapee, and no points if they escape. |
Incorporate tunnels into battlefield that can be utilized strategically. Allow players' movements to other areas possibly undetected if entry/exit points are not monitored. Allow tunnels to be large enough for movement (for players, not vehicles) and ground combat scenarios to occur underground. Also, consideration for buildings and structures to be entered/exited. Towers with stairwells that snipers can post at but can be demolished by tanks or specialized explosives.
So, I have no idea if anyone has given an idea like this yet, and it's way too late for me to read through 15 pages of this (but I'm totally doing it tomorrow because this looks like and awesome thread) but I was just reading this and thought to myself "this would be a badass dust map.
Anyway, just read the first little intro of this Wikipedia article, and tell me you don't agree.
i have a few ideas: Game modes:
////Client Rescue//// Summary: As a Merc your paid to protect both your corporations and your client's assets, but what if your paid to recover the battered husk of a Battle-cruiser that your client once owned, and therefore has some very valuable cargo?
//how the mode is played out//
an eve pilot is being chased down by pirates or members of a rival corporation. upon destruction of the ship, that pilot can have the option of crash landing into a nearby planet. upon resurrection, the pilot can then issue an contract calling for his ship to be scavenged and delivered to the pilot. a series of droplinks scattered throught out the map must be built, secured, and held for as long as possible. the first team to hold onto the drop links the longest and reach the time necessary to establish a connection to the client wins the battle. Hacking plays a vital role in securing droplinks. once hacked, you can actually cut or falsify coordinates to the client. as they could warp to another part of new eden or on a different part of the ship.
bigger ships means Bigger contracts which also mean bigger battlefields. which also means more droplinks.
on a side note, the contract is time based as your rivals can also make an offer to other rival mercs to help them scavenge the ship. it goes as a first, come first served basis.
success of the mission for the mercs means a contract fulfilled, and earning their keep while also claiming a finder's fee on the ships' cargo. it also benefits the client, as he dosen't have to waste as much ISK on buying and/or rebuilding a ship with the same specifications. failure would mean that the rival corporations, or bandits, pirates etc will keep it all. ////
Other ideas are great, but I must say a map like this is something I would like to see a lot.
Also maybe a large map covered with mountainous terrain, or one with a lot of forest areas, making it difficult for people to shoot and for tanks and things like that to get around. Then Dropships can't see what they're firing on below and such. |
I have a couple of suggestion.
The first is a modification of the titan crash maps. What if the crash in not a bellyflop but actually a nose dive. These means you can have multiple levels squashed down ontop of each other making it almost maze like. The advantage of this is that you could have interchangable blocks of passageways that could make the maps easy to randomise. The only issue is whether the space could take into account vehicles. I would also suggest instead of a titan what about an MCC.
Second suggestion is for a type of battle. In Team fortress there is a mod called payload. This requires a bomb to be moved to a location to win. This would be idea for the Dust world. You want to destroy an enemy PI installation well why not remove it completely. After all the merc don't care if they die. This would also push the working together aspect to players.
-Urban -Vehicle map -Story-line -station -desert perhaps? -hostile environment (vicious animals that attack because the battle invades their habitat) -jungle (sniper's dream map) -space - Agent missions (fight with a team to take a station back from evil pirate NPCs) -Merc Wars (If Mercenaries are able to form corporations then why not war between them?) -Faction Alignment (Have the option to battle only for one Corp or Alliance you are completely loyal to) i.e.- you become a soldier not a merc -Evacuation (Sansha's Nation is still a invading, why not help innocent civilians escape the impending doom? For a price of course...heheh) -Rescue (rescue a prisoner from a prison or some sort of facility) -Fights for/on capital ships (would be cool I guess)
Those are my thoughts, but I think story-line would be the coolest out of all. It would be sooooo awesome to actually play a part in the Caldari - Gallente War or the Amar - Minmatar War. |
I would love to see some of those planetary vehicles i lug aound while in space on the ground.
Would be cool if they could be hacked and quickly driven about the map, no shields no armour just fast moving paper thin transport, as much for fun as tactical value.
kinda like the mini digger in bf3, raid a car park full of them and charge off to the next objective. |
Another idea:
How about a high-speed convoy hijack mission? Only a few people are attacking and only a few are defending. Its a limited amount of people on both sides, and for both sides, there are no respawns (can be changed accordingly). The objective for the offensive team is to either hack the controls or to destroy the engine. If you choose to destroy the engine, you need to set a charge which takes a rather quick time to do, but takes a fair amount of time for the timer to run down, allowing time for defenders to defuse. On the other side, if you take the controls, it takes time to hack but when you're done hacking, you win. I'm not sure if this idea has been stated, but I think it could work. I'll be working on more ideas for this topic, and I'll see what I can think up.
EDIT: also, I saw this idea earlier for Assassinations, which leads me to thinking for Spec Ops Missions? High-paygrade but are the toughest missions. Basically, no respawns, do or die, high priority targets; things included under this: assassination, destruction of large targets, ship/war-barge hijacking, major defense for said targets, stealing special corporation secrets, backstabbing, etc. Payments for these missions are either nothing for failure, or millions in ISK, blueprints, etc. |
Well after reading Templar One I think a similar map would be perfect. A fight over a space elevator as well as possibly retrieval of items from a downed ship. Raid on a factory? I sure enjoy the whole concept of the large scale war but some CQB urban indoors style maps would be great. Maybe a Map series where your group fights through 3 stages to attack a base, enter a building and capture it then maybe another outdoors fight to hold it..
Wish the map layout was a lot more like normal MMOFPS such as Planetside where you are in a large continent and can move around from area to area. Consoles I imagine limit that...
It's like EVE was... small and twitchy, but hopefuly like EVE intime we'll be in huge maps with large amounts of fighting in sections of the maps where vehicles can really be used in coordination with troops like a large scale fight would really have. |
