OOC Each of our nations hadn't seen each other since this 'first empire' that Sandromin's creation story mentioned. Yet despite this we've overcome our natural suspicions and gelled together in the face of common threats incredibly quickly and easily. Frankly, we're lucky to have only had *this* much politicking already. Oh and I wasn't aware that I needed to reply to you Nexhawk. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
Alixenus came back on deck to see a man born of ash and flame standing amongst his companions. He had recieved a note just a day before from the Charybdis claiming that they had encountered such people by the Logipriest island. Surely it couldn't be the same ship both there and here? Their speed of propulsion would have to be incredible. His curiosity piqued, Alixenus put the book he was carrying into one of his larger pockets and approached the congregation. |

//OOC: Well, my assumption was that everyone already saw me, and Alixenus probably had something to say to Ignatus as well. Later, however, Thanatos came in and indicated that Ignatus should remain outside for now. :/ Anyways, I've cut out the part where he interacts with Sandromin, so neither he nor you should have seen me. //End of OOC\\ |

As Ignatus asked Achyr his questions, he managed to steal a glance into the deck, where Thanatos was conserving with other passengers. He instantaneously spotted the man he's been looking for. The person's skin was of the color of sand, and from the look of his clothes, the man was some sort of a leader among his people. His sword, although sheathed, was noted by Ignatus as radiating fire that was slightly seeping from the top of the sheathe. Impressive. Ignatus chuckled and directed his attention back at Achyr, who was coming up with the answers. |

//OOC: In before Sandromin answers...
The map was updated after the most recent nation's arrival (which happens to be me). I think no one lives on Mediterra's eastern coast, so I guess it might be a nice spot for you. Two nations, I believe, are in Tier 3, whereas everyone else is Tier 2. The Ashborn are a bit different story, since they are magic users. I think it is always a good time to join; the thread will see a birth of a new nation and a new character, which is always exciting. And yes, I believe Sandromin is converting this thread into a book. //End of OOC\\ |

OOC: Seeing as there's nothing happening, I'll narrate.
The airship neared the steam-shrouded city of Diyad, with its metal cities and factories. Alkhemists manipulated matter to give it shape previously unknown or impossible in the great refineries. As the airship reached a docking hangar, a hook was attached to a ring in its side to herd it steadily downwards. A walkway was raised to the zeppelin's doors, which promptly opened. |

So, without further ado, my Literature assignment from last week!

Achyr, for a brief moment is silent. He did not know that much about the other leaders.
" I suppose I should start with the ones I know the best. The one with the sand colored skin is Sandromin, leader of, as you may have guessed, the Sand Men. The live in the desert regions of Mediterra. The Oasis I believe they call it. He is of my knowledge a decent leader. We don't really hear about the Sand Men that often. I believe the nation as a whole is prospering. They have recently discovered ancient technology that in a sense, surpasses that of Diyad, who before now had the superior technology. That's not to say we can't hold our own against them."
"The other gentlemen over there is Alixenus. He hails from the merchant nation of Venezzia, rich with culture, art , literature, entertainment and so on. As of now his political position is in question, but nonetheless he hold a lot of power in Venezzia. He is a hero after all. Many Diyadians have Venezzian ancestry, so we hold his people dear to our hearts."
"In our engine room you you may find perhaps our strangest guest, a representative of the 42nd Collective. They are a race of mechanical men. They seem to operate under a hive mind, but some have shown to have their own personalities. Most however are very disconnected when it comes to social interactions. Their technology is at the level of the Sand Men. Seeing as they are quite possibly a product of the aforementioned ancient race that provided the advanced technology."
"Lastly we have the hooded man... He is our king, Thanatos of Diyad. If you'd excuse my pause, his presence here still surprises me. You see Diyad has been hidden for a long time using our own native energy. We have seen much turmoil in the past several centuries. Years ago he'd shown up. He was such a great speaker, and leader. I.... I was just a lowly drunk, and he saw something in me that no one else did, including me. To this day I still don't understand why. He and I staged a revolution, and he became the first king in centuries. Diyad has prospered immensely since. I have served directly under him for years. I have no regrets whatsoever. Then months ago he invites Sandromin and Alixenus into the country, and offers to help them with their own crisis. I don't know why he did it. Our nation would have been untouched by the Logizombies and Golems. He set out on an expedition with them, and never came back. They saw him die. Now he comes back out of nowhere. I still can't believe it! But enough of that. I hope this has answered your question."
OOC: Just save the landing for later. I'm still awaiting any questions from Alixenus or Sandromin... |

Ignatus listened very attentively to Achyr. His eyes darted from one member of the congregation to another as his companion spoke about each.
So the gifted one is called Sandromin... Quite an interesting coincidence that he leads the sandmen, for sand and ash are not all too different...
Venezzians... Weren't they the ones whose fleet was met by Cenizar? He expressed much hope in establishing friendly relations with them in the last letter.
Hmm, robots? Quite intriguing... Amazing how this continent seems to host very few, if any, mages, yet the nations here easily compensate through technology.
Thanatos, the man who cheated death itself... No wonder his name and aura reflect his affiliation with it now. But what is it that grants him such abilities? Is he a fallen god?
Ignatus snapped out of his thoughts when Achyr finished. "Yes, this information will really aid in Nexhawk's future interactions with these leaders. Meanwhile, I could help but notice you mentioning some sort of energy your people are using. I would like, if you don't mind, to learn more about this energy, for I cannot perceive any magical aura around you and therefore assume that this energy is not of a magical origin." |

The wind picked up on the airhsip and a piece of parchment flew overboard and out of Alixenus' grasp. Lunging for it, he nearly knocked the rest of his work over the side. He cursed, checking which sheet he had lost before pulling out a fresh parchment and starting over. Had anyone been nosy enough to look, they would've seen Alixenus charting navigational paths around Mediterra based on tides and winds, trying to figure determine where the Ashborn were sending their ships from and how many were in range of Venezzia. Of course, he could just ask the Ashborn's representative all these questions, but a strategic 'what if' was just what he needed to pass the time.
This reminded him of his younger days, freshly enrolled in one of the trade guilds many private armies. His days were spent training with every sort of weapon the Republic had. Swordcraft typically occured before breakfast. Then there were blunt weapons, heavy and two handers, excercise in full plate, marksmanship, equestrianism and siege works. After dinner his nights were passed in the Library, working on whatever assignment had been set that week. Some days it was speechcraft, which Venezzians considered as important as martial skill, others it was analysis of famous battles. Every once in a while there was project on how to deal with Politicians. Alixenus never did too well in those, he remembered with a smirk. By the end, Alixenus, like everyone else, was a weapon forged to perfection for the trade guild. Their edge made sharp by the relentless hammer of training, but balanced by oratory and poetry. Each was a masterwork that any Smith would be proud of, most would not make it to retirement intact. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
Back in the city, Lombardi and Ravena were up to their eyes in paperwork, ink and officers from the Logistics Corps. Trying to call up two companies of Pikemen was a hard enough task, but they also had to assign ships, doctors, sappers, food in case there was nothing in Brutus' land and guess the amount of pay needed for the campaign. After signing papers on behalf of the military band's quartermaster, Lombardi had a thought.
"You remember, that Brutus mentioned that ther would be undead Giants?" "Of course" replied Ravena, almost offended that Lombardi would question his memory. "Well, what good are two comapnaies of Pikemen going to be against that? Surely we'd need some crossbowmen and Knights aswell?" "You remember how easily Alixenus brought Brutus down?" "Do you remember how many Logizombies Brutus killed?" "...I was observing the siege from afar" "You mean you were sailing away?" Ravena wasn't sure if that was in jest or a genuine barb, but he decided not to pursue it. "Well I'm not a General, but tell me, if you plan on throwing the whole of the Republic at these, ferals, how do you intend to transport them? We haven't had need for landing craft since the days of the last Pirate King"
Ravena had a point. Venezzia could certainly transport it's enitre army by sea. If you included the Merchant vessels they could take their faimilies too. But they could'nt land troops under hostile conditions. "Baron-Admiral, you are considering a problem that doesn't exist. The Navy could easily blast any defenders from entrenched positions, like they did when we fought the Logipriests. Then the troops can come in on Galleys and Row boats. But if you are so concerned that we won't even be able to find a beach that doesn't have waterproof zombies, why don't you commision some combat transports? Or use fire?"
The excahnge was perfectly normal, it was a tradition among Venezzian officers to consider every possible scenario in the pre-planning phase, no matter where the avenue of though went. Not long after Lombardi filled out the paperwork for a compnay of crossbowmen, just in case Brutu's people were in direr straits than previously thought. _________________________________________________________________________________________ OOC: Thought you'd want to know Galrick, there's a free online program that let's you play D&D over the internet.
