I hope that you all (CCP) stick to your guns, Green Light Legion, push the PC version through and then get to work on a PS4 port asap.
So long as it's technically feasible, it seems like that's the direction you as a company would want to go anyways, to open the game up to as many potential customers as possible, and to not completely abandon your console playerbase.
I'm looking forward to any and all Legion news, hound Hellmar for that Green Light!

So, you're saying you guys are knowingly screwing us over and not doing anything about it? You guys don't even know if you'll be able to transfer anything over from Dust to Legion (if you're even looking into it at all). You're also not even sure if they game will be an actual thing yet since you started four months ago without knowing if it'll be approved. As I've said before, many of us console players aren't about to rush out to get a gaming PC (in excess of 1000 dollars sometimes) just to play a game that will kill Dust 514; a game many of us have spent 2 years playing. |

Dust and Legion are not the same game. They've stated it themselves. They are separate games on separate platforms. Dust 514 might not even get any more integration to EVE now. Also, from the sounds of it, Legion won't have EVE integration for at least a year. |

I understand where you're coming from on those quotes, and it absolutely wasn't my intention to lie to people. We are still fully committed to developing those games (as mentioned several times), and furthermore DUST and Project Legion are both very much part of the EVE Universe. Again, I understand where you're coming from and it wasn't my intention to come across as "lying" to people - prior to the reveal it was difficult for me to explicitly state the distinction between the work on DUST 514 and Project Legion.
understand that continuing to make a distinction between work on dust and project legion is the root of your problem.

Good luck. CCP is avoiding all Dust related questions and only focusing on Legion questions and concerns, further alienating their Dust community from ever wanting to even look at Legion. |

PC stands for "Personal Computer". Some people lazily intend that to mean "Windows". Is this what you mean by "PC"? If so, can you please stop saying "PC" and start saying "Windows"?
Also, I am guessing you are using Unreal 4 since it makes great business sense for CCP: Unify Valkyrie, Legion, and Incarna using the Unreal 4 engine so that your company has a large bank of skill in the technology you use, and so you can share code between projects if needed...perhaps even allowing players from each game to meet each other from within their respective games.
Now, Unreal 4 has announced support for building for Linux, and Valve is making a big push for Linux, along with their Steam Controller. Given that the barriers and difficulty with cross-platform development are being rapidly removed, can we anticipate a Linux client? |

Legion is a work in progress. 3-4 years MAYBE see it on ps4 once fully developed or where they want it. Not likely.
How about putting EVE on ps4? Its been developed over 10 years now. Bigger market for more moneys.
This should be CCPs top priority. $$$$

I'd say it's more that the requirements placed onto developers by the console companies respectively are far too stringent for what they're trying to pull off to work.
You're looking at the PSN (or XBLive) QA team OKing/Veto-ing everything, you're looking at not having control of your main server, patch times, performance/bandwidth allotment, and so on. It's a giant mess.
There's a lot of complex deals that need to be made before being able to put your stuff up through either network. Sony let CCP jump through some real hoops by letting them even connect to their DB from EVE at all, and even then, they probably had to do it through some hacky backend on the PSN server side, which meant a lot of things just couldn't be done in a timely way. If any of you remember the insanely slow market calls in the early beta, that was likely due to that.
To those that were asking why make something for PS3 at all if they were going to do this? If I had to guess, I'd say sponsored projects. I'm pretty sure PSN gave them some funding to start this project as a PSN exclusive. Had they not done this, do you think this project would have even had the funding to get off the ground?
To those that are angry that their EVE subscription is going into DUST development, I suppose you're also pissed off at Blizzard for using WoW funds to make SC2. Or Diablo 3? Or any developer spending money they made on Franchise X to fund Franchise Y? You need money to pay people to make your stuff.
Also, to those people that are saying that you can do both dev for PS4 and PC at the same time... I strongly suggest you take a crack at development yourselves before suggesting that. Those of us who have worked on hardware or software development know how much you have to go through to even get one minor change committed into the main branch of the project. Now duplicate the red tape, the QA, the testing on both platforms.
PS4 is architecturally similar to the PC, yes. Is the OS? No. It will have its own quirks, etc. You QA a new shader on the PC, and it all looks good. You port it over to the PS4 and find out that some dev for that made some minor change to the way the implementation works on hardware on that and your performance drops insanely. Or you get artefacts or corruption on-screen.
Now you have to get devs involved and taking them away from putting the game together in order to fix something like that.
It's a mess.
CCP's choice to do the PC part first is in my opinion the sanest one. This is coming from someone that has worked with both software and hardware dev. It gets a huge team on the same playing field - they have people shuffling around that have never worked on the PS3 dev kit, or consoles in general. Bring everyone to the same level of experience so that they can hit the ground running with minimal fuss on a platform they're ALL used to working on.
Rants and hatred aside, I do agree with the idea that the way they presented all of this was poor. They could have let everyone know far sooner, and it wouldn't have been as big of a blowup as it was now. Would people have been upset? Yes. Undoubtedly. You cannot please everyone.
I'm sure the developers themselves want nothing more than to tell us all exactly how cool this will be, and how excited they are to be working on this and their ideas and so on. Unfortunately, business doesn't work that way - ideas are worth more than the product sometimes.
I would love a more real dialogue. I'm OK with hearing "I don't know yet", but that's because I've been in their situation a lot myself, and know how absolutely frustrating it is to be in that position - especially when you are the messenger and everyone wants to hang you for it.
In terms of money spent, I don't know what would be the best solution to those that feel cheated about it. Some of us are perfectly fine and understood the risk of investing in this game, treating our expenses into it as sunk costs. I'm not trying to belittle those that feel differently, only trying to say that not all of us are as emotionally distraught by the decisions made so far.
I think Legion has a lot of potential. I can't begin to state how excited I am to see where this goes, but I also understand that projects can and do fail, because of management, bad decisions, luck, or a bunch of other reasons. I've been there plenty.
I wish a lot of people who have nothing constructive to say, and also, those that have nothing better to do than to incite panic, should STFU and let real dialogue occur.
The more posts that occur with floods of BS or the like, the less of a chance that anyone will reply to the thread as a whole because these guys will just be passing over them since they're surrounded in a sea of brown noise.
Anyway, that's my two cents.
CCP should obviously be a bit more tactful in their way of informing their client base. They also need to address a lot of the very valid concerns people are raising. But if you thought that DUST would be on PS3 forever, you seriously need to get your head out of the sand. |

I came here just at the end of closed beta and from as long as I could remember people discussed how strange it was that a game like this would be developed on a system that was nearing the end of its cycle.
When issues arose and PS4 materialized with concrete specs and release date, the calls came again for the game to be moved or at least a hope that a PS4 client was being worked on secretly. Many were outright saying that the game should move to PS4 or at least have a PC client.
All that ever came from CCP was that Sony will support the PS3 for years still and they had a plan to continue to develop and support Dust. The old 80 million PS3's line was always trotted out by supporters and CCP never did anything to inform their playerbase that something new would be on the horizon, especially this soon.
Now a shiny new CGI trailer is out with more rainbows. I just hope people will wait this time to see if a pot of gold really is there.

At the time of closed beta the PS4 was vaporware. I've had a PS4 for awhile now. It is still boring as far as content outside of BF4, which only recently got to be playable. I think given their timeline, they had no choice. It was either PS3 or xbox. I think we were all glad they went down the path of PS.
That aside, it was obvious the PS4 was going to be a different beast, but a better one, to develop on. They could have hit that platform running and grabbed a giant share of PS4 players. They really squandered a big opportunity there, amongst others.
I'm really disappointed in CCP Rouge. Personally, I'd have hired someone with a different development skill set. Going only PC is a step backwards from where the money is heading, and it clearly divides your customer base. There is no guarantee going PC is going to be any better, and if anything, if far more open to hacks. They lament the couple extra steps with Sony development, but just wait until they have to contend with the open internet on an FPS.
