OOC Apologies folks, I was kept away from the forums by unforseen circumstances. Just reference Brutus, we didn't leave the council buildings, I just sat down in the next room. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Alixenus sighed, poured himself a glass of Port then handed the bottle to Brutus. As the great men of the world debated the most critical issues of the day, a soldier-turned-politician sat and answered the questions of a Giant. He told Brutus that he just woke up where he fell and saw that only the Logipriests and Brutus were missing after the machines attacked. He assumed that they had both been taken by the machines and tried to follow their tracks for the rest of the day. Come nightfall, he called off the chase and headed back to the city. He said that that night, he walked to a Tavern and drank himself under the table out of Guilt for not being able to find Brutus, and for fear of all the bad fortune that had hit Venezzia.
Then he explained to Brutus how the Water cannons worked. They were built into the city walls and sewer systems. Man and Horse power fill the tanks whilst Tidal flows are channeled to up the pressure inside the chamber. One way valves stopped the water going backwards between waves. When the pressure was high enough, the water forced open the valve in the cannon's barrel and fired at the target. Smaller ones fired Ballista bolts or Rocks. Then he let Brutus in on a little secret: Venezzia had built portable versions of the Guns. Ones that could be used on Land.
Meanwhile, a Scribe caught up with Sandromin in the streets and asked him whether he had forgotten the Diyadian's request to stay in the Hall after the talks ended or he had chosen not to honour their request? |

And with that, Sandromin began on a brisk pace to meet the Diyadians... |

"Brutus tell latter." And with that he and Conyr went for a walk. The unlikely pair strolled through the city, and to Brutus' astonishment no one seemed to care that a giant was trudging around with a green child.the two walked in silence, or Brutus walked while Conyr sat on his shoulder's. Brutus was happy, ecstatic more like it. He had found Alixenus, stopped a bar fight and found several of the logipriest. Speaking of. "Conyr" the giant started. "Vyzion, Conyr's father?"

Conyr smiled.
"When logipriests make babies they do it in what my friends call 'giant orgies'. I'm not sure what it means but it all new children are cared for by the whole community. I think it's quite fun; we're never bound to a few parents, or solely responsible for younger siblings. A giant family, that's what we used to have. As giant as you, I dare say."
Conyr didn't continue, and lapsed into silence. Children below we're looking up at him, some scared, some afraid, some jealous.
Conyr knew the others had left him, but why? No matter. He had Brutus.
That was another thing not having parents instilled, Conyr realised. Independence. Freedom.

------OOC------
Events have been unfolding quickly, my friends. Very quickly. So quickly that personally, I'm feeling a little burnt out.
We need a break. Not a complete break, but a break in this pace.
As Galricks calendar or technology revealed, there is still a century or two until the supernova. The convention between nations is still running, near finish now though. I believe Thanatos' return and epic speech ( only a guess, don't let my words guide anything) will signal the end of the meeting. Whatever Thanatos says will undoubtedly be important. Perhaps he will relate it to the supernova impending, or another disaster that is imminent. Whatever the cause, we need a lapse. A time lapse. We've almost been writing blow by blow accounts of the action from 5-6 different perspectives, and that's too much to sustain for long.
I was thinking we should speed up time 100 years. A whole century. This is very, very radical. All characters will be old, most likely dead, unless they possess some unnaturally long life span; I'm thinking Brutus.
If everyone agrees to this, we must start wrapping things up, tying loose ends, making heirs, so that nations are still flourishing. And while we're fast forwarding, we can build on the history of our nations, if we want. If not, just short accounts of what is happening to your nation as time progresses through that century will do. I you want to do both, fine by me.
Another option though, if this huge time lapse doesn't sound good, is to start some fighting. Battle scenes are awesome, and wars are huge. Sieges last months. It's a filler, basically.
I'll leave it up to you guys to decide.
We can enact a time lapse. We can start a huge war. ( I have an idea of how to do this without any nations being destroyed or humiliated, if you guys decide to select this option.) Or we can progress as we are.
But I think a change of pace is necessary.
Of course, feel free to add suggestions as to what you believe we can do next. Our discussions out of character are as vital as those between our characters.

OOC Personally Vyzion I don't feel burnt out, but that's probably due to the fact that you've been writing far more than me. To be honest, our pace has been a little off since the very start, especially with that incident with the PAI. A time lapse is a very radical suggestion indeed as I imagine some people will have grown quite attached to their respective characters and may be quite reticent to start another. I think that there is a very real chance that the conference will continue for another two days in character time, assuming Thanatos doesn't intercede with an epic speech. Alternatively, we could use the deus-ex-machina solution of Fate accelerating the Sun's decay, but that wouldn't provide a break.
I think a total break may actually work. It will give everyone time to take stock of their characters, what they've done and said, where they want to take the character from their and think up new plot points. If we did do this, would everyone be happy holding off till say, March or mid-March? |

I agree with Vyzion partially. However, his suggestions are a little too far off. I'm a little burnt out to write a war scene or skip 100 years. [I'd like to note Sandmen have a lifespan roughly 4x that of a human due to decreased metabolism due to decreased food; they're like turtles sometimes... lol]
However, I don't think halting things would be good due to forum locking and stuff. So I suggest we just slow the pace by including a filler arc. As soon as the conference is done, we slow the pace down with the introduction of the new Tier 3 Tech to all the nations, thereby giving us time to update our tech and time to get out of a ditch.
Any other suggestions? |

We'll just have a filler Arc. I think that would be best. Just technological updates with the sometimes random battle or something or other.

[OOC] I personally, as well, am not tired from all this writing. In fact, this thread is the only thing keeping with Dust and the Forums, simply because it is so enjoyable. But I understand if some are tired. I mean, read the first few pages, the read the last couple. All I can this has evolved immensely. Our writing skills have as well.
Filler is good to me. It will take a while for the sun to supernova, anyhow. Besides, Fate seems like the character who likes to watch others squirm.
A war could be good. I could have Xavier launch an attack on Thanatos after he reveals himself. He hates him, after all.
A time lapse could be a bit strange, simply because I doubt that nothing major would happen in Dustia in a century. It's just too... turbulent.
But, I will go with filler. It will work out more in the long run.[/OOC]

Brutus was content, he had Conyr and alixenus back and was happy. But he still longed for his home, even if it was just full of ruins and skeletons, memories were good enough for him.
Mean while, away from Venezzia, an old nation stood, a dead city full of the bodies of the dead, stood silent, ruins of a great nation, now a twisted picture of it's old self. Many had died on the day the nation fell, but not all. Many were still defiant, the survivors old men and women now were the few left (aside from their near immortal giant protectors) from the day of shards, as they called it. Their children had grown in this place, believing that one day the great city would return to its former glory...it was just but a dream. But they waited, they were hopeful of their protector abroad, the one who had saved so many, who had lost so much, the one named Brutus. His brother Draven, a giant of only seven and one half foot stood vigilant for his brother, waiting each day for when his kin returned. "Draven, sir!" It was one of the grand children survivors, his name was Redyk, a human maybe twenty and one years, he was dressed in his battle shirt. "Feral's have been spotted east! They have a protector with them!" Draven shook his head, another of his kin, tainted by the dark one, the necromancer. " I'll be there with the other's in a few moment's, call Endirk." Draven needed his other brother, his blood- brother. He went to his tent and grabbed his sword, he wasn't as strong other protectors, but he was smart, and quick. And knew how to fight anything bigger than he was. Draven sighed, "Brutus hurry, we need you back here."the lonesome half-giant said to himself. He missed his brother, his wife and his nephew and niece. It was at this moment Dravens younger brother Endrik, a hulking giant of nearly eighteen feet ducked into the small tent. "Endrik...fight?" The words were slow, and forced. He was getting worse, it would be soon that Endrik's very ability to speak would be gone. Draven patted his brother on his massive shoulder. He saw the curiosity in his brothers eye's, which were the only thing of his face that showed under the helm adorned with the antlers of a moose. The same was said about Draven, only his eyes shown, but his horns were that of a goat. "Bro...ther?" Draven looked up to his younger sibling. "Endrik...fight?" Draven felt the pain his voice. "Yes, Endrik. We fight." "Bru...tus...home?" This was a hopeful question, Endrik missed his oldest brother, as did Draven. "Not yet, he's still looking for Ereka, he'll come back for us. I know it." Such an old lie, but he couldn't crush the hope in his brother. Endrik was content with the lie. And that's all Draven needed. "Let's go, they need us now." Endrik nodded and walked out. Draven began to walk but looked back at a picture, one that had been painted for the brothers, before everything fell. They were all smiling, Endrik had been seventeen then, and Draven was 20. Brutus 24 by then, each of them had been laughing that day. They were celebrating Brutus' marriage. Draven smiled under his helm. "Come home soon brother. We're waiting." And with that Draven was out the tent running with his brother for the feral's. |

Many things that are not of any importance of whatsoever. Except one."
As he said that, he slyly stepped into the room, with the Ambassador behind him.
The room was phenomenal. Many large sofas, made from what seemed to be the most fine of silk, were littered everywhere. The pillows on them, plush. The curtains, a pure crimson, symbolizing the blood of Venezzian enemies. White pearls were perfectly aligned together on, well, everything. From the aforementioned sofas and curtains, to the tables, and even chairs! There were shields and swords on the walls, all pure and glistening gold. It 'twas a very, very, lavish place.
"An alliance! How beneficial would that be, eh? To have the same technology as they! Everyone, as intelligent as the greatest scientists! Everyone, and strong as an athlete! With everyone like the Ambassador here, this world will be a much, much more prosperous place!"
He chuckled a bit. The magic book was in his arms.
"Surly you do not want to talk about this? Fantasize how life would be like? A perfect world? No? Well, even if you do not, we have other things to talk about."
It's working. He can not kick me out now. It would be most rude of him, hehe.
"Like your administration! Tell me, how is it being the Supreme Leader, eh?"

Furthermore, there are quite a few matters to discuss. It seems Fate will be stoking the flames even more... her grand plan will unfold before our very eyes."

Vyzion, as for your tree question I'm not sure what best suits Venezzia. My first thought was an Oak for the shipbuilding but that tree is decidedly English. Next thought was the Olive, but that thing's really quite weedy. Perhaps a Cypress tree, but as to why, I have no clue. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
Panic flashed across Alixenus' face as Sandromin began speaking. He tried to subtly indicate to the Sandman to briefly disappear. Meanwhile he was still holding a conversation with Xavier. "Grand Liberator, perhaps you didn't hear whilst you were reading that hefty tome, but a technology sharing agreement was already discussed. Around noon I think it was. If the proposal goes through everyone will be sharing their knowledge: you won't need a private alliance for that."
Xavier looked somewhat vexed at this information, but then the collective's ambassador began replaying the conversation in question, which startled all present. Once he realised that the ambassador wasn't possessed or broken, Alixenus walked over to a small mahogany table to refill his Glass.
"Secondly Xavier, my title is Interim Administrator, emphasis on interim. I'm not seizing power nor changing Venezzia's government, I'm just changing who is in power. Politics is a game for the deceitful and greedy, it's on the open seas and city walls where I belong. Can you name even one trait that would make me suitable for running for Doge?" ____________________________________________________________________________________________
At the same time, hastily printed wanted posters were being nailed to the doors of Pubs, to street corners and Herald's posts throughout the city. A tipsy Venezzian butcher, upon exiting the free house turned stumbled across one and paused to read it.
"To the attentions of the people of the City. Wanted: The Green Witch. Responds to the name of Natyli Escaped this evening past from the custody of the City. Hath committed crimes against both the City and our Glorious Republic. May be in the company of other Green men. These are not to be harmed. She is to be brought to the Council complex alive for the reward of ONE TALENT's weight of GOLD"
OOC: In this case a Talent is equivalent to 57lbs. |
