All the so called "big shows" end up being not my style. I have however seen pretty much any and all mainstream shows and tons of off the radar as well. I have been watching anime for 25 years give or take. Thanks for the reccomendations Ill check them out. Although the only ones I havent seen are the currently airing. It's hard to really gauge people's experience with anime on boards like this because it can vary pretty wildly and I'm always hesitant to recommend certain shows to people who are newer to the medium. If you're looking for material that's a bit more diverse (not necessarily violent however) then I'd probably recommend shows like ... Mushishi - Traveling medicine man goes from place to place dealing with the trouble that the spirit creatures in the world create. Gloomy, slower paced, and a bit more methodical in its story telling. Episodic. Ping Pong the Animation - I've written a lot about this show recently and as its just wrapped up it's probably prime viewing material. A character drama that uses Ping Pong as the stage to tell its stories. Animation is stellar but the art style is divisive, you'll either love it or hate it. Definitely the stand out series of the Spring imo. Planetes - Following the tale of what are essentially "Space Garbage Men" as they clean up low Earth orbit of debris. Truly one of the very few shows to depict realistic null-G movement in an anime and a delightful tale beyond that. Aku no Hana (Flower of Evil) - The highschool anime made by people who hate highschool anime. It takes every common trope from Japan's fixation on the highschool experience and turns it on its head - it's an ugly, corrupted, and decaying environment that makes up an all together human experience. Another divisive art style. Detroit Metal City - Comedy about a dude who loves soft and "fluffy" music that finds himself leading a heavy metal band. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's probably one of the funniest shows i've ever seen in any medium in my entire life. Time of Eve - Focusing on the interaction between Human and Human-Like Robots. Very Asimov in its world building (based on his 3 laws of Robotics) and an extremely pleasant experience throughout. None of these shows have any of the ecchi, pantsu, or fanservice you were complaining about but they also aren't very action oriented either. Feel free to take your pick out of the lot though as they're all highlights (imo) of the medium in one respect or another. More action stuff that you've probably seen - Steins;Gate (less action more mystery but whatev) Durarara (from the people who did Baccano) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (new series, not the OVAs from decades ago) Read or Die Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (has ecchi but its so fantastically over the top that I think people should check it out regardless) Oh and +1 recommendation for Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. It's dark as **** and the production values on the series are noticeably higher than the majority of what comes out.

Main character went from being an observant dude who found himself in a situation where he was able to deal with threat A by having the right amount of luck / planning to execute a certain plan and then shifting to being shown to be the only competent pilot the earth forces have when threat B comes rolling on in. The series showed a lot of promise with the way it handled the action at first only to hunker down the protagonist with plot armor and nerfing everyone else to make him look good in comparison. Might drop it. Oh and I didn't realize that I had actually read the Akame ga Kill manga about 2 years ago ... I was not impressed. What I've seen of Space Dandy season 2 on the other hand has been pretty stellar. Hoping it doesn't have the same consistency problems as season 1. Still need to check out ... Bakumatsu Rock (because it looks absurd) Fate/Kaleid S2 (guilty pleasure) Tokyo ESP .. and a couple shoujo I was recommended .. and at least a couple episodes of the stuff you guys recommended me as well

I got sidetracked in the middle of Madoka (which is juuust weird enough to make me forgive its high school setting) by Sengoku Basara: Judge End, because I have a soft spot for the Sengoku cast, whether it be games or movies. I will be driving cross country so I will be restricted to Wi Fi hotspots and all the Manga I can download in the next 24 hours, Gimme some names! Oh wow, not sure how could I have forgotten Berserk. Fantastic read. On top of that we may as well add Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's pretty much a classic in manga.
