Turrets never caused self damage, though they did cause massive knock-back a couple builds ago. You see the damage marker but it doesn't actually affect your shields.

You would think the huge cannon hanging next to the moon pool would be used for that. However your base spawn should be protected, so spawn there rather thn the MCC when you get redlined.
