OOC: Everyone post your new year's resolutions if you want to (I know it's a bit late for that, but anyways). Mine are: 1) To crush my enemies. 2) To see them driven before me. 3) To hear the lamentations of their women.
Screw exercise, I'm not going to follow through with that anyway.

Brutus, right now you are in a room inside the Haversham Estate. It is dank and eerie. At each wall is a large muscular statue, mouth agape. From the open mouths a beam of sound shoots straight toward Narrett creating a barrier around him. He can't seem to get out, nor can you hear him.
"Well Brutus it would seem that the barrier of sound is suppressing his magick. We need to take down these statues."
Franklin sprints to one of the statues. Without stopping he spins, quickly wielding his custom revolver and shooting seven bullets into the upper torso. Following the momentum he launches himself into the air with surprising finesse given his physical appearance. From his inner coat a cable launches into the torso pulling him to it like the line of a fishing rod. As he hangs from the gargantuan statue his eyes begin to glow purple. The entire upper statue begins to change from a hard stone, to loose sand, spilling onto the floor. The barrier around Narrett seems weaken...

Around the time Vicar Ur is brought back from the dead, to lead the ranks of undead...
Conyr groaned. His head felt like a swollen, plump fruit, ready to burst at any moment. If his skin wasn't green, the blood forced by gravity to his face would've rendered it bright red.
Between the blows he feebly tried to fend off from a vicious girl with tangled brown hair whilst suspended upside-down by two impossibly strong hands which gripped his ankles, the poor logipriest recalled how he had ended up in this humiliating situation.
________________
A few days after Conyr fell into a hole (post found on page 84)
Conyr stared into the fire, watching drops of fat drip into it only to sizzle and pop in the blaze, vaporised into aromatic fumes. Vyzion stood by the makeshift spit, turning the small jungle boar slowly over it. The little logipriest's mouth salivated at the delicious smell of roasting meat, something he had never had before.
"Vyzion?"
"Yes, boy?"
"Can I eat that?"
Instead of responding, Vyzion sliced off a strip of meat from the flank of the boar, and held it up for inspection.
"Looks ready."
Conyr practically pounced at it, but Vyzion jerked his arm up, leaving the little logipriest scrabbling at his thighs, whining. Vyzion laughed. "So, you want meat?"
"Yes yes yes!"
"...Good." A mysterious glint shone in Vyzion's eye, but he crouched and handed the now warm strip to the boy. "Enjoy it."
The scene that met Conyr when he awoke from his slumber was quite similar to the one he was dreaming of. A crackling fire, meat suspended above it, someone turning the meat on a spit. Except instead of a dense, breezy jungle at night, they were in a small, smoky cave, and the fire seemed to orchestrate the movements of the shadows as they danced against the rough walls.
"What's your name?"
Conyr yelped and scrabbled backwards. The man who was turning the spit was suddenly face to face with him. The light of the fire cast the man's features in an eerie half-visible light, and Conyr thought he saw something vaguely familiar about him...
"I asked for your name, boy."
"Conyr."
"Good, Conyr. Now, why have you come here?"
The answer sprang to mind instantly, even though he had just awoken. "Airships."
Silence followed his answer, then the man simply replied with: "Sky."
Conyr blinked. The man didn't. They continued staring at each other this way for a long moment, the younger blinking occasionally, the older unflinching even in his gaze. Then the man spoke again. "You're serious, aren't you?"
"Yes."
"Okay, let me ask you another question. What do you want to do?"
A slight hesitation, then: "Fly an airship."
The man showed no such hesitation as he picked up the slight logipriest, and threw him across the cave. Conyr slammed into the solid wall and crumbled, winded. A shadow fell over him as the logipriest struggled onto all fours.
"What do you want to do?"
"FLY AN AIRSHIP!"
A blur entered Conyr's vision, and he saw the dirty, unlaced boot embedded in his gut a second before he registered the searing pain in his abdomen. So light was the logipriest and such was the force of the kick that Conyr actually rose to the man's eye level, and saw his own pained expression in the reflection of the eyes of the other.
This time Conyr did not unclench his body from the instinctive, tight coiled position he found himself in. The man spoke in softly, but his tone was hard. "That was a cannonball, puncturing your body."
"This," he muttured as he grabbed a handful of the logipriest's hair and flung him bodily, again, across the room, "is a typhoon throwing you off your ship."
The man strode over to the logipriest once more, his shadow caressing the logipriest almost as if in apology before Conyr's arms were lifted above his head and he was pulled to his feet. Then Conyr watched helplessly as the man stretched his arms out to the sides, forcing Conyr's shorter ones to stretch painfully, until the pair were chest-to-chest, in a strange dance of one-sided agony.
"You wish to command a ship? My arms control the airship's rudder. Control me."
Conyr struggled to move the man's arms. An inch, please, just an inch is all I w- Conyr's struggle was perhaps mercifully cut short as the man raised one arm and lowered the other, bringing both around until Conyr was upside down, then let the logipriest's body fall away from his own. Conyr forsaw the outcome: both his arms were going to break. But the man released his grip at the last moment and Conyr fell on his back, arms still outstretched, sobbing.
"What. Do. You. Want?" Conyr barely registered the voice, such was the ringing in his ears.
"Food... and water. Please."
Conyr could not see it, but the man grinned. "Well, why didn't you say so sooner? Roe, come in, I'm finished. Let's have some dinner."
Cool liquid poured into Conyr's mouth, and Conyr gazed to the side to see the same girl he had been following across the giant plain holding a small rough-hewn cup to his mouth. He drank gratefully. Then the man loomed over him again, and brought his fist down on Conyr's face. The logipriest flinched and clenched his eyes, but no pain came. Then a warm, chewy, absolutely delicious substance was shoved into his mouth. Conyr chewed, swallowed and muttered a thanks without opening his eyes.
"No problem," the man chuckled. "You can call me Dryde, and you've already met Roe."
"What do you call the stuff you just made me eat?"
A laugh. "Oh, that? I like to call it bacon. If you want more, your training begins tomorrow."

(Ooc) BACK! I'm back it's okay everyone, the giant has returned to bring about stories of improbability and rag, and hopefully some happiness at some point when I'm done making every character I think of have horrible horrible lives. (Ooc)
Brutus decided that he would try break the statue with the last bit of his strength and crushing the legs of the statue with said strength. The great man fell and shattered on the ground and the sound he made stopped. The snake stood in the center staring at Brutus. "Snake man okay?" The snake said nothing for a moment but when he did speak what he said shook the giant to the core. "They have Sara.... We have to go n-" the snake didn't even finish before Brutus grabbed him and hoisted him to his shoulder, in a similar fashion he grabbed Franklin and with that the giant began to sprint. His massive frame hurled itself through the castle of smoke and mirrors. His broken leg was forgotten as he slammed doors. His companions tried to yell at him to stop but he would not listen. At moments when he felt pain even his body would not listen. Even as his muscles and ligaments screamed for air, even as his bones grinded against each other in a feeble attempt to stop, even as his skin tore under his metal coffin, his body would not stop. It knew where to go, it felt where to go. Yet he him self did not, he could not explain it any better way. Brutus did not know how long he had been sprinting for but eventually he was stopped, the hilt of a sword flew into his face guard as he turned a corner. The hit sent him sprawling. Franklin and the snake flew from his shoulders. A man of metal slowly walked to the giant, he stood ten feet tall and in a model of the armor that was much heftier than the previous ones before. A helmat hid his face from the giant. And a large sword was held at brutus's throat. "You've been quite the celebrity, giant. Causing quite the stir among our little nation." The man moved his sword away from Brutus and kicked him in the side. The blow crushed ribs under the armor. And the giant let out a howl of pain. "HOW DARE YOU, GIANT! YOU'VE NEARLY RUINED EVERYTHING! MY POSITION IS COMPROMISED, MY PAY IS IN DOUBT AND MY SOLDIER'S ARE PEEING THEIR PANTS LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN BECAUSE OF THE GREAT GIANT THAT NOW FIGHTS MY BOSS!" The metal man kicked with every breath. Brutus felt even his armor shudder under the assault. "I'LL KILL YOU!" The silver rose his blade above his head to stab at Brutus but he would would not bring it down to bear. A booming explosion tore the arm off of the Brigg as Franklin shot his revolver,Brutus acting quickly grabbed the blade. "Sorry."was all he said as he crushed the face plate of the helmet with a viscous blow of the swords hilt. "Well Brutus, I'd say that you're on quite the roll today." Franklin said as he helped the snake up. |

-----OOC------------------ It pains me to say this but I guess it's official.
Xavier is dead. He's been gone for months without even a goodbye. No word since November 3rd.
His last post was: "I honestly cannot wait for your response." This was addressed to Nexhawk who at the time had soldiers engaging in battle with him.
I miss him. I really do. I have no idea what to do without him here. He was our first antihero/villain and he was awesome.
Lucia has lost a great and inspiring leader. Perhaps not the one it deserved, but the one it needed.
Seriously though, if you're out there Xavier, please let us know.

//OOC: There have been literally no posts from him on these forums since October 10th. Besides, something tells me he wouldn't just abandon this story wordlessly. I have two (rather optimistic) options:
1) Either something important happened that made him lose access; in this case, there is a possibility he will come back; or
2) There is something really shifty going on here.
I am actually planning to do some research on this matter and will report my findings, if anything is dredged up. Also, expect a new post from me sometime soon. I know it has been kind of a long time, but holidays tend to get me super lazy. //End of OOC\\

"I am aware of that."
"Something is brewing... And I don't like it one bit."
"Me neither." __________________________________________________
The Wardens were highly efficient in cleaning the square and loading all the corpses on the rows of chariots that were driven by cael'qui, winged horses that could traverse the sky realm with nothing under their hooves. Verephos personally supervised the preparation of the chariots' departure for the Guards' Last Hold, a great cemetery that was floating fairly close to the Wardens' Fort. Once there, the corpses of dead Wardens would be put on individual marble pedestals with latticed tops. Then the priests who served in the graveyard would call upon lightning from the sky to strike the dead bodies and turn them to ash, which would then fall through the lattice and rest there forever.
The insurgents, however, would not get such honor. Their bodies would be incinerated as well, but the ashes would fall into one large pile that would lie in a pedestal in front of the Maiden of Justice, a statue of a winged lady that pointed over yonder with her sword. The pedestal would bear an inscription: "Here lie the disturbers of our peace", reminding the whole Aethereum of that tragic day.
Realizing that his thoughts were getting more and more somber, Verephos glanced upward and noticed that the large sun was at its zenith now. Time to go. He gave several orders to his aides and mounted his own cael'quas. The Observers were waiting.
* * * After about an hour of flying, Verephos arrived at a distant monastery that housed the most powerful Windweavers in the entire nation. Despite its grand purpose, the building looked very simplistic from the outside, for the Observers chose to be invisible witnesses of all events in Aethereum. The monastery was made out of plain cobblestone and marble, but had no less than five towers, four on the corners and one in the center of the edifice.
This down-to-earth look paired up with an atmosphere of utter silence. When Verephos dismounted near the main entrance and entered a rectangular hall, the first Observer he met simply nodded at the incomer and wordlessly motioned at the end of the hall. Once there, Verephos was greeted by a narrow staircase that spiraled upwards. While ascending it, he felt a sinister sense of being trapped within those walls. The stale air also contributed to this notion of confinement, and Verephos realized that some sort of pressure was building up inside his chest, and his forehead was getting sweaty. Combined, these factors wove into a dark and terrible idea... A fear of death manifested itself in Verephos' mind.
The salvation came when he finally reached the hatch and inhaled fresh air. Taking deep breaths, Verephos found himself standing on top of the monastery's central tower, which had four wooden beams in the corners supporting a tent-like roof. Even though the sun did not shine into his eyes, Verephos still squinted a little after catching a glimpse of the midday brightness around the tower. Just when his vision grew accustomed to the daylight again, he heard a voice from behind that said, "Quite an ascent, wasn't it?"
Verephos spun around and saw a man in a simple gray robe standing besides the opposite end of a rectangular table that had some food and drinks on it. Verephos instantly recognized the person and bowed his head with respect. "Magister Oculdom."
Observers' Magister Oculdom smiled and motioned at the chair closest to Verephos and asked, "Sit, please." The two Windweavers sat down, and the latter answered the initial question. "Those stairs were unnaturally narrow. Was that intentional?"
"Not exactly," replied Oculdom, "but it is very fitting now, considering the circumstances we live in."
Verephos understood instantly. "The civil war."
"Precisely. And - no need to thank me for sending a few Overseers to disperse the crowd," Magister interjected when he saw Verephos open his mouth. "Both my and your men have a duty to uphold if we want this country to prosper and thrive. Anyways, I assume you've felt a certain sense of hopelessness on the stairs?"
Verephos nodded.
Oculdom continued, "I had the same feeling about Aethereum. Looking at how easily our nation became fractured over a strange disease, one wonders if we are going to survive any longer at all. And let me tell you something," he drank some wine from a glass and lowered his voice, "this is not even a disease."
"What is it, then?" Verephos asked, considerably abashed.
"A curse."
The Arch-Warden was ready to get desperate when he recalled the staircase analogy. With that, he narrowed his eyes and looked suspiciously at Oculdom. "If I am breathing fresh air right now, am I to assume that you have a solution?"
The Magister leaned back on his chair. "One of our own was affected. And while his magical abilities are impaired, his mind is still as sharp, and together we managed to find the nature of this affliction. More than that, we are very close to finding the remedy."
Verephos leaned closer, as if he misheard. "The remedy?"
Oculdom nodded. "Yes. However, there are still many unknowns. For instance, we couldn't anyhow divine the origin of the curse. That means that we have no idea who stands behind this, and how this war benefits this person. Frankly, it could be anybody with enough powers to create the curse. But I hope we will not have to face this mysterious enemy once the cure is distributed." With that, he stood up and motioned for Verephos to proceed with him downstairs, while whispering, "Still, trust no one."

After a few more hours of talking and being showed around the monastery, Verephos left the Observers' haven. He was very eager to check back on the situation in the Fort, and he mounted his cael'quas hastily and without noticing a dark silhouette that was intently watching his departure from under the shadow of one of the monastery's walls.

Already hundreds of paces away from the mobistat, Sandromin had fluidly gone from a roll to riding an earthen horse. He still had not picked up enough speed to catch up to the mobistats, but he did hear Nexhawk's question.
Shouting in the wind, Sandromin exclaimed, "You'll know what they look like, but if you need help, they are amphibious and have scales. If anything, they resemble us, but are like sea serpents in appearance. Try to avoid killing them; we only need to find them!"
Spurring his horse onwards, Sandromin moved towards the front right flank of the formation.

G4LRCK sent a few commands to the pilot of one of the dropship pilots to airdrop his Variable-Terrain User-Powered Two-Wheeled Transport. The vehicle's light, almost skeletal metal frame scarcely made a sound as it dropped on the ramp the Engineer stood on. G4LRCK hopped onto the small seat, grasped the handlebars and pedaled as hard as he could onto the sandy desert surface, right behind Sandromin's formation. "These 'kraws,' how acquainted are they with magic? Could that disturbance we felt earlier this day be the cause of their agitation?" he asked the sandman.

OOC: The water table and kalter trees allow them to survive, and their skin, though moist, retains water at a very efficient rate, due to special enzymes in the mucous. Furthermore, if severe droughts occur, then they hibernate below the surface. Now, onto plot stuff...
Sandromin, looking across the formation, started moving towards the flare. It was then that G4LRICK posed his question from just next to him, riding along at the same pace.
"No, they are much like normal people. As for why they're doing this, we need to find out by finding their hunting party first," Sandromin explained. "Only a select few use magic, usually their shamans or wise men. Whatever is happening, it's affecting everyone, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Kraw were affected too."

Nodding and memorizing the information Sandromin provided, Nexhawk directed his phoenix towards the main group that was escorting the mobistat. Once all Ashborn were within hearing proximity, he edified, "The caravan has been attacked somewhere in the front by amphibian-like humanoids called kraws. It befalls on us to spread out and search the area for their current presence. Note, however," he lowered his voice, "kraws are usually a peaceful people, and Sandromin does not want to attack them just yet. When one of you finds the site of their assault, simply send a flare into the sky to indicate it for the others."
The riders understood the orders perfectly and dispersed in the sky, searching for the attackers' trace. Nexhawk himself decided to fly along the caravan that stretched among the sand dunes as a snake. After several minutes of searching, he heard another explosion, this time above ground. Lifting his head, Nexhawk saw a fiery symbol that stood for the Praecantarian word "here" rise in the sky. Squinting and gazing on the ground underneath the flare, he made out the dark silhouettes of kraws running around a fallen mobistat and barely heard their vicious battle cries.
Nexhawk then looked below himself and saw Sandromin ride his earthen horse to the right of him. Augmenting his voice just so that it would reach the ground, he shouted, "Sandromin, look to your left. We found them!"
