I get where you guys are coming from now - a lot of the shows interesting pace is finally taking a back seat to flesh out some characters internal strife believably.
Unfortunately they did so by tying two slow stories together.
They probably thought people would enjoy watching the loli purple hair girl learingn her Teaching - but it was tedious watching her anguish over a childish issue. And it's backed and then followed by slow pacing and lots of internal dialogue.
But to say the show has dropped for it is too much, Log Horizon in season 2 is basically telling us they're comfortable enough with the plot and characters that they can slow it down and start fleshing everything out.
as such, season 2 is much like season one of clannad, it's not going to wrap up anything but give you a ton more questions.
There's also something else I've noticed - animation quality dropped. I saw consistently ugly scenes as if they just couldn't be bothered to draw a line straight. This is becoming noticeable more frequently in the later episodes, especially when the youngster started there travels.
It was the stupid arc devoted to the kids that caused me to drop it. Personally, Akatsuki's arc where she was learning her Teaching was one of the better points of Log Horizon; I really enjoyed that bit. Everything after that was just boring as hell.

I was the opposite, I was annoyed that she was less emotionally matured then a 13 y/o, then any of the 13 y/os in that show - she's just a walking child herself until her ark finished and she matured. But she's slowly starting to become less cute and more annoying to me. The way she's mimicking things she doesn't understand while trying to be cute is way over-playing her moe. Every time she kicks that Tank guy though I can't help but smile - that running gag is great :D
But that being said - the kids are more interesting then she is - especially the bard and blonde's relationship. Him being an NPC turned Adventurer with his insider knowledge of the world and his special relation and view point of the adventure gives him some incredible room to be an amazing character. Even with them playing him off as a dog/idiot, his moments are great.
And now the younger brother interacting with that blonde chick *I know who she is :P* was also great, learning his back story and how it all comes together for him an his emotions and logic - great.
My only complaint of the children is that the main girl from that group, whatever her name is, is surprisingly dull. Her relationship with the main guy and fogging things up for ninja girl also leaves me feeling a very cliche and obvious plot twist is coming. Never a good feeling to have about a dull character

Certainly does better at adapting the material than the Golden Age movies. That's good to hear.
On the topic of the golden age movies, they get a lot of shit but they're honestly pretty decent. If you can deal with the (admittedly pretty bad) CG then I find some of the hand-drawn animation to be fantastic. The Guts v Griffith fight scenes in particular were pretty awesome

That is the very reason you should watch it.
If a show can pull on your heartstrings and evoke emotions from your very soul, it is truly an amazing show.
Now, under my supreme authority, I order you to watch Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso from start to finish(or at least the most recent episode) and enjoy it to its fullest.

Sorry Ice, I can't watch Your lie in April.
blame the director for making the plot too obvious. I don't want her to die and know that's how they'll play it in the end.
The main guy is going to move on playing piano forever more while moping about her death and we'll likely get no true resolution about anything from any of the other characters other then life sucks without blondie but it'll get better... eventually.

Idk sota, the fact that they explained what "Your lie in April" meant was decent enough for me. There are not many endings that I like when it comes to anime, but this one was pretty damn perfect.
Sure, I kinda figured what was going to happen...but they did leave a few surprises for the end I didn't expect that makes me want to re-watch the whole thing now.

As to emphasis my point about how absolutely perverted this season is, I've started a show called Yurikuma Arashi.
It's a very ecchi show about girl on girl ... on eating girl.
Next I'm going to try this Virgin Maria, but the title already kinda... haha, what a season.
And high school DxD comes next season, w00t for more perversion, Heimdllar must be pleased :3

And high school DxD comes next season, w00t for more perversion, Heimdllar must be pleased :3 Neither yurikuma or Maria the Virgin Witch are heavy on the ecchi front. The former is just a symbolism laden tale about ... its actually a bit difficult to describe what it's about. I guess you could say it deals with the idea of true friendship through adversity while touching on a society that ostricizes nonconformity. But seriously the first episode is probably the most notably lewd one. Like I've said before the show is a bit obtuse and doesn't catch it's stride until about ep4 but its pretty damn entertaining despite that.
And Maria the Virgin Witch is barely lewd at all despite some light sexual humor in the first few EPs. That one focuses entirely on a girl going out of her way to end war in her small corner of the world, touching on the interaction between human and witch society and the role of the gods in doing something to address the suffering of man. Maria and her crew are a seriously enjoyable cast of characters. You've probably picked up some of the best shows airing this season.

Yep. Maria the Virgin Witch has the echhi humor without going over the top like most of this seasons shows have. Testament of the new sister devil has just gone way overboard most of the time. |

Unlike Accel World the fact that SAO was popular enough to prompt Toonami to pick it up is evidence enough that it's mainstream. Couple this with the series having made ridiculous amounts of money in Japan and it's not hard to come to that conclusion. Its introduced (fortunately or unfortunately depending on your perspective) a ton of new people to the medium.
So yeah, the franchise is totally mainstream. As is Attack on Titan. As is Kill la Kill. As is (for the slightly older generation) Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.
Accel World is forgettable in comparison to the SAO juggernaut.

I was disappointed with Kill la Kill frankly.
A show that absolutely oozed style from start to finish yes but one that ultimately left me dissatisfied with everything that could have been. Everything from the intro to the initial introduction of Tsumugu was absolutely sublime but after that point I feel like the show stumbles and is never able to quite pick up the pieces on the writing front. Tsumugu never does anything significant after that point. Nudist Beach, an organization that's implied to have much more significance to the overall arching plot, gets wrecked in a single episode. The "Fiber Bullet" plot point is completely dropped and forgotten about the moment it's brought up. Ryouko has the world bend over backwards to make up for her fuckups (how many times did she "get away" after being pummeled by Satsuki's forces?), the field trip arc was pointless and a waste of time, etc etc etc. It really feels like there was a major re-write during the middle of development where they just veer off into a completely different direction.

Yessss, finally someone listens. Easily my top contender for my Anime of the Year 2014 and, as you said, is probably up there with some of the best shows I've ever seen in the medium. Just a fantastically executed character drama and the overall art direction (though divisive) is one that I wholly appreciated start to finish. Some of the background art in particular is just gorgeous.
Though Haikyuu!! is less ambitious in terms of overall direction I think if you enjoyed Ping Pong you'll similarly enjoy that show as well. It's another extremely well crafted sports show that focuses on volleyball instead. In contrast with Ping Pong, Haikyuu spends a bit more time explaining the ins and outs of the sport itself while using it as a device to tie in the specific development of the characters. Ping Pong felt like a character drama that used Ping Pong as a convenient device to tell its tale where as I feel like the "Sport" in Haikyuu takes more of a spotlight. The author does a really really good job of balancing a large cast of the characters and the added addition of a team element makes for some interesting directions for the story. Hit it up man.
