OOC: Sorry, when I said I would be able to post more frequently I meant it. I've actually just been waiting for everyone else so that I don't go to far ahead. I'm always checking the this thread ready to post when needed. Maybe I need a new side story to let you know that I'm alive... Alive... How ironic.
Also if you could go ahead and start fighting the steampunk cyborg that would be great. I don't want things to happen so immediately on my end.

OOC: I just wanted to say this. I've been having these little moments for the past month or so, mostly in my Literature class. Whether we're discussing epics poems, or reading Greek Tragedies. Moments where the conversations shift. Questions like: "What makes a hero?" "What makes an epic journey?" In these moments I can't help but directly think about our exploits in Dustia, this new expedition, how far we've come, bridging science fiction and fantasy into one. It's almost hard when someone asks questions like that. I just want to say, "Great hero? Oh you mean like Alixenus of Venezzia!" "Noble kings? Like Sandromin, Nexhawk, like Lionus." "Character that represents Death, like Thanatos? No not the Greek one!" My favorite is when fate is brought up. Is Oedipus trapped by his own fate?
I just laugh to myself. Fate, an inescapable force; one's predetermined destiny. They don't even know OUR Fate. No one knows our Fate, our story, our world.
That's the beauty of it. This has been more interesting than any book, any game, any movie in my opinion. I love doing this with you guys. Crafting this story together, post by text-filled post.

If this thing ever finishes, we've got to compile it into an ebook named "Chronicles of Dustia." Then get sued into oblivion by CCP for name infringement. They also probably own all our posts, too.

(Ooc) WELP. Thanatos's speech has inspired me again and Sandromin's maps makes me happy too. Time for a battle.(ooc)
Perceval readied himself for the beast as it roared again. The stories he had heard from the lesser men told him that even if Perceval lost this fight, which was highly unlikely, the giant would leave him be after. Apparently the foolish monster never killed anyone purposely. But in all honestly Perceval didn't want to take chances either. "Briggs." The metal man shouted. To gain the attention of the lesser men. "Aim and fi-" The beast cut the command short as it charged, not at Perceval, but at the nearest two Briggs. They cowered in fear as the hulking giant grabbed on man by the waist and the other by the head. It was a mere second before the brain of the second man covered the armor of he giant, and another second after that, the first man was broken in half. Literally broken. The giant raised him above his head and with a quick flick of his mighty arm, broke the poor Briggs spine. All the while the beast, the abomination bellowed in a rage. The Briggs threw their weapons down in fear and ran away. "COME BACK YOU YOUR SPINELESS WEAKLINGS!" He silver Brigg shouted, quickly regretting his words as the fleeing men rembered just what awaited them. They may have been weaklings, but they certainly were NOT going to be spineless. "FINE RUN!" The metal man shouted at the men. Suddenly he saw a shape fly past his view and crush yet another Brigg. Spinning quickly Perceval saw that the giant had hurled the broken man like a child would throw a ball. And he was getting ready to throw the headless man. The monster threw the headless man at Perceval he quickly swatted away the corpse as blood splattered on his silver armor and face. It wasn't a heart beat before the giant was assaulting Perceval. Swing after swing pounded onto Perceval's defense, each hit pushing the silver Brigg backwards. Inch by inch he moved backwards, but he would not let this... Thing defeat him. Perceval shouted as a rather heavy hit knocked his arm slightly out of place. "Get away from me!" The silver Brigg ducked past a blow and shoulder checked the giant in his gut, giving him a few second reprieve. "I won't have yo beat me Gi-" again Perceval was cut off by another roar. It almost sounded like the beast had said silence. The beast rushed Perceval again but this time he was ready, he quickly moved to the side and using both arms grappled the giant leading leg. The beast fell to the ground with a great THUD but just a s quickly, he got out of the grapple Turing on his back and slamming his foot into Perceval's chest, sending him onto the ground as well. The silver Brigg tried to get up but the giant was faster, quickly pinning Perceval's arms to the ground with his knees. Perceval flinched as the giant leaned his fully enclosed face closer to Perceval. "W-what do you want? To kill me. To free this place? You can't do anything! You're worthless!" Perceval could feel the hot breath of the giant. For what felt like hours seemed to pass as the giant just stared at Perceval. The beast's eyes were savage, angry, and hungry for more blood. Then the silence was broken as the loudest noise Perceval had ever heard stampeded forth from he helmeted head of the giant. It made the silver Briggs ears bleed as his ear drums popped, veins in his cheeks even ruptured, even the ground underneath him shook with the rage and hate of the giants feral roar. It was a sound that could break mountain. And after a full minute of the horrible scream the giant, finally decided that it was time to end Perceval's life. He raised his fist I to the air and began to methodically slam it into Perceval's face. Over and over he felt the fist hit him, like an avalanche of metal. After a minute Perceval blacked out, but even then he felt the fist's slam into his head over, and over....and over....and...over....
Pit was three minutes before brutus's consciousness flickered back to reality. But it felt like a mere moment. One moment he was issuing a challenge the next... The next he was atop the broken face of the silver Brigg. Dark, red blood had pooled around his head. It was stuck in the joints of his fist. The giant looked at his hands in horror... Had he, done his. The giant turned his hand over to see pieces of skull and brain stuck to his palm and fingers. The giant shakily drew his hand to his face and slowly let them fall. Blood was on the rim of his helmets eye socket. The giant stood up and slowly walked away, seeing just what he had done... Three men. Three. Normal. Men... He had killed, in a blind rage, had taken three, brothers, fathers, sons, nephews, uncles or whatever they were, away from this world... Brutus, had become something he had hated for near a hundred years... He had become what had taken his family.
...Brutus had became a monster.... |

"Father, I'm scared!"
"It will be okay, my son. We will be safe," an old Ashborn man replies, standing by the door. Through the darkness of the room, his silhouette can be barely seen, but his pose is showing a bit of tension and uneasiness. And yet his bright, fiery pupils and reassuring words bring comfort into a fearful mind.
However, the sounds outside of the house do not seem to be peaceful or soothing. The noise of fighting pervades through the closed door's hinges and the frames of the black windows: the footsteps of running people to and fro; the flights of the invoked spells' projectiles, with explosions following shortly afterwards; the voices of the Ashborn yelling something unintelligible, but frightening nonetheless; the breaking of doors and walls of the houses; the clashes of obsidian and flesh.
But the worst are the cries.
The shrill screams instill a sense of pure and distinct dread into an afraid mind. The thoughts are scrambled in panic, as the unearthly shouts cause one's very soul to tremble in fear for one's life and existence. Indeed, there is no other notion but to flee, to escape, to hide, run for your life, conceal oneself, abscond, disappear from this place!
CRASH!
A large thud on the house's door sends the old Ashborn into recoil. The same deathly cry is heard right outside, and the grave chill is seeping under the door frame. The man retreats into the middle of the room and assumes a protective posture, with his back partially obscuring the view of the door. The invader continues striking powerful blows against the cendren wood, and in two swipes, the section with the lock is gone.
The next moment is an unbearable eternity, as a singular hand comes into sight through the hole in the door and searches for another hinge to tear away. Its gray fingers creep along the wall and drag along the rest of the hand, exposing the rotten obsidian flesh and the dried lava-like blood that used to flow from deep gashes. The target is soon found, and the scream sounds again. In one jerky movement, another hinge is torn apart, and the entire door falls down before the intruder.
"FATHER!!!"
The abomination at the door is indescribable. The same gray skin that covers the hand can be seen on the entire body, but the face is the worst to behold. The bottom jaw is missing, and the remaining teeth are dripping with fiery blood. Whatever hair is left hangs in lone strands from the top of the head. And the eyes are burning, but not with a living flame, but with a black fire that welcomes you into the death's embrace. An inexplicable terror physically emanates from the figure, as it growls and heads towards the Ashborn.
The man is visibly shaken with horror, and yet he regains his thoughts just in time to conjure and fling a spell at the dead adversary. A fireball explodes on the zombie's chest and sends fiery tongues running across and eating at the entire decomposed body. The corpse waves its arms around, trying the extinguish the devouring element, but to no avail. Soon enough, the obsidian flesh breaks down, and the undead returns to its natural state in a pile of ash.
"FatherGǪ What was that?"
The old man ignores the question for a moment and runs outside. After a few barely heard conversations, he comes back with a relieved look on his face.
"They are all gone now. We are safe."
"Is thisGǪthisGǪthing going to be back?"
"No," the Ashborn smiles in the darkness, "it is gone forever. We are fine now, Nexhawk." ___________________________________________________________________________________________________
"...If there are any of you who have questions or comments about our nigh-expedition, bring them up now," concluded Sandromin.
Nexhawk snapped out of his childhood memory and shook his head, trying to shake the terrifying images off his mind. The strange thing was that he did not recall the Deathlords' Rise willingly; rather, this personal event that he witnessed as a child during that time was forced upon him by something far away. Could it be the unknown entity whose deathly presence was revealed not so long ago?
Is this creature, whoever it is, trying to play on my darkest fears?
Nexhawk ignored the fearful thought and nodded at Sandromin. "No questions on my part," he muttered in a shaky voice. "The sooner we leave, the better."

I don't know about that date, but I know 5-12-13 (DD/MM/YY) is pythagoras day, because 5^2 + 12^2 = 13^2

Just a moment before collapsing on the metal surface, however, the fiery projectile split in two like a water drop that would fall on a thin horizontal beam of iron. "Curious," muttered Nexhawk as he handed the trinket back to the Engineer, "very curious... Sandromin, when this is all over, I'd like to know the secret of this alloy as well. Now," he clasped his hands, "are we ready to go? I fear that my men may already be in danger on the island of Logipriests." "Yes, I do believe it is time to go; it's been about a half an hour since I sent my scouting parties out. Let's get loaded and into formation. Everything other than us is ready to leave," began Sandromin as he moved towards the door. "On the way there, we'll be passing the armory. If there's anything that you may want, feel free to bring it along." "Excellent!" replied Nexhawk. "I shall send word to my crew for them to catch us." With these words, he reached into one of his belt pouches and extracted a small black and orange egg, that instantly cracked open and released a phoenix hatchling. Nexhawk whispered a few words to the little creature, and it flew rapidly towards the harbor. "The other Ashborn will arrive shortly, so we can go now. I hope you won't mind the Embershard staying anchored here for the duration of our journey?" Nexhawk inquired.
OOC: We have a harbor? When did that appear? Hm... time to write in a conveniently placed Kalter Tree River...

After receiving the ring, he held it vertically with his thumb and index finger and flicked the fingers of his right hand above it. A speck of flame appeared at his fingertips and expanded into a small fireball that flew down on the ring. OOC: Um... We arrived by the ship, so there had to be one now, I guess.
On a side note, it could be a harbor some distance away from the city, on the shore facing Diyad. //End of OOC\\
