Why do they keep restarting. And why the can on 1.3?

As I read all the many threads about the farce of a Dust keynote(ed: 2014), I am detecting a common theme. Many of you seem to be feeling like "CCP, this was a horrible way to communicate this. All you needed to do was X. Please don't F_ up like that again!" I can only surmise that you have entered the New Eden universe via DUST514 and haven't really kept track of CCP in its past decade. (Why would you.)

Others have said this in their own replies to the various threads, but I haven't detected any change in the common understanding, so I thought I'd make a thread just to point it out specifically. This is the way CCP does things. Ridiculously. Stupidly. Handling PR like they're in a competition to see how many customers they can p__s off. If you didn't come from Eve:Online you might not realize this, but CCP has been as intuitive as a turtle for over a decade now.

Have you read anyone's comment who used stereotypical quotes of an abused spouse or such things? That's what this is like, but it isn't just from the past 2-3 years of Dust development. CCP has been like this for a decade. CCP is not a young company still trying to figure out how to read and communicate with their customer base. If experience is the ultimate teacher, they've spent more hours in class than virtually any other company thrice their age. The only answer is either the whole staff, past and present, are on the asperger scale somewhere or they simply don't care to try to get better. The odds of it being the former is pretty freaking slim.

I welcome feedback, questions, etc, and for other Eve:Online vets to either support or challenge my post.

My main hope in posting this is that for those of you who are new customers of CCP will not build future expectations expecting a normal company's reaction and development, only to be let down a number of times in the coming 2-5 years. I'm hoping to help spare you from that wasted investment, involvement, and dedication. Go forward if you like, I'm not saying not to, just know what you can realistically expect from CCP. Do the research.

The figure hits the wall with a loud "thud",blood gushing from the impact...and yet receives no sympathy.
CCP slams the basement door and locks it.

Person is confused.
CCP responds:Oh that was just my middle child (Dust),worthless wretch that it is.
CCP quickly shifts focus to it's new babies,ignoring the middle childs cries for even the most modest of attention.
And thus Dust dies,a magnificent potential squandered by those without the vision to utilize it properly.

My concern. Will this new game be a Dust we recognise ?

Their experience is being utilized to build a new game from scratch using Unreal Engine 4 while harnessing all our learnings from DUST 514.

No point on pouring hours into 1.3 when the server goes offline in a little over 3months.

Better player generated/run tournaments and matches were some of the things we asked for immediately.

Who knows if it'll happen, but there seemed to be a great deal of enthusiasm.

Well damn, i still regret they day i quit Dust 514 because they anounced Legion, i hope this time around we do get a decent PC port or PS4, if not for the the Legion anouncement (and subsequent they saying no nope, no legion) i never really found my way back here, except for a few skirmishes.

I really liked Dust 514, its sad they made it for a dying console... but they shot themselves in their own foot with the whole legion ordeal...

I think that's a question best left for CCP to answer, but it's safe to assume that if they scrapped an old project to work on this one, that they had a very good reason.

At least the server hamsters can finally rest. Poor little guys worked so hard.

Better to start over with a stable foundation than try and build ontop on something existing.

the server aint going down as thats the EVE server, just dust is getting disabled from the server

I know that there will be a very long period between DUST being shut down and this new game being playable, and by then, nobody will give a damn.

If DUST gets shut down on 30th May, is the new game going to be playable by then?

No, we're going to have a year of nothing and when the new(new) game comes out from when you started again(again), nobody will care.

I'm glad we can see DUST come to life on PC, please add controller support though I suck at keyboard and mouse, I have never regularly played a PC game let alone online, let alone competitive first person shooter!

So please think about the people who are console players, who won't be able to adapt to PC and probably don't want to use mouse and keyboard.
