Forums Veteran wrote:This one's the big one, though. I want to see a well-done forest, and I want to see plants that have nothing to do with terrestrial life. I get that there's only so much to do with individual models, and organic things are much, much harder to make, especially with a low primitive count.
I have never seen a shooter handle a truly verdant area well - something like the forests I grew up running around in, the Boreal forests of Canada/Alaska/the northern US/northern Europe and Russia, with close-packed trees, thick patches of undergrowth, and rolling, glacier-carved terrain, dotted with the massive boulders of the glacial till.
I'd even be fine with the more open idea - some mix of California redwood/sequoia forests and the forest moon of Endor, with massive-trunked trees making organic pillars to hold aloft the vaulted cathedral of the canopy above...
Please, though. I really want to see good FPS combat in a forest/jungle setting. Fixed it for you to properly illustrate where you find that kind of nature :) I would actually also love to see this kind of nature in a game, can't see I have actually ever seen it before. |

I would like to see a village similar to star wars Episode 1 where the Pod Racing took place. The map should contain a beat up village, a landing dock, and canyons so we can go crazy with vehicle warfare. It would be interesting to have these villages as strategic depots. Just to spice it up a bit have electrical storms blow in and out during the game. You can even have a blow hole or broken pipe that blows gas out of it at any unknown random time. If your timing is right and an enemy is nearby ignite the gas with a single shot and blow them off the map. |

I just want to see more color in the battlefield. Maybe a battle on a massive air carrier and you have to control points inside while fighting off the enemy in "air to ground" vehicles. That would be cool... |

A fleet crashed on a planet with a Titan.. good concept!
Though personally I would love to see what a Jovian mystic planet would look like. maybe that's a great planet for lasers? plant life and liquid could literally glow in the dark. maybe due to a chemical in the air or soil? Dust soldiers mixed with the soldiers from Final Fantasy the movie. give them glowing head gear so they can see. Vehicles would be wicked to see in a dark environment. Any facility on the planet would have exposed power cables that spark ever so often from some sort of blast which had ripped the facility open and exposed it to the elements.
i understand the Jovian to be extremely high tech so the facility might be a high tech processing facility being several stories. 20% underground, 80% towering into the sky. battle arena could be 75% outside environment, and 25% facility. could even incorporate a tunnel in the lowest level out into the environment. something like an escape tunnel or for air?
Any how, I hope this idea helps spark some inspiration in developing a theme!

Maybe a a map inside a Vast mining complex within an asteroid? barely lit tunnels and maybe a massive internal bay area for vehicle combat? tight corners and confined maneuverability combined with long fire lane like tunnels? maybe objectives could be securing ore/scrap components?
also maybe a overgrown jungle/urban ruin combined map? a massive jungle area leading into an overgrown and ruined urban city? vast skyscrapers and buildings half destroyed houses and craters smoldering wrecks? objectives could be maybe like a black-box? or a raid on an enemy encampment to destroy there resources? |

Taking control of/sabotaging a Titan.
This would be a pretty big deal in both the EVE and Dust universes, but starting off with a troop carrier assault on a Titan, then having the players fight through multiple sections of this behemoth (Engineering, Weapons, Auxiliary Systems, CIC's, Cargo spaces, Launcher bays, etc) would be absolutely boss.
Obviously the scale of this would be pretty big, as compared to simple skirmish missions. |

I would like to see a Unviverse Themed map and basically what I mean is, even if you are on one planet in the sky around you, you can still see other planets, stars, asteroids etc... I would also think it would be really cool if it had a planet really close that looked huge.
Also a map where when both sides spawn in there is a machine that shows the planets' condition like the oxygen, gravity levels, weather conditions etc... and this can come into play where on different parts of the map there are different terrains, like one part is cold and icy, another is misty or foggy (but not too, to where your'e not able to see), really hot, or another part where it's falling apart for nuclear waste and biohazrd or anything. So yep just throwing ideas out there |

*Crash Site*
If only to give non-EVE players, and really EVE players as well, a sense of scale, have a map being a crash site of an EVE capital ship
Imagine a burning capital ship (Avatar?) sticking out of the ground several km from the battle site.
The objective could be a skirmish to install defences in order secure the crash site for salvage |

I don't even know if CPP will be reading this far into the thread, but here goes:
a) Air Maps
Two carrier bases hung at mid-atmosphere, somewhat distant from one another. This would make dropships essential to the operation.
b) Lush, grassy plains
Some planets might not be barren at all. It would be cool to have large patches of grass and watery marshes. I can picture dropships soaring at low level under a distant sunset, my dog looking out the window and smells of pine floating about...wait that's on the way to my cabin.
c) Multi-leveled hole
Some terrain deformation that actually drops down deep underground.
d) Artillery battery map
Huge cannons across a large industrial field, with some gigantic machinery toppled over. It would be cool to havve obstacles, and get logistics to figure out how to overcome them.

a torn up ship in the middle of a jungle, either a recent crash still burining or an old crash with the jungle starting to recaim the wreckage.
the surface of a moon, low grav with structures.
an orbital construction facilty compleat with unfinished ships.
a structure inside an asteriod, explosions can leave you drifting in space.
a map made of just craters with asteroids crashing.
a large planerary facility with ship debris falling from space, one team trying to raise the facilitys shields before a crashing ship flattens the place.
on the surfaces of an asteroid field, ultra low grav firing from asteroid to asteroid (huge jmps between) while the asteroids are potentialy mined by EVE ships (potential to use the surface of EVE ships as land to shoot from, death if they leave the area)
planets with different atmosheres, high O2 for example would result in more disruptive muzzleflash
a war machine factory where players can take control of the weapons of tanks the size of houses, a mix of CQB inside the war machines and vehicle combat between

If we don't get moons with a great view of giant planets in the sky, then the Fanfest 2012 trailer lied to us, and so did this concept art: http://www.technologytell.com/gaming/files/2012/06/Dust-514-concept.jpg Seriously, its such a beautiful view. |

Abner Kalen wrote:I saw the new Total Recall trailer lastnight and got to thinking it would be really awesome to have a few "special ops" maps where you are tasked with infiltrating known headquarters or a terrorist's hideout on a major city on the planet's surface. I know it's not the grand warfare that Dust514 will be mostly known for, but there were still dropships in Mass Effect 2, and all out cityscape battlefields in Mass Effect 3. I really would like to see some great planetary strategy as well based on what battle you choose to take first (Slay, or Risk type strategy - should I infiltrate the headquarters and fight in the city, which gives an advantage if taken early, or should I go for the cloning facilities which gives unlimited clone reserves for other battles on the planet?) I'm probably off topic... :) Here's the link for those that want to view it for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWMhADqlPYg
Like this idea, taking it one step further maybe you could be hired to assisanate a CEO/scientist (NPC) or kidnap them. This could take place in an underwater city, only one way in and out, you have to get the NPC out of the city if kidnapping. Then you can ransom them or set them to work on your home planet maybe making equipment or improving weapons. You would then have to stop other mercs trying to capture them from your planet.
Battles on stations or ships would be good or even whilst space walking in zero g, one side trying to fix the station/ship the other trying to blow it up. |

Terrain: Lava Planet Locations: CreoDron Defense Platform / ORE Automated Mining Platform
Description: War is hell, and these maps proves it.
Meet the CreDron Defense Platform. An anti-orbital combat array capable of walking from one district on the planet to another. A layer of outer computer terminals provide access to the inside of the facility. The inner halls begin to glow with the heat of the planet as you wade through your opponents. There are several computers to hack at the center of the facility that can be hacked to finalize acquisition by disabling the environmental controls to help "evacuate" the rest of the residents and take full control.
Meet the ORE Automated Mining Platform. Several turbines work as mineral separating centrifuges, gathering precious materials from molten slag before spewing the waste out to flow through the confines of this production facility, generating an immense amount of power that discharges randomly from within the generator room. Several automated dropship drones, heavily armored and shielded, work in the background, scooping up loads of magma from around a central laser drilling station and dropping them in the various chutes, while the main mining laser feeds the entire monolithic structure |

I would love this.
Based on this video, the terrain is generated through height maps, while gameplay structures are placed by hand. This way, a player could just request a height map size of their choosing (Within the limits of the game of course, don't want to melt your PS3s do you? o_O), then use brush tools (similar to those in PhotoShop or GIMP) to alter the terrain's elevation. This could be done with the PlayStation Move or DualShock 3 quite easily, while M/KB would make it even easier. Have one button mapped for increasing the elevation, and one button for decreasing the elevation.
Once the terrain is built, you get to select the "Theme", which includes a suite of textures, sounds, effects and structures you can use to populate the map. As in altering the elevation, you can use brush tools to "Paint" the terrain, having the ability to blend different textures together. Once that's done: 1. Place the structures 2. Spawn points 3. Set the lighting/tone/mood/ time of day of your map 4. Add any special weather effects (Only those on a pre-set list, and only one per map perhaps?) 5. Test the map 6. and submit to CCP for moderation. :)
I believe something similar has been done for ModNation Racers. I only tried the beta for that, but even then, the map creation tools were simple and real effective! |

I actually think that the EVE Online players could "create" a map using planetary interaction... or at least it should be like that. What do you think? |
