Sand. Again.
Conyr wondered how he was still alive, feeling presently as if he was expelling more air due to his incessant sighing than he was breathing back in. He looked at the horizon across the desert, and the day was so clear and the desert so large and so flat that Conyr could've sworn he saw the curvature of the planet. Marvellous.
Beyond that horizon, he knew, was Venezzia. There was the beginning of this meandering journey which the logipriest felt had lasted a lifetime, but in reality merely spanned a few weeks, maybe a month or two. Time had stretched and dilated, compressed and expanded until the only temporal constant to Conyr was the unrelenting, periodic pounding of a headache which he didn't notice until reached the bottom of the enormous Lucian mountain which he had found himself on top of.
It was strange, the little logipriest mused, that the events beyond witnessing Hakyi's death were simply gone from his mind. He felt as if he should know what had happened, but all he remembered was the light, the bright light. It was tinged with green, Conyr now realised. And then he was clambering down the mountain slope, sliding, rolling, at times losing control but always regaining his footing, using all he knew about navigating an overgrown jungle and applying it to the rocks and snow. When he had finally hit level ground, he found himself at the edge of Lucia, right on the border, staring out at the desert and nursing innumerable scrapes and cuts which were healed even as he stood there. He stood, admiring the sunrise, and simultaneously wept more silent tears which made his shoulders shudder but he refused to make a sound, not even a whimper of sorrow, for his sandman friend. He closed his eyes, then, and willed himself to imprint upon his very identity the fierce happiness that he knew burned inside Hakyi's heart when he piloted his kalteraft.
Then he opened his eyes, and Conyr found himself a new companion. The headache.
And so he sighed, and realised that this sigh was not the first, nor would it be the last.
Which is how Conyr found himself presently, pondering the recent events of his young life, sighing inconsistently, and walking back into the malevolent yet benevolent sun of the desert, the all-seeing eye of the sands, its pounding heat a known friend to Conyr now, but as accustomed as he had become to it, the heat magnified his headache to such proportions it took tremendous effort for him to place one foot in front of the other. But he did. He did with the fortitude of a giant, and Conyr grinned to himself despite his situation as he recalled the one giant he remembered meeting in this very desert, one who had almost sat on him.
And he never faltered, this young logipriest, not one step on his retracing of his path, as he returned to Venezzia. |

With Sandromin standing in the grand halls of Diyad, the floating city, Sandromin was speaking.
"We must not make any hesitation. We must begin our journey. To start, the expedition will head off to Arteum to stock on supplies and begin preparations. Once we finish that, we will head up the Ivory Coast, straight to Venezzia. At the docks, we will refuel and resupply; we shall also bring a few more, so have some extra airships if possible Thanatos. Then, as that is complete, our party will head to the logipriest island and traverse the ruins at Nexhawk's request.
"At the island, we will move due east, straight to the scorched lava lands. On the way, we will stop at Doria to explore the ruins and hopefully find a few artifacts. From there, we will head straight north to the Giant's lands to help Brutus. We will then complete our quest by heading south into the Tundras of Doomgoth. If we need to make any side steps, we will do so when near the lands we are at. So, who is ready for the journey?" |

Nexhawk stopped abruptly for a moment when he caught a single phrase that Sandromin spoke. Straight to the scorched lava lands... What are the chances for this to be a coincidence? Does he really know that the Eyes will have to be taken to Ardorium for the final stage of activation? Surely, Sol'Krin must guide his thoughts!
He motioned for other leaders and Ignatus to follow him, clasped his hands, and walked with Sandromin. "This is absolutely perfect. You cannot imagine how glad I am to learn the route we will be taking. Also," Nexhawk threw a short glance at Ignatus, "if it ever turns out that we don't have enough space, I can offer the Embershard as an additional transport. I'm sure it will go just as fast as the Diyadian airships." |

Alixenus followed a pace or two behind, scrawling notes for the Military diaires. His steps lighter and more free now that he knew for certain that he was about to head off on campaign again. Perhaps the greatest campaign of his life, of all time, or his last. He didn't care, he was enslaved to his wanderlust and desire for vengenace against the gods who had the Hubris to think that they could toy with Venezzians.
"I'm all set Sandromin, but I don't think that I packed anything appropriate for the desert. The main Venezzian fleet will accompny us as the Giant's land. Beyond that we must travel to doomgoth on our own. Speaking of Giants, does anyone know where Brutus is?" |

And so it was! The poor bastard got what no being should ever experience. The absolute and complete lose of the mind. Oh, the woe! Oh, the misery this man must experience!
The stretcher shook back and forth, back and forth, as if someone was rocking a baby in it's cradle. Xavier was a mess. His armor, sweet and shiny, but his face, oh so badly worn. It looked, different. More, wild. More, old. Blood was all across his face. It 'twas a hard, hard fall.
Xavier stirred. There were two men carrying the stretcher. They were both adorned with a pure white robe. This was strange to Xavier. Why wear white was it was destined to get dirty? In dwarven culture, a deep red was the coat doctors wore, so patients could not see the blood.
"Where am I?" asked the tired man in the stretcher.
Both men looked down at him. "He is alive," one said.
"Don't worry. you are going to be alright."
Xavier looked at his body. He was still in his silvery armor which was shining in the sunset. Why was he in the stretcher. He did not feel sick or hurt.
What exactly happened? I opened the book and it, attacked me. I then fell...
The book. Where was the book? The book, that began Xavier's misery, and still will not let go! Oh, the book will not let go!
Xavier suddenly, to the doctors' surprise, rolled over and fell, face first, to the cold pavement. The pain was sharp and sudden, but it did not matter. Xavier wanted the book.
The doctors crowded against Xavier. He had a bloody nose from the fall. They both were urging him to get back on the stretcher.
"No. Leave me be. Both of you." Xavier turned around. He had an aggressive expression on his face. The blood made him seem, demonic.
The men, apparently intelligent, stepped back from the dwarf. He had ambition in his eye. Oh, yes, he was destined to get that book. And with that, he shambled on, down the corridor, where They were conversing..

"Thanatos, is your flagship ready? And as for you, Alixenus, are you coming? For now is the time, and we must not tarry any longer! We shall be off everyone, as the feast of Arteum is beginning as we speak! To my homeland, oh, how I reminisce of thee! OOC: Quick reminder. Karthage, the capital, is not a floating city, it is in a canyon on the continent. Gran Arcadia(with Brutus and friends) is. The laboratory(with Engie and Vektor) is on a a floating base, the clinic(with Xavier) is located on a separate section of said base.
Thanatos all the while lays silent. Organizing thoughts, memories, possibilities. His foresight was truly being strained. He had still known information of the imminent future. But now the future could be random. Was his knowledge useful anymore? As everyone prepared to leave, excited and conversing with one another, he was a prisoner of his own mind. Finally he spoke.
"You may take my largest ships as well as a handful of my officials. I will not be able to join you on your quest. At least not for now. I still have matters to attend to here in Diyad. Brutus is nowhere to be seen. Xavier is still in our custody. I will join you soon enough however. I hope you can understand... Also, Alixenus, do what you must to aid Brutus. We have no idea where he may be."
Vektor begins to collect himself. He hurries the Engineer to leave with the plans and the ito, as well as other documents that he was warned not to read until returning to his homeland. He was also unaware that tonnes of ito-refined adamantium was being transported as well. When he was sure that the transports had safely left the docking bay, he immediately collapses....
Franklin felt slightly ashamed of himself.
"Listen, I'm not saying you can't protect her. I'm just saying you can't let your physical strength get the better of your mind. We need to think realistically. You can't take on the whole city. That said you are a force to fear. You can't expect to win without the help of others. The Snake of Illusion will find you eventually. You must be prepared, how will you react to his words?"
The medics back away from the enlarged dwarf. Behind them several footsteps simultaneously echo throughout the halls. Guards. Royal guards, dressed in lavish white with crimson capes. They advise the medics to return to their work. A young soldier steps from the ranks. No older than 17. He has a soft complexion and an eager face. He is sure not let his fear show.
"Please sir, you are in a critical state. We advise you not to struggle. We are trying our best to help you." |

Looking toward the coast, Nexhawk saw the Embershard's crimson flag soaring in the distance. He watched as the phoenix hatchling, sent by Ignatus, carried a message to the ship's captain. He nodded and was just prepared to step on the Diyadian flagship when something abrupt startled him. What in the name of...?
Nexhawk stopped in his tracks and set his eyes on the Arcanum in his right hand. Albeit there was no visual disturbance in the book's appearance, he felt its rhythmical pulsations reverberating through his hand. "Wait!" Nexhawk called to his companions. "I... I do not know what this means exactly, but it seems that the book is calling to something close."
"But what?" The question came from Ignatus. "The Arcanum has been cleansed of its darkness!"
"Not entirely, so it appears. It is possible that, although the essence of corruption has been purged from the book, its trace lingers on. It cannot manifest itself into anything dangerous, but there is still enough of it to be willing to, so to say, combine with the insidious force that might now possess Xavier's mind. But what caused it to send the call at this time?"
It will never hurt to check. Nexhawk turned to Thanatos. "Where exactly is Xavier held right now?" |

The transport hasn't left, only the supply--- YOU PATHETIC SWINE! I-I.... doesn't matter. That isn't why I'm here anyway. He is interrupted by a sinister howl. "No..no..no..no..no.nno..NOO!!! FATE WILL GIVE ME POWER! WHEN THE VOID THAT IS MY DESIRE IS FULL, I WILL BE A GOD!" "Then you will die a god!" Vektor's eyes glow blue as do alkhemical runes along the walls. Steel spears shoot out of the walls extended towards the cloaked Halvedes. The violent spears tear apart the lab around, but it is all for naught. By just extending his hand the spears are absorbed into him. After losing the rest of his strength Vektor collapses once more. Halvedes notices the ball of ito that was presented to the Engineer, he cackles sinsterly as he commands it to his palm. "But how?" "Enough Vektor, now it is time you rest." He grabs the old man's hands. The ito enters his body, his veins illuminated through his skin by a bright red-orange glow. Excruciating pain prohibits sound from exiting Vektor. The ito begins to slowly disintegrate his hand and travel down his arm. Before completely leaving the room, Halvedes makes one last remark. "Unfortunately for you, by the time they find out of your Fate, you will be long gone from this world. Now if once more you'll excuse me, I have a dwarf to rescue." |

Suddenly another sound arose from the center of the capital. There, the two Phoenixes that carried Nexhawk and Xavier sprang from their eggs and flew to heed their master's call. In several moments, they already landed before Nexhawk and squeaked eagerly.
He grabbed Fel'ir's harness and glanced at the king of Diyad. "It's your call, Thanatos. Should we ascend to wherever Xavier is and check on his condition? Or do you think your men will handle it?" |
