Okay, so I'm thinking back on some of the other shows that I've watched and it's quite obvious that I have a thing for harem anime...and that has me thinking: Are there any shows like Shuffle? That series really stands out to me as the only one where there is a clear trajectory with the storyline: boy meets girl, boy meets more girls, girls come together as a harem and then--and this is where Shuffle stands apart--the boy clearly and distinctly makes his "choice" of which girl he wants to take as his partner, even at the risk of upsetting the balance of the harem. Can't think of any other harem series that I've watched where a group of contestants emerges before the "hero" makes his choice; many, such as the To Love Ru series, focus more on the hijinks that happen with a harem and don't really push things towards a decisive conclusion and make it clear that the girls are happy as a harem. Others, such as Rosario Vampire, make it clear that there is a "favorite" girl that story revolves around with the formation of a harem to add humor to the storyline. But Shuffle...that one really sticks out to me. Not only does it have an honest-to-goodness competition amongst the harem members, but the "hero" of the story actually becomes (painfully) aware that that accumulation and enjoyment of a harem will ultimately result in the hurting of the harem members, moreso as his indecisiveness continues. Thank God the hero picks the girl that I liked the most!

very few harems can even be considered half good. Eden of Grisiaia is probably the only other exception besides Shuffle! to the harem formula not falling flat.

and I'm not a fan of Rosario Vampire, the plot line was both rushed and was mostly useless content that didn't progress any plots what so ever. I'm glad that I watched Rosario when I did. Looking back, it makes for a good "introductory" harem anime--a pretty light-hearted romp that only gets serious at the very end--and I'd equate it with being a "teen flick." The premise behind the show, however, could really have been something special if they'd taken it more seriously.
On a side note, I have to admit that I'm getting tired of the whole "sister as a potential love interest" trope. It's one thing to treat it like My Sister is Among Them! does (as something the hero is actively trying to avoid) but throwing it into something like Infinite Stratos just feels forced. The show is centered around the little brother trying to live up to the legacy of his strong, powerful older sister...so why try and introduce romantic feelings into the scenario?

Nisekoi was one I had noticed earlier and thought about giving it a try. Just from the description, it seems as though it will be somewhat similar to My Bride is a Mermaid. This may be tonight's pick!

Want to know more about the people behind Nisekoi? Check out Awakawa Under the Bridge, Bakemontagari, Nisemontagari, or Sansazbou Sensei *This show is so ******* nuty it's amazing, and is a harem lmao*
Basically - Shaft Animation Studios is a giant of an animation company, every show they've touch turns to gold. Nisekoi is probably the weakest hit, and it's a bigger hit then most. |

I sincerely hope that Season 4 continues the focus on Momo, and not just for the simple fact that she's my favorite--she's easily the most well-developed (no, not in that way!) character of them all...and it's all for one simple reason: the final episode of season 3. We spend the entire season with her being presented as a generic sex kitten that desires the hero and will do whatever it takes to have him (i.e. creating the harem plan) but in that last episode...damn. The simple scene with her and Rito alone together and the chance to finally achieve her goals reveals more about her character than the entire series did for any other character; Momo is exposed as being an innocent/naive girl that is actually discovering what love really is, and that it's far more complicated than she ever imagined. Too many harem shows focus on the absurd/convenient usage of scenarios to try and force character development, but in this scene we finally see the "true" Momo. A similar thing happens with Risa. Relegated to being little more than the lewd friend of Sairenji, she serves no purpose other than to complicate matters for Rito by constantly embarrassing him and/or making sexual advances. She is, for all purposes, a one-dimensional character and nothing more than a comedic prop to be used at the creator's whim. Until, that is, she is given her one moment to shine...and all it takes to give her some depth is to show her worrying by the phone, hoping that Rito will call her. The viewer is finally being shown--and not told--that there is more to her character than is being let on. Honestly, I think that's why I love the To Love Ru series so much; there's actual character growth happening. Oddly enough, the "main" characters (Lala and Sairenji) are probably in danger of becoming the least-developed characters as the focus remains on the newer characters. Hope to see either a. the two of them be given further chances to develop, or b. remain as they are, and actually remain as more of background characters. What I don't want is to see the creators try and force any storylines to make us care more/less about them.

Man, I'm going to have start writing down all of these recommendations! If only there existed some sort of forum topic that contained a list...a list of anime...but only the good ones.
Going to take a chance and start watching Princess Resurrection tonight. It was under the "you might like" section in one of those shows you linked to earlier. Hoping for a good comedy!

the next 2 seasons after are just romantic fluff. it's like Hayate the Combat Butler, but more reliant on perversion and less on humor. |

and I'm not a fan of Rosario Vampire, the plot line was both rushed and was mostly useless content that didn't progress any plots what so ever.
You should really read the Rosario+ Vampire manga, its *great* and gets pretty serious despite harem elements.

I honestly felt Rosario Vampire was more of a cartoon than an Anime.
TBH, the brother/sister thing is overused. If everyone is doing it it takes the "forbidden fruit" element out, which is the only real appeal to that sort of "relationship".

My start was officially sailor moon back in 95 when I was a young-un because YTV programming in Canada, I was already a fantasy nerd though as my first real console was the snes with secret of mana, my other hyper important game was "one must fall 2097", I used to bring giant sheets of paper to school to draw robots. Then there was a ton of other stuff like samurai pizza cats, digimon, pokemon, power rangers (not anime but it counts damnit!). I got really hooked when I saw escaflowne for the first time cause it pressed all my buttons (fantasy setting with giant fighting robots? Holy crap), and I really loved dbz, but I wasn't allowed to stay up late enough to watch gundam wing.
One of my close friends got really into samurai x/rurouni kenshin and I caught a few ovas on kazaa, but other than that I can't remember much of what I watched around this time (diablo 2 addiction kicked in). I ended up getting somewhat invested in inu yasha buf had to start downloading episodes as it went off air pretty early, I stopped at around episode 25 as seeds were unreliable (well before BitTorrent). Ended up getting introduced to hellsing by a friend.
Then I kind of started consuming whatever I could get ahold of, from trinity blood, to grenadier, to weirder stuff like magical twilight. Also found h-games like true love & Sakura season(?).

gotta admit my biggest issue with translation is spice and wolf related, the sub i watched had her name as "Horo" but whenever i see a spice and wolf discussion there's a bunch of people calling her "Holo", it really annoys me. Horo is how it's pronounced, Holo is how it's spelt. It's weird, but how the author made it, so it ****** with translators, lol. It's like this because in Japan "L" and "R" pretty much just make the same sound. Same for "B" and "V." It's why you end up with Engrish. It'd be like if suddenly we decided we no longer needed the letter "X". Our words would be pronounced the same, we'd just spell the words differently.

I will be straight up and say that I find most hentai to be too repetitive. There are the few exceptions that are creative, but so much **** out there is just some cheesy excuse for a plot and then three, 15 second repeated animation sequences.
Then again, back when I was dating my ex we would try and find the most ****** up tentacle-**** hentai just for kicks. The stuff is a lot more funny when you try to take it seriously.
I would rather watch something like 'Sakura Trick', 'Gourmet Girl Graffiti', 'Seikon no Qwaser' or 'High School DxD'... than hentai
Although Aki-Sora (despite being incest), is better at being "animated ****" than 99% of hentai out there. I'm not trying to defend it or say it's good, but from an objective standpoint it does create a realistic bond between the characters that even normal **** doesn't have. It also doesn't involve that unrealistic "exaggeration" you usually see in hentai, nor does it actually focus on the act itself.
AGAIN I will bring up No Game No Life to conclude that proper ecchi can be 100x better than **** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXSLuNRoix8
