I feel betrayed that they are abandoning the game and players that made all this possible. If they said it was transfering to ps4 it would make this a lot eaisier. As for everyone still playing lets have a massive pc war. |

I would think it would be appropriate for the Dev team to set up a sort of play date with all of us.
I know they will be busy but I think that it would be a nice send off.

"To be destroyed upon reading; Mercenary, you have been selected for Project Legion. There is a new generation of combat clones being developed that will improve on the metrics set by the Dust project. I had hoped to be awake for the announcement to drop, but fate was not so welcoming.. As a disclaimer, I have a grade two concussion right now (lost a fight with a utility truck) and my head is spinning, but I will do my absolute best to try and be here to talk. That is something the CPM has made abundantly clear.

I mean, I understand if you guys are going to keep the details under-wraps for marketing reasons, but I'm just curious.
There's always going to be a fight of philosophy between early awareness and the big reveal mentality. However, the old style of "let's show everything at Fanfest" died off a long time ago, if this announcement is any indicator.

I stopped playing this game after about the third patch in the original beta....it did not feed my MAG needs and I eventually went to Planetside 2 on PC...which coincidentally has been a massive failure on PS4 (player counts so low they merged to two servers within 6 months of launch)...
So the lessons are clear...games of scale and depth, where development lifecycles extend over years are just not meant for consoles...consoles are hardwrae limited...therefore the development and longevity of such deep games is also limited on consoles...especially shooters which are very resource intensive..
CCP has done something smart finally by recognizing that what they are trying to accomplish in terms of scale and depth and the ability to actually ceate it, is only possible on PC....
This new game when launched, will be a welcome FPS addition on PC...
I hope they have large player caps and timed rounds, so we get scale but without the neverending unimaginative meta of Planetside 2....
They should also provide a mechanism to take any aurum balances that players have left when Dust closes, to the new game when launched....that's the rignt thing to do...
Good luck all and happy gaming.

Kevall Longstride wrote:I just wanted to highlight something from the OP.
This is a new game, built from stratch. As a result no one here should make assumptions about anything or everything making the transition from PS3 Dust to PC Dust. You'll be just setting yourselves up for disappointment or false expectations, something which this new game, I think we can all agree, doesn't need round it's neck on day one.
Zaria Min Deir wrote:I can personally empathise with how many of the community will feel about this announcement, specifically the console only players. This evolution of the New Eden FPS will leave many of the loyal playerbase behind, and a lot of disappointment and even anger is justified in reaction to how all of this is and has been handled.
No matter how justified, taking that anger out with irrational behaviour on the forums or in game will not help anyone.
I hope the community can come together in a mature manner to discuss the issues and concerns that this announcement has raised, and that those of the community that are disappointed don't resent others celebrating the path CCP has chosen.
I think that we were already set up for disappointment by even thinking that 1.3 may be the last update.
I realize that you, as CPM, were probably under the belief it would be released.
We were told that Rattati was not speaking with us, because he was in holed up working on 1.3.
We were told that CCP already knew what was in 1.3, and when it would be released, implying that 1.3 was indeed coming.
I am less concerned about the port being PC only, as we knew that was a possibility, or at least would start out that way, but why bother even allowing you to mention them working on 1.3 if they weren't absolutely certain they would release it? What better way to have salved the announcement than giving us one last update as a thanks for putting up with their sh*t.
And lastly, I am curious as to what would constitute irrational behavior? As a community, we have largely been yanked around, rang out like a rag for money, and misled. That behavior, on the part of CCP, whether intentional or not, suggests a fundamental lack of respect for the player base. Why should anyone bother showing them the respect they have not shown us?

Thank you CCP for finally giving us some information, even if it is not the news all of us were hoping for.
I came from this game from my love of EVE online, and bought a PS3 just for this game. I'm deeply saddened (and a bit mad) that the game will be ending it's lifespan soon, but at the same time I am looking forward to what new developments will have in store for the next game.
My main hope is that you keep the DUST forums live, and use them as a sounding board for the next iteration. Several good ideas (Such as Aero's and my idea of Powercores) have come from this forum, and I feel CCP would do well to have a few hundred people extra to talk through ideas, ask for feedback, and discuss matters with us openly.
I am not sure how much you will be able to share of game development behind the scenes, but I hope you will continue to use CPM, and the DUST playerbase as valuable sources of feedback and discussion, even long after the May 30th shutdown date.
Do not forget the community you have built up here, and know that some of us are stupid / insane / determined enough to stick around even after you turned off the lights. Some of us brought flashlights.

That's ultimately the biggest problem with consoles as a whole. PC allows for rapid iterations; developers can find and fix mistakes without having to go through the console's manufacturer (and thereby their publisher). Not being restricted to client vs server side fixes is a must if the past two years have been any indication. I mean, ****, eye-ball Warlords 1.3 and you can gather that most of that had to have been client-side changes.
The beauty and weakness of consoles are that they make for a more pure, standardized format of gaming, but that format is designed for one-off full-fledged releases (hence why Battlefield, Killzone, Call of Duty, etc are franchises). Even if you did have the unicorn game that featured a progressive release scheme where new content was added in afterward you'd still have to manage around the specs of the system as it was first released. The only thing that will change that is if Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo come out with a modular platform designed to be upgraded as the years went by - which, funny thing, Nintendo did years ago.
Thing is, it doesn't sell very well, because the same mentality that makes people hesitant to go PC applies there as well: People don't want to spend money to upgrade later on.
This isn't a justification or excuse for this new game to not be on consoles - not at all - but even in perfect scenarios it will be difficult to both manage and maintain. Some features for PC would be difficult to transition over to consoles, and bugs would take longer to fix. It's just not something I'd imagine anyone is willing to handle up on -RIGHT NOW-, yanno?

Who is to say that legion or w/e will be any different than how DUST was managed?
CCP was dumb enough to use multiple outdated engines and an outdated console as they remade the game multiple times over it's history. (3 or 4 times)
From a business standpoint it's acting on a whim without actually thinking about what's down the road.
Now all that capital and resources tied into this menagerie of a FPS, that was based on one of the best MMO's ever , have been wasted.
If only you could have maybe thought for a split second about the future you could easily have a very successful installment, whether it be on the PS4 or the PC.
Either way it would be more profitable and last longer than what was Dust 514 on PS3.
Perhaps with the new project the integration will finally be there, but to be honest (as someone who has been playing eve for over a year and a half now) EVE players don't care about the DUST integration and if it's forced on them only see it as aggravation.
