Here's my list (not in any order, just going by the order in my queue)
Netflix:
Death Note (Two of the most intelligent people become friends, but are actually trying to kill each other)
Attack on Titan (First anime I've seen in a while that kills off main characters and leaves you in suspense. Hits you hard emotionally)
Knights of Sidonia (Attack on Titan...in space)
Eden of the East (Great one to watch with the girlfriend)
Sekirei (Who needs plot when you have boobs)
Welcome to the NHK (Makes you appreciate that you're not that much of a shut-in...hopefully)
Rosario + Vampire (I hate anything to do with vampires, but again, boobs. This one actually has a story though...kinda.)
Heaven's Lost Property (Angels, watermelons, flying panties...just trust me, it's good)
Chobits (Guy finds cute robot, gets into a mess of trouble. Great just as long as you can get past the first episode)
Chrome Shelled Regios (Starts out actiony, turns into drama, ending wasn't that great...but I still liked it a lot)
Crunchyroll:
Sword Art Online/ SAO II (Guy gets stuck in an MMO, if he dies he'll die in real life. Beat all 100 levels and they get set free)
Engaged to the Unidentified (This is a silly, silly anime. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense, but that's why it's good)
Sakura Trick (Girls kissing girls. I just liked it because the relationships felt real instead of goofy. Will make you smile)
Soni-Ani: Super Sonico (One of the few anime to give the female characters proper proportions. Sonico is my favorite ^^)
My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering... (Choose: "Let me touch your boobs" or "Hey, touch my boobs"...yup)
The Irregular at Magic High School (A cool anime about technology)
No Game No Life (An Ecchi with mind-game puzzles that make you think. Hilarious and cute at the same time)
Vividred Operation (Girls gain superpowers to fight huge mechs, and they can combine powers with each other, pretty cool)
Black Bullet (less action that I thought, but it is a deep story that really connects you emotionally with the characters)
The Comic Artist and His Assistants (Should the panty shot be full, partial, or covered left to the imagination?)
Mekakucity Actors (Very trippy, but gets really good towards the end. Lots of backstory through the whole thing)
Nisekoi (A guy has a lock, but which girl has the key? He's forced to "date" a girl he despises and can't keep things together)
Arpeggio of Blue Steel (I never thought that naval ship battles could be this cool...then again they all have hot female avatars...)
Gurren Lagann (Starts in small tunnels underground, but at the end they're fighting with giant robots in space. wtf)
Henneko (A cat god grants wishes, crazy **** happens)
Oreshura (The one guy in school who avoids love at all costs gets forces into a relationship by the hottest girl there. Now what?)
[*] One Week Friends (About a girl loses her memory every week, and the guy who just wants to be her friend)

Just started watching Toradora. The main character reminds me of me so much, especially the whole glare/RBF (Resting ***** Face) thing. I'm not that intimidating, but people often avoid me just because I don't seem like a friendly person (and yes, I would totally clean someone else's house if it was that messy lol)
50 episodes...I guess it'll keep me busy for a while XD

Anyone else judge an anime by its intro song?
I often find that a good intro song means a good anime, but I have never watched an anime that had a great intro but was a crap show.

It's because the action sequences are all 3D mech battles in space that look fantastic. At least, I enjoyed them.
And yes, I hated the 3D thing for the first few episodes too.

I usually just go to the popular tab to see what shows other people are currently watching. If you do end up liking it and get an actual subscription you should then start checking out the simulcasts as those are the ones that are the most current....but they come out once a week just like a TV show.
If you go into the details it'll show you how many episodes the anime has and a short description of it. I usually just browse through these and see if there's anything interesting and add it to my queue. I'll even go into the list of episodes just to look at the art style and the emotions of the characters to see it's similar to other shows that I liked.
This way you can avoid any of the continuous shows (like naruto, bleach, one piece) as they will all say they have 200+ episodes. It also allows you to get a general idea of the genre and such...
I have a list a few posts back that has my personal favorites so far on crunchyroll if you want to check that out.

There's a few shows that I need to watch through again. Just trying to catch up on the rest of the anime list I have right now... The main one off the top of my head is No Game No Life. I watched it as it was released and think it'll be better in one go rather than an episode per week.
It's like my backlog of PS3 games that I'm meaning to finish.

New one on Netflix:
Pyscho-Pass
Gets good around 10 episodes in. Essentially there's a system that people rely on which "judges" a person's emotional state in order to determine whether or not these people are going to commit crimes. It's a way a "prevent crime" I guess.
Centering around a sort of police force, so called "latent criminals" (basically people who will never be able to revvert back to a normal state of mind) are allowed to live a relatively normal life in exchange for their help to catch other criminals.
For me this was a good break from the usual stuff I watch.

I don't know if this answers your qestion entirely, but I like the shows that don't try and explain to you through the translation WHY one character is saying what they are saying.
At the same time, shows like Squid Girl can't easily make the same sort of jokes through a translation as they can by using an english dub.

I'm back!
Too lazy to go through the last couple of pages but this is my choice of the new fall anime that I will be following.
First of all, Trinity Seven is absolutely amazing. Yeah it's a harem anime, but holy **** that first episode? If there was a better way to start off an anime...oh wait, Parasyte was able to get my attention in the first 30 seconds. These ones deserves special mentioning just because I'm way too excited for them. Trinity Seven has the best main character of any anime ever it would seem.
(oh, I forgot to mention I just finished Nagi no Asukara...great stuff, very suprised to see where they went with it)
Terraformars - Looking to be the next in the line of Attack on Titan clones, but seems to be going at a bit of a slow pace. May actually drop this one but the insect/human thing keeps me curious.
When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace - Girls with superpowers, more harem...I just love silly animes like this. I'm glad they decided to do a jump to a few years later after the first initial person gets powers instead of spending 10 episodes slowing introducing them all.
Celestial Method - All the cutes...there's a big spaceship/saucer thing in the sky that no one really cares about anymore, and two girls want to do something about it or at least figure out why it's there
The Fruit of Grisaia - I didn't know what to think of this one, but the main guy is somewhat of a badass. He also has some secret plan for being at this school (of only girls?) and part of me hopes that he's serious about his motives for possibly killing people. Weird stuff.
I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying - Another funny short length show about a girl who marries an Otaku and just doesn't get him at all...but they still get along really well suprisingly.
Wolf Girl and Black Prince - Usually it's the girl that forces the guy to fake a relationship with her...and in this case it's true, except that this guy only agrees to it if the girl now does whatever he says. I didn't think I'd enjoy this one, but it's really entertaining to watch someone get what they deserve.

Jynx'D wrote:This season is amazing, incredible even. From the action, drama, romance, to the comedy. I will least the top of each genre this season has to offer using Hulu//Crunchyroll - I'm saving the rest for later, but I hear that Carnville show based in the world of Full Metal Panic is taking everyones hearts by storm. IDK much bout it yet, though.
Anywho:
Romance: You Lie In April - Art, that's what comes to mind when you watch this show, it's just so well done. With the way characters come off as almost half-ass drawn, it catches you off guard when you actually watch the show and see how fluid and beautiful the animation actually is. And the story behind it is just as powerful.
Drama: Yona of the Dawn - Ever seen one of those Korean shows about there history made in drama? If you have, you'll know how amazing they actually are. Deep in characters development and political intrigue, if you're a fan of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, you're typically a fan of these types of shows. But this one adds several genres to the mix, creating a wonderful tale with one of the most stunningly beautiful and charming female leads this season.
Comedy: I can't Understand What My Husband is Saying - LOL, this show is nuts in a tamed way, yet still nuts. This show would be just be considered bad comedy if the wife wasn't completely awesome, saving the show and making a lot of the laughs real. I would of chosen Twin Tails in this category - but I haven't seen enough of it yet, and ICUWMHIS is just lol
Action: Fate Stay Night - well this one was a no brainer, just watch episode 0 if you want to know what I'm talking about. It's probably the most beautiful choreographed fighting you'll ever see, and it's absolutely stunning to behold. And with an amazing story to back it - you'll enjoy every minute of this show.
Special Mentions: Fruit of Grisaia Parasyte SHIROBAKO Trinity Seven When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace
This is pretty much my lineup this fall. I'll have to go check out You Lie in April again I suppose

Just stop paying for netflix and get a subscription to crunchyroll.
Want to try it out for free for a month? Go to crunchyroll.com/sfnerd It's even an app for PS3/4 if that's what you watch on. I then recommend going to the "simulcasts" section or "popular" to see what other people are watching.
If you binge, you can probably finish at least a dozen shows before the month is over. Check through a few pages back in this thread to see some older lists if you need to.

Just started watching "Your Lie In April" as someone suggested it on here.
I have to say, it's the first show in a LONG time to have me constantly smiling. Also, I seriously need to look up the soundtrack for this thing. The music is just so beautiful, and I'm not really a big fan of this kind of stuff either.
All of the other shows have already been talked about for this season.
I guess I could bring up Akame ga Kill
In one of the last few episodes they killed off my favorite character of any anime ever. I don't usually feel so emotional about main character deaths (I actually think they bring a lot of excitement), but this one pissed me off.
It's sad to watch an anime about two opposing factions fighting for their own beliefs while the show gives you the perspective of both sides instead of just the good guys. They make you care about every individual character and try to connect you with them to the point that even watching the bad guys die makes you question who the evil ones are.

The fruit of Grisaia This show just got super interesting now that they have introduced all of the characters and respectove backstories. I hope it continues to get dark.
Wolf girl and black prince I don't usually like these kinds of shows, but definitely my kind of humor. The guy continues to be a **** yet this girl struggles so hard to like him...and then PLOT TWIST. Highly reccommend.

So I was looking through the anime I didn't watch this season and found a gem that I didn't expect.

Starts out seeming like just a generic ecchi/mech show, but there's a lot more to it than the first few episodes would have you expect. Yeah there's a lot of girl on girl stuff in here, but the show doesn't focus completely around it.
For a show dominated by boobs I'm surprised at how well they managed to make an interesting plot while still having time to define the characters. I've also never been a big fan of mech animes...fortunately the action sequences don't dominate over the plot either and are used strategically to either push the plot along or build on the characters more.

Btw, the funimation channel is now an app for PlayStation.
I went for a 14 day free trial so I can binge anime over the New Year that I've wanted to look into.y Would I pay another sub for this selection...eh probably not right now because the app doesn't even have a way to save shows to a queue right now, but seeing how I can watch it from my PlayStation and have access to a lot of shows Crunchyroll doesn't have I might as well take advantage of it now with the free time.

Don't judge me, lol.
As long as I don't get judged for constantly rewatching Sakura Trick
I'm generally a fan of over-the-top ecchi, as long as they can manage a decent plot as well (Highschool DxD, Rosario + Vampire, Trinity 7, Fruit of Grisaia...)
Seems quite good so far, although the MC really has the personality to much more confident than he actually is...
Although "How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend" is my favorite of the new ones this season.

I wouldn't say it's a super amazing romance story, but the plot goes from whiny children who don't understand love to "holy **** wtf did that seriously happen" when they go to the second season.
Wasn't a big fan of the ending, but I liked this anime mainly for just how beautiful it was. the art style is really fantastic.

blame the director for making the plot too obvious. I don't want her to die and know that's how they'll play it in the end.
The main guy is going to move on playing piano forever more while moping about her death and we'll likely get no true resolution about anything from any of the other characters other then life sucks without blondie but it'll get better... eventually.
amiright?
Literally just watched the last episode.
Idk sota, the fact that they explained what "Your lie in April" meant was decent enough for me. There are not many endings that I like when it comes to anime, but this one was pretty damn perfect.
Sure, I kinda figured what was going to happen...but they did leave a few surprises for the end I didn't expect that makes me want to re-watch the whole thing now.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to rewatch Sonico now. I'm impressed that nigri actually sounds how Sonico should sound. The manager is perfect too.
The biggest downside is that I'm pretty sure all of the songs in the show are sung by the voice actors for the characters In Japanese...which does break immersion a bit.
I don't want English versions of these songs, but part of what made Sonico great was how you'd get to hear the voice actors sing after each episode. This is similar to Love Live, or even Engaged to the Unidentified (the intto for that show omg), and it really connects you to the characters more.
That said, I could absolutely watch this in English. Great recommendation.

This is quite possibly the best show I've seen in a while. My favorite part being ut the romance after he removes the spirit, which makes it possible to include so many characters without any complicated love triangles.
Despite the art style, it still has a serious tone to it at times, and the soundtrack is fantastic.
I guess the quality is mainly because of it being produced by TV Tokyo, even having 3 seasons too.
Highly recommend this one. Instantly one of my top 10, if not top 5 for sure.

It's surprisingly good, especially if you are a fan of the music (like I am)
The only disappointing thing is how long it takes to unlock new songs (it is a F2P model), but it does offer daily downloadable tracks, and of course it has a surplus of cute anime girls to rank up and "idolize"
Compared to every other rhythm game app that I've tried, this is the only one that works well

I'm at rank 20 now, but I think I finally figured out how everything works. At first it was really confusing as to what the different values for the girls meant, and I didn't understand how my score was so low for some songs until I realized each song was a specific "type"
Although after looking online, the people who play this game are more dedicated than MMO players.
Right now I'm just trying to get as many of the "N" rank girls idolized and max bonded so I don't have to deal with them anymore.
Current Goal is to collect one of each of the honor students and complete No Brand Girls. Oh, and maybe get an idolized Nico
I thought I'd be instantly good at this game, but the fact that you need both skill AND rare cards is interesting.

It's such a shame that Marika is so foward, yet the other girls hold her back...only to shy away from Raku or kick him in the face for no reason.
Ugh.
At least Yamada-kun is doing it right. I think it's doing it right...
Crunchyroll has the entire manga online, so I got into that seeing how this is probably my favorite this season by far. Although looking at a recent poll of "best girls", the two from "my teen romantic comedy" are at the top of the list.
Maybe I'll reconsider the show now and watch more than 2 episodes.

You mean the "Subaru" anime about magical girls that ride "drive shafts" that make "engine sounds" in order to collect "engine parts" because some alien needs to fix his spaceship.
Yeah I thought it was hilarious and never watched past the second episode XD

So with 12 episodes of the second season of MTRC under my belt, I still don't see the appeal.
The romance is beat around the bush so many times There is less comedy in this show than your average shonen
I mean the only thing they get right is how teen "romance" is usually carried out...a bunch of stalling and held back thoughts, with constant regret and misunderstanding. To me, it's just not interesting or worthwhile. Sorry, I don't want to sit through 10 minutes of boring student council drama every episode. ______________________________________________________________________________
In other news With the final episodes coming up, here's my top picks for this season:
Action - Fate/Stay Night UBW Drama - The Eden of Grisaia Romance - Plastic Memories Comedy - Nisekoi Best Overall - Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches
Special Mention - Comical Psychosomatic Medicine

Toradora is currently 5th on my top 10 list, and I definitely haven't watched EVERYTHING out there so I'm bound to find more.
"Sakura Trick" and "Your Lie In April" are numbers 1 and 2 for romance above Toradora
The other two in my top 5 are "No Game No Life" and "The World God Only Knows"
Even further, "Watamote" and "Wolf Girl and Black Prince" are also rated above it for me personally (even if not technically in my top 5) simply because I relate to them more and remind me specifically about people in my life...
Toradora does hold a very VERY special place in my heart for the "again" scene. Not many shows out there get that sort of thing right.

Fristname Family name wrote:Heyy Shayz... we should squad up someday or skype or something. I wanna make a AMV. Could we all get a rundown on what program you personally use for making one and steps of planning ect?
Uh, I just used windows movie maker lol
It's the most recent "live" version that has the option to load in videos without compressing them...but other than that I don't use anything complicated or fancy.
I don't even know if it's right to call what I did an AMV, but it's similar enough to an actual one. When I think AMV I think a song with scenes from the anime shown specifically to reflect the emotions of the song at that current point. ____________________________________________________
First you need source material (technically the illegal part where you record or rip what you want...it's easier for me since all I have to do is record 1080p from my PS3 while playing crunchyroll. If you really feel like being cheap you can just download youtube videos)
You add the video to Movie Maker, then reduce the video volume to 0.
Next find a song (preferably one that isn't popular or won't end up blocking your video because of copyright).
Then all you have to do is line up the clips to the audio. There are plenty of movie maker tutorials if you don't know how to use the program, but basically there is a line that you can move through the string of video to choose where exactly to cut it. Once cut, you then have two separate strings of video.
You cut the video up into the clips you want, delete the excess, and constantly play back the video until it looks the way you want it to look.
Finally you export it, which depending on your computer and length of video and detail...can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 hours. Figuring out the best settings for exporting is also something you should look up a tutorial about...but there should be an option that says "for high definition displays" and that will work just fine (unless you have a crap computer then maybe it isn't the best option)
It's not easy, it takes a lot of time, but I will say it's probably easier to learn than Dust 514.

O.O
That show has crazy escalation. It doesn't particularly boast the best story of all time, but it does make it interesting.
it does get a tad boring at times as the girls predictably respond to most scenario's, but there are some exceptions, like the loli, she's hilarious with her harsh language at times.
What really drove this story was the last ark, and the longest. It was pretty intense, and even knowing the outcome it made you wonder which way it would all go down.
Each resolution was pretty plain, somewhat unbelievable. But it was still a good watch and i'll look forward to season 2.
also the ecchi in this show was great, lol, i admit i enjoy some ecchi in my show, and this show honestly spent very little time showing ecchi, but when it did, lmao, :3
The second season already finished, and I'm probably going to go find the Visual Novel for this now. Grisaia definitely pushes the limits when it comes to mature content, but it does it in a creative and artistic way.
The second season has less ecchi, but gives the rest of the characters proper backstory. The ending is decent, but definitely not bad. Kinda hoping for some OVAs if there aren't any already.

Thanks, ahead of time, for any suggestions.
I've only ever watched a handful of these, but here's my suggestions:
(btw, if you don't like subtitles, I highly recommend NOT getting Crunchyroll)
-Fate/Zero or Fate/stay Night (Netflix) -Knights of Sydonia (If you can ignore the horrible animation in the first few episodes, Netflix) -Akame ga Kill (Hulu) -Cross Ange (if you can get past the copious amounts of boobs, Hulu) -The Fruit of Grisaia (again another heavy ecchi title, Hulu) -Darker than Black (Hulu) -Death Parade (Hulu)
Not sure about english dubs, but I know that if it's on Netflix, 90% of the time it has an english dub...
Death Parade I know for a fact doesn't have an english dub but let me tell you right now that you will absolutely have your face glued to the screen anyways when it comes to this show. It's just that good. ________________________________________________________
Here's a brief summary of the rest of them:
Fate/ series: historical figures are summoned back to the present to fight in the holy grail wars, a game of masters and servants each with different abilities (Saber, Archer, Caster, Rider, etc)
Knights of Sydonia: Attack on Titan...in space (the whole thing is 3D modeled, so the character animations are somewhat weird)
Akame ga Kill: literally anyone can die, even your favorite character. (there's a bunch of these "imperial arms" that must be destroyed, and each character on the good and bad side has a different weapon)
Cross Ange: The princess Angelise gets taken away to a military camp far outside the city where they have to fight off dragons to protect the city because she was not able to use mana. She changes drastically as a character, but then there's the biggest plot twist that literally blows your mind about halfway through (if you can get past all the lesbian girl on girl gundam action)
Fruit/Eden of Grisaia: assassin dude goes to a secluded school for girls that have a wide variety of issues because of traumatic experiences in their life. After harem time in fruit of grisaia, eden of grisaia develops the guy's backstory as well as furthering the plot after the events in the first season (despite sounding like your typical anime, this one gets really dark and each character is surprisingly mature)
Darker than Black: After some weird **** happens in tokyo, a bunch of people develop super powers in exchange for having to "pay the price" each time they use them (some sort of compulsory habit). These "contractors" are hired by different factions to either commit crimes or hunt other contractors.
Death Parade: two people arrive in an evevator to a small room with a bar where they have no recollection of what they were doing beforehand. The barkeeper asks them to play a game that determines the fate of the two players. OH AND THIS SHOW HAS THE BEST MISLEADING OPENING OF ALL TIME: https://youtu.be/UjjTMNDZi-A

Holy **** If you haven't watched Food Wars, do it. NOW
Thw first few episodes were kinda uninteresting and there was too much ecchi than I would prefer so I kinda assumed that's how the whole show would be (something similar to gourmet girl graffiti from last season)
NOT EVEN CLOSE
Idk which episode it is introduced in, but the idea behind "food wars" is that in order to settle a conflict, you can challenge anyone to a shokugeki, which is basically just a formalized cook-off.
The main character Souma, being the confident type he is, gets carried away with the ability to challenge people and there's a lot of "no way, did that seriously just happen?" moments all over the place.
Of course, Souma's voice actor is the same guy as Kirito, Bell, and Sora...which actually fits quite well as I would compare this anime to about the same quality as No Game No Life.
I mean, even the same general plotline is similar. Intelligent guy starts from nothing and works his way up on his way to challenge the god of the world he is in. The basis being that in order to get anywhere you must challenge other people according to the rules of that world.
Great stuff. Not sure if it beats out Yamada-kun (the last episode isn't out for another 4 hours) but it was definitely right up my alley and will find a spot in my top 10

Have to say I'm pretty pleased with how things went; the ending leaves enough plotlines dangling to justify a third season while at the same time answering enough questions to bring closure should a new season never come. Have to admit that it's hard to get past the style of animation used (every character is rather ugly) but the fighting is well done. Show manages to find a suitable amount of romance without falling into the harem trope and adds a few touches of humor here and there.

I think the first one for me was Soul Eater dubbed. We then watched FMA all the way through and after that I just wanted to watch everything on Netflix.
Heaven's Lost Property, Attack on Titan, Rosario...
That's around the time when one of my youtube subs talked about Crunchyroll and offered a 30 day free trial. Upon downloading I binge watched all of SAO, Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann...
Which was about when I found this thread on the forums and got all sorts of recommendations from you guys about past seasons.
Now I literally spend more time watching anime than I do anything else, I don't have a girlfriend anymore, and 2D women are my life. I have turned into my ex

I will be straight up and say that I find most hentai to be too repetitive. There are the few exceptions that are creative, but so much **** out there is just some cheesy excuse for a plot and then three, 15 second repeated animation sequences.
Then again, back when I was dating my ex we would try and find the most ****** up tentacle-**** hentai just for kicks. The stuff is a lot more funny when you try to take it seriously.
I would rather watch something like 'Sakura Trick', 'Gourmet Girl Graffiti', 'Seikon no Qwaser' or 'High School DxD'... than hentai
Although Aki-Sora (despite being incest), is better at being "animated ****" than 99% of hentai out there. I'm not trying to defend it or say it's good, but from an objective standpoint it does create a realistic bond between the characters that even normal **** doesn't have. It also doesn't involve that unrealistic "exaggeration" you usually see in hentai, nor does it actually focus on the act itself.
AGAIN I will bring up No Game No Life to conclude that proper ecchi can be 100x better than **** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXSLuNRoix8

The way I see it, they're all a bunch of kids. They see her delusion similar to a kid that believes in Santa, and instead of thinking logically about it, they would rather just see her happy.
Which is why the character Megu-nee (I like sakura-sensei better :P) is so important. If she wasn't there for Yuki then maybe the others would step in and take that place...but they understand that everyone has their own way of coping, which is why they thank Megu-nee every time she helps out. If something ever happened to sakura-sensei, Yuki's state would probably get worse.
The whole 'ignorance is bliss' thing.
Then again I really want this show to focus on cute girls doing cute things. Maybe it's just me but I really like the contrast of going from "nummy bars" to "shovel time" to "wow she really wanted senpai to notice her huh". There's just so much emotion jam packed into a single episode that makes you instantly connected to the characters involved. ...
Side note: Knockers totally has a thing for Bookworm, and I ship it.

Really wanted it to be cool but I guess It's better as a Manga, and overall wish I hadn't picked it up in the first place.

Oh also, Umaru is literally an anime adaptation of the 3 year relationship with my ex
Someone everyone looked up to outside of the house, but an absolute slob and extremely lazy when she's not around anyone. Except you don't mind it because she's adorable, even if she only puts junk food in the shopping cart and acts like a 7 year old half the time.
And yes, she even wore an orange kigu.

I've almost quit anime before because I've seen series that I feel will never be surpassed. However, if this actually gets done correctly it'd probably make me quit life. Because honestly, there'd just be nothing that would ever be able to top it.
I like Anime better than TV because I don't have to have any special recording devices to watch it whenever I want, and I don't have to pay more than $7 per month for it.
The biggest downside of anime is that you have to get invested in it. At least, that's what a lot of my friends say. With things like Family Guy you can watch as little or as much as you like. There is no order to it, and each episode makes sure to reset so that the series can go on forever.
Personally Anime to me is more comparable to movies than TV. Yeah there are certain series out there that have compelling stories with live action stuff (Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, etc), but American television just seems so ridiculous all the time.
Anime also seems to have more related shows and content. As in, I can find another 4-5 similar shows after watching something I like rather than having to wait a whole week for the next episode of an american show because there isn't anything else out like it.
Even if you find a show that seems so much better than everything else, there's a good probability that something else will come out next season that is at least as decent. And even then, sometimes a show pops up that you weren't expecting to like that you find enjoying in a different way.

Simple answer is it takes more effort.
I've seen a few shows that add in the characters into the OP as the characters are met through the show...but I don't find it as much of a spoiler.

Here's what I got out of the show so far:
The snake girl has big boobs The harpy has little boobs The centaur has boobs that are so big they smack her in the face as she runs around
And the MC shows how annoying it is to deal with monster girls instead of being all "yeah harem time!" that's the funny part.
Oh, and it has a great OP.

Finally got around to watching Madoka Magica
Intial reaction:
Episode 1>Okay this show is creepy, but I dont get what people find so great about it Episode 3>Well that was unexpected, but at the same time I did expect it because the show started out so damn creepy already. Episode 6>These girls are making their situation a much bigger deal than it really is Episode 7>Over halfway through, main girl still isn't a magical girl, and side chick is now crazy.
Gonna finish it tonight, keeping my expectations high despite my instincts telling me that I'm only going to be disappointed.
I feel like it would be a much better show if the first couple episodes were super happy fun time, instead of trippy worlds and creepy characters that never smile.
Akame ga Kill and School Live did a really good job of this, but Madoka didn't

This is not simply a show you can just pass up. Heck, the Shitori episode is absolutely a must watch, if you absolutely have no time to watch the whole season. And the 'Fake End' episode? Absolutely ******* brilliant.
It's a show that while able to be funny and have its moments of fanservice, can still be serious and make you think.
While I do agree that there wasn't much character development, the scope of the whole story is way bigger than just taking over the animal girl kingdom XD
Their ultimate goal is to take on the god of that world...and to me that's like only looking at the first 12 episodes of Death Note. I guess I do rate it higher based on what it could be, but the art style and large variety of interesting elements all put together beautifully are what I absolutely love.

Basically it's about a princess who is taken away to a girls only military camp to fight off dragons...and how she changes as a person after finding out what's really going on outside the city walls.
At one point in the show the MC questions why they have to wear such skimpy outfits and she is met with a pretty convincing argument. Heck, every scene with some form of nudity or sexual content has a reason to be there.

It's not so much a word, but if the picture has anything to do with sports, monster battle card games, mechs, fighting (shonen), or Yaoi, I won't even give it a chance.
I tend to go for the colorful ones that have plenty of fun lookimg characters. I'm also extremely judgemental when it comes to bad art because I can't stand watching a show (even if it's good) if the characters look ********.

Although both versions are extremely tame compared to what I've seen of the manga...

Suggestion for your video series:
Since you already have so many written reviews on the forums, you can always just do audio versions of said reviews by using them as scripts.
To start out a bit at least

+1 Sota
That was simply outstanding, definitely looking forward to more video reviews Reading straight from the script isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as your content is already well written
The only time a script isn't as important is with reaction videos or quick impressions. Just make sure you limit the things you want to talk about so you can stay on point (I have a hard time with this as sometimes I like to talk about one thing for way too long and before I know it my video is 20 minutes instead of 7 or 8)

I am 3 episodes into Code Geass and loving it so far but... It's the only show that isn't on Crunchyroll, Funimation, or Netflix, and that makes it difficult to remember to watch it lol
So I'll get around to it eventually
As for SNAFU, I really don't find the appeal that other people seem to have for it. Maybe it's because of how realistic it is? Most slice of life shows have some unique aspect about them, at least.
If it was actually a romantic comedy like Toradora I'd have more positive things to say about it, but I felt dissatisfied after two seasons of "school life" with a final episode of things finally getting interesting :/
Different tastes, like how Everything Dies gave No Game No Life a 6/10...

So I just watched Overlord from last season and omg they actually managed to get a MMO anime right for once.
The "I'm gonna need to cast all my buffs before we start the battle" scene was what drew me in to the show. https://youtu.be/6dxICJHd518
My favorite part is just how overpowered he is compared to everything There's another scene where the enemy uses an 8th tier god crystal on him, and he simply remarks "Ah yes, so this is what it feels like to take damage!"

Not a ton of stuff I was interested in this season sadly. Asterisk War has the best soundtrack, and Hackadoll is the one I'm enjoying most.

I kinda wish Crunchyroll had a "sort by best overall rating", but unfortunately it doesn't so I got bored and decided to manually sort them out by the percentage of 5 star ratings each show had.
(keep in mind that this list is biased based only on the shows in my queue, and does not include every single show on crunchyroll. Shows with less than 100 reviews are in the honorable mentions)
Top 10: Gurren Lagann Your Lie In April The Pet Girl of Sakurasou (this surprised me) Madoka Magica Fate/Zero Blue Spring Ride (also surprising) Attack On Titan Toradora Parasyte Food Wars
Runners Up (11-20): No Game No Life The World God Only Knows Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon Nagi no Asukara Squid Girl Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches Fate/Stay Night UBW Angel Beats Kill la Kill Golden Time
Honorable Mentions Chi's Sweet Home (would have the 4th spot but it's a 3 minute kid's show with 100 episodes) Non Non Byori (less than 100 reviews) Kinmoza (same) One Week Friends (same) Digimon Tri (same, but this is only the first movie of 6) Monogatari series (variable ratings with each season, but not many in total, most by die hard fans)
Sword Art Online (was #21)

It's on the same level as "Soul Eater Not" or "Attack on Titan Junior High"
They are essentially spinoffs that use the names and likeness of characters in the main show, but have a drastically different or unrelated plot.
Fate/kaleid is a chibi yuri magical girl version of the Fate series...while the Fate Series is about a bunch of MMO-class versions of historical figures summoned by humans to fight for the Holy Grail

Kail Mako wrote:Do you guys watch shows as they air, or do you prefer to wait until they've finished airing, and marathon them?
Depends on my mood at the time, and the type of show
I really like Miss Monochrome and Hackadoll because they are 8 minutes per episode and don't have a super important plotline.
Even shows like Nisekoi were fun to watch every week because while there was plot, you could still enjoy it no matter what order you watch the episodes in.
The problem with plot driven shows is that I seem to enjoy them way more when I can binge them in a few days while everything is fresh in my memory. If I have to split it up in the course of 2-3 months I tend to forget smaller details and feel like I need to rewatch the entire thing again.
So usually what I do is spend the first few weeks of a season going through the shows and figuring out which ones I want to save for a later binge, and which ones end up becoming boring.

I watched it for the first time just a few months ago. There's some hidden meanings behind it...kindasorta. The movie itself wasn't super interesting to me tbh, but it's really not supposed to be "good" in the sense of "wow it has a compelling plotline"
Instead It's more of an artistic marvel that immerses you in a world where nothing really makes sense unless you want to have it make sense (hence the whole hidden meanings thing)
Take that as you will.

1. None of the numbered final fantasy games are related. Some of them are in the same universe, or are extensions of the story based on the main numbered game, but FF13 isn't going to have anything to do with FF7, FF1, or FF12
2. That said, I encourage you to play the game with Japanese voices and subtitles. Reading dialogue makes the story much easier to understand as it is a bit confusing the first time through (plus Vanille is 100x more adorable in Japanese. They even pronounce her name as "bahn-eer-ah", as a sort of "engrish" sounding "vanilla", instead of the god awful "vah-NEEL" in English)
3. A lot of people criticize this game for being so straight forward for the first 20 hours or so. I recommend just enjoying the ride if you plan on finishing the game. It's a beautiful game with some of the best music from any game. Part of the reason that section sucks is that you aren't allowed to change up your party members, and you only get two of them at a time. After that long section, the game opens up and lets you use everything you've learned up to that point.
4. As for the battle system, the one thing you should know is that you need to switch paradigms constantly. Not only does this occasionally refill your ATB guage, but it can make a battle go from minutes to seconds. Here's an example of what your average fight would consist of: >Buff/Debuff >Build chain gauges until stagger (at least 2 RAVs) >Deal as much damage as possible (at least 2 COMs) >Is health in the red? Switch to COM, RAV, MED >Are your buffs gone? Rebuff >If not? Repeat from step 2
5. Level your characters according to what they are good at (don't be an idiot like me and make lightning a medic and Sazh a commando) Fang - Commando, Saboteur Lightning - Ravager, Commando Hope - Medic, Ravager Snow - Sentinel, Commando Sazh - Synergist, Ravager Vanille - Saboteur, Medic

Really want to watch My Romantic Comedy SNAFU.
I also need to watch the second season of Spice and Wolf... But honestly that show was a little slow for me.
The ecchii/fanservice in Pet Girl dies down a lot through the series. Part of me thinks that it was simply a strategy to keep viewers hooked so they wouldn't drop it by the time the show takes a serious turn and can keep people engaged with strong emotions instead of boobs and humor. There's barely any of it, if any at all, in the final few episodes.
