It's not like they even have to refund ALL the AUR just because so many players won't ever make the jump anyways. At least then, those who DO decide to make the switch aren't out all that money, and any who join in later on will still have all their AUR as well. That seems only fair.
Wiping SP just puts everyone on even footing when we start.

Cross I would strongly suggest recommending to CCP that they come out and let the community know they will not be getting much of anything in the transfer from game to game. They should come out and specify what they see as reasonable (exclusive skins, alpha/beta access, some sort of silly icon/profile pic), and then they should come out and specify what they see as unreasonable (ISK, assets, bpos, aurum, so on). I'm fairly positive a good amount of us understand the limits, and the need for limits, on transferable sh*t. CCPs same tired old game of vagaries and borderline lies is not the way to begin this supposed new chapter for a New Eden FPS, especially not on the very same day the new chapter begins. Tell CCP that truth, no matter how ugly or brutal it is, will be what wins CCP back many of the folks here. It would be smarter to prepare people now and create a situation that can only get better, as opposed to mumbling nonsense and tall tales that don't (and knowingly won't) pan out, creating a situation that can and will (as we all know) get extremely ugly for everyone involved. Consider it communicated. The words differ but I have done my best to make that sentiment known even prior to this announcement. Some of the details will take time simply because there are mechanical aspects that have to be addressed beforehand but everyone who's followed my time on the forums knows I'm an advocate for communication and this is certainly no exception.
I've given the message, now like everyone I'm just waiting to see what will ultimately be done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QXc-Ka65QI - This one video sums it all up.
CCP played us like Bernie Madoff played Wall Street.
It was a scam, a con, a sack of lies.
Now we have a post full of lies and trying to save face after they had burned it off live at the 'Rouge Wedding' and the kicker is the playerbase will lose everything and nothing will get ported over, well maybe you get buy a BPO for -ú20 and it will be a Caladri suit with a mechanized dildo shafting you everytime you move forcing your character to praise CCP.
Still CCP have the puppets out in full force doing damage control with water pistols against a apocalyptic event, to the very last man/women/it they stand defending there masters like brainwashed muppets and the kicker is the community voted to be represented by these idiots, talk about turkeys voting for Christmas but that is unfair to turkeys, they provide a purpose and are useful where as the lolCPM have been absofucking useless at every turn and been used by CCP as a marketing tool to convince the playerbase that they listen to the community.
Every patch was a lie, just a breadcrumb to lead you down the path in hope of something good and what was really at the end? nothing
Every AUR sale, padding CCP wallets while they took away more from the game but left just enough on to keep the game alive.
Every dev post a diversion to keep the sheep (playerbase) distracted long enough so the welsh farmer (CCP) can give it a good seeing to.
Even this thread and the opening post is a charade, it would have fitted the playerbase better if they pulled the plug one day with a simple message left saying '**** you', it would have fit perfectly with the game.
The game did not even leave beta, nothing got actually finished, you could not point at one part of the game and say that part is finished and will never be touched again because it was always getting messed with and broken in some form.
It is the only game that I know of where the game was actually much much better at the very start and ended up actually much much worse by the time it got cancelled, these updates were supposed to improve the game and make it better but it did the opposite and the community applauded it en masse and celebrated it.
Now I get to see the game fail on another platform, I may even get an invite to play the new beta where I get to see CCP fail again and ignore a different community and make the same mistakes and hook in a few thousand gobshites who will do exactly as what this community did.

The end is finally nigh. Haven't played in a while (2y) so I guess this will be my last post. I'll use the opportunity to reflect a bit, consider it my obituary.
Closed/Open Beta: The beginning is pretty hazy but I think I managed to squeeze into closed beta by buying a Merc Pack or something. Coming from Iceland I was always a bit bummed out to have missed out on starting EVE early on. I had done CS 1.5 scrims before so I wanted to hop on to the Dust 514 train from the beginning. Dust was the first console game I played so my first week I was cannon fodder content. I have fond memories of being proto stomped by guys in the Imperfects hiding/glitching inside of those things that shoot the rockets from the ground.
3dge of D4rkness: Can't remember how it came to be but I joined probably one of the coolest corps in New Eden, 3dge of D4rkness. If you've never heard of it before it is/was basically a tiny family corp run by a married couple; Maffia- Thug & Latina-Maffia. I loved their comraderie on comms as they filled the rest of us in on who's turn it was to do what house hold chore and if there was going to be sex that night or not. It was the most friendly online game cohort I've ever played with. Very fond memories squading up with pinballuk and other lovely people.
KhroniqBeast: In 3dge of D4rkness I probably played the most with KhroniqBeast, a heavy from the old days. We'd roam around, him tearing sh*t up and shouting on comms "come get some!" and "ohh sh*t!!" as he got low on health or his HMG overheated. I'd follow around as a Minmatar Logi with a Mass Driver and rep tool. We played so much together I was on good speaking terms with his mother. One of my favorite moments was when he had to jump into a closet because some inspector was at the door, and he couldn't be seen (some weird no guests policy). So me and KroniqBeast (and the rest of 3dge of D4rkness) were pretty sick of the Imperfects. Having been inspired by plenty of spy and deceit stories from EVE we conjured up the plan to infiltrate the Imperfects to spy and what not.
Imperfects infiltration: However after a few days/weeks we really started to like it there, so we eventually decided to come clean to Kiane Spero. Thankfully he was pretty cool with it. First I was part of IMPSwarm but shortly after I was moved to Internal Error. As a programmer I really liked that name, something I'd see every now and then in stack traces when programming, but at a time saw on a daily basis in Dust 514. Ohh you bug ridden game!
IE, Ancient Exiles, TeamPlayers: Playing with IE., Imperfects, Ancient Exiles, and TeamPlayers was a lot of fun, got a chance to play with some of the all time greatest players Dust 514 has been graced with. I can't remember the politics of the name changes nor the transitions but some of my most memorable times were joking around with 13ar and chubby chasing CHICAGOCUBS4EVER.
FanFest 2013 & 2014: The most fun times were hands down FanFest. In 2013 I was very fortunate to party with ReGnYuM and Telcontar Dunedain. That year there was a PvP tournament where there were 16 Dust players and 5 EVE players on a team. Those matches were the most fun of all. The screaming and shouting across the room, wrongly placed orbitals. Glorious.
Lazer focused on Playstation 3 development!
FanFest 2014 takes the cake though. What CCP did to the Dust 514 players coming to Iceland that year was horrendous. We show up to the first talk, admittedly still a bit drunk from the night before, and in the first 10 mins or so we get "So what we are going to do now, is to make a new FPS on PC, cloned from Dust". That is when Dust 514 died for me, not by this announcement. We were so bummed out we effectively decided to drown our sorrows for theremainder of the festival. Funnily enough this was the most fun time I've ever had with Dust! ReGnYuM was at it for another year with an addition of Zatara Rought. Memory is hazy but superb partying with those two animals.
CCP: I guess I can now safely say that I was in fact working for CCP (2013 - 2014). Not on Dust though, but Customer Support for EVE. To begin with I was very enthusiastic engaging with the CPM and giving the Shanghai team my feedback. But it mostly fell on deaf ears, the CPM was great though and I can vouch that they really did fight for the players, but their hands are very tied. For example CPM member Laurent Cazaderon was very vocal and against CCP's approach to Legion, so much in fact they kicked him out (or he left) and silently removed him from the Dust keynote slides. In my mind, he was the best CPM member there ever was (also the best looking).
After a while my boss approached me and frankly asked me to stop. It was very demoralizing. Up until that point I had been giving the scoop to the dev team very early on how to reproduce certain glitches, the melee stamina glitch for example. After being asked to stop I mostly clued my GM coworkers in on a need to know basis when they had to clean up some sh*t, like buggy district locking.
Concluding Remarks: When looking back I originally got into the game to jump on the train early, to have some fun. As everybody knows Dust 514 is a special kind of infestation of bugs and bad gameplay but that doesn't matter to me. The by far most entertaining part was the social aspect, voice comms, meeting and partying with the players.
It was fun repping and smothering you with a MD, bye bye!

Well, this made my heart sink. Started playing sometime around 1.3 or 1.4 as Raolus Solaire, decided I did things wrong with that character sometime within a week or two and made my new main Mina Longstrike.
Was a happy player of caldari FW and an aspirant vehicle user (until I came to a realization that vehicles were largely broken throughout all of dusts lifespan). I had a ton of fun in 2shitz 1giggle, until PC aspirations and internal strife with some toxic players caused me to leave the corp, but not before taking the 300m in the corp wallet. There were a lot of awesome people in this corp who ended up leaving for various reasons - most in reaction to the fanfest announcement of legion known as the 'red wedding' of dust. This character was pure caldari (aside from vehicles, because of a need to remain 'competitive' and the fact that vehicle skills unlocked the other race as well) and ended up contibuting heavily during the caldari FW push around 7-8 months ago, where it got to a point that we were fighting and winning for ~12 hours a day (though, mostly due to how broken the faction warfare system was and how easy it was to exploit).
I made a new character on a second account named Malleus Malificorum who was part of 2shitz 1giggle for a while, but ended up joining Praetoria Classiarii Templares (the dust branch of PIE) before my issues with 2shitz began. This character was probably one of my favorites, being a pure amarr and a member of a pure amarr corp, I got to have a great time playing with Templar Twelve (an eve/dust player who mostly ran the corp), Aero Yassavi and True Adamance. At one point in time I was one of maybe around ten people who had amarr commando skilled to level 5 (and it sucked hard back then, but it's pretty glorious now), and I made a serious bid at getting the officer laser (I think I came in around third place with ~3000 kills over the two day period, and got a tiny bit of forum recognition from other laser users as one of maybe the 10-20 'deadliest' laser users).
My third character was Pulvis Et Umbra-Sumus, made around the same time as Malleus, and was a pure minmatar character. I ****ing loved the mass driver on the commando, and min-logi was pretty great. I remember taking part in the shinobi event and racking up 400 some kills back when scouting and knives were both hard. Overall this character has some fond memories but didn't get near as much playtime as malleus or mina.
My last character was created not 'too' terribly long ago, and was Sei Ortek, a gallente alt that I started just to try and determine how accurate the complaints about gal assault & assault rifles were (and in my determination, they mostly weren't accurate, the gal assault had an insanely good bonus). Not much to say about this one, as she didn't get nearly the amount of playtime as the others, but did get to have some fun with roleplay stuff.
I've met an awesome bunch of people in my time with dust, and it's somewhat helped to alleviate some of my IRL issues with depression. I've never spent much money on this game because I 'made my mistake' and got burned with League of Legends and a few other online games.
I sincerely hope my characters, their skillpoints and items (like skins and the 'loyalty store' stuff) translate over to whatever new project CCP is working on to 'replace' dust. I have an incredible attachment to these characters and my personal achievements with them.
I love the dust community, but at the same time, you guys are all assholes. To those I've played with if you're reading now: All of you should know who you are, I am a bitter prickly person but I still think you guys are awesome.

Let me just say this in a calm and dignified manner; I will miss this game, but mistakes have been made by CCP.
CCP's first and arguably greatest mistake with Dust 514 was making it a game that could be sustained for decades on a device with a limited lifespan. CCP learned that the hard way, as many of us did.
Their second mistake was not listening and responding to the good-mannered players more, but they know that one too.
The big question that they ask themselves and each other is this: will they actual repeat the second mistake again, or will they avoid doing so for a change?
I, for one, will be watching with great interest, as always.

Too bad everyone scattered to the winds. Never saw such a lopsided distribution of talent in a game ever before and it was awesome while the game had a future. Alas CCP killed it with god awful PC mechanics and the rest is minor details.
Personally still hanging out with Cubs, Telc, and some others from the gang, really wish a strong effort could be made before these forums disappear to have a reunion of some kind (probably not inside dust though lol).

Chuckles Brown wrote:Darth-Carbonite GIO wrote:Well, I can't really say for sure, because I don't really know for sure! It is unfortunate that we came in during the transition period, but we have also gotten to impact the development of this new project on the ground floor, and that's pretty cool. Going forward, I think CCP understands the importance of community interaction, and I can only hope that means the survival of the CPM as an institution, one way or the other. If Legion was just around the corner, then perhaps the lolCPM would still have meaning. CPM has less meaning than ever, the game has less meaning, the community has less meaning... When will you people realize that CCP has only 1 title to their credit... because they don't know how to build games. They know how to sell; mostly the sale of bullsh!tting people into thinking they care. CPM was invented to curb community out-cry from massive in-game EvE protesting. It's yet another cost-less front CCP uses to make it look like they care when all they want is to suck revenue out of players without providing a decent service in return. CPM is useless and has never been needed, especially in a community this small. The fact that they decided to shut off the servers in just 12 weeks of notice tells that this decision was made much longer ago. All the 'feedback' you can CCP means nothing, as they make all the final decisions. Legion(or whatever project they are working on) is years away from being released, by that time us Dust Bunnies will not care anymore, and CCP can add another failed title to their resume. Just imagine how many projects they started that never even left the drawing board that failed. If CCP had been in the domain of any other country besides Iceland, they'd been out of business and bankrupt by now. So, with CCP not having credibility. CPM certainly has 0. Get over yourselves. As ALL CPMs just wanted the title for selfish gain anyway. At least you could have told us 3 weeks ago when you found out that 3 years of playing, and spending money was for nothing...
Who squeezed a lemon up your starfish hole? Even if I cared to agree with you to take your ranting seriously, you're beating the dry earth, six feet above the rotting corpse of... a horse, of course. Unfortunately, I'm not feeling nearly as diplomatic as the other guy replying to you. kudos to him for having more tolerance than I.
How is it CPM's responsibility to curb your whining? Did CCP bullsh!t you into caring for something you do not care about? If you are aware of this deceit, why are you still caring ...here? Do you not have free will or take responsibility for your life choices? I'm curious where that line is, or are you as tethered to other corporations for every pill you blindly swallow? You type like a college freshman still in the false reality that you are the center of this universe. If it is true that CCP's intent is to just suck the revenue from the oh-so-innocent (and rather ignorant, if I go by your description) player base without providing a decent service, then why are players still playing?
Regarding your timeline deduction, being AWARE of a possibility, ever how likely that possibility may be, does not mean CPM 1) knew what the final decision would be, or 2) that they could act on it by way of informing the community due to NDA. That communication could not come until after it was finalized, and even then, only after CPM was given a green light to open communication.
Even still, because YOU don't see it, does not mean CPM is useless. WTF kind of logic is that? By the very definition of a NDA, what they DO do simply is not your line of site (I typed do-do. ha!). Slightly off topic: toddlers will soon realize covering their eyes does not actually make them invisible. They eventually become self-aware and cognitive of the reality around them. But first their brain must develop to a point to reach this awareness. So what happened to you?
For those dustbunnies of us that do find our way to the next iteration, I salute you. For the rest that can't swing the migration, you honestly have my sympathy and I feel the frustration---for those of you that do care for what the spirit of DUST514 was meant to be. Though, to this singular starfish, I say good riddance.
How many projects indeed! Do you honestly think success comes from placing all your eggs into one basket? Pass or fail? How many versions must be tested before even considering going public? How many sketches were burned to get to that idea? How many thumbnails were scribbled and tossed to get to a decent sketch?! That's just how it is, man?! We (I type we with the assumption that humanity in general hopes to evolve to be better tomorrow in whatever things we do today) learn from failure (generally speaking) and ideally, work to improve upon mistakes so that the next go-round is better. I can't tell you how many times I went through Contra just to learn the level patterns. The 99 lives sequence helped too, but my point still stands. They'd be out of business because global markets are so different? Just stop already. CCP is already in the global arena.
And finally: if 3 years of playing meant nothing, then wtf did you play for 3 fuggin years?!? Seems to me, you got some level of entertainment over that 3-year period, else you wouldn't still be here clinching your brown. CPM did what they could I'm sure. And if not? You would never know it anyway, so GTFO and HTFU.

I figure given how long they stringed us along we have more than a right to be salty about it. Even if people within CCP aren't happy about it either, the blame for it ultimately still falls on their department for being so incompetent.

Pray that through your harsh words, you never have to experience it yourself.
Surely, if it were beyond their control, letting us know the reason(s) why 1.3 couldn't happen would go a long way towards not being so unhappy.
Enough of us are sufficiently intelligent and reasonable that we would understand if it were something on Sony's end, or otherwise.
I know they probably won't tell us, regardless if their reason is good or not, but it would be nice to know.

So, how many decades until this "new" Dust comes out? Just wondering if I'll be retired by then.

CCP Frame wrote:Dear DUST 514 Community,
CCPGÇÖs development team in Shanghai has been working on a prototype for a first-person shooter for PC with the goal of building a great FPS set in our sci-fi universe of New Eden (the universe in which EVE Online, DUST 514, EVE: Valkyrie, and Gunjack are set). Their experience is being utilized to build a new game from scratch using Unreal Engine 4 while harnessing all our learnings from DUST 514. This is in many ways an evolution of Project Legion, the concept we announced at EVE Fanfest 2014, but without the limitations of technical debt and development paths we quickly discovered in that effort that could never serve as a future-proof technology base for a full production game. This new project is still in an early phase of production, and we feel like weGÇÖre on the right track and plan to give an update at EVE Fanfest on April 21st as a part of the free livestream of the event. Since this new game will be different from DUST 514 (although keeping many of its great parts), we will provide tiered recognition rewards to our loyal DUST customers, details to be announced.
We are very proud of what weGÇÖve learned and accomplished with DUST 514 on PlayStation 3 over the past three years and it is an honor to be a part of such a dedicated community. We consider DUST 514 one of the best free-to-play offerings on the platform, but the years have caught up with us. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that DUST 514 will be shutting down on May 30th, 2016. We therefore will not be releasing the 1.3 update as we had planned. Players will continue to be able to play for free on our servers until then, but all further PSN packs and purchases have been removed and disabled from the in-game marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Players with existing Aurum will be able to continue to purchase items from the in-game marketplace.
Thank you for being a part of DUST 514 on the PlayStation 3. We look forward to the next chapter, and hope youGÇÖll be a part of it and continue the journey with us. Your a *****

Well, what a long strange trip its been, right folks?
There has never been a game I didn't play that I've spent so much time reading, thinking and wishing I could play more than DUST.
And the news isn't a surprise.... just one of those things we have all waited entirely too long to hear.
Thank you Hilmar for not waiting until FanFest to tell us. Thank you Rattati for keeping this dream alive and well after the last time.
But more than anything else: Thank you to the players of DUST. I love seeing your names on these forums...each of them evoke so many memories (good, bad and ugly).
I really do hope we meet each other across the battlefields of the future.

Some of the details will take time simply because there are mechanical aspects that have to be addressed beforehand but everyone who's followed my time on the forums knows I'm an advocate for communication and this is certainly no exception.
I've given the message, now like everyone I'm just waiting to see what will ultimately be done.
I understand, and please know I'm not trying to speak ill of you or any of the current CPM. First off, you have been much more active than the CPM of may playing days. Second, being as how I don't play anymore there is only so much I can say that holds any clout.
But while the verbal sparring here on the forums is extremely entertaining (I haven't played Dust since May 2014), I think the community needs to be told in a very frank and upfront manner "do not expect anything more than a skin", and preferably by a CCP tag. Absolutely no beating around the bush, no we will see, none of that. I would feel confident betting money that CCP has already decided what people will get, and that's fine. This game needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, and nothing can interfere with that.
But to rebuild the trust (if CCP cares to hold on to any of the PS3 playerbase, I don't know that they do or don't) believable things must be said. If it was my call-

Hello Dust playerbase,
As you know, we are moving on to a new game, on a new system. Due to massive changes to both engine and mechanics, and the requirement of balance from day one, no assets or progression will transfer. We have an exclusive skin for you, and you will have first shot at alpha. That's it.
End transmission
Then, down the road, other stuff that could be transferred could be viewed as a bonus, and good for morale.
I know I may be over thinking this, and I'm not trying to be an @ss, but if you are gonna close a window to keep out the breeze, you close it all the way. And by you I mean CCP, not you specifically Cross. I genuinely appreciate your responses, thank you. |
