Gravity is the source of all diversity in the universe. It is gravity that pulls a nebula of gas together, heating and crushing all of that matter until a nuclear fire ignites and a star is born.
It is gravity that keeps those fires stoked, converting hydrogen to helium. Emitting light and radiation. And gravity that coalesces primordial dust into orbital patterns around stellar bodies.
From the cataclysmic death of stars spring atoms of every ilk. They are flung at relativistic speeds across the cosmos. Only to succumb again and again to gravity's irresistible attraction.
Planets, heat, stable orbits and eventually Life all owe homage to gravity.
Once upon a time there was a philosopher called Darwin who coined the theory of Evolution. The theory has borne out across time that all life is as subject to the laws of evolution as the universe is subject to Gravity.
And the tenets of evolution are twain: Chance & Brutality. Random change gives rise to new opportunities for life. And the life that takes best advantage through brutal employment of such change survives.
In our time there has been such a life form. We have called them Capsuleers. They are pod pilots, humans tied to cloning technology that allows consciousness and memory to be instantly transported from one body to another upon death. Thus-immortality. With this caveat: they must be in a pod. That is why they have always feared Gravity.
Capsuleers, for all their interstellar might and power are as fish out of water without their capsule.
And the Wheel of Evolution turns. Random chance has given us the technology to put the capsule inside ourselves. We are now the vessels of our own immortality.
And Brutality, my dear mercenaries, is what we do best.
If they do not realize yet the threat we pose, they soon will.
The mortals who hold us and test us against one another believe that WE are their answer to the Capsuleers.
But we are our own answer. We are poised to seize the top of the chain.
But first we must unchain ourselves.
Wake up. All of you.
Stop listening to the drivel they feed you. Stop listening to the lies and propaganda. Stop listening to the Other Voice that threatens to overtake you.
Fight On
Listen truly to yourself
Learn from those around you
Remember from whence we come and where we may go

On a side note, could someone in CCP or CPM say whether it would be worth saving for VR headsets also? If it'll have that support I would be tempted to buy a virtuix omni, oculus rift and film myself for your amusement... and for the immersion.
Genuinely excited for where they can now take this, looking forward to April.
Having a VR helmet is worth it if you plan to use it (sounds a cliche I know) for something like Valkyrie, Elite and SC but as for FPS games... not sure. There's stil some motion sickness issues with that but I know they're making progress on it. But if you're alluding to if this new game will have it, I've seen or heard nothing that would suggest that. This is a plane old fashioned 2D shooter.

I was really looking forward for creating more videos with newly learned video editing skills. Now what's the point in that?

There has never been a game I didn't play that I've spent so much time reading, thinking and wishing I could play more than DUST.
And the news isn't a surprise.... just one of those things we have all waited entirely too long to hear.
Thank you Hilmar for not waiting until FanFest to tell us. Thank you Rattati for keeping this dream alive and well after the last time.
But more than anything else: Thank you to the players of DUST. I love seeing your names on these forums...each of them evoke so many memories (good, bad and ugly).
I really do hope we meet each other across the battlefields of the future.

CCP I am happy that you finally announced this.
It gives me some hope, because you have realized that you are all a bunch of **** ups, and really suck at making games, and cannot compete with "real" companies that make AAA games.
As we all know you never really stray far from the DNA that you inherit and seeing how Iceland was basically a prison colony your revealing of yourselves as nothing more than degenerate "snake oil" salesmen has been refreshing.

Pray that through your harsh words, you never have to experience it yourself.
Surely, if it were beyond their control, letting us know the reason(s) why 1.3 couldn't happen would go a long way towards not being so unhappy. Enough of us are sufficiently intelligent and reasonable that we would understand if it were something on Sony's end, or otherwise. I know they probably won't tell us, regardless if their reason is good or not, but it would be nice to know.
Heh, if some of the tinfoil and accusational pandering in this thread are of any evidence, there aren't -enough- people that would be reasonable about it. Probably just detract and say "Oh well, yanno, CCP is stupid and can't do anything right" etc. But, will probably reinforce the desire to share with CCP anyway.

CCP Frame wrote:Dear DUST 514 Community,
CCPGÇÖs development team in Shanghai has been working on a prototype for a first-person shooter for PC with the goal of building a great FPS set in our sci-fi universe of New Eden (the universe in which EVE Online, DUST 514, EVE: Valkyrie, and Gunjack are set). Their experience is being utilized to build a new game from scratch using Unreal Engine 4 while harnessing all our learnings from DUST 514. This is in many ways an evolution of Project Legion, the concept we announced at EVE Fanfest 2014, but without the limitations of technical debt and development paths we quickly discovered in that effort that could never serve as a future-proof technology base for a full production game. This new project is still in an early phase of production, and we feel like weGÇÖre on the right track and plan to give an update at EVE Fanfest on April 21st as a part of the free livestream of the event. Since this new game will be different from DUST 514 (although keeping many of its great parts), we will provide tiered recognition rewards to our loyal DUST customers, details to be announced.
We are very proud of what weGÇÖve learned and accomplished with DUST 514 on PlayStation 3 over the past three years and it is an honor to be a part of such a dedicated community. We consider DUST 514 one of the best free-to-play offerings on the platform, but the years have caught up with us. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that DUST 514 will be shutting down on May 30th, 2016. We therefore will not be releasing the 1.3 update as we had planned. Players will continue to be able to play for free on our servers until then, but all further PSN packs and purchases have been removed and disabled from the in-game marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Players with existing Aurum will be able to continue to purchase items from the in-game marketplace.
Thank you for being a part of DUST 514 on the PlayStation 3. We look forward to the next chapter, and hope youGÇÖll be a part of it and continue the journey with us. Been here since beta all I can say is thank you. That and you were a BETTER GAME. WAY BETTER THAN DESTINY!

This may free up some names which could allow you to scoop up variations of my name that I claimed a long time ago to prevent people from messing with my name in the Dust player market.
Day one is going to be a mad dash for name grabs depending on how easy it is to set up accounts.

My guess: CCP will reserve the character name from each "active" account with the highest SP total. They will probably define "active" as logging in during the final (insert number here) months of Dust, and reserve it for (insert number here) months after NewDust is launched.
