I stopped playing this game after about the third patch in the original beta....it did not feed my MAG needs and I eventually went to Planetside 2 on PC...which coincidentally has been a massive failure on PS4 (player counts so low they merged to two servers within 6 months of launch)...
So the lessons are clear...games of scale and depth, where development lifecycles extend over years are just not meant for consoles...consoles are hardwrae limited...therefore the development and longevity of such deep games is also limited on consoles...especially shooters which are very resource intensive..
CCP has done something smart finally by recognizing that what they are trying to accomplish in terms of scale and depth and the ability to actually ceate it, is only possible on PC....
This new game when launched, will be a welcome FPS addition on PC...
I hope they have large player caps and timed rounds, so we get scale but without the neverending unimaginative meta of Planetside 2....
They should also provide a mechanism to take any aurum balances that players have left when Dust closes, to the new game when launched....that's the rignt thing to do...
Good luck all and happy gaming.

I don't doubt what you say at all.
Maybe the other way to do it is for console manufacturers to make longer lifespan products.
Now that really applies only to the current generation, because for all intents and purposes, PS3 is still getting games released on it and it has been a very successful platform for single instance or franchise releases as you aptly described.
But my point is that with the current gen many games had to be modified so that they would perform. Games could not run at 30fps 1080p on current gen and some had to be cut to 900p. So thats hardware limitation within the first year of decent volume uptake of both current gen consoles.
Therefore even if CCP tried to take the new project to console, they are eventually going to hit the same brick walls as they did on PS3.

Not true. PS2 on PS4 has only 2 servers left.
PC has 5 regional servers plus an events server.
PC PS2 community, while it has shrunk, is still alive and well and a lot larger than on PS4.

Is that why the other two big pieces of land are locked? When I downloaded PS2 it said closed beta = mmm idk if its true. The game was fun but as a new player it was plain confusing that I deleted the game.
No. They are locked continents and can be locked for lack of overall population or if a faction captured them during normal gameplay.
It is a daunting game for new players.
I think I saw a post about the download issue on our forums.
If you ever need any guidance on PS2 post the questions on our forums as there are a number of very experienced players who can assist. |

That is an article that predates the launch of PS2 on PS4. It makes no mention of PS2 numbers on either platform at any time.
Your premise is a general one and does not specifically apply to PS2 as you are unable to demonstrate the veracity of your claims about PS2 numbers on the two platforms.
Sure some games that are on both platforms may have a larger following and revenue base on console, but those games may not be held back by the fixed hadrware of consoles that large scale FPS games will constantly struggle with.
