CCP Frame wrote:Dear DUST 514 Community,
CCPGÇÖs development team in Shanghai has been working on a prototype for a first-person shooter for PC with the goal of building a great FPS set in our sci-fi universe of New Eden (the universe in which EVE Online, DUST 514, EVE: Valkyrie, and Gunjack are set). Their experience is being utilized to build a new game from scratch using Unreal Engine 4 while harnessing all our learnings from DUST 514. This is in many ways an evolution of Project Legion, the concept we announced at EVE Fanfest 2014, but without the limitations of technical debt and development paths we quickly discovered in that effort that could never serve as a future-proof technology base for a full production game. This new project is still in an early phase of production, and we feel like weGÇÖre on the right track and plan to give an update at EVE Fanfest on April 21st as a part of the free livestream of the event. Since this new game will be different from DUST 514 (although keeping many of its great parts), we will provide tiered recognition rewards to our loyal DUST customers, details to be announced.
We are very proud of what weGÇÖve learned and accomplished with DUST 514 on PlayStation 3 over the past three years and it is an honor to be a part of such a dedicated community. We consider DUST 514 one of the best free-to-play offerings on the platform, but the years have caught up with us. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that DUST 514 will be shutting down on May 30th, 2016. We therefore will not be releasing the 1.3 update as we had planned. Players will continue to be able to play for free on our servers until then, but all further PSN packs and purchases have been removed and disabled from the in-game marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Players with existing Aurum will be able to continue to purchase items from the in-game marketplace.
Thank you for being a part of DUST 514 on the PlayStation 3. We look forward to the next chapter, and hope youGÇÖll be a part of it and continue the journey with us.
I was one of the very first closed beta players, and I am sad to read this announcement (as expected as it was). I have spent a lot of time playing this game, and have spend plenty of money as well to support CCP in this endeavor. I regret neither the time nor money spent, and have greatly enjoyed my time in this game.
I plan to play until the servers are turned off forever.
I want to thank CCP for the opportunity to play this game, and the addition to the New Eden mythos. The ride has been great and enjoyable.
I have only one last request from CCP: now that Dust514 is ending, can you finally tell us what the 514 stood for, if it was ever even decided?

Also looking forward to hearing CCPs plans for those dust veterans when details become available.
It's been a pleasure o7
Very much this! I, for one, would like my character name to live one. I would request that CCP reserve all current names used in Dust514 as part of the new console so that those like me can live on without a name change. I want my legacy to continue!

If DUST gets shut down on 30th May, is the new game going to be playable by then?
No, we're going to have a year of nothing and when the new(new) game comes out from when you started again(again), nobody will care.
I don't know if this is exactly true. It's been nearly 2 years now since the last Legion update, so that means that they have had quite a bit of development time. I prefer to wait to see what CCP says at FanFest this year for a better idea. If nothing else, Dust has taught me patience where games are concerned.

But this is not the end my friends. Like a phoenix, we shall be reborn from the ashes to inhabit New Eden once again. We shall once again be shooting, tanking, repping, piloting, among other things. We shall not be forgotten. I repeat to you. WE SHALL NOT BE FORGOTTEN.
New Eden needs its heroes, and New Eden also needs its villains. But now, we must join together in harmony in this joyous news.
It is with a great heaviness in my heart to say that our chapter here in the great Universe of New Eden is over, but the book has not yet closed. In due time, and in due process, mercenaries shall be called on once more, AND WE SHALL RISE AGAIN.
I raise my glass to you, sir, and will storm the beaches with you again in the future!

He's not an ******* like so many people love to think. If you actually talk to him he comes across perfectly fine and is quite enjoyable to talk to.
I will simply say that his inability to put his thoughts into words caused many communication issues which hurt the game and the player base.

I mean, I understand if you guys are going to keep the details under-wraps for marketing reasons, but I'm just curious. There's always going to be a fight of philosophy between early awareness and the big reveal mentality. However, the old style of "let's show everything at Fanfest" died off a long time ago, if this announcement is any indicator.

Were you afraid of losing your voluntary spot on on a sham council, on a game that has a definite expiration date? Sad, that all of you were puppets until the end. Speaking for myself, no, I was not afraid of losing the voluntary spot on the - ahem - "sham council" (that you guys elected me to). I'm afraid of losing my voluntary spot on a council when I can still do right by the people who put me in this position and, to date, have done so to the best of my ability. Thinking so short term is what gets a CPM in trouble. A council member needs to think about the longer-stretch and the end goal. You can't beat up over the community's "right to know" when they're going to know anyway from the source itself. It isn't worth risking what you can offer to the community six months, a year, maybe five years from now - even if they never notice the impact you made behind the scenes. Throwing all of that away just to come out and say, "Oh, by the way" not only risks your position to do greater things, but also ruins your reputation and credibility as well. Assuming anyone would have believed any of us -had- we come out and made this announcement ourselves before CCP was ready. And my time spent on the council has shown that it is absolutely worth maintaining that position to do right by you guys, even if you do come off as a little pissy every so often. I'll try to remain as polite as possible, as you seem to be unfamiliar with quarterly projections and how accounting works for capital gain based companies. Your NDA agreement expires, and does not have any consequences or repercussions of consequence of a breach for yourself personally. The worst that could have happened to you; being thrown off a sham council on a game that's ending anyway. In short, you're a temp. You have 0 financial tie to the company. As it would pertain to the long term status of the council, again it has zero consequence. CCP, can choose to end CSM/CPM position and bodies at any point in time. As, they are are a quarterly based company, they are not concerned with long-term investments. Ruining the reputation of the CPM for future use would not matter, as CPMs have been removed from the council before and investigated for corruption already. Protecting the position means nothing as it can be eliminate without cause at any reason, because you are a temp. If you were to provide me evidence of you collecting data, or performing as a liaison to CCP development on behalf of the community; I'd gladly remove my label of you as a "puppet". Until then, you have betrayed the playerbase you pledged to represent to side with a company that has committed the last and ultimate disgrace to it's customers. I'll try to remain as polite as possible, as you seem to be unfamiliar with politics and design consultation. It has nothing to do with finances, projections, etc. At all. It has little to do with the long term status of the council (something I am a strong supporter of, even still). It has nothing to do with the reputation of the CPM "for future use" or the -TWO- removed CPM representatives to date, of which neither - to my knowledge - had any investigation for corruption, not that that is any of your business. And I am -not- protecting the "position". And if you want some of the data I've collected - as well as the other "puppets" on the "sham" council - I'll kindly point you in the direction of the Myofibril changes, the shield changes (that happened across ALL races and dropsuits), the immersion and lore feedback, etc etc etc. Your lack of research of the "data I've collected" does not constitute a responsibility for me to supply it to face baseless accusations of someone that, as far as I know, has not done much for the community themselves. That being said. My "position" on the CPM is more valuable long-term to provide design feedback on things that I know the players will find both enjoyable and engaging. Feedback that will make this new project worthwhile as a whole to the greater majority of our community as well as welcoming of new members therein. Feedback that I could not supply if I had violated my "temp agreement" with CCP to give you a whole three weeks notice. Good day, sir.
Amen.

You assumed wrong, I know games end, but usually they are forthcoming with info. Ive been reading online for months that it was still being supported. If they had been upfront instead saying a new release was coming, I would played with expectation of not to invest my time and hard earned cash into a game coming to a close. It's not called illogical, its called misleading. But I think you misunderstood me, I don't care the game is coming to an end per say, I'm not even mad, I just think it's a shotty way of handling this whole thing, bad communication, bad business practices. These are my opinions, if you don't like it, no problem. But refrain from taking shots at me and move along.
I don't have a problem with your opinion at all. It just didn't seem logical to me.
If you are basing this on the idea that they have known a long time, just remember it's possible that they haven't know that long. It could have been, "if Q4 sales is not improved, we will close it down after the first of the year." This is very likely given my experiences in corporate America. Just food for thought.

Have their been any thought and discussions of continuing the institution forward into the new game and the new paradigm? If not, start some! I think having the CPM institution continue onto the new game to give feedback, etc. would be brilliant. Well, I can't really say for sure, because I don't really know for sure! It is unfortunate that we came in during the transition period, but we have also gotten to impact the development of this new project on the ground floor, and that's pretty cool. Going forward, I think CCP understands the importance of community interaction, and I can only hope that means the survival of the CPM as an institution, one way or the other. If Legion was just around the corner, then perhaps the lolCPM would still have meaning. CPM has less meaning than ever, the game has less meaning, the community has less meaning... When will you people realize that CCP has only 1 title to their credit... because they don't know how to build games. They know how to sell; mostly the sale of bullsh!tting people into thinking they care. CPM was invented to curb community out-cry from massive in-game EvE protesting. It's yet another cost-less front CCP uses to make it look like they care when all they want is to suck revenue out of players without providing a decent service in return. CPM is useless and has never been needed, especially in a community this small. The fact that they decided to shut off the servers in just 12 weeks of notice tells that this decision was made much longer ago. All the 'feedback' you can CCP means nothing, as they make all the final decisions. Legion(or whatever project they are working on) is years away from being released, by that time us Dust Bunnies will not care anymore, and CCP can add another failed title to their resume. Just imagine how many projects they started that never even left the drawing board that failed. If CCP had been in the domain of any other country besides Iceland, they'd been out of business and bankrupt by now. So, with CCP not having credibility. CPM certainly has 0. Get over yourselves. As ALL CPMs just wanted the title for selfish gain anyway. At least you could have told us 3 weeks ago when you found out that 3 years of playing, and spending money was for nothing...
17 weeks, not 12.
Vent your anger friend, we respect your opinions (even those of us who disagree with it), but don't expect us to consider changing our opinions unless you are opening to changing your own.
Otherwise, truck on.

Hey Darth, could you ask the devs to set some time aside for maybe a weekend to play a few matches with us? I can and I will, but it is now safe to publicly say that everyone at Shanghai is working on making this new project great, and therefore the chances of having a Dev Day are probably slim. I do agree that it would be fitting, and would be a great way to show their community support. Thanks for the reply. I know it will be a pain to schedule in but I think it would be a great way for well, everyone to have at least one more good memory to carry from this game.
Agreed.

CCP's first and arguably greatest mistake with Dust 514 was making it a game that could be sustained for decades on a device with a limited lifespan. CCP learned that the hard way, as many of us did.
Their second mistake was not listening and responding to the good-mannered players more, but they know that one too.
The big question that they ask themselves and each other is this: will they actual repeat the second mistake again, or will they avoid doing so for a change?
I, for one, will be watching with great interest, as always.

I really shouldn't feel so sad about a video game being turned off.

howard sanchez wrote:Well, what a long strange trip its been, right folks?
There has never been a game I didn't play that I've spent so much time reading, thinking and wishing I could play more than DUST.
And the news isn't a surprise.... just one of those things we have all waited entirely too long to hear.
Thank you Hilmar for not waiting until FanFest to tell us. Thank you Rattati for keeping this dream alive and well after the last time.
But more than anything else: Thank you to the players of DUST. I love seeing your names on these forums...each of them evoke so many memories (good, bad and ugly).
I really do hope we meet each other across the battlefields of the future.
ahh, what the hell...once more for old time's sake: STARFALL
Message me in game - we have GOT to squad up again before the doors are closed for good.

Just used my only Balac's assault suit... was shotgunned in the back by a cloaky scout. If that isn't a tribute to what Dust has been, I don't know what is... LOL

Jadek Menaheim wrote:Rain0001 wrote:What provisions will existing characters have to keep our character names reserved?
If there's none that's fine, I've had my eye on "Jadek Menaheim" for a while now. They're probably going to prevent low loyalty rank/warpoint alts from going forward to the PC version. This may free up some names which could allow you to scoop up variations of my name that I claimed a long time ago to prevent people from messing with my name in the Dust player market. Day one is going to be a mad dash for name grabs depending on how easy it is to set up accounts.
My guess: CCP will reserve the character name from each "active" account with the highest SP total. They will probably define "active" as logging in during the final (insert number here) months of Dust, and reserve it for (insert number here) months after NewDust is launched.
