a year and a half after posting this, it still seems that some of you haven't caught on. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2138801
Quote:As I read all the many threads about the farce of a Dust keynote(ed: 2014), I am detecting a common theme. Many of you seem to be feeling like "CCP, this was a horrible way to communicate this. All you needed to do was X. Please don't F_ up like that again!" I can only surmise that you have entered the New Eden universe via DUST514 and haven't really kept track of CCP in its past decade. (Why would you.)
Others have said this in their own replies to the various threads, but I haven't detected any change in the common understanding, so I thought I'd make a thread just to point it out specifically. This is the way CCP does things. Ridiculously. Stupidly. Handling PR like they're in a competition to see how many customers they can p__s off. If you didn't come from Eve:Online you might not realize this, but CCP has been as intuitive as a turtle for over a decade now.
Have you read anyone's comment who used stereotypical quotes of an abused spouse or such things? That's what this is like, but it isn't just from the past 2-3 years of Dust development. CCP has been like this for a decade. CCP is not a young company still trying to figure out how to read and communicate with their customer base. If experience is the ultimate teacher, they've spent more hours in class than virtually any other company thrice their age. The only answer is either the whole staff, past and present, are on the asperger scale somewhere or they simply don't care to try to get better. The odds of it being the former is pretty freaking slim.
I welcome feedback, questions, etc, and for other Eve:Online vets to either support or challenge my post.
My main hope in posting this is that for those of you who are new customers of CCP will not build future expectations expecting a normal company's reaction and development, only to be let down a number of times in the coming 2-5 years. I'm hoping to help spare you from that wasted investment, involvement, and dedication. Go forward if you like, I'm not saying not to, just know what you can realistically expect from CCP. Do the research.

Dear Frame and Hilmar:
Meee One wrote:CCP stands proudly showing off their new babies (Gunjack and Valkyrie).* Person:Aww so cute. CCP talks about how proud they are of their eldest.(EvE) Person: Very respectable. Person points at corner of the room, near an open basement door. Person:Who's that? CCP gets upset and yells at this yet unknown figure, picking them up and throwing them down the flight of stares into the basement. The figure hits the wall with a loud "thud",blood gushing from the impact...and yet receives no sympathy. CCP slams the basement door and locks it. CCP mutters :Why won't you just die already? Person is confused. CCP responds:Oh that was just my middle child (Dust),worthless wretch that it is. CCP quickly shifts focus to it's new babies, ignoring the middle childs cries for even the most modest of attention. And thus Dust dies,a magnificent potential squandered by those without the vision to utilize it properly.

Those hours have already been spent, I promise you. Cryptic did the same thing with CoX; Issue 23(24?) was ready to go, but instead they announced closure in 2 months and didn't push the patch out. CCP is doing the same thing.
Those who do not learn from history are forever noobs and the dupes for companies.

Since there is no future to build towards and no 1.3 patch coming, there is certainly no reason to put up with chicken-***** like RedPencil and all the other explosion-Mario players. I won't bother wasting my time. At least PS3 can be pushed to back, only think left on it I own is The Last of Us.

Wow, you haven't been paying attention at ALL, have you? Well he is right about it being better on a different platform, we'll see about the relationship with CCP.
We'll see?? Did you read my first post in this thread? Study your history, sweet mesiah!

How long have you been with CCP? I mean as a player, not employed. Grace is part of my fundamental personal religious belief, but so is the concept of "unrepentant". After a number of times you just have to come to grip with reality.

CRUSADER2134 wrote:#1. Releasing dust on console only was a mistake from the very beginning. They just don't have the longevity needed for a game coupled with an ever evolving existing PC game.
I agree, but CCP knew this too. And as such, I expected then (as in thought it was right to do so) to properly maintain, develop, and 'get behind' their console MMOFPS as best as the console possibly could. E:Dust514 could have done things they never implemented, and that's on them.
CRUSADER2134 wrote:#3. CCP is a business out to make a profit.
And a business is made up of people who are interacting with customers who are people, so at its basest level there is the issue of how people treat other people. The love of money will never be an acceptable excuse for bad behavior.

And on the same hardware. Um, not the same hardware at all. I've played for years and have had to upgrade my computer several times to continue. Also, Eve is the exception, not the rule.
I meant the server. And sure they just upgraded, but all of Tranquility makes the move, Eve:O and Eve:D.
Looking at mmorpg.com's list, sorted by release date and only looking at 'majorish' titles.... (in quotation marks--most mmos don't ever get close to WoW's size.)
Ultima Online EverQuest Dark Ages Asheron's Call Kingdom of Drakkar Anarchy Online (this entry enters the millennium) Shattered Galaxy Dark Age of Camelot Planetside (Eve:Online goes here) Second Life MU Online FF XI Runescape Lineage 2 Ryzom Vendetta Online EverQuest 2 World of Warcraft Guild Wars D&D Online Rise
I stopped the list at 2007. So I'm not including the very long list of notable games which have lasted longer than E:Dust....including Hello Kitty Online. I don't think his expectations were too unreasonable.

Kevall Longstride wrote:Some have been talking about being told sooner. That would've been awesome but thats not how game development works unfortunately. You're likely familiar with terms like Pre Alpha, Alpha, Closed Beta, Open Beta, etc. But there are also internal stages of development which are called many different things depending on the developer.
CCP only wanted to tell you what they knew was concrete and going to happen. So far, so good.
No, I'm not so sure about that. I don't see what's wrong with communicating to your best advertisers, your best advocates, "Hey, look this probably isn't a surprise but we are really struggling here. We need new blood in the game and those players to stay. Let's talk together and come up with 2 things we could do right now to improve that, and how we can assist and reward you guys for your grassroots efforts."
