Hm... pants... good... good... As for the aura for Nex: Auras are a natural trait, and are hugely affected by surroundings (and genetics as well), but is just as well determined by personal characteristics, such as willpower and strength of mind. Fixed.

It was all leading up to an adventure it seemed; everything was reaching a new milestone, and Alihes was going to be a part of it.
OOC: Sorry about having to move your actions, but I had to connect these storylines in preparation for the Great Voyage.

Now, Sandromin, I'm not sure if you do actually 'exile' the people of your nation, so if that's not the case then I'll alter that portion of my backstory for Hakyi a little.
I'd like you to, well, answer Conyr's question using this exiled sandman, Hakyi, I've created; I'm not sure how he should behave. It's quite a big favour, and if you don't wish to design a whole new character, I'm happy to do so, and you can iron out any discrepencies, since this character will be a sandman. If you do create him, I would like to take control of him. I was planning a little "Fellowship" of my own, in fact. Something along the lines of the Edge Chronicles, of Captain Twig and his fellow adventurers. You see, it was my intention to allow Conyr to end up having explored all the lands, alone, and to grow as a character as he did so. And by alone, I meant not interacting with you guys in this thread. I wanted him to acquire his own crew, become a pirate (was still debating this), go on some swashbuckling adventures, etc.
This voyage of yours, however, may work in my favour. So if you would do the honours of introducing my Conyr to Hakyi, I'd be eternally grateful.

//OOC: With pleasure. Since the Ashborn came to this part of the world only very recently, their new capital, Spodium, will not impress with exquisite grandeur. Despite this, it still has a considerable size.
In the center of the city you have the Great Hall, where Nexhawk spends his days ruling over Ardorium. Its appearance resembles a volcano: it is a large cone-shaped building seemingly carved from a mountain. Intricate arches and columns frame the Hall and look like flowing streams of fire. The building itself is pierced in endless burning cracks, but they form elegant shapes and patterns now.
Around the Great Hall and within the city boundaries is where citizens' houses are located. Generally, they resemble the Great Hall in shape, but are smaller and have a simpler design.
On Spodium's outskirts, you will find cendren plantations (as you remember, cendren is the symbol tree for Ashborn that came from Praecantaria). Right next to it, there are phoenix stables, where several Ashborn tend to both mature phoenixes and hatchlings. The birds encase themselves in their own egg when they fall asleep.
Sorry for a long description, but I hope you will find this useful when appearing in Spodium, Xavier. The rest I leave to your writing!

Okay, here's my backstory for him:
'Twas a long time since Hakyi had been in contact with his people. In fact, it had been nearly a decade. He was an exile, a hermit who lived as a nomad.
Hakyi was banned from Arteum after taking the downfall for his brother, a young man going through a rebellious stage of life, leader of the Synta Rebel faction. In fact, his brother set fire to the main wall, and caused discord; the flames are still remembered as the scourge of hundreds of innocent beings.
Riding on the dunes was all that Hakyi had left; his brother left the lands after realizing what he had done, and Hakyi's family was long dead. Hakyi found pleasure in only one thing these days, and as the sun beat down upon his back, he was riding as a professional would do in the races back in Arteum. It was while riding one day that he stumbled upon a man.
But this man was not ordinary; no, he was a logipriest. Hakyi was a merchant once, and saw many people from distant lands. As he looked upon the person, he found that the logipriest had suffered a blow to the head from a kalter seed. There was not many people who survived this, but the man was still breathing and the wound was repairing itself before Hakyi's eyes.
As such, Hakyi resolved himself to take the man back to Arteum, where he would receive proper care; it was not as if he could care for the priest himself. And thus, Hakyi began the several hour journey back to his homeland. He was coming home.
Hours later, he found himself at the front gate with the man on his shoulder. Hakyi walked into the city, inquiring about current events along the way. He heard of the Guild of Thought and reckoned it would be the best place to leave him in their care. As such, he found the grand building, constructed of great marble pillars, imported from the finest Lucian mines.
Much had changed in the city, and he was glad to be back. And carrying the logipriest brought back memories...
~~~~~ Twenty years ago. Hakyi was an ordinary scout in the Arteum legion. It was as a soldier that he was in the jungles of the north, on a cartography mission. It was here where he made first contact with the logipriests. And it was here where he slaughtered an entire village with his brute force, cunning, and rabbits. Tons and tons of rabbits.
The truth was, he was young, and he took his angst out on the logipriests. He hated them, despised their peaceful ways. So he killed the first village he found after a week of living among them. All of them; women, children, and even their pets. ~~~~~
After looking on the past, he found himself regretting his past decisions. He thought he was redeeming himself here and now. He looked back and saw all the faces he killed; he was saddened and sought to make amends. It was here where he tried washing away his past sins...
OOC: How's that? I'll leave the ending open to you. However, I will start off the introduction. |
And with that, Hakyi walked in. He was glad, glad to see that Conyr was still alive. Glad to know that he saved one life, that he had wiped some of his past clean. But it was not enough; he was in his forties, yet still had not wiped everything clean. No, there was much more to do. And he sought a way to do it. (OOC: HINT HINT EXPEDITION BUDDY HINT HINT PRO ARCHER HINT HINT)
"Hello, how are you doing? It seems you received a bad wound to the head. In fact, nobody could've survived that but you."
Conyr just stared blankly at the ethereal being.
"Hm, not quite right yet either. Well, no matter, I shall stay until I am no longer needed to help you heal."
Alihes spoke up.
"Who are you?" he began.
"Ah, I am the man who brought this young logipriest to heal here. He seemed nearly dead, and indeed might have died had I not intervened."
"Well, although that is true, I mean you personally. I've seen your face somewhere before..."
And Hakyi realized he was making the connections to the exile.
"Erm, I doubt you have. I hail from a village far away and have in fact never been to the capital."
Alihes had his doubts, but decided not to prod any further for this man had done a great courtesy. He decided not to ask further out of respect for the man.
"Well." Conyr spoke up. All eyes turned to him.
"I thank you, um... er-"
"Hakyi."
"Right. Hakyi. Thank you for bringing me here. I probably wouldn't be alive if you had not found me."
Conyr turned back to Jern and Alihes.
"I think, for now, I will trust you, whatever you are."
Jern looked affronted. "Just the embodiment of all logipriests, is all."
"Yes, but how do I know?" Conyr snapped impatiently.
"Listen, I am as lost as you, Conyr." Alihes intervened. "In fact, I don't know why I should trust this spirit coin either. It simply guided me here. So the choice is yours. Come with us, or go your own way."
Conyr was silent for a moment. He looked at Hakyi, and noticed the man's pupils were elongated like a cat's, and tinged yellow like a hawk's. For some reason, it reminded him of the jungle pigs in his jungle home.
"Alright." Conyr pronounced each word slowly, carefully. "I will go with you, and embark on this voyage. However, I'd like to make a request. If it is fine with Hakyi, I would like him to come with us."
Hakyi's magnificent eyes glazed over; his face became unreadable. Conyr thought he saw anger and guilt intermingled in them. A strange combination. Then, Hakyi nodded. Conyr smiled, pleased.
"Well, that settles it." He turned to the spirit and Alihes. "What's the plan?" |
Stoccessco enthusiastically embraced the offer of enchanted weaponry. Either they would provide a unique edge to his sailors during boarding actions, or perhaps the enchantment could be studied or reverse engineered in some way by the most scholarly in the Republic. A second rowboat delivered a small chest of arms with a box of maps. Contained within were the favourite weapons of 19 most prominent naval officers and marine comanders in the fleet. Stocessco then drew his own weapon, a finely balanced and ornate Falchion, and added it to the collection.
"By all means, good sir Cenizar, begin your magicks" As the Ashborn worked, the Knight-commander looked towards the bow of the ship towards the setting sun. The removal of the colonists was ended and the fleet was gradually parting to make way the Ashborn. It appeared that this would be the beginning of a profitable relationship _____________________________________________________________________________________________ *The next morning in Venezzia*
Alixenus awoke in his bed to find last night's date wrapped fast around him. It took quite some time for him to extract himself from between her various limbs. Once he was free he grabbed some simple clothes from his drawers, dressed and quietly exited, pleased with himself that he took the time during formal occaisions to get to know the ladies of the court. As he rounded a corner he found Fate waiting for him again in the hallway. He jumped at the sight, but was once again nonchalant about her appearance.
"You have a thing about appearing here don't you? If you're here about the Logipriests I can tell you that they have removed themselves. I have not seen nor heard any of them for quite some time"
That is not why I am here. Sandromin and Thanatos intend to kill me and the other Gods.
"And why would that concern me? I checked with the Priests and Oracles, you are not of Venezzia's Gods, which, judging from the fact that even you need to ask for my help, are immeasurably more powerful than you."
Fate did not take kindly to her powers being questioned. Silence you impudent whelp! Those mere children do not have a fraction of the power to challenge me. I could destroy them with a single thought! Not that it would matter, they're so quiet and small it's like they don't exist anyway.
"If that is true, then clearly destiny has me marked for something important, or you would not deign to speak with me. But for all I know you may be trying to divert me from my true path"
I choose your path. I, and no one else. You intend to take part in this Great Voyage. Do so, and ensure that Sandromin does not return.
Alixenus began to lose interest in this spirit, even though she could send him into an eternity of agony. Yesterday he had literally laughed in the face of, and drawn a sword against, death. What more could he possibly fear? He moved to walk past her. "Then I'm to hope that you eliminate Thanatos before he discovers my treachery? This could all be a plot to get me killed, or to weaken my Gods, or destroy us all outright. Just why should I listen to you?"
Because if you do, your precious Republic will become the most powerful nation in this world.
Alixenus stopped dead in his tracks. Salvation for his realm at last. Not at the hands of charity from some distant relation or race of machines, but divine providence itself! However his rational and somewhat cynical mind pointed out to him exactly what he had just said to her. She might have been playing on his hopes and fears. She could be lying to him. She had probably already said that to every other ruler in this world. Despite this, he couldn't just give the offer a flat no.
She smiled, she knew she had him. "I will, consider your offer. Now if you will excuse me, we mortals have a busy day ahead"
I knew you Venezzians would not squander the gift of reason.
"My Gods gave me that, not you." Fate only did so much as glare at him. But that was all it took for her to throw him against the wall with great force.
Remember your place Then she was gone. Alixenus struggled to his feet, coughing and spluttering. He checked himself for broken bones.
"Agh, ahh well that Rib always cracks." Without further ado he struggled away to take breakfast and prepare for the day's work.
After finishing the enchantment process, the Ashborn crew handed twenty weapons back to the Venezzians. The swords were ablaze, and deadly fire danced around their edges. However, their owners felt only confident warmth emanating from the blades, and that warmth gave them bravery and made them feel invincible against any enemy.
Meanwhile, Cenizar went to Stocessco with a word of farewell. "I thank you greatly, sir Stocessco. These maps will aid us greatly in our further explanation of Mediterra and her shores. Before we depart, and out ship lands next to this island, I would like to ask you to take this." Out of his pouch, he took a miniature elongated sphere, which looked very much like an artificial egg. "Give this to your leader. Upon opening this egg, a phoenix hatchling will heed the call and arrive to the opener. I place my greatest hopes that your ruler, Alixenus, will use this possibility to start regular communications between our two nations."
Cenizar turned around and looked at his crew. Every single Ashborn was now ready to sail. Cenizar smiled and bowed his head before Stossesco. "Now, I must bid you farewell. I hope this meeting will set foundations for a friendly relationship between the Venezzian Republic and Ardorium. Please know that my crew will be eternally grateful for your understanding and allowing us to peacefully continue our voyage."
As the Ashborn and Venezzians exchanged wishes of good journey, the latter exited the Pathburner and crosses the wooden bridges to their ships. Afterwards, the Venezzian armada slowly turned around and sailed toward the distant city of Venezzia, allowing the Pathburner to continue on its course. Cenizar gazed at the Ashborn on his ship and rubbed his hands. "Set sail!" he exclaimed, grinning. "We have an island to explore." |
When the morning arose the giant went about finally moving. Brutus turned slowly, today was the day, or he hoped it was the day of the expedition. He walked to the chamber Alixenus would use for his morning meal. Brutus had arrived before his friend. So like in the night he waited. When he saw Alixenus stumble in, a look of worry crossed the giants eyes. "Alixenus, alright? Need help?" |
Okay, so I'll break down the events:
1) Sandromin talked to Thanatos at 12:00 Midnight 2) Brutus 'slept' till 6:00 AM 3) Alixenus slept until 5:00, woke up due to Fate's interference, bla bla, and met Brutus at 6:00 4) Sandromin joined Thanatos at 7:00 after a short sleep 5) 8:00- They all are converging, and that's the time we're at.
You can post anything that doesn't pertain to those events at those times. (Basically, 9:00 is when we're slated to go to Diyad and 12:00 is when we make it back.) |
OOC: Well prepare for interrupt-ception because Diyad has floating cities, meaning we probably have sufficient aerial defense. You'll have to converse with other Diyadian officials first.
Thanatos spent his night disappointed. He had missed the the falling of the ehrom blossoms. He had hoped to make it to Diyad by midnight, but no matter. Instead of staying in his lovely quarters provided by Alixenus, he sat atop the roof looking up at the full moon. The moon was so large it encompassed much of the night sky. The stars and aurora complimented her ivory beauty. But Thanatos was troubled for other reasons. Something was amiss in his head. There were memories there, he just couldn't reach them. Actually more like, he couldn't comprehend them. Only small fragments appeared in his head. He did not know what they meant. This information was important. He knew that a storm was coming. Everyone he met was important, he just had to steer them in the right direction. He thought about his friends, his kin. Brothers. He had a brother once. But he was so impatient, and he remains so. Vektor, so smart, so hyperactive, always thinking. Achyr, the most humble man he'd known. Halvedes, so set in his ways. Brutus, well what's not to like? Sandromin, smart, capable, maybe a little too eager. Xavier was strong, he HAD to overcome his demons. And then there was Alixenus. Thanatos admired him the most. He was clever, brave and foolish. All the key traits of a true hero. And Thanatos held that in high regard. But sleep was fast approaching. His eyes shut tightly. His dreams were not the same. Now instead of dreaming, he floated within his dark mind. Each time reliving a memory, only to forget upon awakening. It was rare for him to hold on to the clarity of them.
A shadowy figure sits on a web-like throne. Floating endlessly through space, unaffected by the lack of gravity. His armor, mostly cloth and leather, the latter being black and the former a dark and faded red-violet color. His mask completely covering his head. A dark, shiny metal, eerie and desolate. Only pink glowing eyes shines throughout. Around him little ethereal ball-like things danced and floated. Souls. They danced around him like loving children. He spoke to each with the same compassion, there were billions of them. A young ethereal man appears in the distant space. He runs toward the figure with a smile on his face. His shiny white cloak, brown hair, and gold eyes glistening in the starlight. Behind him a little girl follows. Upon seeing the shadow, she quickly hides behind the man's cloak. The man pats his shoulder.
"Hard at work I see? Hahaha!" The figure looks back."Of course dear friend. Not as much as you! You pass constantly. People both love and hate you." The man smiles more widely. "Oh Mr. Reaper, you are even more definite, people have always feared and despised you. Yet they are quick to call upon you to take their enemies. Those who are evil seek to undo you, and those who adore you lie in an asylum! Time may be obscure, but Death is unbearable." The two share a hearty laugh. The shadow notices the girl behind Time. She would appear to be 5 years old maybe, but she had lived for 5 centuries. The shadow says with a chuckle "Little one? I know you don't fear me. Out with you." She laughs and runs to his side. " Of course not Mr. Reaper. You are the greatest. When I am older, I'll make sure people accept you! They'll say, Death came because of her, so we should not weep." The shadow laughs again and pats her head. Time looks at the shadow. "She looks up to you like a guardian. I believe she'll be just as great as the one before her." The shadow replies, "She will serve you well. Now run along little one, back to the Spire." With an okay she runs off in the distance, the space opens up, revealing a tall endless spire. Time runs after the girl, giving the shadow one last goodbye. As they reach the Spire, space closes up around them, hiding them from sight. The shadow says one last thing to himself. " She shows much promise, eternity never looked brighter. The realm of Dustia will rest easy, when Fate is on their side..." |
Thanatos wakes right before the sunrise in a cold sweat. He gasps for air and almost stumbles off of the roof. He claws at his scalp as if he's trying to remove a parasite. "What was that, what happened? What did it mean damn it?!?! All I can remember is... is... the stars." He sighs and gives up. Deciding to wait at his airship for his passengers to arrive. At the appointed time they take off. After they have reached a good enough distance from the ground, and the ship is steady, he guides everyone to the meeting room. Everyone takes their seats at the large round table except for him. He slams his hands on the table and smile.
"Well if you have questions, now would be the very best time to ask away!" |
Just as Thanatos started speaking to his companions, a thundering disembodied voice boomed through the ship, causing all passengers to jump in their seats.
"Excuse me for the interruption, fellow travelers! My name is Ignatus, and I am the captain of the ship you will be passing several minutes later. While it is understandable that your matters may be important, I would urge you to land your vehicle on the water next to our ship, the Embershard. There are several issues of utmost importance we need to discuss."
Astonished airship passengers rushed to the windows and exits and looked outside, searching for the source of the vociferous speech. What they saw was a moderate-size ship floating in the distance. It was pitch black, and its flags bore the symbol of three flames on the dark background. Sandromin, upon sticking his head out of the airship, saw several cloaked men watching his vehicle. His gaze fell upon the one who stood in the middle of the Embershard with his bare arms crossed, and Sandromin noticed with difficulty orange lines running along dark grey surface of his skin. Associations sprang in his mind. Fire. Ash. Wait a minute...
"Hold on!" he shouted against the wind to his companions and the airship crew members. "Those must be the Ashborn, mustn't they?" _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ignatus met Sandromin's gaze and nodded. And here is our gifted one.
//OOC: So I guess this is the time we decide on the origins of magic, lest much confusion and miscommunication will be caused during this conversation. Thanatos, Vyzion, and M'Kron, I believe we haven't heard from you on the matter yet. |
Awaken.
Xavier lifted himself off the hot, barren ground. He had never seen a land so, fruitless, and yet so alive, before. The land was of scorched crimson, but there were little wisps of strange flowers here and there. The flowers curled in on themselves, and were the same color as the ground. There were trees too, but they were indescribably beautiful. The sky, even, has taken a different aura. The sky was a dark, well, crimson, like everything else. Everything was crimson in these lands. Even the people wore crimson clothing.
On the topic of the people, they were more, open, to magic. One could see them light their stoves with fire that protruded from their hands, and you occasionally saw a parent discipline their child in that way.
What is this place? This place is like the heaven of hell.
But, Xavier could not wonder about such things. He had a mission to undertake. This mission gave him purpose. Made him sane. The book glowed and radiated magic from his hands. The magic pulsated from the book in different colors, ranging from red, green, purple, and even black. This was quite a spectacle to the country-folk, who watched Xavier as he confidently marched to the fiery palace in the distance.
[OOC]Nexhawk and possible Thanatos, you will be able to clearly sense my presence for a little while.[/OOC] |
Nexhawk experienced a jolt of senses passing through his body. He became overwhelmed with feelings right when the Dark Arcanum appeared within the borders of Spodium.
How could it possibly be...?
He rushed outside of the Grand Hall and saw a human - no, a dwarf! - steadily and confidently walking along the main street of the city. Nexhawk narrowed his eyes as he recognized the book that was the Dark Arcan, which the dwarf was carrying. Then his eyes widened at the astonishing sight of the book pulsating with primal, unharnessed magic. The dwarf himself, however, bore no signs of being attuned to magic in any way. Is this mortal really trying to use the book for his purposes?
Nexhawk rapidly paced toward the newcomer. Upon coming closer, however, he stopped dead in his tracks, for the dwarf's eyes were agleam with emerald hue. Nexhawk smirked at the realization and approached his guest. "Tell me, o mortal: for what purpose did Nak'Sora send you and the Dark Arcanum to me?"
The dwarf tilted his head to the side and glanced suspiciously at him. "I don't quite follow, for I have never met this Nak'Sora of yours."
Nexhawk laughed. "Oh, but you have. Nak'Sora is our name for one of the gods that rule over this world and many others. This name has many literal translations, such as the Hand of Guidance, the Keeper of Future, the Prophet of Time... But her most recent name," Nexhawk pressed his lips in sorrow, "is the Doomweaver. Here, in your language, though, she may be known simply as... Fate." |
He looked a the Fiery Lord, the one who spoke to everyone at the conference. He had an elderly look. A look that told you that he was more wise then anyone you could know.
Xavier looks down at his book.
"This is a good book, you know."
He brings it to his chest and thumps it with his hand. With every thump, the book radiates magic father and more furiously.
"I am sure you have heard of Thanatos, no? Thanatos is the one who calls himself 'Death'. He is coming to your land to proclaim his servitude to the one called 'Freedom'. This, my friend, will not do."
Xavier looks into the man's eyes.
"He will tell you about the evils of Fate, and how we must destroy her. I am here to warn you otherwise. Fate, as haughty as she is, must be protected and preserved."
Nexhawk looks at him, albeit curiously.
"Fate is the one who guides us on our path. She decides our future, and then makes sure it is carried out. She is the conductor of our carriage, which is life. Imagine if the conductor was killed. Who would drive the carriage, hmm? Certainly not us, we do not know how. And with this I ask you, please, join me to prevent Death from destroying Fate. It will be difficult, I assure you. Thanatos is powerful, and so too, will be Alixenus and Sandromin, if he is teach them. Oh, but it will be worth it, comrade, for it is better to have a world than none at all." |
OOC Sorry for being late again folks. I don't how I keep falling behind lately, but I'll try to rectify the situation. _________________________________________________________________________________
"I'm fine Brutus, I just fell down the stairs. Now, we have a busy day ahead. Help yourself to some smoked fish" Alixenus gestured to a pile of large cushions in the corner of the room, handmade in Aretum, so the merchant had said. They passed the meal in companionable silence, enjoying the rare commodity of peace as much as their meal. When he had had his fill of fruits, breads and poultry Alixenus turned to Brutus with a smile on his face and a glimmer in his eye.
"Today's the day Brutus. Today I can finally stop ruling the Republic and go back to doing what I do best. Soldering. I just have to sign some parchment back at the Palazzo then I'll be away on the Diydian's airship for a while. And...I have a suprise for you." He returned to his chambers briefly to dress properly before the two headed out. Brutus pretended not to notice the young woman departing through the side door as they walked out the front. It was a brief ride back to the Palazzo, or walk in Brutus case. He wasn't looking forward to another day spent doing nothing whilst his friend went on some grand adventure. Waiting patiently in the hallway for Alixenus to sign the parchment, he was in fact genuinely surprised when Alixenus called him in.
Inside yet another conference chamber, Brutus saw Alixenus with a few politicians and what looked like officers standing around a long Oakwood table. "Brutus, meet my replacement, Doge Stefana Carravagio the first. and these men-" Alixenus waved a hand toward the officers "-are General Lombardi, head of the Republic's Army and Baron-Admiral Ravena, head of the Navy." The two men bowed to Brutus.
"This is my surprise Brutus. As the new Supreme Commander of Venezzia's military, I have ordered these men to furnish you with everything you need to select and organise a relief force for your homeland. Take whatever ships and troops you see fit. Now if you excuse me, I have an airship to board" Alixenus walked briskly past his utterly stunned friend, quite pleased that throwing an Army at his feet had the desired affect.
*Later, aboard the airship* Alixenus was leaning as far as he deemed safe out of the side of the airship to take in the sight of Venezzia from the air. It was from up here that he could truly appreciate the scale of Charybdis's sister ship, the Scylla, still under construction in the Western docks. Though little more than wooden struts and beams that resembled a Whale skeleton at this point, the ship's main weapon, a monstrous water cannon that took up fully half the interior of the vessel, was already in place. He almost tumbled over the side when Ignatus projected his voice at them.
"I wish they'd stop doing that, haven't these people heard of messenger birds?" ___________________________________________________________________________________________ OOC: Feel free to flesh out the officers as required Brutus |
