As i read through these posts i see similar map ideas which exist in games already out there, a huge amount of map ideas....
We need something that is Unique, that doesn't define Tribes, BF2142, Cod, MW4,Halo or any other game out there.. Zombies? nah..
How about aliens which have their own unique abilities, flying giant tentacle thingy's? Damage over time area effects from plant life... the list is endless.
How about a map where the fighting is done in a crashed ship or structure? a Battle station or fighting on board a Armageddon which is slowly falling to earth via a malfunctioning anti-grav drive, the object of that map is to restore power to its critical systems while fighting the other side who wish to suicide the ship?
Other ideas spring to mind On other maps which include Dense scenery to hide in, none of the moon base rubbish were seeing currently.. Planetside has them so should we, dense forests (yes i know ps3 cpu not that great but im sure with low pixel stencils you can come up with something. its eye candy and strategy).
I want to see a game that breaks most of the current Genre of Multiplay FPS's , Eve online did that in terms of Space RPG lets see Dust514 Redefine the FPS shooter genre.

PVE maps on SOME life-bearing planets where mercs will be attacked by indigenous predatory animals as they try to complete their objective. I am not asking for humanoid aliens, and I am not asking for aliens with human-level intelligence. I want to see plausible alien animals evolved to fit their specific environments. I want to fight moderately intelligent pack of small predators, and giant insect-like animals the size dinosaurs. The environments themselves can be things like jungles with strange kinds of vegetation with different colors.

It might be neat to have to sabotage or destroy an enemy fleet on the planet's surface before it can scramble to orbit for defense. Maybe frigates or cruisers based on the scale of people vs ships in EVE. The ships in question could easily be NPC or Pirate ships so that people aren't all, "Hey, where did all of these ships come from anyways?," since there are pirates in basically every system.
Attacks on these Pirate run operations could lead to the discovering of Faction ship BPCs for the EVE community so that we, the DUST ground pounders, actually have a method of providing those sissy spacers with some cool (possibly unique?) new toys. EVE players always want new ship types after all ;)
An assault on a ship production plant would be fun as well, large moving machinery piecing together ships or ship components as the attacking side pushes towards a main control hub. Being smushed by big machinery is always neat, and you could have improvised mounted weapons from various lasers / welders / etc. being used to put pieces together. Also, a close-quarters map such as this could be vehicle-unfriendly for those who do not prefer vehicles, and could be a specific mission offered via EVE players to attack a planet's industry or infrastructure to hinder output of commodities without having to actually take control of planet. Such an assault could be great for smaller corps / alliances trying to poke away at a larger enemy's resources when they lack the ability to launch a full siege.
An assault on a production complex could even be a DUST only goal which could provide the victorious corp with a limited supply of vehicles or supplies.
Finally, in EVE we can play the Pirate role... Is there any feasable way to play the Pirate in DUST? Perhaps Pirate NPC (Sansha, Guristas, etc.) hired assaults on EVE player owned planets or installations? Hell, even DUSTer led attacks on EVE players' stuff! (Though that could be problematic if the DUST hordes get too bored and decide to go on a rampage) |

Below is a link to a sketch I put together regarding a potential map. It's designed for the gaseous planets in EVE. The map contains two floating cities (each city approx size of the Communications Ambush Beta Map). Each city contains objectives (download, hack, destroy, etc) and Mercs can "jump" between the cities via transportation portals. LAV/HAV's can utilize dematerializes to transport from one city to the next and dropships can just fly between them.
Each city has tall/short structures, a "Command Center", a series of underground access platforms. The layout of the cities is completely open for suggestion/change but my idea of the buildings, ground "playing area", etc are that they are almost 100% metal structures. The atmosphere in the pic is an orange-peach color and the sky is made up of 90% clouds. Idea came from Cloud City in Empire Strikes Back. I'm sure y'all have a super smart team of expert designers and graphic artists that can come up with something a little more original... Something more "spacey" with a faded planet or some moons visible in the sky. My intent is to get the idea across.

i was thinking of a ship to ground battle you spawn in a ship u have 2 ways of getting down to the tower that is 1 of 4 towers blocking u wit a barrier around a city u take out the one and u can get thru the way i see it the 2 way to get down is taking a dropship or jumping off the ship and dive to the ground on the tower first mission is to take a spawn point next mission is to take out the core that would be an epic fight

Just for the wormhole addicts a tropical city belonging to one of them wormhole artifacts races whatever there names are and the building archetecture changes acording to the race. Ofcoarse its been abbandoned ( or destroyed) so the tropical forest has begun to engulf the city. Your mission mutch like capter the flag find the artifact bag it tag it and secure it back at base. Ofcoarse it be a large map no fun if u can just walk out ur base door and the artifact is there. If u need a little extra challenge sleeper drones are guardian the artifact so be carefull theyll attack anyone |

I get it man. I think it's an awesome idea. Cool that we both imagined 30 floors . Just seemed like the right amount of floors. The "stair stepping" of spawn points as you work your way up/down is interesting. I think it would make a great strategy-based map. Kudos! |

Seriously, +1 this all the way. Maybe at some point EVE could have invasion mechanics, troop carrier ships that ferry the immortal Sleeper-tech'd brethren of the capsule-jockeys to a battlefield already teeming with mercs and their clones. Imagine jumping off the ship with 0 clone reserves, and having to take the nearest clone facility to even gain the ability to respawn in time! I'm drooling. |

a planet whose sun has been blocked by ash erupting from a volcano in the center of the map. the wreckage of fallen titans should be scattered throughout the battlefield. we should be able to enter them, providing a unique close quarters environment with a large amount of cover. and each ship sould be from one of the four different races. there should also be evidence of a fallen civilization torn apart by war. the map would simply be titled "ruin". |

Rather then comment a theme etc like most I'm going to mention an idea.
I want to see more destructible environments. On top of this I would prefer it if it not only was cosmetic (breaking telephone poles or glass) but actually had an actual effect on the battlefield such as destroying a bridge or a building collapsing after you destroy all its weight-bearing supports.
Also along these lines I'd like to see maps with actual interactive environments beyond get in the turret or hack the supply depot. Such as if you get past this buildings defenses you can lower a gate. You can turn on search lights. You can access a dam that floods an area. etc. I just would like to see more life in the environments.
This in turn makes me think of yet one more thing. Objects in the game that actually move. I giant fan. Pistons etc. I would honestly like to see some heavy machinery or something going on. The maps currently are mostly dead and aside from some sparks and smoke, rather boring. Especially after you leave the predesignated fighting area.
So please rather then just make a bunch of different kinds of maps, could you add quality and interest to your maps? |

My ideas are pretty simple (even thought it's not that simple to just create a map) but since we have a variety of planets in our universe maybe we could use that to bring some ideas.
1 - Volcanic Map
2 - Arctic/Ice Map
3 - Jungle Map
4 - Abandoned City Map
5 - Island Map (for smaller games)
6 - Floating island map (suspended in the sky).
7 - finally a not so great but just an Idea would be a toxic planet Map (where it contains certain "acid" areas where you get killed).

Playing some DOTA2 today in the server downtime, and it dawned on me.....
I would really like to see a traditional yet DUST themed 'Defense of the Ancients' (DOTA) map. Many games take from this map layout, and some of these games, - it's the only map available -- LOL, HON, DOTA, DOTA2.
While I realize DUST is not a top down game like dota & friends, but the objectives and mechanics seem like a DOTA style map would be, hella fun and fit right in.
basic idea...if you've never played DOTA...
'Jungle' between lanes with some dangerous NPCs, cool hide outs, caves, etc. the traditional DOTA 3 lane layout with 3 towers in each lane for each team's side.
Tower defense and destroy, destroy the towers and the main enemy base to win.
or whatever CCP can dream of, but I think a spin-off of the DOTA map would be great, or a spin off in game play.

My favorite matches are close ones. So with this in mind is my map idea.
Cloning Facility:
Skirmish:
As the number become further apart, have the "cloning bays" come alive and start deploying troops to rebalance the numbers. When the numbers start to become more stable have the clones retreat or de-activate.
Ambush: Team 1 has full control of the cloning vats and defends them while Team 2 sabitoshs team1 while also taking control of some of the vats (but not all). |

how about different gravity effects on different plants, meaning higher gravity rendering drop ships un-flyable (can only move along the floor), grenades and weapons dont travel as far, u cant jump as high and everythings runs abit heavier...... lower grav everything gets knocked up a gear.... faster, higher, further..... u get the idea =) (mite work better on ambush tho) |

actually, I think that It would make making maps easier considering that the Eve players will be "making" the maps. All ccp has to do is make the terrain and help configure more structures like planetary jump drives and that big gun that can kill a dread. |

BUGS!
Have an alien Bug hive that has attacked the installations. There will be a bug count where both teams can see. Different type of bugs - such as Warrior Bugs, Regen Bugs, Flyer Bugs. Bugs will attack both teams, but will be divided between teams. You will try not to kill the Bugs that are attacking opposing team. Teams also attack each other. There will be different hackable devices that will allow safe areas and/or bonuses etc. Bugs can also be flipped to attack opposing team.
After all opposing Bugs of your team are exterminated, Queen shows up. Whichever team kills the most Bugs and opposing team and either saves the Queen (for archeological research) or kills the Queen (to dangerous to let live) - each team will have the objective of either killing Queen or Saving it) whoever succeeds in said objective wins match.
This kind of puts an interesting twist to standard Skirmish by adding a third party to the engagement. In addition, the faster you kill the Bugs opposing you - the sooner the Queen shows up and then you either kill the Queen or save it. The team that doesn't kill the Bugs as quickly - will have opposing Bugs to contend with when the Queen shows up - making their final objective more difficult (but not impossible). |

I dont think that it is physically attatched. Probably uses magnetism. |
