Kevall Longstride wrote:Which is why I'm willing to bet that although the new game may or may not have a connection to Eve in the future it'll be linked to TQ so that CCP can monitor discrepancies and permaban cheaters.
Thats just my own musing by the way. We've not had that kind of detail given to us.
Being linked to TQ won't give them any advantage in that department. FPS hacks, when done right, are largely undetectable. An admin typically has to switch to the player cam during a match and make a judgment call. This is not something CCP will ever be able to do competently. They can't even handle tickets for far less complicated issues.
Then you insert the fact its supposedly F2P, and how long until the individual is right back at it? Maybe a minute.
To make this clear though, I don't see hacking being a supremely large issue during important battles or high level competition with established players. They have a lot more to risk. But you will see it rampantly destroying pubs and absolutely turning off new players at every turn. The game will be ruined in that sector and you can expect it to die very shortly afterwards.
If CCP wants to go the PC route then the game has to be Buy to Play similar to Guild Wars. Losing a monetary investment is the only deterrent that would matter. People who have already invested a certain amount of Aurum should get a copy for free, seeing as how CCP looks like it's aiming to screw them over with some sketchy "Reward system" anyway.

Correct. What that means is they write the software and sell it to people like you and I. That is their sole occupation. When they do play games, it is with the software they have written.

Dear CCP,
Dust 514 is/was awesome and very very special. It was awesome and special not for the gun-play and FPS aspects, but for the teamwork, corporations, alliances and active inclusion of the player base (via forums and CPM) in development. Please never forget this. This is why there is such PASSION in these forum posts.
Although I moved to Eve on an alt a year ago (time constraints+Dust514 forums becoming too addicting during work ), I still enjoy supporting my old corpies and Dust chums from space. It's not much, but it is what I can do for the game and people I have grown very fond of.
Although my lack of recent activity in Dust may cause you to devalue my suggestions, I do offer to you the following very selfish request:
Re-introduce and enhance tie-ins between Eve and this new game. Planet-side forces cooperating with space fleets should be a regular thing. Ensure that chats and other coms are shared between the games. I'm sure the power-brokers in Eve would resist it, but an economic tie-in, even if severely limited, would be terrific.
The dream of an integrated single universe New Eden should not be lost.
Live Long and Prosper
FPS = First Person Support. Kills win battles but it's kinda hard to kill if you're dead and out of ammo.

Although I have not had much if any time to play lately I am glad to see CCP Games moving forward. Thank you for the wonderful continued support on this game and on Eve Online as well. Dust will be missed in the short term as it is really the BEST FPS on PS3 right now.
What I am about to do is partition some 50gb of space on my PC for the next incarnation of Dust/Legion/whatever it's being called. I'm sure it will be a fun ride.
CCP, you know which accounts all tie into this one, please feel free to contact me if you are looking for suggestions, as I've told you during Closed Beta, I am always willing to help.

99% of people who claim they hack are script kiddies. There was a good article yesterday about someone in the Counter Strike community making a product specifically designed to get people banned.
Apparently, the download would work as normal for a period, allowing the player to cheat, then after a specified amount of time, the code would launch an auto bannable offense. He was able to take down several thousand cheaters.
It was really an ingenious way to fight some of the cheating by a random player. Maybe EVE: Phoenix will have someone like that.

Hi.
First of, I'd like to say I appreciate the announcement on the forums. Well done everyone involved.
This wasn't very a surprising announcement, but I'm glad the news is out now. I'm fairly disappointed about not being able to continue playing my favorite game after the end of may though. I've been playing Dust 514 without much of a break at all since the closed beta, so that'll be new.
I read from the announcement that the new game will be completely new and made from scratch, Rattati even quoted the clarification of that. This tells me that the new game is indeed fairly early in production. I worry that the length of time between the end of Dust 514 and the beginning of the spiritual successor will be very long. What are the CPMs expectations? I assume CCP will not have shared any information on that, so you should be good to vent some opinions. How do you hope the transition phase to work?
Personally I hope CCP will be able to keep some of their Dust 514 community together for feedback. I already have some thoughts I'd like to share, but I don't think this is the right time for that. It is my belief that Dust 514 player feedback can be very helpful to the design of the new game.
I'm looking forward to fanfest.
P.S.: I'm very much emotionally attached to some items (Skinweave suits, anyone?). I will likely spend money on any game that has hem, regardless of platform and genre. |

I am not going to spend money on a PC just for one game if that is where are planning on moving it. It was fun while it lasted I guess. For all who ran with Unholy Hategore. peace out guys. It's been fun and frustrating at the same time. PC can do a hell of a lot more than just Dust 2.0 =P Get a PC for a PC, don't get it for Dust. Trust me, there are a lot of really cool games out for PC that you can't get on the consoles that make the investment worth while. Just don't look up **** on it and you'll be fine! Well if I do decide to get one. What would be decent specs that don't cost an arm and a leg.
Hit us up on Discord in the PCBUILDHELP channel. Best to get multiple opinions. Honestly, it is way too early to say anything (not that I could anyway) but best bet is to be able to run Battlefield 4 with decent FPS - which really isn't hard to do

This is my biggest concern. The classic response that CCP uses is "soon", which is bullshit. I would say it will be at least a year before any alpha is done. Then another before a beta, open or closed. Then another year or 2 making adjustments. So, 3-4 years is my guess.

It's been a hell of a ride! WOW! Probably blew $150-$200 on this game, and it may have been worth it! I sniffed my way through 104 cloaker wanna-bes! I counted! And although I wasn't here for beta, I played the **** out of this masterpiece before Rail Rifles were even a thing!
Its moving to PC right? Welp, looks like I'll be playing PS3 games for a few more years.
Regardless, this game was fun to be mad at. Planetside 2 might have more than what DUST514 would ever have, but it was the connection between PC and console that really made it worth playing. When I found out someone on a computer fly there ship in and shoot me from space, I metaphorically and physically exploded. The Devs and their elusive nature may have effected this games progress. I don't know if it did good or bad, but it made their occasional replies to specific players even more great. Er, comically I mean.
Sure it has a couple months left, but meh. I leave most of my belongings to Panthrax, cause he's bae and that's what bae deserves.

Don't flame the CPM, they may have known since they went to their 2nc meeting, but they had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. So don't hate on them, they did not make the decision and if you read some of the statements the were able to tone down the release that CCP was going to send out to give us some hope. Good or bad.
What we should be concentrating on is trying to get some information about the porting of our stuff. Now when I say porting, I do not mean 1 to 1, but some info on what they might be trying to do for all of us that are their player base would be nice.
We are all disappointed even though we knew it was coming, lets try and get something out of it for the new game so we are not left in the dust so to speak.

My last post on these boards, as G Torq, was shortly after FF'14 ...
Today, with the recent news, I'm just here to give my goodbyes to DUST514
Link to full version, incl that of others: http://bammsters.thang.dk/wordpress/dust514-into-that-good-night/
WeGÇÖve bitched and whined and screamed at DUST514; weGÇÖve broken headphones, and cheered in delight, and raged in frustration, and all of that even before the Rouge Wedding. DUST514 did most things wrong, but it got 1 thing very right: The community. Between the game-mechanics encouraging an older audience, and in-game facilities for communicating, between a slightly-mad playerbase, and a developer who accepted that people are people, was built a diverse but emotionally invested community! When past players talk of DUST514, it is usually about the friendships and shared experiences, instead of the shooter-mechanics.
Now DUST514 is soon going into that electrical good night, and DUST 2.0 is coming to the Windows PC platform; Many at Bammsters are console-peasants, and CCP Games is going where we cannot follow, therefore this is goodbye. Yes, we could talk about platform-agnostic tools, conversion-plans and -paths (inter-console-families, Console-PC etc), about ARPUs and related costs, rant about market-saturation and FPS-cheaters, but none of that matters now. On May 30th, 3 years 16 days after release, DUST514 is no more, and players either move on, or hunker down for the wait until the next chapter releases.
