Natyli's perspective. (Woman in Alixenus' dungeon.)
"If you harm me..."
Alixenus turns, hand still on the door.
"You will die."
Silence.
Then... < Alixenus' response>
OOC: going to flesh out each of my priest/priestesses eventually, just waiting for a nice moment where I can think about how everything ties together.
This girl is feisty, by the way. A kindred spirit to the great warrior of Venezzia; Alixenus himself. Lets see how he takes it.

Warm welcome didn't describe what happened when Brutus and the now fully awake group, sand men and logipriest include, entered the capital.mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, wives, fathers, cousins essentially entire families came out of their homes when the group was spotted on a nearby dune. Brutus' armor shined as bright as sun, which nearly blinded some of his new companions, whom he had grown quite fond of. They made him wear the tarp like a cloak, but he didn't mind, everything was finally going his way. His new found allies were reunited with their families, he had found one of the logipriest and finally had a way to get back to Venezzia. Brutus felt alive and happy until he realized that he'd been walking for days, only resting when the sand men needed to. His strength was nearly gone, he'll his strength was completely gone by nowhere could barley take a step forward. But just as he thought he was finally clear to rest a large group of armed sand men, and the collective converged upon him. Brutus protectively stood inform of the young logipriest. Brutus braced himself for conflict, hee knew he couldn't do much but he'd die for the logipriest child. And just as he thought his time had finally come one of the sand men, the one named, Sandromin, stepped forward and began to talk, and at that moment Brutus fell unconscious.
It had been a few days after their arrival that Brutus awoke again. The leader was no where to be found when he awoke, apparently he had already left for a summit at Venezzia. A summit he apparently wasn't invited to seeing as he was just waking up in a room in a building, in a city, in a nation, in a desert to each of which he knew little to nothing about. Brutus' neck hurt the people who were probably taking care of him had tried to take his helmet off, which wouldn't happen as long as Brutus was alive. Not only did his neck hurt his joints where throbbing in a slow, throbbing pain. With great stress Brutus stood up out of the large makeshift bed and to his surprise he was in armored, and fully bandaged. These bandages were fresh, they felt soft on his skin, much more comfortable than his heavy plate armor. However he felt naked without his artificial shell of metal.he searched around the room, it was brightly lit and gave a sense of coziness, although he had to hunch over to stand but, cozy none-the-less.then a thought dawned on him. Where were the sand men he had traveled with? Where was the logipriest? While he was pondering this both his questions were answered, in walked the logipriest and the sandman who had first helped at the same time. Brutus was elated. But he had to ask something for both of them." What your name's" |

OOC: Good news everyone, I've invented a device that forces you to read this in my voice. On another note, this thread has reached 300 posts. That is all.
So, as Sandromin found his way to Venezzia, it seemed everyone had been going there to join in on the summit. From merchants aiming for the extra cash, to the noblemen who wanted to see what would occur, to even the collectives, it seemed everyone was there.
And, as expected during contingency plans, Sandromin's caravan of diplomats had arrived beforehand. It seemed there were a few extras though...
At first, Sandromin thought he saw a large sack in the back of a wagon, but then realized it was the giant he had heard of at the collective's base. Then, he saw a green logipriest next to them, accompanied by a few diplomats. It seemed things were going to be interesting at the summit... Sandromin was going to look forward to it...
Meanwhile, the boats finally reached the Ivory Coast and a new people emerged from the fleet...
From the boat stepped off the Men of the South, or the Dawnfir. These men were on an expedition, and it seemed they had tier 3 technology... and to boot it off, it seemed Bojo was their leader.
Things are about to get interesting in Dustia. |

At last, Xavier himself stepped on those Venezzian docks. His boots make a clanking sound as he walks; two proposals are cradled in his arms.
It was a bemusing place for Xavier. He admired the greed and the merchants. How everything revolved around the market. But then he started to despise it, for he knew that was all they cared for. Nothing about the people. Noithing about their rights and liberties. Nothing. All that mattered were the merchants merchants and politicians, and that was what he despised.
Surly Alixenus will change this. I look forward to speaking with him, nonetheless.
He gazes at the Summit Building. It's marble walls shining in the sunlight with all it's splendor.
What will go on here, I do not know. What will we speak of? What will we discuss? That women, perhaps?
He flashes back to the horrid dream. Him running. The Book.
The book.
Xavier shakes his head. He could not bring the book to the conference. People will recognize it. And how disastrous it would be for him.
Now, be told, that Xavier has it hidden on his vessel. He has it hidden, and oh so very guarded. Why, all the guards are instructed to shoot on site any suspicious peoples.
That women. Whoever she is, be it a god or something else, must perish for insulting me. But I cannot do it alone. Oh no. Well, I could, but that is just too many people being fed to the slaughter. I will convince the others to aid me. An equal amount of blood with be spilled on all sides. That is good, yes. A genius am I.

Conyr looked up at the giant, craning his neck far back. He saw in the rough face eyes that expressed emotion. True emotion. Very rarely does someone express themself so freely, Conyr though with remarkable wisdom at such a young age. I think it will be safe to stay with this big one, Brutus.

Layla was swimming in her dreams. Hayde kept whispering "Further", and she kept swimming harder, and it felt like she was making progress, but Hayde's voice never sounded closer. She struggled and as she struggled, the river she was swimming against turned red; blood.
She screamed and woke up. She was in a pitch black container, cushioned from all sides, and she could feel movement. It was a transportation system of some sort, and she had no idea where she was going.
Touching her back, she found her skin smooth and unblemished. The bullet wound was healed. She supposed whoever had put her in here meant her no harm... yet. So she closed her eyes and hoped her twin Hayde would find her soon.
-
Hayde had followed Sandromin's caravan. He had a feeling it would lead him to Layla, but when the caravan arrived at Venezzia even his urgent need to find his twin was smothered in surprise. The city was swarming with people of every race, from every corner of Dustia, here for some meeting. The city was patrolled by Venezzian soldiers, order was being strictly enforced, and the streets were gleaming. Obviously the Venezzians were not going to tolerate other nations getting a bad impression.
He knew he would find Layla eventually. He had to. He'd kill to.

Darilys lay, quiet as a mouse, for hours. His hiding spot, an empty barrel, was beginning to get stuffy, but he had to make sure there was no one around before he popped out. To fill the interim, he recalled the events that led him here.
The dwarves who found him, feigning sleep, prodded and poked and eventually got bored. They told each other they'd come back at the end of the day to decide what to do with the "green man in the cave". As soon as they had left, Darilys sneaked out, followed the main tunnel of the main and burst out into sunlight. He walked along the path some way, and ahead he spied a much bigger, much more well-trodden path.
Just before he arrived, he heard voices and quickly jumped into a nearby bush. Peeking through the leafy brush he watched an entourage pass. In the center, looking distracted, was undoubtedly their leader. Xavier, he remembered. Xavier was carrying a book, and something stirred in Darilys when he saw it. He wanted that book.
So he followed. Followed Xavier as he traversed to the coast. Followed onboard Xavier's ship. A stowaway.
Now was his opportunity. The guards were ordered to shoot those who dared board the ship. Not those already on. They would not be looking for Darilys, stashed in the hull.
Peeking out, Darilys saw no-one. So he crept out, placed the lid of the barrel next to it in case he had to hide in it again, and begun searching for the book.
-
I reached the end of the mountainous range of Lucia. Nothing had caused me trouble but my own thoughts. I was worried. I did not exactly know what to do when I reached Venezzia.
I did not know when the supernova would begin. I did not know when the world would end. I did not know what to tell the nations. How would I explain that the world they knew and loved would end?
The world they knew and loved... an inkling of an idea sparkled in my mind; tantalising and just out of reach.
Fate will guide me. That goddess will be watching me, as fate guides me. I hope she's annoyed that I defied her.
I marched on.
Little did I know that as I made my way to Venezzia slowly and alone, a lady chuckled as she listened to my thoughts.
Yes... Fate will guide you. |

Alixenus froze for a moment, halfway out of the door. Then he came back in, closed the door, locked it and slid a sheet of metal across the view port. He turned and started walking back to his captive.
"Are you threatening me? Perhaps your jungle tribe didn't teach you logic, so allow me to explain. You are in no position to threaten, nor can you bargain. You have no control over this situation. All you can do is plead, and beg."
He was standing in front of her again now, his voice conveying indignant rage and a sense of superiority over his prisoner.
"What? You think that your friends will save you? No-one knows where they are. Your people perhaps? They all died when the curse of undeath was lifted. Your island is now Venezzian soil. Even now paupers and privateers alike are building colonies there. Your trees will fuel our fires and build our ships. You have nothing to bargain with. You. Have. Lost."
Natyli refused to tolerate this any longer. Before Alixenus could react she raised her leg and Kicked him square across the face. Caught completely off guard he tumbled across the filthy stone floor as a bundle of fabrics. When he finally came to rest, he let spat out some blood and let out some sort of open mouthed hiss, like a threatened animal, to vent his pain
"That was, unexpected. It seems I've angered the tree loving pacifist. She's made me bleed. Oh dear."
Alixenus rose and dusted himself off.
"You said that if I harmed you I would die. But now that you've harmed me....it may be difficult to secure your release. But I will heed your warning and keep you unharmed. My patience will only extend so far however. For your sake, you had best have something planned. Maybe the conference will demand your release... Well, we will see won't we?"
He left the cell and walked out into the broad daylight. And even though he strolled through the fragrances and perfumes of the Spice market, the sweet scent of the Jungle clung rebelliously to his face all the way back to his chambers. A fitting reminder, he thought, not to underestimate her again. |

Natyli slumped, exhausted. It had taken all her courage to remain silent during Alixenus' tirade. She strained against her shackles, to no avail. Vyzion, where are you?
-
Darilys had found it. The book. He gazed at it, enraptured. It was calling to him. He stretched out a hand... And touched it.
-
I shuddered.
Something was wrong. I felt slimy, contaminated. Evil.
What in the name of Dustia just happened?
I started sprinting. Along the plains between Lucia and Venezzia I encountered no others. The feeling of trepidation increased as I got closer.
This was not good. Not good at all. |

And with that the strange company set off toward where " sandy" said a meeting was about to take place The strange company had been wandering around the city for hours. With many people giving them strange looks of wonderment and fright.a pair of guard even stopped them as they entered a large market. One of the guards the younger one jabbed his spear at Brutus stuttering " L-leave here M-m-monster!" So Brutus did something that would get the message of " leave me alone" across to the guards. Brutus grabbed the spear with one hand and snapped it like it was a mere twig to a child. The already frightened guard made a silent scream and ran his partner, one who must have seen horrible things was unphased, but ran after the young guard shouting at Brutus "you've done it now beast, wait until the lord lieutenant hears of this!" Brutus didn't care for this Mr. Lou tenant, even if he was a lord. Brutus, was extremely happy of how well that played out, his two companions however, were not. Conyr, was shaking his head at his large protecter then shuddered. "What wrong Conyr?" " nothing Brutus, something just feels...wrong here..." Brutus didn't like that. " We go back to carts?" " no I'll be fine" Conyr gave a false smile, but Brutus knew it wasn't fine. He wouldn't press on. "Brutus wonder," he started after a few silent moments " If other green people here." Sandy shrugged. Conyr piped up" I feel like some might be here, I can't be sure though." Brutus shrugged. It was then that he realized that, the guards would return eventually, most likely with reinforments. "We go now. Find Alixenus now. Then find family." Brutus put his hand on Comyr's shoulder like a father would with a son. The strange company then continued to try and navigate the large city. Hopefully without running into trouble. |

Ring, ring ring....
Ring, ring, ring...
It is time. The counsel commences. Oh, what a lovely day in history! The first World Counsel! Oooh, I should pen that. It is a good name.
He chuckles. He finds this whole thing, amusing.
I'll make sure to take the floor. I'm getting excited just by thinking about it!
Then something struck him. Like an arrow in his heart. A pain. A burning fire in his chest. At first he thought he really was struck. But then, he knew...
The book was not in his possession any longer. He felt it. Sensed it. The burning grew stronger. The connection, pulling apart!
Xavier motioned to his escort.
"Alright, men! A valuable possession of mine has been stolen! This is a threat to Lucia's security! I give you permission to shoot any suspicious person. Be it a Venezzian, Sand men, or bloody Alixenus himself. You five, seal off and escape points on the dock. You two, watch the water. The rest, follow me to the ship. Lets kill the thief."
The men did as the were told. The waters were secure, the dock secure, and soon the boat secure.
Xavier and five men boarded the ship.
"Search diligently and furiously. All fellow dwarves had been escorted to the dock. Any other man in the ship, with be stabbed, or shot!"
The men scurried around the ship. /they searched though every nook and cranny, no matter how small.
Except one.
Xavier went down to the musty hull. Rats scurried by his feet as he walked. He walked till he neared the hiding place. And he saw it. Saw him. A man, dressed in a loincloth, was huddling by the book, examining the contents.
"Intruder in the hull!"
And with that, in a swift motion, Xavier unsheathed his blade and slashed at the man! |

I think I know where Alixenus is at," Conyr shouted to Brutus over the loud bells. Brutus heard him and nodded. Brutus didn't want to waste time getting to his friend finally. To make the trek easier he grabbed Conyr, and sandy each in an arm, even to their dismay he now fully healed giant ran through the city at a pace of a horse. Rounding coroners and knocking down a Cart, accidentally of course, the giant was much like a bull in a glass shop. Conyr said something but the bells drowned him out. And he actually seemed to be enjoying the ride. Even the silent sand man had a smile across his face. But Brutus stopped abruptly when he heard Conyr cry out in pain. Had Brutus hurt him. Brutus put down the young logipriest and sand man. " is Conyr okay?!" Brutus exclaimed in a frightened manner. "Yes Brutus. It's just... It felt as if a sword had slashed my skin." Brutus looked over the boy,not blood, no marks. What had happened? "Will Conyr be okay?"the giant looked visibly worried. The young logipriest couldn't help but smile at his protector. " yes Brutus, I'll be fine, let's find your friend, then we'll the others." Reluctantly Brutus picked up Conyr and put him on his shoulder, "Hold tight." Conyr grabbed onto one of the horns on Brutus' helmet. Brutus still just picked up his sand man companion. After asking again if Conyr was ready, Brutus began his charge again toward where he heard the bells. Until something told him to stop again. " Conyr, get off and stay with sandy."this wasn't the usual Brutus, this was a stern giant now, not the protective Brutus. Conyr got down. " what is it?" The boy was inquisitive and smart, he knew something was very wrong. "Brutus, know where old one is." Brutus turned to sandy. " go to meeting place.find Sandromin. Protect Conyr. Brutus go find old one." And with that Brutus was off like a bolt from a ballista, running toward the nearest dock, he thought he had heard something from the earth when he entered the city, but he couldn't be sure. Now he was. There were three of the logipriest hear in the city. Three more on their way. Bruts wouldn't lose them this time. |

Darilys was oblivious to anything else. As he turned each page, wonder poured through his body. The runes... The runes were so familiar... He looked on his body.
They were one and the same.
He flipped, saw more runes, saw runes on his body that matched those runes. But Darilys did not care. He was absorbed by the book, all he wanted to do was keep reading... Reading... A noise disturbed him, he ignored it. A man, shouting to search a ship... Darilys did not care about ships... He just wanted to read... Be quiet, he thought. Everything went silent. Darilys smiled; the book agreed. The book wanted to be read. It would do anything to keep being read. Darilys heard footsteps behind him and a cry: "Intruder in the hull!". He heard the metallic zing of a sword being unsheathed, still he kept reading. Go away, he thought. Nothing hit him.
Xavier was thrown with the force of a charging elephant backwards and slammed against the other side of the hull, smashed through inches of thick wood, and splashed into the water. He arose, gasping and furious, to watch the rest of his dwarves sailing from the boat in similar trajectories, shock on their faces. He swam back to the dock and stood there, watching the boat warily, pondering his next move.

Natyli glared at the two men as they unshackled her hands and reshackled them into other bindings, also inscribed by runes. She struggled as they hauled her out of the dungeon into daylight. Curious people watched as she was hauled to the palace.
The men were strong, but they could not resist the perfume. She had bathed in it for years; all female logipriests did. The effect had dulled on people of their own race, but prolonged exposure to it by others caused infatuation, especially to the opposite sex. Only the strongest resisted it.The men now glared back at her, hungrily, and Natyli felt fear. She was bound, unable to escape... They started salivating. Instead of continuing towards the palace, they turned down a dark alleyway.

Conyr watched Brutus lope away. He felt wrong; the giant's company was extremely comfortable. When he was sitting on Brutus' shoulder he had felt like a giant himself, the land was open to him. He had seen over rooftops, and using this knowledge of the city's layout, he knew Brutus was heading for the port. Scrabbling up a nearby building with incredible agility, Conyr decided to follow his giant friend.
Soaring over rooftops, he felt like he had wings. Conyr laughed as he chased Brutus' upper torso, the only part visible to him from his position. He could see the masts of ships ahead. Suddenly, a scream rent the air. Conyr slowed and looked down. He couldn't believe his eyes: Natyli was being assaulted by two men, intent on tearing off her rough clothes. Conyr was unaffected by the perfume and still too young to understand what was happening, so he watched, confused, for a while. Of course, he had seen the older logipriests mate, but never so roughly. One of the men actually punched her to her knees, throwing her head up. Then she saw him.
"Conyr, help!"
Galvanised into action, he acted without thinking and launched himself straight from the roof onto the shoulders of one of the men. He heard a crack as he leapt off, and turned to see the man on the ground clutching his knee. The problem was, thr man with the broken knee had fallen on Natyli, and he had a sabre pressed against her throat. They were no mercenaries, these were experts in their field, and they had just turned a surprise to their advantage. The other man turned towards Conyr menacingly, drawing two sabres. Uh oh.

I was standing on top of a roof, staring at the ship with a dwarf shaped hole in its hull. The dwarf responsible for the hole, Xavier, was silently watching the ship, dripping wet. Entry into Venezzia had been easy enough. The crowds swarming in, all conversing about delegations, representatives, kings, lord lieutenants, and a great meeting, a great conference. He blended in, and sought the source of his discomforting feeling. This is where he found himself.
It must be Darilys. The old man was always too smart for his own good. I remembered when he used to host riddle competitions for the children, tell tall tales of great heroes and villains. I loved his stories. Behind his elderly guise, though, he held a yearning to be younger. His powers used to be great before the inevitable progress of time weakened him. I knew I'd find Darilys in that ship. I knew he would have to die. |

Vyzion Eyri wrote:Darilys was oblivious to anything else.

City guards were scrambling onto rooftops to get a better view of what was going on. But a few streets from the Port, Alixenus saw the strangest scene being acted out in a back alley. Freezing to the spot to see what was going on, most of the marines passed by him, a few staying to check he was alright.
When the street had cleared , he saw two city guards running from Brutus, past a sandman and an elderly looking Logipriest. Next to Brutus was a pair of Logipriests. One young and male and the other... was the Prisoner.
"Oh seven hells, this going to go bad very fast" Alixenus subtly made the hand signal for "Be ready. Use spears" before approaching Brutus with genuine friendship, hoping he could diffuse this before Brutus turned him into paste.
"Brutus! My friend! It is so good to see you! Where have been all this time?" Brutus slapped his chest in greeting and said "Brutus...has been all over" He let out a mighty laugh and moved to pick Alixenus up.
But Conyr, being perceptive, had seen the emotions etched on Natyli's face when she saw Alixenus. "Wait!" He yelled at Brutus. The giant stopped, perplexed. "Why stop?" "Ask him why Natyli is in chains and was attacked in his city" Brutus almost looked hurt at Conyr's near-accusation. He turned to Alixenus and said "Why?"
"There is no point in lying to you." Alixenus said as he slowly loosed his sword in its Scabbard. "Natyli is a prisoner of the Republic of Venezzia for crimes perpetrated by the Logipriest nation, which include a raid by Golems and a full scale Zombie siege" "You chain her?" Hostility was evident in Brutu's voice. "Yes, to prevent escape and prevent her use of Magic. I was having her brought from a secure Dungeon to the South to the Council complex for the Talks" "Where guard? Why was she attacked" "Those idiots that ran off were her guard. Wait! WAIT BRUTUS! They were under strict orders to bring her to the talks, they weren't supposed to be in this alley. Now, granted Natyli is young and Men have their evils, but those men were too disciplined to risk throwing their careers away by defying my order not to harm her."
The tension in that alley was Palpable. Brutus, conflicted over his loyalty to the Logipriests and Alixenus. Conyr inspecting every inch of the chains to try to free Natyli. The old Logipriest, looking highly suspicious and the Sandman keeping a careful eye on everyone.

" Alixenus, friend." Brutus moved to Conyr and the old one " Conyr and old one friends." He then moved to Natyli, " this one, Brutus not know. But protect with life." Brutus broke down and fell to his knees. The strong giant able to uproot tree smash through walls and run as fast as a horse. Wasn't a giant now. He was a simple broken man. "Brutus lost family. All dead. Brutus find Alixenus, friend. Lost you." Brutus looks at his friend with pleading eye's "Brutus found green people, lot them. Then found. Brutus happy again.then Brutus find city. Xavier, dripping wet, speaks:

He points his shining blade toward the woman.
"You wicked harlot! Where is your friend, hmmm? Your friend stole my book! But I bet you already knew that. If you were in my lands, I would have your head."
Xavier lowers his sword from the shaken women, and looks to Alixenus.
"But these are your lands, comrade. Or should I say Supreme Leader?"
He chuckles to himself. The burning in his heart is still present, but albeit dimmed.
"I hope you didn't decline the job? It 'tis a simple one. My people are doing well anyway. But on to the subject at hand.
He then scowls at the giant and logipriests
"These people have stolen an important artifact to the Lucia, destroyed my ship so I cannot return home, and attempted to murder the Grand Liberator. Now, what do you say about that?" |

I watched in amazement as this giant defied the powers of the book Darilys had found, simply picking him up and running off. I watched Xavier for a moment as he ran into the boat, most likely seeking the book himself. It would be a problem, I realised. But this conference was too important to bring up such dark topics.
I could not let this meeting go badly.
Surprised, I saw Xavier climb out, empty-handed. Darilys still had the book?
The dwarf king sprinted away in chase of Brutus. I promptly followed along the rooftops.
As I jumped across a narrow alleyway, the tile I put my weight on slipped and I fell into the alley. I lashed my vine onto the chimney in front of me, arresting my fall. Panting, I pulled myself up.
Once back up, I allowed myself a rest to calm my beating heart, and I saw a dropship. I blinked. It was glowing. No. A part of it was glowing. Green. One of the logipriests was in it.
I gulped and pressed on for Brutus, thinking rapidly. Darilys was the most prominent problem currently. I had no idea what effects the book had enacted upon him. Logipriests can only sense where another is located if they are dreaming the Great Dream. So whoever was in the dropship must be asleep. I ran a checklist. If we were all separated, Natyli would be too angry to sleep. Conyr too excited. Darilys, I knew where he was. Hayde and Layla... They would not sleep until they were reunited.
Layla... She had sustained grievous injury. Hope blossomed inside me. If that was Layla in the dropship, I felt almost sorry for whoever captured her.
The last time the twins were separated... I let myself drift back into memories.
Pirates, burning our trees. Vicious fighting. We were a new race then, our skin still beige and untouched, our powers yet to be discovered. Our island was actually much further north of the mainland, and instead of a thin channel, a whole ocean separated us. We had not even heard about Venezzia or Lucia, and we didn't even know what sand was. We were bordered on all sides by sheer cliffs. We were happy.
Not now. Pirates wanted our land, in their eyes a safe haven, to stash their booty. And they did not care for our lives. What they did was despicable. They raped and killed the women and chained the young men up to serve a lifetime of slavery. Hayde, just coming into manhood, was taken. Layla was hiding and she did not know until it was too late. Too late, she came out. Too late, she realised her other half was gone. She turned upon the last of us, the survivors, and her wrath was an inferno.
"Cowards! Why did you not stop them, why did you not save them? Are we so weak as to flail before some wooden floating vessels? Their boats are made from trees! We are living in them, for the love of Priestess! You let our family get taken. You let our children die. You let those disgusting, filthy pirates take my twin!"
She was shouting and in tears by her last words. Tactlessly, someone piped up.
"Well, I didn't see you doing anything."
Layla turned, her eyes had murder in them. The logipriest who spoke those words quailed, and I, well ashamed of my cowardice at that point, would not have been surprised if he had just dropped dead. Then Layla turned, walked to the coast where the pirates had assaulted. Cautiously, I followed.
She stood upon the cliff where the pirates sailed off.
And sung.
Her voice was laced with sadness, longing, and desperation. I realised she had hid her emotions behind her anger. She had hid the void behind a thin veil, a curtain that obscured a grand, empty stage.
That was all I recognised, however. The language was one I had never heard before. We only spoke one language on the island, so I did not understand how she knew...
It was too much to ponder, however. More important events were taking place. Such as the island moving.
Layla did not stop singing for a week. The island kept moving for a week. Through storms and scorching droughts, as the weather grew warmer as we moved south, she sang.
The logipriests, even the one who spoke against her, came to watch. There were tears in their eyes, such was her sorrow.
Eventually, on the horizon, we spotted the black sails. The evening of that day, we could hear their laughter.
Dawn the next day, their spotters saw us. And what a sight we must have been.
Our inexorable progress eventually made the situation clear for both parties.
The pirates were literally between a rock and a hard place. The mainland halted their progress, and they could not turn back because the logipriest island was closing in on them.
The afternoon of that day, the ships were slowly being crushed between the mainland and island.
Pirates were jumping overboard and the captured logipriests were jumping onto vines I had attached to the cliff front when I realised what was going to happen.
Hayde saw his twin sister, heard her song, and scaled the rock itself, skinning himself but not noticing. He reached her, and in that instant she stopped singing and collapsed into his arms.
No one had dared come between the twins since then. Until now.
Snapping out of my reverie, I realised I had let myself get washed away on the tide of memory once again. I resumed the chase.
I reached the congregation and had to stop for a moment to take the whole situation in.
A giant, three logipriests, the Lord-Lieutenant of Venezzia and the Grand Liberator of Lucia, all in one place. Incredible; unprecedented.
"-attempted to murder the Grand Liberator. Now, what do you say about that?"
Xavier was angry. He could not see Darilys, who was hiding behind Brutus. From my vantage point though, I saw him. His hands were twitching towards his loincloth. I groaned. Of all the hiding places...
I decided the tension was too great for anything good to be made from it, so I broke it.
I jumped down, rolled, and stopped right in the middle of the confrontation.
"What the-", yelped Xavier. |

"You!", hissed Alexinus, his eyes narrowing suspiciously.
I ignored them, turning to Brutus.
"Move aside."
He gazed at me for a while, then shuffled across.
Conyr and Natyli watched silently as I approached Darilys.
"It's mine", he said brusquely. "You'll not have it."
"Father, don't do this."
He looked at me, disbelieving, guilty, furtive.
"Father, I implore you. Give the book back."
He still did not say anything. Then-
Slam! An invisible force knocked me off my feet. Then Darilys was on top of me, strangling me. His eyes were red. I did not fight. Slowly, slowly, he softened his grip. I gasped as I sat up. He was looking at his hands, crying.
"We are not murderers, father. Give back the book."
He took it out of his loincloth. Alexinus slapped his forehead with his hand and muttered something about winter and warm clothing.
His hand was trembling; his eyes were on the book. I was watching him intently. Conyr was watching a sparrow catch an updraft.
Then he turned and ran. "Don't hurt me, don't hurt me, I just want to read the b-"
I flicked my vine, it curled around his neck, and the resounding crack of his spine was heard by all in the silent street.
Darilys fell, never to rise again.
I turned to Xavier.
"Take your book."
I turned and saw Conyr staring at me, his wide brown eyes confused. Natyli had a hand over her mouth and tears blurred her own hazel eyes.
"Don't follow me."
Then I ran like a coward in the opposite direction, fighting tears of my own. |

Immediately, a sandman soldier appears and begins speaking to Sandromin.
"Sir, there are boats that have a people of an unknown sort on board. They seem to be well advanced in technology!"
"Have there been any negotiations? What are they here for?"
"It seems they hail from a faraway land, and have no leader, so they adopted somebody known as Bojo. From what they have said, they were very advanced, but their society collapsed due to unknown events [FATE]. They have come here searching for new land. They also seem willing to share their technology with us."
"Well, have they a representative? Also, I will see what is to be said about this in the PDC."
"Yes, they do. Bojo is currently on his way."
"Good, then let us begin the negotiations. You are dismissed."

Despite nearly facing death at the hands of Brutus then Xavier, Alixenus had recovered his composure fairly well. Brutus was crouched by the double doors, watching the scene. He could fit in, but that would make the room unbearably cramped. Xavier had been reminded twice now by his aides to stop reading his book and pay attention to proceedings. The Logipriests were sitting around a small side table, waiting with no small amount of trepidation for what was to happen next. Natyli, however, was still being held sperately in a private room. Alixenus hoped to have that resolved during one of the breaks in the conference.
"Alixenus? Would you care to take the floor?"
The Diyadians had been somewhat sketchy on what the purpose of this conference was, so everyone brought their own ideas. Sandromin and Alixenus were to act as mediators and judges in the event that any negotiations became heated. Alixenus straightened his Robes and stood before the congregation.
"Thank you Sandromin. Your highnesses, Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the City of Venezzia. It is my hope that with this conference we may be able to heal some of the wounds that have recently befell this world and perhaps, with the grace of the Gods, foster new ties of brotherhood between us. Venezzia is a prime example of this. But a few months ago we were ravaged by a brief and bloody civil war, insitgated by Traitorous merchants and a rogue sand Lord. Did we cull these merchants? Did we hold Sandromin responsible? No, we reformed, rebuilt and created a closer unity with our neighbours."
Xavier seemed none too impressed with Alixenus' speech thus far, but he ignored the Dwarf and carried on.
"Change is the way of the world, as is progress. But this should mean that just because things can change does not mean that they have to." He glanced at Duke Vincenzo who was watching from one of the Galleries. "This also should mean that just because something has always been one way, does not mean that that is the best way"
"I will not deny that Venezzia has not been the cause of much woe during recent times, much as it has also suffered at the hands of others. But what's done is done. We have here, in our hands, an opportunity to change this world for the better. I ask you not to squander it."
Alixenus finished but remained standing. He was met with a respectable round of applause for his words. When it died down he spoke again. "With ceremony out of the way, let us begin our work. If there are no objections I would like to open this conference with my agenda" There did not appear to be any outward objections to this. Waiters silently moved around the table, refilling the drinks of the ambassadors.
"Excellent, you will find my agenda in the yellow sheath. I wish to discuss the following. 1: The rights of Venezzian miners in the Lucian foothills. 2: The persistant issue of a race of indutrial barbarians to the south. 3: The rights of the remaining Logipriests and colonisation rights to the Logipriest nation. 4: Trade lane control over the Western sea, particularly to Diyad. Lastly, formalisation of Venezzia's borders with the Sandmen and Lucia."
So the conference began... |

One of the Collective delegates stood to take the floor. "As a nation newly breaking from an isolationist policy, we wish to discuss the fourth agenda item. We would like to take part in trade with all nations via the Western sea channels for raw materials. We have many technological wares to offer which would be of great use to all nations, and wish to help in the re-vitalization of the economy." it said in a mechanical, droning voice. |

Brutus was bored. There was no other way to put it, he had nothing of input for any of the nations. He didn't have anything to say about his own home seeing as most of the people were dead, missing or feral. He didn't need a trade route to ruins. The only thing he was really good for was fighting things. He did listen to what the others had to say while they went about negotiations and treaties and the sort. Many sounded grand others not so much. But all Brutus could really think about was how there were still three other logipriest somewhere, and as much as he wanted Natyli to be free he under stood she was Alixenus' charge. The only thing Brutus could think of doing at the moment was either sleeping which he didn't need, waiting which would be tedious or looking for the logo priest who had ran away. He understood why the logipriest had ran. Killing wasn't a business that was for everyone, Brutus had grown to the feeling of life receding from the mortal form. But he could tell the logipriest wasn't a murderer. While a debate had broken out between the people's Brutus stood and walked away in a manner that wouldn't disturb any one. The city was beautiful, he had only seen it twice really. And both times it was under bad circumstances. As Brutus looked at the buildings a sense of sadness washed over him. He was starting to remember why he stayed away from cities, mainly it was because people feared him, but they reminded him of his old home. Brutus remembered the twisting streets, the fragrant smells and the great buildings made over thousands of years. But that place was dead, or at least the spirit of it. Most of the city was probably still standing, but nature has a way of reclaiming what was once hers. As Brutus walked, more and more memories flooded back. He saw a father and son come in with eh catch of the day, the son smiling without his front teeth, he couldn't have been much older than seven years. Brutus' own son had been older but he helped him many times at the mill where Brutus' own father had worked. His son had been so strong, and many women had wanted him as a husband, but he declined in the most kind way possible . Brutus was so proud of him. He kept walking, he couldn't let memories burden him now. Brutus kept walking and started to wonder if the people of these lands even needed him, all he had really done here is fight things and bring about conflict. He tried to not hurt people generally but...he just couldn't help it. The metal men had angered him, he didn't really want to fight, he just did. After walking for what seemed like hours Brutus decided to return to the conference hall, not much had really transpired it seemed, or perhaps many things had been accomplished. He didn't really care. So Brutus took up his spot by the door again and sat silently.
(Ooc) this is just an off side thing, it's how I'm going to get around participating in the meeting because I got nothing for it.ao this is just to Brutus not any one else.(ooc) |
