I don't care if I sucked at this game. It has anime.

Also, dat Taiga vs Shana match up. xD
Ninja edit: All the main characters. (There are support characters that can backup the main characters but aren't directly playable it seems.)

I'm hoping to pick that up as well. I love Frenchbread's other fighting games, put a lot of time into Melty Blood and now I'm playing Under Night in Birth EXE Late. Dengeki and Guilty Gear Xrd seem like a good way to round out this year's pickings on the fighting game front.
You guys don't stand a chance!

You know Aldnoah definitely hit a rough spot in that stretch between episodes 4-7 but I can't deny that the development of the last few episodes has been quite entertaining. Looking forward to seeing how this one wraps up next week. Gotta wait until January for part 2 of the series to air though.

I wish those supports had replaced some of their choices for actual playable characters. I would have loved to have used Mao or Holo the Wise Wolf (Spice & Wolf assist) or Celty over generic shounen protagonist #1-3. Dude from Durarara, Basketball loli, Taiga, and the chick from Railgun are all good picks in my book though.

So, after tons of request, I tried Fairy Tail again, but this time skipping the first few episodes of fluff. The way Fairy Tale introduces the series is done poorly for me, it doesn't interest mature viewers at all, completely aiming at the pre-teen demographics, which is how most anime are.
And most anime continue to be that way, but FT takes this tried and true method of anime story telling and adds depths, many depths, and it's found in every character, even side characters.
By the first season alone you'll of gotten to know everyone through trial and error before you get to know them through there history, and this builds familiarity between characters and viewer - We got to know who they are, then find out why. Sometimes we don't even know there's anything to find out, you'll of felt like you got to know a character already, then bam, you find a new side of them.
It's as if the writer wrote the story from the moment they were born and continued to write until we're at where we are now. All the complexity of a lasting relationship and the budding/losing of interest and common themes with others, it's just great to behold.
Where Naruto and One Piece rely on intense action and drama to drive literally everything, Fairy Tail has other tricks up it sleeves to entertain a wider variety of audiences then other mainstream anime have accomplished.
I am only 1 season in, and this is my opinion thus far. I'll let you guys know if anything changes. :3
Summary: FT has a rocky start, coming off as a naruto clone feeding off of peoples need for flashy colors that collide but the show quickly catches pace 5 episodes in and begins unfolding the characters rather then story - ultimately making an action/drama show have slice of life and romance qualities, creating a unique watching experience.
So far - the show is 8/10 for me, if they put anymore focus on Romance that is there and is developing between the characters it'll be bumped up in score. |

See I actually think that Fairy Tail's opening arcs are probably its strongest and that sometime after they met the Metal Dragonslayer (in fact immediately after) the quality of the manga went downhill. How many times did they "power of friendship" their way through the battle with the death dragon thing on that random island? How many times were they beaten down senselessly only to get back up with willpower in a single battle? I think at that point I was seriously considering dropping but I was interested to see where the author was going to take the story after the time skip.
And then instead of dealing with the consequences of Fairy Tail being totally outclassed by new guilds they instead throw a DBZ Plot Guru in our way and "unlock the potential" of our heroes and heroines. I noped my way out the door and never looked back.

I noped my way out the door and never looked back. You cannot watch a show like Fairy Tail and not expect 'unlocked' powers. And I can tell it isn't really a problem for you, since you enjoyed the Iron Dragon, pinky gets powered up by red head before he engaged that 'revealed his hidden potential' revealing a fire dragon surrounding him. If the enemies get tougher, the good guys need to get tougher too.
And it's the ark right after Iron Dragon I fell for - Leo's short story was very enjoyable, watching him open up and Lucy share the companionship the other instilled in her from the Iron Dragon ark was wonderful. The story itself, if that's your focus, is completely cliche. I have seen these stories before a million times already, even the island village. *Black Star Naru anyone?*
But let's be real - anime stories completely rely on characters rather then plot to build interest and move a story along. And Fairy Tails characters all shine. I can't name any that annoy. And I felt true emotion for so many of the characters in the Dragon Iron Ark I was surprised. Everyone from the card girl to the guy with the smokes - all of them opened up and cried there own tears for there own reasons loving those around them in there own way that doesn't feel like it's there to fit a cliche personality. |

I don't accept that we should compromise between having enjoyable characters or having a plot that actually attempts to make sense. Especially when there are so many examples of shows/manga that know how to handle both ends of the spectrum without crippling themselves in the process.

It's not that there's a compromise, more so then this is how these industries have chosen to appeal to there audiences.
Hollywood just can't sell a character like anime can, and so anime puts more focus on that character, giving us what we want. Often times this is what leads to directors ultimately changing the plot away from the original manga.
Anime simply don't do plots well, if you want a strong plot, read the manga, anime corrupts it to appeal to it's target audience. |

My problems with Fairy Tail stem entirely from the content of the manga, sorry if I didn't make that clear. The animation of the anime threw me off when it was first airing so I didn't continue down that path. Let me be clear that It's the writing in the source material that I have an issue with here. Given that the anime doesn't seem to be straying too far off that source material I imagine those problems are still present. Outside of filler arcs I think most long running shounens stick to the source material pretty closely, the only exceptions being when they find themselves running up to the content of the manga and need a filler arc to stall for time.
And again, this notion that "Anime simply don't do plots well" is something that I thoroughly reject. Like all mediums there's a wide range of things coming out of varying quality. Some shows suck at it and some do them extremely well.

It's a show created by Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth. Monty came into the underground spotlight when he made a Samus vs Halo Spartan video, and then further by creating the Dead Fantasy series which showcases characters from the Dead or Alive series versus characters from the Final Fantasy series (and then a special cameo as well). Dead Fantasy was announced dead by Monty, presumable because of his new independent work with Rooster Teeth.
*segway*
While Monty does the animating, Rooster Teeth is at the head of writing for the show as well as providing some of the voices. Some are new, the entire main 4 being fresh faces to Rooster Teeth, but Jen (aka voice for Cortana) does the narration and Michael from Achievement Hunters and Rage Quit is the voice for a character that appears later on in Volume 1, Kerry being another voice in the beginning of Volume 2.
Red vs Blue fans will probably instantly recognize the voice of the long haired redhead in a ponytail and I believe there are others from RvB fame but I myself am not too familiar with all of them.
(GDI, I wrote more than I expected)
I could go on but I will say that I was in the same boat Ghost: I cringed a little when I heard their voices and their interactions. However, they are amateur voice actors; I believe this is their first start so there's room for improvement.
Finally I'll say if anything, watch the Red, White, Black, and Yellow trailers, as well as episode 8 and 16 to jump straight to the action and watch Monty's handiwork in action.
EDIT: There they are! Added links.

I hope naruto and sasuske both die and then orochimaru steals both their bodies then experiments to become the next sage of 6 paths then kakashi can hook up with sakura. oh and 90% of the worlds population should die/turn into white zetsui. just so they have a reason to **** and repopulate the earth.. Oh and the next arc will be a ninja vs zombie arc with kakashi as hokage. Yamato as leader of the zombies. And orochimaru with a mysterious master plan.
I would like your post if I could but CCP nerfed my like button and took it away. :(
