I am not sure if Tenchi Muyo War on Geminar qualifies. However, it does have sacred mechanoids so it may be to your liking.

SoTa PoP wrote:I re-watched SAO and Log Horizon to finally judge the two and see the difference qualities.
SAO is definitely a rushed show in comparison to LH smooth progression. But rushed or not, SAO delivers on characters and depths, where Log Horizon characters are mostly shallow with just hints of more. But LH character are more enjoyable to watch
But plot is where LH shines after SAO stumbles half way. The strong romance and value of human life in SAO pushes the show strongly forward, where as Log Horizon is about a not-so-average dedicated player using his vast knowledge and intellect to pave a way forward and show how blurry good and evil is.
SAO would of won in probably every category if they would of ended it at 14-15 episodes. As rushed as the first 6-7 episodes are, they're enjoyable, and sometime emotional. But as soon as the epic tale hits half way, it blind sides itself by falling down the most generic of plots and destroying the major driving factor for the story's romance. Turning the show into a grind to see the moment you want.
Log Horizon on the other hand never falters in it's plot, in fact, quite the opposite. It gets better with each episode by leaps. Going from a tale of a single adventurer to a tale of nations, done in the most interesting way possible for a gamer like us to enjoy. But the plot mostly centers around a neutral like character often perceived as evil who plays a support role. He shows everyone reality of player interaction, and why even support role characters can shine like any other favorited class. He's also a known strategist, and uses his ability to bring people together on there own. It's a brilliant show, but as well told as it is it lacks one major thing - Emotion.
Far as animation and voice actors go - SAO wins hands down by leaps and bounds. Though Log Horizons sound track is more enjoyable.
Ultimately, SAO delivers a more emotional show that'll draw you into the story. Where as Log Horizon is less personal and more political. Depending on taste you could easily say one is better then the other, but as a person who enjoys being drawn in, SAO ultimately wins for me.
This man knows his anime so well he even studies it. Props Sota.

Maybe its the depression the main guy constantly goes through while everything else is so happy? And Bryhidlr... from the creators of Elfen Lied. At first I was like, really? Episode one rolls on by and I was meh. Then episode 2 comes a long... They're still on going if I'm not mistaken? Except Nisekoi. And quite a few start in what a week or 2? Yup, some already start in a week. Sailor Moon incoming!!!! :3 and SAO Season 2, which we all expect to flop lol Looking forward to Sailor Moon. Finished watching the dub to Toradora, only 6 episodes out, the rest will be released in the coming months as the Blu-ray releases. My opinion? YAY THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB!
:3 I prefer subs The problem I find with subs is you don't always get to appreciate the animation value, because your reading. With dubs, you get the best of both worlds. Problem being, most dubs suck bad. But Toradora is done well :3 Start learning Japanese! After watching so much anime you're sure to learn a few things. Though I will admit there are some good dubs out there.

I trust your opinion of anime, good sir, so let me know if that is one I should watch or just bypass. Hard to judge that one, it comes off really weird, even though it's innocent. It's basically a drama/slice of life, where a young man in college sister dies on him. She had her own family, and he had deep, fond memories of her. So he takes up her kids himself, but being a struggling college student is rough. The show puts more focus on the girls adaptation and cute/appeal as well as pedo/shojou jokes. It'll appeal to Slice of Life lovers and pedos lol Personally, I'm a huge slice of life lover, and enjoyed watching the girls put on a strong face as there life crumbles around them. Eventually, no amount of good spirit can surpass the limitation of the human body and society standards.
saw the first episdoe, that is a fairly accurate review of it. impressed as always with your knowledge of anime.

Fairy Tail rarely disappoints. So far Haganai is a blast. Vuduu only had the English dub version but it works fine. I recognize some of the voices. The dude is the voice of Lyon from Fairy Tail and Sena is the voice of Carla from Fairy Tail and Empress Lashara from War on Geminar. Rikka is the same voice as Himeji from Baka and Test.

All the previous books were only weeks apart... so if book 4 is also weeks away. ( I am talking about in anime time, not RL time) Then we will definately be seeing more of korra in her wheelchair and more of her depression.
the whole kora series is depressing. it is just not as good as the original avatar. i could never get into it. without sokka the series just blows.

I don't know if this answers your qestion entirely, but I like the shows that don't try and explain to you through the translation WHY one character is saying what they are saying. At the same time, shows like Squid Girl can't easily make the same sort of jokes through a translation as they can by using an english dub. I hate shows that act like you are ******** and think you can't listen between the lines so to speak or remember what they just said 5 minutes ago. No need to repeat the same dialog or narrate all your actions. I also hate shows where they have a 30 second fight scene then spend 5 minutes talking. So you just exclusively watch AMVs? I jest... So, you liked Kill La Kill but don't like Sword Art Online? (For example?)
Kill La Kill was funny SAO was not.

There's a difference between posting basic descriptions of the world and posting about an event meant to be one of the more shocking moments of a series. You see the difference I hope? Welcome to the internet. Bullshit. I don't accept this in the slightest. I've been on forums and interacted with communities that know how to deal with spoilers. We don't have to model ourselves like the Youtube comment system to have a conversation about anime and we should be doing a lot more to self regulate ourselves in terms of spoilers.

SoTa Senpai wrote:Foundation Seldon wrote:*Fairy Tail Spoilers Fairy Tail Spoilers* *Fairy Tail Spoilers Fairy Tail Spoilers* *Fairy Tail Spoilers Fairy Tail Spoilers*
See I actually think that Fairy Tail's opening arcs are probably its strongest and that sometime after they met the Metal Dragonslayer (in fact immediately after) the quality of the manga went downhill. How many times did they "power of friendship" their way through the battle with the death dragon thing on that random island? How many times were they beaten down senselessly only to get back up with willpower in a single battle? I think at that point I was seriously considering dropping but I was interested to see where the author was going to take the story after the time skip.
And then instead of dealing with the consequences of Fairy Tail being totally outclassed by new guilds they instead throw a DBZ Plot Guru in our way and "unlock the potential" of our heroes and heroines. I noped my way out the door and never looked back. You cannot watch a show like Fairy Tail and not expect 'unlocked' powers. And I can tell it isn't really a problem for you, since you enjoyed the Iron Dragon, pinky gets powered up by red head before he engaged that 'revealed his hidden potential' revealing a fire dragon surrounding him. If the enemies get tougher, the good guys need to get tougher too. And it's the ark right after Iron Dragon I fell for - Leo's short story was very enjoyable, watching him open up and Lucy share the companionship the other instilled in her from the Iron Dragon ark was wonderful. The story itself, if that's your focus, is completely cliche. I have seen these stories before a million times already, even the island village. *Black Star Naru anyone?* But let's be real - anime stories completely rely on characters rather then plot to build interest and move a story along. And Fairy Tails characters all shine. I can't name any that annoy. And I felt true emotion for so many of the characters in the Dragon Iron Ark I was surprised. Everyone from the card girl to the guy with the smokes - all of them opened up and cried there own tears for there own reasons loving those around them in there own way that doesn't feel like it's there to fit a cliche personality.
Dont be dissing my girl Cana Alberona or Gildarts will kick your ass. Not to mention she has big boobs and likes to drink.

Jynx'D wrote:This season is amazing, incredible even. From the action, drama, romance, to the comedy. I will least the top of each genre this season has to offer using Hulu//Crunchyroll - I'm saving the rest for later, but I hear that Carnville show based in the world of Full Metal Panic is taking everyones hearts by storm. IDK much bout it yet, though.
Anywho:
Romance: You Lie In April - Art, that's what comes to mind when you watch this show, it's just so well done. With the way characters come off as almost half-ass drawn, it catches you off guard when you actually watch the show and see how fluid and beautiful the animation actually is. And the story behind it is just as powerful.
Drama: Yona of the Dawn - Ever seen one of those Korean shows about there history made in drama? If you have, you'll know how amazing they actually are. Deep in characters development and political intrigue, if you're a fan of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, you're typically a fan of these types of shows. But this one adds several genres to the mix, creating a wonderful tale with one of the most stunningly beautiful and charming female leads this season.
Comedy: I can't Understand What My Husband is Saying - LOL, this show is nuts in a tamed way, yet still nuts. This show would be just be considered bad comedy if the wife wasn't completely awesome, saving the show and making a lot of the laughs real. I would of chosen Twin Tails in this category - but I haven't seen enough of it yet, and ICUWMHIS is just lol
Action: Fate Stay Night - well this one was a no brainer, just watch episode 0 if you want to know what I'm talking about. It's probably the most beautiful choreographed fighting you'll ever see, and it's absolutely stunning to behold. And with an amazing story to back it - you'll enjoy every minute of this show.
Special Mentions: Fruit of Grisaia Parasyte SHIROBAKO Trinity Seven When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace
I just wish the episodes of the wife show were longer.
The super natural battles show is a riot.

Want to try it out for free for a month? Go to crunchyroll.com/sfnerd It's even an app for PS3/4 if that's what you watch on. I then recommend going to the "simulcasts" section or "popular" to see what other people are watching.
If you binge, you can probably finish at least a dozen shows before the month is over. Check through a few pages back in this thread to see some older lists if you need to.
not to mention crunchyroll is real cheap and easy to use. sometimes it does not want to work right on the ps4 or ps3 and that gets annoying, but otherwise, it has been well worth it. especially for the new shows like trinity seven. |

Jynx'D wrote:***WARNING: WATCH THIS SHOW AT OWN PERIL. ******
So I watched a show considered taboo here in the States - Kokomo No Jikan.
If you don't know about this show - it reigns as king of the loli perverts. And it deserves that title well, there are so many loli and underaged sex jokes that you start to wonder if the show is even taking itself seriously. Though the theme is taboo'd - I couldn't help but laugh. Some of these lines are just too damn funny coming from an underaged mouth - and what adds to it is that you understand from episode 1 that these kids have a very adult understanding of things. They aren't just trying to be cute - they're articulating these things to come off the way it does, often using it to manipulate a situation.
But take a step back from loli/underaged theme and examine the plot - it starts off STRANGE. By strange, I mean I can't tell if it starts off really, really strong, or it starts off on a horrible note. I honestly can't tell.
The first few moments set the loli ecchi pace quickly, walking into a classroom filled with young naked girls screaming being the way the MC is introduced to us. He's the typical MC - capable but aloof, smart but overthinking, just a generic MC, really.
But then there's the main female lead - Kokonoe. She's anything but generic. I won't say much about her as revealing who she is is a part of the plot, but I will say episode 6 made me both rage and cry. She is an extrodinary character - akin to Holo from Spice and Wolf.
The plot is surpringly deep at times, and with Kokonoe appearing majority of the screen time, much like Holo from Spice and Wolf, the show never misses a beat for entertainment and intrigue.
A pleasant surprise, one i wouldn't recommend to anyone but other anime fans. No one but someone willing to look past the ecchi will be able to see the plot for what it is.
And if you say you didn't cry to episode 6 season 1, you are a LIAR. :3
7/10
Best mom ever is Kokonoe's mom :'(

I thought I would post a quick review of everything I have seen, including Fall 2014 leftovers, going from worst to best.
#8 - Log Horizon: Honestly, this show has been disappointingly boring. Ever since Akatsuki's arc ended the show has been on a downward spiral for me, and this new arc following the young members is simply the worst yet. Every week I have to force my self to sit through an episode of this and every time it feels like a wasted effort.
#4 - Parasyte: For those of you who have seen this, you know I do not have to justify this. For those of you who haven't seen this, what the fuck were you doing last season?
So yah, that is my list for this season. I am glad to be watching only 8 shows, as the last season watching 15 shows almost burned me out. I would love to hear some people opinions, as it would be nice to start an actual discussion on here again. Not having access to the Funimation hitters would kill this season for me. Maria the Virgin Witch, Yatterman of the Night, Rolling Girls, and Death Parade? Only thing Crunchyroll has that comes close is Lesbian Bear Storm. It's a show I'm still thoroughly enjoying by the way, especially now that they've finally got around to doing some backstory on the 2 female bear persons. Am I the only one that's noting the pretty distinct drop in quality on the Parasyte front? Not so much in an animation perspective or anything (though the show has never reached the heights on that front since the first couple eps) but more on the overall writing front. It's one thing to fumble pretty much all of the interactions between Shinichi and the female characters (you don't want to get me started on how the scenes where Female Protag 1 is recalling all the "weird" things going on with Shinichi while ignoring his sudden ability to jump out of two story windows) but the writing as a whole has just sort of taken a pretty stark drop in quality. I just can't get over how the initial handling of the detective character was handled. Last couple episodes have been a bit more interesting as the focus has shifted into how the Parasyte faction is organizing itself but man, please step it up. This show went from a legit Top 5 AOTY contender for me to just dropping off my radar on that front entirely. And yeah, with the exception of the episode with Kanami's introduction Log Horizon's been pretty middling as well. S1 was definitely more entertaining. In other news I just finished watching Hunter x Hunter. It's pretty much the best long running shounen I've seen, now to wait 5+ years for the author to come up with enough new material to justify a continuation of the TV series. It ended off at a pretty good point though.
I still wish they would have let that one dude kill all of the phantom troupe and not just a couple |

Ice Royal Glantix wrote:Looking at the calendar, I realized spring is only a few weeks away. That being said, I think it is time for me to drop my mid-season review for all the shows in Winter 2015. Also, I'm bored and feel like writing some small paragraphs, and if I can spark discussion then all the better. I go from worst to best.
8. Log Horizon: Honestly, I dropped this show out of sheer boredom. Nothing else needs to be said about this disappointment.
7. World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman: Speaking of disappointments, this show has been full of them. It started off so well; there was no over-the-top ecchi, characters looked well designed, and the plot had potential. However, this show has drastically reduced itself to a puddle of stupidity. The ecchi still isn't too prevalent, but there are some characters who seem to fill that gap. The characters that aren't practically rapists are all pretty shallow and poorly designed, with the exception of two. Also, the plot is bad, way too quick, and the enemies are just plain silly. I had high hopes for this show, but I will learn from this and not allow my naivet+¬ to get the better of me.
6. Kantai Collection: I was tempted to put this above Naruto Shippuden, however feel Naruto is just slightly better than this. Unlike World Break, I came into this show because I knew it was going to be a joke. Of course, this show is still a joke, but have been enjoying it far more than I previously expected. Entertaining characters, great animation, and actually entertaining fight scenes make this show somewhat satisfying even though the plot and conflict are both just abysmal.
5. Naruto Shippuden: This show really hasn't changed over the past few seasons. It is by no means amazing, but I wouldn't say that it isn't good.
4. Parasyte: This show has definitely degraded since it started. However, it is by no means a bad. In fact, I think it is still pretty amazing. The conflict is still good, the main characters are both likeable, and the romance isn't too terrible either. My only true qualm with this show is that I would like the intro theme to change, but that isn't really a problem.
3. Akatsuki no Yona: For those of you who remember, this show was number one on my list at the beginning of this season. The show hasn't really changed; it is still amazing. The only reason it has dropped is because the two shows that come next both have improved a lot over the course of this season.
2. Saekano -How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend-: This show pulled the rug out from under me. I fell in love with this show because of its comedy. I was expecting something exactly like Gekken Shoujo Nozaki-kun, where the romance was there but it wasn't satisfying. Unexpectedly, the romance is absolutely perfect in this show, and coming from a person who hates harem that is high praise. Honestly, if the main character ended up with any of the three girls I would be happy, but I will still be pleased if he doesn't end up with any. Don't get me wrong, the comedy is still strong with this one, but the romance has picked up severely.
1. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso: Now for a show that has pulled an opposite change when compared to Saekano. The romance was what I was watching the show for, but the drama has definitely put this show on top. It is rare for me to watch a Slice of Life for its conflict, but this show has worked wonders. Naturally the romance in this show is still great, but it is no longer the thing that makes this show great. As a side note, Arima Kousei x Nagi Aiza is now best ship. Anyone who disagrees will be burned at the stake while soft violin music plays.
Anyway, that is all for my mid season review. Maybe if I get bored later I will do a post on my top 15 anime, as that list has changed a bit since I posted my top 10.
Hopefully we can get some real discussion in here. Peace out all, Glantix / Ice.
I find myself often fast forwarding through the Saviors anime you mention. It has lately kind of dropped the ball. How to raise a boring girlfriend keeps delivering weekly. Unlimited Fafnir has become kind of meh but is still ok. Kancolle is must see anime. Earth Defense Force is just a bunch of dudes, so I am not watching that crap
For the short ones, there is a new one about some Psychologist and some crazy nurse talking about mental conditions. It is short but it is very funny.

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with a little ecchi humor, but this season is just way too over the top. i have found myself having to fast forward through testament of the new sister devil or whatever the heck it is called. that show has kind of dropped the ball lately. most of the new shows so far have been subpar. the only ones i can watch without fast forwarding are kancolle and how to raise a boring girlfriend. maria the virgin witch is a good one too. the rest just kind of blow. |

It's a very ecchi show about girl on girl ... on eating girl. This show is super random too, lmao.
Next I'm going to try this Virgin Maria, but the title already kinda... haha, what a season.
And high school DxD comes next season, w00t for more perversion, Heimdllar must be pleased :3 Neither yurikuma or Maria the Virgin Witch are heavy on the ecchi front. The former is just a symbolism laden tale about ... its actually a bit difficult to describe what it's about. I guess you could say it deals with the idea of true friendship through adversity while touching on a society that ostricizes nonconformity. But seriously the first episode is probably the most notably lewd one. Like I've said before the show is a bit obtuse and doesn't catch it's stride until about ep4 but its pretty damn entertaining despite that. And Maria the Virgin Witch is barely lewd at all despite some light sexual humor in the first few EPs. That one focuses entirely on a girl going out of her way to end war in her small corner of the world, touching on the interaction between human and witch society and the role of the gods in doing something to address the suffering of man. Maria and her crew are a seriously enjoyable cast of characters. You've probably picked up some of the best shows airing this season.
Yep. Maria the Virgin Witch has the echhi humor without going over the top like most of this seasons shows have. Testament of the new sister devil has just gone way overboard most of the time. |

blame the director for making the plot too obvious. I don't want her to die and know that's how they'll play it in the end.
The main guy is going to move on playing piano forever more while moping about her death and we'll likely get no true resolution about anything from any of the other characters other then life sucks without blondie but it'll get better... eventually.
amiright? Literally just watched the last episode. Idk sota, the fact that they explained what "Your lie in April" meant was decent enough for me. There are not many endings that I like when it comes to anime, but this one was pretty damn perfect. Sure, I kinda figured what was going to happen...but they did leave a few surprises for the end I didn't expect that makes me want to re-watch the whole thing now. That last line is something for me to consider, but imagine if Spice and Wolf ends with Holo dying? Really doesn't matter how they kill an amazing character, always sucks :(

Despite the art style, it still has a serious tone to it at times, and the soundtrack is fantastic.
I guess the quality is mainly because of it being produced by TV Tokyo, even having 3 seasons too.
Highly recommend this one. Instantly one of my top 10, if not top 5 for sure. Season 4 incoming.

In the second season when we learned her backstory I just liked her more. Still though, Maki is best girl. Honoka is probably my second favorite though because she had the most growth. She started out as a typical klutzy airhead, and grew into a leader. Someone who faced hardships, faced despair, and almost quit. She didn't though, she pulled the group together, led them through Love Live! and was the Student Council President to boot. By the ending she was almost better than Maki. Almost...
Kill La Kill was good. Can someone say midseason plot twist? It was insane though. So the badguy.... Is clothes?
I'm feeling really outta the loop currently. I really haven't watched any of the 2015 seasons. I'm trying to catch up on basically everything between 2012-2014. The most recent one (in terms of when it aired, not when I watched it) I've seen was Yurikuma Arashi. Man that was weird. I honestly can't really recommend it though. It was confusing, and sorta boring.
Currently I'm on the second season of A Certain Scientific Railgun, and I'm loving it. Misaka is so badass. She be blowing up helicopters, while upside-down, while in free fall. I'm trying to determine if I wanna watch the second season of Index. See, I didn't really like the first season of Index except for the Accelerator arc, but I did like Railgun's first season. The 4 episode arcs on Index's first season really threw me.
The one's I'm most excited for are Yuru Yuri's third season, Saki's third season (hopefully not just another side story), and the Girls und Panzer movie.
Though, if I could vote any anime for getting another season, it'd definitely be Engaged to the Unidentified. It really feels like it needs it. If they did, I'd hope they put more focus on Kobeni and Hakuya, and give Nadeshiko more screen time. Please, she needs it.
yet, the railgun still can not beat touma komijo. if you have not seen a certain magical index yet, i suggest you watch it. it is the precursor to railgun

Oriignally - I dropped it because the cast was cut-n-copy generic, you had your tsundere, the smart mouth kid to accompany her, the well spoken intellectual, the beefy athletic, the useless people, the over achievers, the ladies man, over-talkative blonde bimbo, and a quite loli.
Then throw in the main character whose put in a setting that IS ******* OBVIOUS WHAT THE RIGHT MORALE DECISIONS ARE BUT THEY LIVE IN A BRAIN DEAD WORLD APPARENTLY. So he comes off looking like a hero for using ******* COMMON SENSE.
That kind of **** upsets me in a plot line. It's the reason Aldnoha Zero or whatever it's called is complete GARBAGE. You do your best to make the world believable, the moment it becomes obvious the world went stupid for the sake of a character, your show has turned into trash beyond help.
but it wasn't a huge deal with Plastic Memories, as the actual anguish i'm complaining over was a minor plot-line. Everyone else just seems to find it acceptable to give something intelligence then give it no thought of it's own thought and feelings that you programmed them to have independently. it's like this world just wants to be ******** to set up dramatic effects.
But if you get past this, and a few other irks in the plot line... the interaction between the characters is quite enjoyable. The main heroine, mrs loli, is actually quite the interesting character.
After a while the show takes on the story of Your Lie In April, but without the issue of emotional attachment, i don't give a **** about you lil lady, the show didn't let me. I only know brief moments shown in your history of who you are, and that's quite literally it. You acting cute all the god damn time isn't a reason to connect with you.
But I do like the direction the show is going - and when it reaches it's peak i'm sure i will love it. But it'll never have the emotional attachment Your Lie In April created by beautiful show-casing it's cast piece by piece as it became important to understand them.
Plastic Memories does this, with a single character, and the rest are left to dry. And i really do like mrs Tsundere, she's great, but she's not carrying the show for me.
Story: 6 Characters: 6 Animation: 8.5 over-all: 6.5

this show isn't a bunch of anime characters, but very real people. This show is probably why I'm judging the others so harshly on characters, like Plastic memories, because these have so many sides to them being shown both subtly and otherwise.
This season of anime is simply just fantastic for me, best ever.
SNAFU is a great series. I too have judged other anime too harshly because of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. Between, it and Toradora, the other romcoms just do not compare. The characters in SNAFU are complicated just like real folks as you said. Spot on description of SNAFU.
Oh and by the way, Fairy Tail is still going strong. I just love that show.

Oh and by the way, Fairy Tail is still going strong. I just love that show. I'm really excited to start SNAFU, because I've heard nothing but good things about it. However, I take exception with the romcom statement. IMO the best romcom, and easily making it into my top three anime of all time is Love, Chuunibyo, and other Delusions. The first season is an absolute masterpiece exploring the characters, how they deal with loss, and learning to accept themselves, and others. The second season continues with the strength of the first going deeper into the awkwardness between the relationship of the protagonists' and avoiding the dreaded love triangle, to bring in a likable character who despite having the potential to cause drama works towards what she feels is best for herself, and her friends. Not to mention it's funny as hell.
Chuunibyo is a good one. "Dark Flame Master"

Kail Mako wrote:I just finished the first season of SNAFU, and... I'm underwhelmed. I'm sorry, I really wanted it to be one of my new favorites, but I just had too many problems with it. I'm going to start with the fact that the show is called My Romantic Teen Comedy SNAFU. It had some funny parts here and there, but if I've learned anything it's that if you're going to do a gag you have to see it through to the end. So much of the comedy was either too subtle for me to really enjoy, or too subdued for me to get a good laugh out of it. However, I will say that when the comedy hit just right it was extremely well done, and the Athletic Festival was just really funny. Now, this did seem like a more serious series, so the comedy style can be viewed as a good thing. Too over the top could've ruined the entire tone of he series.
Also, wtf is with the names? Yukinoshita Yukino, Yuigahama Yui, Kawasaki Saki, Shiromeguri Meguri, Tsurumi Rumi? Hikigaya Hachiman, Hayato Hayama? Did Stan Lee write this?
Next, are the side characters. The supporting cast was actually well done. The minor ones like Saika, Ebina, Zaimokuza, and Meguri were entertaining, if a little irrelevant. Hayama came off as a genuinely good guy and he ended up being one of my favorites. Yui was actually very interesting, and really felt like she had multiple layers. Of all the characters in the show she seems like she got the furthest. Yukino... What do I say about Yukino? Well, I didn't like her. For the first 10 episodes I didn't like her. She was rude for no reason, and really flat. After she got some screen time, and managed to develop she got better. Honestly, even though I like Yui better, I think that Yukino had much better chemistry with the MC.
Speaking of Hikki, it's time we went deep into the rabbit hole. As much as this was a show about fostering relationships, and them trying to fix others' problems it was also about Hikki. Here's the thing, I understand him. I relate to him. A lot of what he said made sense. What I can't bring myself to do is agree with him. I saw a lot of myself in Hikki. The only problem was that the parts that I see are the parts I've worked very hard to suppress. This doesn't mean that Hikki is a bad protagonist, it simply means I can't like him as much as I want to.
One of the biggest problems is the same one that The Rolling Girls had. They spent so much time fixing other peoples' problems, that they barely left time for themselves. Sometimes, it felt like they didn't even accomplish anything in an episode. The changes and development were very clear when comparing the beginning to the ending, but I felt like I missed something. Some might say that's a good thing. It means the characters developed naturally, but I want to see them change. I want to see why what happens happens. I want to be able to follow the arc, and that's just something I really had trouble doing here.
As a whole it was an ok show. A thing I noticed is that I wasn't enjoying myself while watching, but that could've just been because I was marathoning and I got tired. Shows like Yuru Yuri, K-on, Engaged, I always had a smile on my face. Even shows like Usagi Drop, Angel Beats, or Chuunibyo which had more powerful emotions then just smiling and being happy made me feel more than this show did. I will say the OP was beautiful though.
Btw, Komachi best girl. She's cheerful and energetic. She's cute, and has that tooth which is enough to make me die, and obviously is very intelligent. She also has quite a devious side, playing her brother like a fiddle. Really a standout character from all the others.
TL;DR It was okay, Komachi best girl.

it's about 5 magical girls with unimpressive powers collecting 'engines' for no known reason against an enemy they know nothing about who doesn't seem all that evil.
for my impression so far, i can't decide wether i like it or not, but I'm certainly interested enough to keep going through each episode. Which is why i'd like a second opinion.
yeah that show can be hit or miss, some episodes are either really good, or just plain boring.

I was introduced to anime pretty young actually. My brother would watch stuff like DBZ, Yu Yu Hakashu, Trigun, and Outlaw Star. However, I don't really remember much about any of those lol. After that, I started really getting into it by watching the Toonami stuff. Y'know, FMA:Brotherhood, Bleach, Naruto, SAO. The very first anime that I ever finished, and the one I credit for getting me hooked though is Inuyasha. Good ol' Inuyasha I actually still hold pretty high. Even if the combat was just a bunch of still frames xD.
Dude, unless you were introduced to an anime like battle of the planets, you were not introduced very young. battle of the planets is from the 70's and is one of the first ones i watched. yes im that old

Shimoneta. Its a new one that just popped up on funimation yesterday. Ecchi humor at its finest without the superperversions of testament of new sister devil. basic plot is this; in the future, all things deemed immoral, such as nudity books, and bad words, especially those of the sexual nature are forbidden. this kid whose father was a dirty joke terrorist goes to the top morals school in japan, there he meets one of the student council members, who is actually the dirty joke terrorist blue snow, who wears panties on her head and says perverted things and drops playing cards with all kinds of smut on them for the populace.
this show had me laughing my rear off the whole time. the stuff i was reading in the subtitles just blew my mind and all i could think about, is how in the heck are they going to dub this when the subs clearly are saying all kinds of stuff that even then, had to have a few letters blotted out. it is worth a look. it focuses more on the humor and people being uptight rather than fanservice or perversions, although, those things are clearly there. |

Anyway, randomly decided to watch The Familiar of Zero. It's...something. Not really good, yet not really bad. On episode 10 right now. Season 2 is worth the watch. the next 2 seasons after are just romantic fluff. it's like Hayate the Combat Butler, but more reliant on perversion and less on humor. Couldn't stop watching until I finished season two this morning. Season one was a very slow build up where they seemed to be searching for an identity--was this going to be a drama? Comedy? Harem?--and it doesn't help that Louise isn't really portrayed as a likeable character for a long time. The viewer is almost flat-out told that he/she should be rooting for Saito and Siesta to pair up, but they do a decent job of recovering by the end of season one and making you care about Saito and Louise and the "will they/won't they?" Season two, though...that first episode hit pretty hard. The storyline about the Prince and Princess...many feels. And the later introduction of the princess as a potential romantic interest was handled rather well. My biggest complaint about season two would be that it ran about five minutes too long. The ending came across as a heavy-fisted attempt at forcing some comedy into a situation that didn't call for it. Would have much rather preferred to see the season end with either Saito's fate still being unknown or the scene where they're running towards each other. Season 2 is the shows high point, sadly. I'd suggest giving Hayate the Combat Butler a shot if you enjoyed it. Couldn't post until I finished season three this morning after work. Really enjoying this show, even if they're trying to force the whole harem aspect of it. Henrietta is a truly tragic figure, and I thought Tabitha's storyline has been handled pretty well. Tiffania's storyline (to this point) just seems like an excuse to make Louise (more) insecure about the size of her chest. Having a hard time deciding on whether I like Louise or not. They present her as being so darn unlikeable that I'm like, "Why in the hell would Saito sticking around?" I would have left her a dozen times by now...(hmm, that may explain why I'm divorced!) and yet...the show does just enough to paint her in a sympathetic light that you still find yourself rooting for her at times. Perhaps someone that hasn't had their heart broken and sworn off love can better relate to the growing pains of Saito and Louise's young love.
saito is whipped. he should have gone with tiffania or the maid

The next would be Heaven's Lost Property - i also enjoyed it more, it's even more whackey, perverted, and out there - with, again, deep story hidden behind it. And then there's the comedy about the Yukaza Mermaid (My Bride is a Mermaid!!) whose gay jokes had me spitting milk threw my nose.

Comedy/Harem
Amakusa, once a popular boy through middle school, now finds himself as a high school pariah due to the "Absolute Choices" that plague him--multiple choice questions that place him in ridiculous situations with a penalty of pain if he doesn't go along. One Choice, however, leads to a beautiful girl falling from the sky and offering to help him break his curse...but are things truly going to get better with her around?
I had high hopes for this show, but it ended up being fairly disappointing. For a show to place so much emphasis on comedy, it really hurts that the humor is often lacking; the comedy is too forced, too reliant upon pratfall humor, to merit more than the occasional chuckle. The harem aspect of the show is decent but never rises above being anything more than average.
Art is solid throughout the show with some very attractive girls. Going hand-in-hand with the comedy, ecchi is a constant presence though actual nudity never makes an appearance. Music doesn't leave any sort of impression.
Verdict: Pass. A comedy that isn't funny just isn't worth the time.
For the Record: Team Youji.
it was ok. not great, but not horrible either. the ending episode kind of blew though, the best character is that tiny little teacher, if not her, the whole series would suck

However, Index took the story further. Personally, I liked Railgun better. I just wish they gave either show another 2 or so seasons. I'll have to pick up the light novels sometime. railgun gets pretty yuri and silly in season 1 and the second half of season 2, whereas index stays more serious, so i understand your preference there soul. i just prefer railgun because we get to see more of my favorite character in the show (misaka) and how she has to come to terms with and deal with a problem outside of her capability (the sisters). raildex aside i found this great beserk amv earlier, made my eyes water a bit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVQJ6Px15_4

Guess it's time to give it a look. Waiting on S2 Testament uncensored before watching, as well. And Valkyrie or w/e it's called that Funimation picked up, it's worse then queens blade, isn't it? I may just skip it. other then that this season of anime has been surprisingly good. Originally I called this the worst season, but OPM, Gundam, Bones, The Perfect Stranger, Yuru Yuri S3, Order is a Rabbit S2, and Utawarurumonu changed my mind. The three action shows, * Wars, Chivalry of a failed knight, and Anti-Magic Academy have ultimately been failures, and almost rip-offs of each other. It's a shame out of 3 attempts at a High school action show, we get another Magic Wars failures. Chivalry tried to stay interesting by involving a strong love element into the equation, really enticing fans to want to get to know them more as a couple rather then individuals, and that's good, because by themselves they both fail as characters. * Wars is much move beautifully animated, or high budgeted, and with a more interesting foreshadowing going on to greater things as schools make moves to out-wit one another, but it ultimately dwindles down to a basic hero saves the day formula because no one else can or will for whatever reasons. Thus making every good choice our no-brain hero make seem more heroic then it actually is. But then again, the rest of *Wars side cast is growing rather well, and it could be something better down the line. But Anti-Magic Academy is just a failure in too many levels to be taken seriously, even though it's backed by some gorgeous animation. But the foundation of the show is built upon the MC's relationship with the rest of the squad, and in almost every one of them there relationship feels so contrived and forced that everything the show does seems invalid for the attempt. The functions of the school weren't explained properly to even explain how inexperienced members can form a squad to function as a unit, and we're supposed to believe a chain of command exist when everything functions like a high school. It's just confusion, from top to to bottom.
that false faces anime has been pretty good. luckily i saw the first series on the funimation app before watching it, so i have a clue as to what is going on

this season has been mostly a watch till later type of season. very few shows make me want to watch on a weekly basis.
shomin sample, uttawanero the false faces( or however that crap is spelled), comet lucifer, and iron blooded orphans, hack a dolls, seem to be the only exceptions the rest, i quickly lost interest in. i will probably go back and watch asterisk war when its final episode airs, who knows, maybe it will be ok. i quickly brushed off gate in the past, only to go back and give it a second look for which i am glad i did. testament of the sister new devil, i have no interest in. i watched the first season, and that anime, seemed to be straight up ****. i dont mind ecchi, but that one crosses the line for me. |

Wagnaria. A nice little slice of life comedy about a diner. Decent show. Not great, not bad either. There is even a tiny short girl for those of you that are loli-hentai types. I have not seen much fan service either to detract from the show. Just a show about life at a diner. one of the characters, just happens to be short for her age. |

I have yet to see season three I realize... and that needs fixing. There's 2 loli's, both great. One's just an awesome character, the other is funny as hell. But the show is almost ruined by that orange hair girl, it just started grinding on me how she can't seem to be able unable to punch men, even after it becomes apparent how badly it's effecting her life and work. Well then you'll be glad with Season 3. Mind you i've only watched 2 episodes of it, but if you've seen season 1 and 2, you'll definitely see how much better she's getting. That is, absolutely amazing to hear, lol. I sincerely just adore Workings cast. From the sword girl and the blonde guys relationship, to the store owner, even the MC is pretty awesome with how open he is about being a 'sort of' lolicon. Not too mention his family, the younger sister brings dimension and depth to the show. It was just that orange hair girl holding everyone back, and the show seemed to enjoy torturing me with her lol
The only problem with that show, is that it makes me want to go to Dennys

registered for the sight and posted in the welcome thread. also, is anyone on hear playing battlefront? yes i know it is not the same as the old versions, but it is not that bad. games are meant to be fun. sometimes i think us gamers are too critical of games and expect the sun and the moon from all of them. the question we all need to ask ourselves when determining if we like a game or an anime is just one thing. is it fun and do you like it. if so, keep playing it or watching it do not worry that someone else may not like the game or anime you love. |

didnt someone on this thread earlier say they hated sky wizards academy? I liked it. Of course, I watched the dub version first and it had the lovely voices of Monica Rial and Tia Ballard, which is probably why I liked it. |

If you are truly a Neet, go watch Heaven's Memo pad. It's a decent anime. Kind of depressing though and it will make you want to drink Dr. Pepper and kill your kidneys.

Who's Ben? Ben is his secret admirer but is only a side character with very little screen time making his chances of becoming the main love interest of sota very small. Ben has a very deep and emotional back story and had met sota after a outcome of bad events in Ben's household. these events included him being removed from a dungeon. that wasn't the issue his mum just didn't cut the crust off the bread once, gives me the creeps thinking about it, anyway he was placed into sotas home for storage foster care i guess, and he took a liking to sota as his style tickled his fancy and he was nice and caring towards the young and broken Ben who was scared of bread for many years due to that incident. after leaving home and getting jobs Ben remained in contact with Sota and is yet to express his love but my attempt to soon through song, poem, creative literature or even interpretive dance. Part one of ? sota's sorta harem (name subject to change)
Ben must be a magical girl.

some decent ones to start the new season,
new gate some anime about peoples imaginations coming to life, called phantoms, typical, the nerd, the big boobed girl that beats on him and their flat chested friend capture them.
some others that i have yet to watch also,
plus fair tail is now going through a prequel phase where we see how it all began. |

Kail Mako wrote:Well, to get back on track... I've started the Winter 2016 season. Things are shaping up to be fairly good. Just from the first episodes...
Myriad Colors: Phantom World: This one seems like it's going to be fun. It'll probably be clich+¬, so we'll see where it takes us.
Active Raid: I'm actually not that into the mecha genre, but I can see the appeal from this one. It doesn't seem to take itself ultra seriously, and I'm always a sucker for random Engrish. Plus, the cast is large, and promises to be at least mildly interesting.
Ojisan and Marshmallow: A cute and funny short, that I can see to being very entertaining.
Erased: It's a slow boil, I admit, but I recommend you watch this right now. No research beforehand, just watch it blind. Right now.
Feel the same. Also check out Dakashi on the Funimation app. It is a good one also. Yep Myriad is kind of cliche, but who cares? It is still funny. |
