Yeah, I got an upcoming Lit Assignment, so I'll be cranking out a short story real soon. It'll be quite interesting and will involve the origins of the Sandmen. |

Fate sat once more in her celestial palace, writhing with pleasure. She was winning. She got the dwarf. He had the book. It was of no use to her, but to him it was everything. The whereabouts of the true AN no longer mattered. But then she felt a presence. One from deep within the heart of the Spire. HE was coming. In his armor of gold, his eyes without pupils nor irises, a deep white. His voice so deep and powerful even a dragon would cower under his authority. She filled with fear.
"Justice? What brings you to this wonderful palace." His stare was cold. "Checking your progress. Don't act like WE haven't been watching. I have questions you see? The first being... HOW AND WHY IS FREEDOM STILL A THREAT!?" She meekly responds to his question. "He is not a problem, whatever could you mean? He was banished from the Spire millennia ago. He's an Elder God no longer. His power is nothing compared to what it once was." His response was one of intense rage. "DON'T PLAY ME FOR A FOOL, GIRL! I KNOW THAT AS WELL AS YOU! YET SOMEHOW HE MANAGED TO REAPPEAR AND NOW WHISPERS IN THE EARS OF OUR ENEMIES!.... He leaves us no choice. We must cast him into the Oblivion. We WILL be the final and only generation of gods now and forever..." |

Also, please note that the First are all tainted once defeated and reversed by Fate. However, One and Form cannot be tainted. So do not bring them into this, because that's basically pressing the WE LOSE button. |

Furthermore, I'd like to state I will soon be creating a series of lore pieces known as the Dustia Chronicles (or something like that). I'll have several interesting pieces of lore within the short stories. Also note I am continuing to bring this story into book form... takes forever at the rate we post. |

"Well." Conyr spoke up. All eyes turned to him.
"I thank you, um... er-"
"Hakyi."
"Right. Hakyi. Thank you for bringing me here. I probably wouldn't be alive if you had not found me."
Conyr turned back to Jern and Alihes.
"I think, for now, I will trust you, whatever you are."
Jern looked affronted. "Just the embodiment of all logipriests, is all."
"Yes, but how do I know?" Conyr snapped impatiently.
"Listen, I am as lost as you, Conyr." Alihes intervened. "In fact, I don't know why I should trust this spirit coin either. It simply guided me here. So the choice is yours. Come with us, or go your own way."
Conyr was silent for a moment. He looked at Hakyi, and noticed the man's pupils were elongated like a cat's, and tinged yellow like a hawk's. For some reason, it reminded him of the jungle pigs in his jungle home.
"Alright." Conyr pronounced each word slowly, carefully. "I will go with you, and embark on this voyage. However, I'd like to make a request. If it is fine with Hakyi, I would like him to come with us."
Hakyi's magnificent eyes glazed over; his face became unreadable. Conyr thought he saw anger and guilt intermingled in them. A strange combination. Then, Hakyi nodded. Conyr smiled, pleased.
"Well, that settles it." He turned to the spirit and Alihes. "What's the plan?"
Neither Alihes or Jern replied.
"Uh, hello?"
Still nothing.
"What? So suddenly this great voyage isn't meant to happen?"
Hakyi looked on, amused. Conyr groaned.
"Seriously, why're you guys just looking at me like that?"
Hakyi walked over to the door. "Conyr. I will go prepare my kalteraft."
"Kalteraft? What in the world is that?"
Hakyi stared at Conyr for a moment, contemplating. Then he said "Come. I'll show you."
Conyr turned to Alihes and Jern. They stood, as if conversing to each other, but without opening their mouths.
"Well, if you guys can here me, I'll be outside once you snap out of your reverie or whatever."
The desert sun beat down upon Conyr's head like a hammer, making his vision go blurry. He lost his balance for a moment, and stood still, eyes closed, until the world stopped spinning. Opening them, he saw his green feet contrasted against the sandy path, and looking up he saw Hakyi strolling along, due north. Conyr could barely keep his eyes open; the light was blindingly bright, and the pale material used to construct the city's buildings seemed to intensify it.
I enter the great city of the sandmen, Conyr thought. And I can't even see a thing. He could barely track Hakyi as he walked briskly, trying to hide his face. Not hard, considering he was swathed in light cloths to protect himself from sand and sun. Conyr, however, was feeling decidedly uncomfortable in a loincloth.
After several long minutes of stumbling and some strange looks, the pair reached the city edge. Beyond, there was only desert as far as Conyr could discern, although that wasn't much. He found Hakyi standing in a stable-like building, except when Conyr entered, blessing the shade, he did not see anything like horses. What he did see were small boat-like craft, made of wood, with a huge cloth sail which seem to be made of the same material Hakyi's clothes were made of.
The one Hakyi was approaching was designed with elegant lines, and the mast was thin and streamlined. There were ropes attached to many different parts of the ship, the kalteraft, as Conyr realised, and each rope eventually found its way back to the stern of the raft, knotted and tied to form a sort of steering mechanism. Compared to the other craft inside, Hakyi's kalteraft was majestic and seemed much better maintained. It was a king amongst peasants.
Hakyi broke the silence. "This is my kalteraft."
"What's her name?"
Hakyi hesitated. "Wyngad."
And then Conyr saw small, smooth protrusions in the hull, so well integrated he had missed them before. Wyngad; the protrusions formed the name, Wyngad.
"She's beautiful."
"She's all I have."
Conyr looked again at the sandman, at his eyes, and he could tell this man spoke the truth. His kalteraft was all he had.

//OOC: Wow, Sandromin, how did you have patience to write all that? Just kidding, but it's very good stuff. But now, I guess, we should find certain points where my and Sandromin's story intersect...
How about this: Archnectomancer was not created entirely by Fate; instead, he was one of the Life Wardens that Fate took to corrupt and taint for her own purposes. Firstly he worked with his nation, but under the combined strength of the other four they had to flee Praecantaria. I can't think of anything else right now, though.
@Thanatos: Well, the Dark Arcanum is filled with spells, as Xavier wrote once. Archnecromancer, I think, would not really need them, for he knew them already, didn't he? And, actually, here is what we could potentially do: The book was written by Fate, and then it was guarded by the Five. Then Fate created Archnecromancer (Praecantarians would call him and his followed Deathlords), and she ordered him to steal the book, which, upon Fate's corruption, became what it is now - the Dark Arcanum. I don't know about you, but it actually makes sense to me...
Also, how are you going to act now that Ignatus accepted Thanatos' proposal? //End of OOC\\ |

The Second, or what you call Life Wardens, are numbered many. There is one for each aspect we see. And technically, all the Second were made by the combined efforts of the First. However, Fate was tainted, and she tainted the Second who led the lands in wickedness. This Second was known to us as... Void. All the other Seconds remain hidden, helping Freedom in his objective.
The Five are the ones that affected your land the most, but by no means is there only five; they actually number in the dozens. Read the second lore bomb for more information on Sandmen's records on the Archnecromancer. |

You also mention that Fate gave the Dark Arcanum to AN after his transformation. The One created all, the all created the First, the First created the Second, and the Second created Men and Mir.

Mainly I feel it's your emphasis on the centrality of Praecentaria involving the book and its origins. For example, if Praecentaria was the origin place of magic, then how would you explain nations on the other side of the world with magic? I'm keeping this noob neutral, so this thread can thrive. Furthermore, conceptually, if the book were made by Fate and given to a Second, it would allow for having the book influence much more of the world, thereby allowing others to have a back story involving it if they wanted. |

Anyways, I'm entirely open for the book to influence many nations on Dustia. The only thing I'm asking for in order to lay proper foundations for my history is that prior to the event where the book falls into AN's hands and sets all other events in motion, the Arcanum resided on Praecantaria and reflected Fate's corruption. Afterwards, when the book is stolen from the continent, I wash my hands, and everyone is free to involve the book as they wish.
The events regarding the book prior to AN's possession of it, as I see it, don't matter much to the overall history, but, frankly, they would mean much to the history of Praecantaria in my vision. (Ooc) why weren't giants mentioned? Does no one remember the giants? (Ooc) Brutus wasn't sure what to do now. He had jumped onto a flying boat. Now what. Brutus was bored again. He looked over the rails to see most of the ocean still inform of them. The open view made his mind wander. Old stories of his past, foretelling s of future heros. The world break stood up in his mind the most.
Whence the anger consumes him, his strength will bring nations to their knees. His power will be legendary. He will be the world breaker. It was an old story. Longer, but Brutus couldn't remember it. The final lines stuck out the most. Another story floated in his mind. The Faraliun. An ancient word that no one really knew. But he knew the story.
And when the world breaker descends, with his mantle of death the Faraliun will save us. His life will be split unto us. His sacrifice will not be forgotten. And he will bring the world breaker down to his death. And their struggle will be know.
Another old story, one that has been hard to determine. Many believed it was to foretell the end of the world. Brutus thought both stories just that, stories. They had nothing to do with his people's history. Many stories didn't. There were obviously hero's that were truly in his past, but they all seemed the same. As much as Brutus wanted to remember them he couldn't. So instead he just looked at the ocean. Then an idea struck him. "Pick Brutus up on land. I'll be back." The giant stood up and jumped off of the Embershard. Unfortunately, he miss judged how far out they were and landed in a rather deep stretch of water. He sunk to the bottom, the force of the water was surprising to Brutus. Surprising as in he didn't feel most of it. He felt it but not all of it. His armor was still up to snuff. Brutus stood, literally for about three seconds, then galloped, because running was impossible underwater. He wasn't sure how far he was but this was certainly a different experience. Fish flitted in and out of his view. And even after a minute he was still fine without breathing. He could probably go for about thirty minutes. The underwater adventure of the land giant was uneventful for the first three minutes. Until a force knocked him over. Brutus looked up to see a large tail disappear. Brutus stood and readied himself. A beast of epic proportions slammed into him. It was a serpent, a sea beast. The head was scaled and looked like a crocodile mixed with a snake. It's body was longer than Brutus was tall. He wrapped his arms around the tree trunk neck of the beast. The monster thrashed with Brutus hanging onto it. Brutus was launched into the air with amazing force. On a side note he noticed how close he was to shore and how nice the sky looked with two great shapes floating above. Him. He took a deep breath before splash down. Brutus landed and tumbled through the water, the beast close by, Brutus swung his large fist through the water slamming it into the monster, which spun off course. Brutus was struggling to move in the water, let alone fight a monster. The beast recovered quickly and sped toward the giant. He tried to kick but missed and was grabbed in the serpents mouth. Brutus was dragged on the ocean floor with sand going I between his armor. Brutus' left arm was the one caught. Brutus grabbed onto the monster head and started to pull up hard, he was actually steering them. The beast and Brutus spun through the air, Brutus let out a bellow of excitement . Then they crashed into the mighty waves again. This creature was quite the combatant. And a deep respect seated itself in Brutus' heart. The beast whipped itself around slamming it's mighty tail into Brutus' side. The blunt force breached Brutus' armor and a muffled snap was heard. A rib burst under his muscle. Quite the feat. Brutus' arm was still stuck in his adversaries mouth it was time to get it back into his possession. Brutus grabbed the front of the beast maw and held on with the strength of two giants. The beast squirmed as blood drifted out of it's mouth but it wouldn't let go. Brutus started to pull the beast's mouth upward, while he pushed with his captured arm. He was getting thrown about. He swung his leg over the beast head to get a better position. He was sore and blood clouded his vision. After several seconds the struggle was over he freed his arm and let the beast escape. Brutus looked onto the great serpent as it swam away. Brutus looked at his arm, small cuts were in the plate metal. He spied a slightly deeper puncture mark were his wrist was. Brutus felt a sadness for the beast, it had only wanted a meal. Brutus waited for a moment until he saw a few fish pass by, he grabbed one and quickly killed it, with sadness. It was rather large, five feet long. Brutus swung it until the beast returned. He dropped the fish for the mon- animal. Brutus began to walk again. He realized something, the beast was much like himself in a way, large and powerful, and animalistic. He felt like he had fought in a war. He looked back and the serpent was gone. Not only had he lost his tiger, he lost the serpent too. Brutus looked up at the shimmering surface. It was beautiful. Clear but so full of life. Brutus began his trek toward land again. Thinking of a few things. The most prominent was how his brothers were. And if he'd ever see his sister again. He still had quite a ways to go, to the shore and in his struggles. |

Okay... allow me to create a lore tidbit here, okay?
In the beginning of Praecantaria, when the Mir were few and attuned with their Second creators, Fate was beginning her corrupt spiral and lusted to devour the world in wickedness. One day, a star fell upon the world. It was brought down upon what is now Praecantaria and the lands were forever changed. Fate took this star and imbued it with her taint. She forged an ever-living book out of it and prepared it for passage to the Archnecromancer.
The Mir of the land saw this, and their leaders gathered together. They discussed the evils of this book, and decided it would be best to hide the book while Fate was tending to other matters. So, one night when Fate had groomed the Archnecromancer and prepared him for the wars, these Mir swept upon it like thieves in the night. They decided to keep the book away from Fate until they had the time to prepare to defeat her. But alas, one among them was a betrayer!
This one waited years until it had arranged plans for Fate. Then, one by one, he killed his former comrades, corrupted by the words of power from Fate's mouth. With his brethren slain, he took the book and handed it to Fate. Fate makes no deals, however, and destroyed the one who brought the book. After this interlude, the Archnecromancer was finally given the book... And we all know the rest.
EDIT: We actually never mentioned how the book was created (I think), now that I think about it. So I just established its creation and what happened within a span of a decade of its creation. |

[OOC]I am the only one who believes that Fate is good? I mean, honestly, Xavier and I both believe she is good, and needs to be preserved.
Also, Fate does not control Xavier through the book, he does whatever he chooses, and it so happens to firmly believe in Fate's survival.
And again, I repeat, Fate should not be considered 'evil' or 'corrupt'. I would consider her 'neutral' as it may. She does both evil and good, simply because the other gods demand it, and because she has done that before and it failed miserably.
A good lore moment, she could have designed a first 'perfect' race of humans, which had no flaws in any which way or form. Something bad happened, for example the race began to rebel against Fate, which sent things spiraling out of control.
I'm not going to go into any more detail, simply because, and I admit this, I am just too lazy.
Food for thought.

Sandromin Hes wrote:Ner'Zul Nexhawk wrote://OOC: A quick question: does (or did) AN have any followers, or is he acting all by himself?
@Xavier: Tough choice, honestly... I'd say Nexhawk is True Neutral, because his motives are kinda unknown, as well as his allegiances. He doesn't seem to act for anyone's benefit except that of his people. Also, my character's attitude towards Fate is not even clear to myself, so I guess you might not be alone... We'll see about that, I guess. //End of OOC\\ No followers; he's a necromancer, so all his followers are dead that are risen. If you read the second lore bomb a little more carefully, you'd know that I alluded to your Deathlords; he resurrected several kings as his dark minions.
//OOC: Aha, that's what I was asking about. One of my versions included several Life Wardens twisting their magic to come to the AN's side, but it actually seems viable that he would not have apprentices and instead would work alone.
@Xavier: Well, it appears that there is only one of them, and he is the Arch Necromancer himself. I might be mistaken, but it seems from Sandromin's bombs that he resides in Brutus' homeland at this moment. One wonders, would the dwarf king dare to ask for aid from such a repulsive being? //End of OOC\\ |

//OOC: Alright, I think I fixed everything that was needed to be fixed. If you notice any discrepancies in my lore or other posts that I personally missed, please point them out to me. Now, I guess, we can continue? //End of OOC\\ |

OOC: Once again, like I knew he would, Sandy came through with his godly decisions. I can accept these origins. And Nexhawk I'm working on a response as we speak. |
