Nexhawk listened attentively as the dwarf talked about his mistress' desires. Mentions of Thanatos and his affiliation with death caused his mind to reminisce on one of the events of the day the Ashborn arrived on this continent.
Death... Was that the one whose presence was revealed so abruptly? "I do not know which of the gods you call Freedom, so this tells me almost nothing. I would like, however, to hear more about these three people whose names you've said. Who are they? Leaders of powerful nations? A band of odd heroes looking for an adventure?"
His gaze fell upon the book that the dwarf thumped several times. "And your mistress that you so obediently follow... What will make me think I can trust her motives? Where is the proof that she has cleansed herself of the corruption that befell here millennia ago? And tell me," Nexhawk crossed hands on his chest, "dwarf, whose name I don't even know - do you trust your Fate?" |

Brutus was stunned when he met the two officers. The older one Lombaradi, reminded Brutus of his brother draven, calm collected and very precise with his words. A perfect officer. Ravena reminded Brutus of storm warden Grftius. He was confident, strong...and oddly short. Brutus thought they were both great men. And he immediately thanked them for their efforts for his people. "You need many ships. Maybe twenty and one. Big, very big. Like that one. " Brutus pointed to a troop carrier ship out the window. "Bring good solders, well trained. Two full platoons. Spears best. Kelp ferals away. "Um ferals? What is a feral, sir?" Lombardi asked respectively. Brutus remembered that these people weren't accustomed in the words of his people. "Feral undead, like logipriest. But worse. Stronger faster. Meaner. Hungrier. Also, there are feral giants. Worst of all. Get in between plates of armor, aim for heads. Or take off limbs." "We're fighting, the undead? And it's just undead right? No mauraders?" Ravena asked almost jokingly. "No, there are marauders. They fine." Brutus was very matter of fact about the raiders or mauraders. He liked that better marauder. "If see men in black cloaks, they are rangers. Heavy armor people are vanguard, and people who float are Storm men." The two officers looked at each other as if asking them selves just what they had gotten into. "And, are we looking for any certain land marks?"Lombardi asked with curiosity. "Tents. Many tents. City of tents. Stay away from actual city. You know it when you see it. Stay away from tower. Not tents." "Anything else, sir?" "Two things. Brutus not sir, he Brutus. Second. Launch four flares on landing. No Brutus have to go, ride air ship. Brutus trust friends. Save Brutus' people." The giant put his hands on the officers shoulders, then he turned and left.
Brutus loved the air ship. It was a beautiful piece of master craft work. He admired it and had no problem adjusting to it. Brutus wasn't content to stay inside of the cabin. He stood up at the highest point taking in the beauty of the majestic wilds of the air. Hundreds of old stories flooded his mind. Fornost and the air wyrm. Galatius the sky weaver. Untarix sky-bane. Stories of great air pirates. Stories that had been told for generations. Engrained into the giants mind. He couldn't help but laugh. Then the ashborn bellowed across the sky. Brutus was startled by the voice, almost lost his grip. Almost. When the embershard passed into his view Brutus was still at his perch. Brutus stared at the Ashborn. Majestic in their nature. They truly were a marvel to the giant. Brutus wanted to met the fire people in person. So with perfect form the giant launched himself from the top of the airship onto the deck of the Ashborn. Landing without crushing anyone in a crouched position. The giant heard a few the sailors gasp. The giant stood up slowly. Looked to Ignatus and happily said in a calm normal manner. "Hello. Nice meet you." The giant extended his large hand to the Ashborn for a formal handshake. "My nam Brutus. Who you?" |

Needless to say, the Ashborn were quite startled when the giant fell on the Embershard from the sky. They recovered quickly, however, seeing how he didn't show any hostile intentions.
As the giant who called himself Brutus extended his hand, Ignatus readily shook it and greeted him. "Glad to meet you, Brutus! My name is Ignatus, and I am, as you can see," he spread his arms widely, "the captain of this ship. We have never seen any of your kind on Praecantaria, but heard much about giants and your homeland." With these words, Ignatus' face took a sorrowful expression. He almost whispered to Brutus, "Please know that I was extremely sorry to hear that the tragic events that happened to your home were done by the hands of the Deathlords, after they were banished from Praecantaria." |

Thanatos sits unfazed by the loud voice, he almost shuddered at the thought of how it paled in comparison to Fate's loud, desperate, whiny voice. He walked and made his way towards the deck and looked out over the ocean. He yelled out to the captain of the vessel.
"Well you seem friendly enough, but I fear we may not have the time to land this vessel. However I could make you a proposal."
Thanatos pulls up his face mask and leaps from the deck of the airship, his leather hood flying off of his head. Such a dangerous stunt would kill a man. But as if rehearsed, Brutus instinctively plucks him out of the air as he reaches the ship, and lowers him in front of Ignatus.
"Would you care to join us on our journey to my country? You may have missed the Assembly but with me are the representatives of three other nations as well."
OOC:
@ Brutus: Sorry for controlling your character like that. You can see I'm really uncomfortable doing that. But I made Thanatos jump and forgot how high I made the ship go. I really don't want to kill my character..again lol

After telling Brutus about his condolences, Ignatus could not believe how convenient it was that the next man who appeared on the ship seemed to be the avatar of death itself. Albeit his aura radiated this powerful element around him, he was certainly not one of the Deathlords. No, it was something... completely different, as if the man was the manifestation of the element, not its corrupted wielder.
Many Ashborn felt the same and yet still casted suspicious, although unnoticed, glances at the purple-eyed man, but Ignatus understood the trustworthiness of his motives. He nodded, "I shall accept your proposal. And I hope you won't mind if I send a missive to my ruler with these news, so that he could join us." He gestured to one of his crew members, which hastily wrote a short letter and gave it to the phoenix messenger. As the bird flew away, Ignatus gave directions to his second-in-command to assume control of the ship. Then he turned to face the purple-eyed man. "I think I am ready to travel with you and your companions." He glanced upward, at the airship. "I would like you to note, however, that the Fiery Lord will find a way to wherever your vehicle will take us. Therefore, I would warn the guards of the country in your place, so that they would let him pass freely to the place where we will hold our discussions." |

OOC: Well it seemed everyone was saying the exact same thing. I didn't really read into everyone'es responses. Sorry that I caused the confusion. I personally disagree with the several sources thing.
1.) I believe magick is more like the Force in Star Wars... before there were midi-chlorians of course. Magick, or the energy needed to use it, is all around us. Those who manipulate it are magick users, be them mages, wizards, sorcerers etc.. Some can do so better than others. It comes natural to some, others have to spend years learning and training.
2.) Just gonna quote Sandy on this: "Auras are a natural trait, and are hugely affected by surroundings (and genetics as well), but is just as well determined by personal characteristics, such as willpower and strength of mind."
3.) The vision is something I introduced but is pretty much how Sandy described it. |

If I understood Alixenus correctly from his quote, "Magic is particularly strong in several locations with those born near them developing a magical affinity," he is for the sources theory. And, at least for me, it seems the most logical explanation as to why literally (there are actually no exceptions whatsoever) everyone on Praecantaria is able to and utilizes magic freely, but in Mediterra only very few do. No offense, but I feel like an extremely difficult learning process and history with necromancers is not really a viable excuse for the entire continent to shy away from magic. Freedom is the one that aims to 'liberate' the people of Dustia from Fate. Thanatos is the one who is now Death Incarnate, and is in command of the nation 'Diyad'. Alixenus is and noble warrior, and friend, of mine. There was once a great turmoil in his nation, so I am not quite sure what he is in charge of now. And Sandromin, the shy boy, that man rarely ever speaks. He is in command of the Sand Nation, located in the center of Mediterra."
Xavier grins a mischievous grin. "Do you sir think that I like Fate? I have met her personally, twice. She was better the second time, but... I do what I need to do. And define 'Proof', Nexhawk, the Fiery One. What could I give you, hmm? A piece of paper? How about an artifact, hmm? How about she herself?"
And with that, a faint mist started to surround the area. All bystanders, all servants, seemed to stand still. Lifeless, unmoving.
The elderly man was bewildered. The mist in front of he and Xavier began to take the shape of a young woman.

It's also been said that there are guilds and groups of people who use magick on Mediterra. I don't believe that we should have to make a workaround for what seems to be simply cultural differences. The continent consists of about three nations. And I'm not sure about the magick user ratio in Lucia. Everyone in Diyad learns to use magick, but they don't, in favor of alkemistry. I can easily see how the common people would shy away from a particular practice out of fear, or sheer difficulty. But that is just my view. "Nak'Sora, what a surprise!" he bowed his head respectfully, for she was still a god, regardless of his allegiance or lack thereof to her. "You certainly must be glad that your book is in your hands again," he nodded in the direction of the dwarf holding the Dark Arcanum. "But please indulge me - how did it become possible that the Dark Arcanum, stolen by Life Wardens from the Chamber of the Four before their exile, turned to be in this dwarf's hands? I would be eternally eager to hear the entire chain of events that led to this situation."

//OOC: Ok, I figure it is time to disclaim a bit more about the story of the Ashborn and their neighbouring people. Excuse for the long post in advance. //End of OOC\\
At the beginning of time, the entire continent of Praecantaria was populated simply by five men. They were good friends among themselves and explored the lands as well as themselves. And so it was discovered that each one of them possessed supernatural powers of unknown kind; it seemed as if they were able to harness the raw force of the gods themselves. And it was true, for the gods had gifted them with such powers.
Soon after the wondrous discovery, five gods descended on Praecantaria and enhanced the magical powers of the men. The five humans each chose an element they would control, and the respective gods gave them the ability to reside over the realm of a certain element: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and Life.
This was not enough, however; such power was still untamed, and there was much learning to do. For that purpose, the gods called upon a sixth one, a goddess. Her name was Nak'Sora, and she had the knowledge of the timelines and was the herald of Time itself. She wrote a book named Arcanum for the men to study, so they could learn many spells and rule over the elements.
Time passed, and the men were now experienced sorcerers in their respective elements. One day, they found a village on their continent, and the villagers were found to be attuned to magic as well. Each of the sorcerer demigods soon had a trail of followers from that village, and here they decided to share their knowledge. This was the moment when the five great nations of Praecantaria were born.
More time passed, and with it the first mages ceased to exist. Their legacy remained, however; the nations prospered and thrived, guided by their gods and Nak'Sora. The Order of the Five was created in order to guard the Arcanum, so that neither of the nations would seize it and destroy the balance.
She of the Future, however, soon realised that fate itself was in her control, and, unfortunately, not even gods are resilient to the corruptive effect of power. Thus, Nak'Sora started to twist everyone's lives in order to fulfil the plans of her own, the scenarios she began to come up with at the dawn of her insanity. She created quarrels between the nations and sought to undo the work of her colleagues for pure pleasure of experimentation.
Hence, soon enough the entire continent was engulfed in war. And as Nak'Sora's mind became more and more warped, the Arcanum's pages started to blacken. The Five, all that time undisturbed by the wars, saw the corruption growing within the book and renamed it the Dark Arcanum, pointing out that it had to be guarded at all costs by the five strongest archmages of the nations in order to keep the madness solely within the book.
Meanwhile, while the wars raged, the Life Wardens emerged as the most potent of nations. Due to their control over life itself, they could keep their comrades alive at all times. Not only their numbers were never dwindling, but their Archmage decided to steal some of the secrets of the Dark Arcanum for his nation. Thus appeared the first Deathlords, twisted Life Masters who had control not only over life, but also over death itself. They used their black magic to resurrect both fallen allies and enemies, and the tide seemed to turn even more on their side. Nak'Sora triumphed.
What happened next was, then, entirely unpredictable for her. The four remaining nations, repulsed by the actions of the fifth, united together against the common enemy. The Archmage of Life Wardens was banished from the Order of the Five, therefore reducing its number to Four. The Life Wardens and Deathlords were defeated by the combined power of the four races. Extermination seemed to cruel, however, and it was decided soon that they would be ultimately banished from the continent of Praecantaria. Before the date of their exile, several Life Wardens managed to sneak into the Chamber of the Four and stole the Dark Arcanum, somehow fooling the four archmages (possibly with Nak'Sora's quidance) and taking it with them to the distant shores of Mediterra.
//OOC: Phew, that was a lot... Once again, my apologises for such an enormous post. There were still many events between that time and the flight of the Ashborn, such as the creation of Praecantaria's barrier. And here was my "plan" - the Life Wardens and Deathlords parted ways, for obvious reasons, and the Wardens settled in today's Doria Prime with the book. Then they researched technology different from magic and went mad, like Sandromin explained earlier. A small group of them, however, travelled to a northern island off the coast of Mediterra. And, if Vyzion is not against it, I'm thinking that the Logipriests are direct descendants of the Life Wardens. //End of OOC\\

Your aura allows you to manipulate magic. Praecentaria is filled to the brim with magic, and this affects all your auras. All of you are also part of a series of magical races, which further augments your magic capabilities. You are technically classified as Mir rather than Men. All Men races (dwarves, humans, and sandmen) typically have poor auras and aura control compared to Mir (elves and Praecentaria). Even further than that, I'd speculate all of the species in Praecentaria came out of the terrain (originally) rather than being birthed/breathed into the world by a higher power or two, hence your affinity for your local terrain.
It is quite well documented that a large star fell from the heavens to the far east; maybe that is what started your people? Anyways, enough speculation, for I have much to type.
I think I went over the first part very well. It's up to you what you adopt as your history; but I'd also like to mention that you're also genetically suited for magic. Also did I mention the star is metaphorical? Because everything in history can be metaphorical.

And, actually, I like your latest explanation, Sandromin, so I guess we can stay at that. The Sandmen History of the World (94% Metaphor, 6% Truth):
In the beginning, there was One. One was good, and He saw all, He knew all, and He created all. One saw there was nothing. Thus, He decided to make Form. Form was black, but One clothed him in light. He loved Form, in all its beauty. But Form had no gifts, so One created the Gifts. He gave Form three gifts: Thought, Spirit, and Body.
Form then knew as well. She loved One back, and it was all good. Soon, One conceived a child with Form; this child was the Heavens. Heavens was black, but His parents loved Him, and they bore gifts for him: the stars to clothe him and the space to give him shape. Soon, Heavens found himself with no other, and asked for one he could share with. Thus, One created Dust.
Dust was beautiful; She was the pride of all in those times and She was the apple of Heaven's Eyes. But alas these times would not last, for Form bore another child, and this was Emptiness. Emptiness was cruel and was lost upon His wicked birth. One saw Emptiness and attempted to reconcile Him, but to no avail. Emptiness shunned the love of One, and One was grieved. And as such, One went into mourning away from his family.
Soon, Emptiness saw Dust. He lusted for Her and wanted to take Her as His wife. Heavens saw the wickedness of Emptiness' eyes and soon came to stop him. Emptiness crafted the first weapon out of hate and stabbed Heavens. Heavens fell and wept at his brother's hate; Heaven's blood soon spilled and created the nebulae and his tears made fell and froze next to Dust, forming the moons we see today. But alas, Heavens was not through. He arose out of love to protect Dust, and used this as his weapon against Emptiness. Emptiness was soon slain, but his body was scattered asunder, creating Corruptions in the universe.
After this, Heavens fell into a deep slumber, succumbing to his wounds. Dust then changed her name in mourning to Dustia. It was then She forged the First with the remains of Heavens' love. They were the Elder Gods; among them were Freedom, Time, Love, Mercy, Faith, Justice, Wisdom, and... Fate. After these beings were created, Dustia soon realized she was dying from the combined weights of grief and birth; and with Her last breath, She gave her dying wish to her children: with your power, take my body and give Life to the lands of my corpse.
And with that she died. Her children wept, and with Her body they created the first world, ensconced in the loving embrace of Heavens. The First began creating, and Wisdom saw that he could make beings anew, with help from Form. And thus, Wisdom made the Second. They were the powers: Magic, Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Void, and Life, and others such as War, Peace, and Invention. After this, the others of the First found they could make more, and Time made age and youth. Mercy gave everything compassion to one another so they could live together. Justice set the laws so none may follow in Emptiness' err. Wisdom gave all knowledge and the gift to use it. Freedom gave them all choices, so life may not be dreary. Faith gave them belief in what they did not know. Love gave them the greatest gift: the gift to feel and have joy in one another; Love gave them love. Fate combined all these and gave them an end, that they may strive for goals.
But Corruptions saw all this good happening, and despised it. He was jealous and began mimicking them; He created the Sins. Greed, Jealousy, Wrath, Lust, Pride, Sloth, Envy, and Hate. He told them to go among the First to destroy them. But the First knew, and prepared for this. They crafted tools to stop the Sins; they made armor and weapons with Form and the Second helped them craft these tools. Soon, there was war. The First fought the Sins, and the ichor rained onto Dustia as both sides took casualties. But after many years, the First won and slaughtered all the Sins and forced Corruption into the far reaches of Heaven's cloak.
Corruption was smart, however, and sent a taint among the First. The taint poisoned the mind of Fate, but none knew at the time. Even Fate herself proceeded normally. While she was slowly being twisted, the Second crafted the lands of Dustia. It was then that Life made new beings: Men. They were beings that made Life proud, and the First came to give gifts to his creation. Soon the others grew jealous, and created beings of their own. They brought a star from the Form of Heavens, and wrought it upon the lands. This land is now known as Praecentaria.
The people that sprung up from Praecentaria were well tuned with their creators, especially Magic, and were known as Mir. But Life cared not, for He was enthralled in his own creation, the Men of Mediterra, as the others were with their creation. It was at this time that the First began to see the taint in Fate. She began wreaking havoc in her own twisted sense upon the Men and Mir. It was then that the others commanded that Fate get a grasp on herself. But the taint was strong and she fought back. She polluted the lands and followed suit in the ways of Emptiness.
It was soon that Fate proved to powerful for Her brethren, and the others went into hiding among Heaven's cloak. And thus, she had her ways with the Men and Mir of Dustia. She began the terrible reign of destruction that has plagued us for so long, and none dared to stand up to Her. But Love could not bear what His wife, Fate, was doing, and stood up to Her. Fate would not listen, and stabbed Love. Love fell, and Fate realized what she had done too late. It was then that Fate sought to fill this void in Her heart; there was none though. It was all merely lust.
But Freedom saw his brother die, and rallied the other Firsts to begin a crusade against Fate. It was now that they fought, but one by one they fell until only Freedom remained. Freedom then saw that even He could not stop her; he must seek help from the very creation that Fate had suppressed... |

Ner'Zul Nexhawk wrote://OOC: Could you direct me at the original post about the Dark Arcanum? Which page was it on?
And I might try to incorporate it... Something like this - during the endless wars, a Life Warden was corrupted by Nak'Sora (Fate) and learned to reanimate the dead and grasp their souls, hence turning into a first Deathlord (or AN)? On the other hand, if I understand correctly, Fate controls Xavier through the book, right? So she has to be somehow involved directly with the book's creation, hasn't she? I find this not tying in all too well, but it might be just me. //End of OOC\\
OOC: Fate is indeed directly tied to its creation. She did not make it, but she set the motions of the first AN. What better way to both control AND destroy the mortals of Dustia. Her goal is to properly follow her given task. Her task is to prevent mortals from getting to a certain point... When they grow close, she destroys them.(all will be revealed) @ Sandromin: My plot bombs come in short bursts. That dream from before being the first. I like the 94% metaphorical thing.

And thus, Fate sought to fight back. She foresaw it all, and began preparing resistance to stop Freedom in his task. She took her taint and formed a black shroud. She found the most wicked man in all of the lands and gave him this shroud. Because of this, he found himself knowing much of magic and thus he became the Archnecromancer. As a gift to him and as a mockery to Freedom, Fate gave him the destiny to never die and the gift of evil wisdom.
This gift became the Dark Arcanum and was continually formed throughout the years. It was with this that the Archnecromancer enslaved many races, including goblins, the dead, and the fallen. Then, it found several kings and lured them with the temptation of more power. It then slaughtered them all, throwing the land into havoc. The Archnecromancer then took the dead kings and created evil hunters to gather the souls and bring them to the Dark Arcanum to fuel its needs.
Freedom saw all this and was appalled. Thus, he sought out his own champion, the First Emperor. He united all the lands and purged the Archnecromancer and its evil forces from Mediterra. The Emperor was known as Augustum. It was through Augustum that Freedom began winning the war. But alas, all things must come to an end, and Augustum refused to accept immortality, for he feared corruption and living forever as a champion of evil. Freedom accepted this fact and enchanted his body, that none may resurrect it and use it for evil.
Soon, Freedom found the Empire was thriving, but Fate would not allow this. She took advantage of the weakening lineage and told the Archnecromancer to invade Mediterra from the Badlands. Freedom saw the war and decided he must intervene. He created multiple champions to fight it back; these champions fought and beat it back into the Badlands, thus ending its looming thread.
At this time, the Men of what is now Lavania were scourged by Fate as an example. But one clan survived and made it to the deserts; these people became the sandmen. In the war, the sandmen, led by Arteum, fought valiantly against the Archnecromancer. In the north, the shortmen, fathers of the dwarves, crafted many great weapons to fight the Archnecromancer that could permanently defeat his undead armies. The Barbars from the southwest lent many people to fight in the wars, and these Barbarians fought viciously. To the north, Logipriests gave their healing power to the many wounded in the war.
The Doric people created new devices to fight the Archnecromancer, but they were found to be of great threat. Fate sealed their doom, and when the war was lost, She gave them the Book of Evil, thus polluting their minds, killing them off. And one man from early Venezzia volunteered his life and family to populate the Badlands in order to provide warning against the Archnecromancer. These people became Diyadians. It was ultimately these combined efforts that stopped the Archnecromancer.
But Fate had her resolve. She sought to kill these people that the First had so loved. She brought her twisted and wicked ways among the people, and since, her plans have been the ruin of many a nation. It was her slow and eventual corruption that has led to the events that transpire today.
Then, Heavens groaned to His father, One. One heard these cries of pain, and He knew the events that had transpired. He arose from mourning, cursed Fate, and He created the Ultimatum: The Great Prophecy.
In Days of Old, before wickedness was spread by the hate of Emptiness, we lay in peace. But through the Corruption he has spread, I must intervene: A day shall arrive when all digress, And you wicked people shall fall, into the maw of the Unclean.
You shall suffer wrath unlike which has ever been told, Fate, YOUR fate has been sealed, in which you are doomed, It has been said since the days of old, In which all evil will be removed.
And thus, a band of heroes will arise, They will seek a mission to stop you: Men and Mir, of all kinds, Will seek your doom through and through.
One of theirs may die, But will arise anew, And this is the moment when you shall cling to life. At that point, however, your fate is sealed and your life doomed.
Hold fast, for it is coming. You cannot deny my words, for I speak the truth in loving. And lo, all will behold my truth, and your death. They will see and take heed of your last breath.
It is written in the skies themselves as proof. What shall transpire, all wonder, even Freedom and Fate themselves. But one thing is certain: The rise of Men and Mir is nigh. |
