Brutus, you mentioned in post #1271 'ancient airships of the great empire'. Could I get a little more information on those?
And Alixenus, the pit fighting belowdecks. How does it work? Is there betting? Is it vicious? Do the losers get thrown into a corner to recuperate, or is it a friendly brawling thing? And how much alcohol is involved? |

(Ooc) the airships are similar to the diyadian airships but are like the collectives in terms of agility but they are bigger. The giant nations were pretty smart, being so old and stuff. So eventually they struck up a deal with humans to help get metals and ores for their engineering and protection. So weapons and things were created. Such as airships, breakers shakers cannons of different types and eventually, biologically engineered half giants like Brutus. So giants=smart because they were born as giants. Brutus can't talk because he's actually a human in a giants body. Which is why he talks the way he does. That's why bigger giants have harder times talking. Except for Jarg and Krathisis because of special reasons that I'll talk about later. Did that answer the question? (Ooc) |

OOC: Awesome, thanks Brutus.

Conyr was quickly revising his wish to sail the skies, if sailing the ocean was this bad. He lay hidden, curled in a ball, in the hull of the Charybdis, and above him heard bloodcurdling cries of men as they (from the sounds of it) beat each other to death. The porthole Conyr lay next to was grimy and greenish, but through it the logipriest could still see the unfathomable depths of the ocean below. The seafloor had dropped long ago, and the colourful coral and fish, the vibrant marine life, had been replaced by an infinite bluish void, darkening to black.
Conyr groaned as his stomach lurched with the ship's movement. He shut his eyes tight and wondered how he'd managed to get stuck in this stinking hold, the ceiling now leaking some strange liquid which Conyr realised, with a shiver, was blood. The fighting above must have escalated. Conyr imagined it now, the bruises and cuts, blood sprayed against the walls, a pit surrounded by men crying for blood, and those men surrounded by men who were betting on the blood. All intoxicated by alcohol. His insides lurched again, but not with sickness. Conyr stood up shakily, his mouth now set in a determined line. Where there was injury, it was his responsibility to cure it. A shaggy-haired dog, lifeless and sprawled on a forest floor, flashed through his mind. No. Conyr dug his fingernails into his palms, clenching his fists so tightly his knuckles turned a pale green.
-----5 days ago, before the Venezzian fleet had set sail-----
Conyr stood on the same hill he had walked up when he ran from Venezzia, alone, without family or friends. Below him sprawled the great seaside city, its harbour bustling with activity. Ranks upon ranks of soldiers marched towards it, aboard grand battleships, built for war. Conyr grinned. What better way to learn to sail the skies safely, but to learn how to sail the great seas first? He strolled down towards the entrance gate, pausing briefly kneel, place his palm against the ground and breathe. This was where he killed that dog. I'm sorry.
When he reached the gates though, he sensed something was wrong. The guards flanking the entrance gazed at him suspiciously. When he tried to walk through them, the barred the way with their spears, crossing them in front of Conyr's chest.
"You, you're a logipriest." The guard to the left leered at Conyr, and his voice was grainy, as if he had spent so much time at the beach sand had gotten in his lungs.
Conyr nodded in response.
"Come with us."
The guard turned, and his companion positioned himself behind Conyr. In this fashion they marched the logipriest into Venezzia.
Conyr's mind reeled. What had he done wrong? He glanced furtively around, looking for someone to provide him aid. Everyone he passed glanced curiously, then at posters plastered to walls. Conyr frowned, and as they walked past one, he tried to get a look. The guard behind him shoved him aside and tore the poster down. Conyr didn't hesitate. He leapt onto the guard's back as he stooped slightly to tear the poster down, jumped off his back to grab the balcony rail, and hauled himself onto the rooftops.
Yells followed him as he dashed from roof to roof, towards the harbour. They eventually died out, however, as the streets below proved more difficult to navigate than the open rooftops.
Conyr dived off the final roof before the harbour into a haystack conveniently placed below. Climbing out, he continued sprinting into the harbour, staying in the sparse shadows under the noon sun, until he reached the waterfront. Quickly glancing around and noticing no-one was watching, he jumped into the water. Swimming with an unpracticed breaststroke, Conyr slowly made his way to a ship named Charybdis. He found a long chain snaking down from the side, and frowned as he recalled what Vyzion had taught him about ships. That's... an anchor. Conyr smiled, the knowledge flooding back into his mind. He grasped the thick links that made the chain and scurried up. Halfway up, he leapt sideways onto a cannon sticking out of its port, and squeezed inside.
Heart beating fast, he found a hidden nook and hid inside.

The ocean between the Scorched Lavania and the continent of Praecantaria stretched for an extremely vast distance. Due to the lack of relations between the residents of the two continents, if one would observe the entire body of water, one would usually notice very little movement on its surface, and that would only indicate at the activity of the creatures that dwelt underwater. On the day when the fateful battle of Quarn had happened, however, one would notice an unusual little speck flying to the eastern coast of Lavania. To the observants on that shore, the speck grew and grew with time, until a silhouette of a phoenix hatchling started to draw itself in front of the rising sun.
The citizens of Spodium were amazed upon seeing the arrival of a message from their ravaged and abandoned home. For many Ashborn, it meant new hope for the restoration of Abismonus; if there were survivors after the flood, it could as well be possible to return back one day. Smiles appeared on many of the previously solemn faces, as they watched the flight.
Igniris was tending to one of Spodium's cendren groves when she noticed the flying hatchling. Surprise filled her mind too, but not for the same reason as it filled others. She knew that Nexhawk left a small group of volunteers on Praecantaria to hold back maraudering Hydromancers for as long as possible. What was unusual for the woman, then, was the fact that a young hatchling could cover the immense distance between the two landmasses.
And truly enough, the small phoenix was using the last of its resources when it crossed the perimeter of Spodium. The hatchling was breathing heavily as it descended on the easternmost cape of Lavania and collapsed on the ground from exhaustion, not many feet away from Igniris. She hurriedly ran to the bird and scooped it in her hands, carefully placing the phoenix next to a pile of fallen cendren leaves, so that it could eat and fill its hunger. The hatchling dropped a roll of parchment from its beak somewhere along the way to the leaves, and Igniris picked it up after letting go of the young creature and letting it feast. The phoenix tiredly, but happily, pecked at the leaves and broke them into small pieces, taking them into its mouth one at a time. Meanwhile, Igniris unrolled the note and started reading the rather brief message.
The Core is on its way. It houses a couple hundred of survivors, but the rest decided to stay with me and fight back against the invaders for the sake of letting it travel safely. We are holding up right now and trying to rebuild what we can.
Fatoxum
The message was dated three days ago.
Igniris narrowed her eyes as she tried to compare the speeds of the hatchling and the Core. She figured that the phoenix travelled around three times faster. Six or seven days till it arrives, she realized. Five, if the wind blows in the right direction. The news had definitely lifted her spirits; not only the arrival of the Core meant a lot for Nexhawk and his people, but also the word about the remaining survivors gave her the same hope that filled the hearts of other Ashborn already.
The Ashborn woman closed her eyes. She tried to reach her brother through space, a kind of connection not unusual among her kin, but amplified if established between two siblings. Igniris searched for Nexhawk and finally found him hundreds of miles away. When she reached for him, however, sounds of battle assaulted her ears. Shouts, explosions, rumbling, blows... Igniris slammed her palms over her ears to muffle the noise and almost called to Nexhawk, but then she felt something else. She senses a touch of a place where no magic could exist...where nothing could exist. The feeling was similar to staring into an abyss, only multiplied thousandfold. Abyss enveloped her senses; she wanted to scream, and then a name came to her mind.
Void.
She drew back and severed the connection with Nexhawk. Igniris snapped her eyes open and realized she was panting. Heavily. Whatever her brother was fighting was definitely not human...and it seemed to be extremely dangerous. |

OOC: Nexhawk, ding ding ding! You partially figured out his weakness. He cannot absorb physical attacks. There is a catch though...
Thanatos felt something wrong. He couldn't place his finger on it. He wiped away the Dust from his eyes and realized that the base had been brought down, and a safe distance from Karthage.. However they were surrounded by fighting. Ships could be heard firing at a distance, their cargo unknown. But that wasn't all, he could sense something, something empty being filled as quickly as his thoughts lingered, lingered deep into annoyance. Something within him felt... frustrating, not right... But he had to concentrate, for he had noticed something about Void.
As the attack connected with his midsection his eyes gave one brief moment of worry and uncertainty. His clear skin pulsated a bright orange at the point of impact. His entire body slid in place across the platform to the ledge. It took all the force in his body to stop himself in place. He jerked his neck upwards facing the sky. He let out an ear piercing screech that sounded neither human nor godly. The very ground shook and the sky seemed to open up for the coming storm.
Then suddenly the entire grounded base began to vibrate. The metal walls and floors began to form protrusions. They grew and expanded until they were large masses of melted metal and human flesh. The masses began to take human form, and surrounded the entire base like a still army. Men made of metal and decomposed flesh, yet they didn't move. Some of the men resembled the bodies of the soldiers he had consumed earlier.
Void's screeching had finally ended. The pain had resided for now. Although the blow was immensely powerful, his body was unscathed. He looked almost passionately into Nexhawk's eyes, which made him slightly uneasy.
"You are SO much fun... I look forward to your inevitable consumption. Think you can fill the Void? Make me whole? Make me ONE? Why not join us? Nak'Sora regrets her actions against your people. Even now she has ensured your message has made it safely. Would you not like to restore your forgotten land? To bring your people to their former glory, to vanquish the your enemies? Look at my children. For what I consume I give back. Bodies, made of the corrupted flesh and matter I have consumed. Yet they are empty, so I must give them life. Give them souls. Souls freely roam the heavens like animals. But they are no animals, they are men. Men in their purest form. So from the heavens I shall pluck the wild men, and give them new flesh, to aid me. Come my children, my men, my soldiers.
On cue small spherical entities begin to descend from the sky. They resemble a silver flame, ethereal and sentient. They are thrust into the bodies of the newly created army. One by one the hollow eyes of each abomination begin to glow an eerie red. They each turn to the ships in the distance and begin a slow march towards the Venezzian vessels. The loud roar of each footstep in unison alerts Alixenus to the oncoming threat.
"Nexhawk, my child, faithful mortal! Observe my command of the souls, OH THE SOULS HOW THEY BEND TO MY WILL!" .

Thanatos, your writing is as magnificent as always. I worry even more (hence the weeks where I post nothing) that what I write is boring, useless, insignificant, unworthy of this thread.
But I always come back, because it's extremely fun. Let the story weave itself. Remember, Michelangelo didn't carve an angel from marble. He carved away the marble hiding the angel.

Annoyance quickly became frustration, and anger even quicker. As Void spoke Thanatos struggled to control his anger. He didn't understand why. Why was he so angry. Was it because his nation was being attacked? No, he was sure he could protect them. Was it Halvedes betrayal? No, he had planned on it. Was it Fate's interference? Possibly, but that wasn't it. He felt he had a sense of duty, as if his very existence was being rejected, ignored, unrecognized, exploited. He had to keep himself restrained, he thought he had found a weakness, he only needed to find a way to exploit it. There's that word again, just thinking about it made him angrier.
"...Observe my command of the souls, OH THE SOULS HOW THEY BEND TO MY WILL!"
Hearing those words had just evolved anger into fury...
His eyes began to glow and he instinctively drew his long katana, Ultimatum. Unlike the pure and righteous radiance of Sandromin's Aether, this emanated feelings darkness, death, and the end. With the aggressiveness of a hawk he leaped through the air towards Void, his blade emitting flames the color of his irises. As he launched toward Void he had that feeling again, the feeling not of a human, but of a father. The human interactions around him became foreign. His body seemed to move on its own, as well as his mouth.
"Insignificant termite! Abomination of the heavens! You dare loose your worthless tongue to command MY domain?
Anyone, even mere mortal children within a large proximity could feel the sudden spike of his aura. It seemed to tower above the Dust and challenge the gods. Nexhawk would be the only ally to witness this with his own eyes. For a brief moment ethereal pink wings at emerged from his back. Void was speechless. Was Nexhawk just toying with him the whole time? Did he have an ally just waiting to strike. Who was this man.... THANATOS... His hatred had focused on a single target, he lifted his forearm to take the blunt of the blow. This split second decision had just prevented Thanatos from impaling his head. The sword collided with his arm, generating sparks and a sound resembling thunder. Similar to the earlier attack, the impact caused his entire arm to pulsate with pain and his entire body slid violently off the edge of the base. Thanatos remained airborne using the force of his attack to remain above Void. As the two plummeted towards the ground, Thanatos followed up with a flurry of attacks, each barely being blocked. Small cuts began to form around Void's arms...
"THANATOS! Your power almost surpasses my hatred, you and your friend WILL make me ONE!!!"
Void begins to absorb the entire sword, but is surprised when nothing happens. They just remained locked, arm and sword, pushing against each other. Void tried even harder to absorb the blade but to no avail. As he tried, Thanatos' eyes began to bleed, and his hair began to lose color. Scars that had faded long ago began to reappear along his face and arms. They both shared that moment of simultaneous pain until they hit the ground...

//OOC: I think that this is almost everyone's problem when it comes to comparing works of different people and yours in one domain (be that art, literature, actual work, etc.). At times, we tend to judge our own work against much higher standards unlike those of our peers, and it results in this universal doubt. I'm saying this because I have experienced that feeling too and many times; in fact, I believe that it is not alien to anyone who continues posting in this thread. Vyzion has pretty much nailed it, and I'm just going to echo his words by saying that your writing is as great as it has always been. Don't let your exaggerated judgment of your own work discourage you from coming back and producing more of it.

I knew there was one! Very well, let's try again, shall we? //End of OOC\\
Nexhawk watched the Void slide to the end of the platform and felt slight disappointment as the latter held himself in place. But then his attention was diverted to someone's presence, not in Karthage, but in his mind. He felt Igniris connect to him all the way from Spodium, but for what reason, he couldn't yet tell.
Then the Void started to speak.
"Think you can fill the Void? Make me whole? Make me ONE?" Nexhawk stared at his adversary for one brief moment. Fill the Void... Does the Void have its limits? How much exactly can he absorb? Ideas began to form in his thoughts, but then...
"Even now she has ensured your message has made it safely."
What message? Nexhawk tried to probe Igniris' mind, and sure enough, there was a message. But with what content? The Ashborn couldn't possibly discern. And at this moment, he felt his sister break the mind link without saying anything. This made Nexhawk feel sorrow; he had enjoyed that moment of peace and serenity that emanated from Igniris and her surroundings. But he realized that she must have felt the turmoil that he was now experiencing, and that scared her beyond measure.
"Would you not like to restore your forgotten land? To bring your people to their former glory, to vanquish the your enemies?"
Nexhawk hissed, "I would prefer to stay here than employ your corruption to reclaim my homeland, thank you very much!"
What happened next assured that he was right in this notion. The Void commenced creating bodies out of seemingly nowhere and seeding souls from the heavens into them; the sight itself was indescribable even for Nexhawk, who had definitely seen much in his lifetime. This is madness! Necromancy...evolved! "How different are you from a necromancer, monster?" Nexhawk shouted at his enemy.
And then Thanatos came in for the strike. His aura assauted Nexhawk's senses; it was too much to behold even for the Ashborn. He shielded his eyes for a brief moment, for Thanatos' glow made everything else look like a pale shadow of itself. He heard the Ultimatum clash and hiss as it came in contact with the flesh of the creature that was the Void. But the glow eventually receded, and Nexhawk saw something unbelievable. Thanatos' sword could not be absorbed! But this realization came with a heavy price - somehow, the Void managed to suck in the lifeforce of the katana's wielder, and as the both assailants fell onto the ground, Nexhawk could spot Thanatos at the brink of his senses, his eyes bleeding, his appearance that of an ancient man.
Time to finish this.
Nexhawk glanced at the sky above him and saw the two phoenixes still circling there. He shouted an order, and his mount plunged to his master, while the other creature rushed to Thanatos. Nexhawk climbed Fel'ir and flew towards the Void, watching as the second phoenix grasped Thanatos' arms and dragged the man lightly a few meters away.
Sol'Krin, I request your aid! Help your faithful servant, the Ashborn beckoned. To his relief, the diety appeared in his mind's eye a moment later. The god's image smiled. What is it that you require, my child?
I need your help in defeating this...this abomination.
And how do you know it is one?
The question forced Nexhawk into stupor. Sol'Krin answered for him. The Void is where all things come from in the beginning. It is also where they all go in the end. The matter then gets reshaped into new creations that enter the mortal plane through a natural cycle of life. There is no... Sol'Krin's countenance saddened as he corrected himself. There should be no other way. What this...creature is doing is, at the very least, abominable. So you are right in this assumption, Nexhawk. And this is why I will help you banish and destroy this monster.
I...I cannot thank you enough, my lord, Nexhawk bowed his head to Sol'Krin's image.
Just give me a point, and I will strike, the god smiled as he uttered the last words and disappeared from Nexhawk's thoughts.
The Fiery Lord now knew exactly what to do. As Fel'ir drew closer to the Void, who now prostrated on the ground, Nexhawk jumped midair from his mount and drew his hands together again. He plunged towards his foe and extended his arms, his palms now mere inches away from the Void's head...
//OOC: Thanatos, I think you should have the choice of whether Nexhawk gets to strike the Void now or not.
Also, please tell me if I screwed up anything in the reason for which the betrayer should be killed. It has been a long time since we've discussed the aspect of the Void. //End of OOC\\ |

(Ooc) sweet baby Jegus guys! Thems are some good posts. Hope I can follow up. Some how. (Ooc)
Carin and his companions tried to stay as dry as they could, but the downpour was like a tempest. Hardly any of the torches could be seen in the rows of the barricade, and those that could be seen were small and hard to pick out. Like fire flies that didn't want to move. "This whether is ridiculous!" Some one was shouting over the down pout and occasional boom of thunder. Cairn wasn't sure who the voice belonged to. "It's been raining for at least two full days now! And it doesn't show any signs of stopping. Better get used to..." The sky intrupted with an extremely loud explosion of light and noise. A few of the guards flinched. "It's like the very sky wants us to leave!" "Maybe it's a warning?" Cairn mumbled to himself. He'd had an uneasy feeling ever since the city finally settled. Like something was off, or amiss. Maybe it was just the fact Adryan was gone. Maybe something was going to happen. Maybe his nerves had just been shot from all the fighting he'd seen in his life. Most likely it was a combination of the three. "Do ya think the valley will flood? " "We thought of that remeber? We have the channels running down either side of the cliffs!" That was a priority when they had arrived. While the soilders barricaded many civilians dug long channels away from the city in case of things like this. "Can't we just rest in one of the barracks for an hour? I'm freezin' my..." The man was drown out by more thunder. "We're stationed here for a reason, quit your complaining." Cairn shouted to the other guards. He quickly took a tally of the how many were rangers, vanguard and hunters. The majority were rangers. The next hie at we're hunters. Not that any of that mattered. Cairn thought he heard some one shout something else to him. He wasn't sure what. He didn't really care. "Hey!" This time cairn looked to the sound of the voice. "I said did you hear a bell or somethin'?" Cairn shook his head "I can barely hear you!" But then cairn did hear it, three rings then nothing. It was so muffled. "What does three rings mean?" "Unknown group!" "What?" "We don't know who or what they are. But they aren't a group of ferals." "How can you tell! " some one asked. "Because the protectors don't seem to care what it is. So it's probably not a bunch of ferals. It's probably a ranger scouting party coming back." A murmur sounded across the rampart. "I'm going to see what it is! Anyone want to join me?"cairn shouted and looked around. No one even moved. "I'll come!" Some one yelled far down the line. Soon others joined him it looked like it was going to be six of them. And soon the six of them jumped over the barricade and began to trek through the mud toward the barricade at the front. It was extremely hard sloughing through the mud. And after some time airs and the five other random people made it to the foremost barricade. The sight that greeted them was odd to say the least. Five humans and two giants stood at the gate. Cairn gawked at one of the giants. He stood at forty feet or more. Never had cairn seen such a large specimen. The humans were equally odd. One wore a pig for a mask. "Hello!? Who's that?" Called a familiar voice. "Could you tell these guys here that I'm a ranger?" Cairn was dumb founded as he saw a ghost of sorts. "Adryan?! Is that you!" Cairn shouted as loud as he could. "Cairn! Thank god you're alive!" For once in a long time frost sounded actually happy. Cairn looked to the guards at the gate. "This ranger was on a mission and it looks like he actually succeeded. Now let him in!" And with that the makeshift gate opened and finally the ranger named frost was home. |

While Nexhawk was descending towards the Void, he saw no reaction whatsoever from his enemy. Unhindered, his palms hit their mark, and the Void's head pulsated once with bright orange light. It tilted back ever so slightly; Nexhawk didn't intend for the strike to be very powerful. His goal was quite different. The Ashborn's hands rebounded from the man's head, and the former stood straight, patiently waiting for something. He didn't wait for long.
In the next instant, the skies parted, and the sun shone most brightly amidst the raging tempest. It appeared closer than ever before, and its godlike radiance was enough to blind those in Karthage who faced the sun for a brief moment. Then, the sun's glow dimmed in order to give way to another spectacular event.
A lightning, the color of the fiery star, shot out of the center of the sun. It arced quickly toward the Void and soon connected with his forehead, the spot where Nexhawk's palms had hit the abomination earlier. The lightning of flame became a channel, through which celestial energy started traveling into the traitor's body. Is he trying to absorb the sun's fury, or is it searing him from the inside?
Nexhawk chuckled and kneeled next to the immobilized Void. "You should know as well as I do of gods' limitless power. Everything is within their reach; nothing is impossible for them. The real question is, what are your limits? Will Sol'Krin's power be to your Void just like an unending river flowing into a bottomless pit?" Nexhawk's lips formed an ominous smile. "Or will the everlasting liquid eventually fill this vessel...to the top?" |

OOC: ... Well this will be good, I swear I've had this part in my head for a while, it's like you were reading my mind, and did exactly as I expected. I'm seriously staring to believe that I have multiple personalities, all just writing this story. Either that or there is some serious telepathy going on here. I refuse to believe we're just thinking alike...
... They had hit the ground, hard. Before Thanatos could attack again, he dropped Ultimatum and fell off of Void. His eyes grew heavy, the last thing he saw was Nexhawk descending upon them. The rest he could only hear. He could not move, he could not speak, he could not breathe.
Void screamed out in pain, which only caused his golems to attack Alixenus' position more aggressively. True he did feel almost unbearable pain, true indeed. His face stayed twisted in pain, even as the storm opened up to the god. The power of Freedom, Sol'Krin.
Will Sol'Krin's power be to your Void just like an unending river flowing into a bottomless pit? Or will the everlasting liquid eventually fill this vessel...to the top?
"Or will the everlasting liquid fill this vessel... to the top?" Void repeated. His pained face without effort became a twisted grin, ignoring the lightning and pain. " Your arrogance, your naivete, delicious!! SO delicious! Vessel? Is that what you think of me? Mortals with their black and white way of thinking. You assume I am an abomination, a monster, an experiment? I am Void, I am a New God. The road map to perfection!"
The lightning ceases. Void slams his palm into Nexhawk's neck and lifts him off of the ground. For a moment Nexhawk's entire body goes limp, he can not move a muscle.
Do you know what I just did? I just stopped the electrical impulses traveling through most of your nerve endings. But I won't consume you yet. I want you to mature, to grow, to become strong enough to kill without the help of your savior. When that happens, your essence will be that much sweeter..."
A shadow of a perfectly sculpted woman appears behind Void. He drops Nexhawk, to the ground, as he slowly begins to regain control of his muscles. Void begins speaking to the shadow woman, who's voice sounds like several whispers in unison.
"Is it done?" "Yes, just as foolish as you described, he's given me all that I need to continue your plan, and then some." "Excellent, but what of Thanatos, I've specifically asked you to KILL HIM! " I realize that. I will now do so with pleasure. The only thing standing ensuring your defeat as well as the Elder Gods', will be gone." "My defeat?... ... ... Never mind! He is NO threat to me, just a worthless corpse of a mortal. Death would be too good for him! Do as I say, return immediately." "As you wish master, although my hatred for inclines me to disobey, I am no fool."
Just like before a rift behind him opens up revealing a portal, with Xavier and Fate herself on the other side. With one last twisted smile, the most evil and almost demonic one, Void paces backwards into the portal disappearing inside it. Fate gets up from her throne and approaches the portal with all of her beauty. Without exiting she speaks to Nexhawk through the spatial window.
"I was going to give you one last offer, however with the look in your eyes I see you've already refused. Fair enough, mark my words though. Your people will suffer once more, this time because of your choice. Don't believe me? Why not ask... Thanatos what happens when a king refuses me, or has he not told you the truth yet? No matter, when he wakes, tell him this: It is only inevitable..."
With that the portal shatters into glass disappearing as if it had never existed. Meanwhile the attack on Diyad rages on... |

//OOC: Interesting... I had the lightning thing fleshed out for quite some time. And to be frank, I expected the Void to be a God! So maybe there's really some network of twofold telepathic links going on? //End of OOC\\
Fool! Nexhawk slammed his fist into the ground several times. "No, no, dammit! We've let him escape!" But what could we do?
He lifted his head slowly, hampered by the unbearable pain in the neck, and glanced at the sun, now disappearing back behind the shroud of storm clouds. He called to Sol'Krin, "You knew this would happen, didn't you? You-"
I didn't.
Nexhawk gasped and twisted his upper body to get a sight of the voice's source. Sol'Krin's ghostly image, only visible to the Ashborn, appeared behind his prostrated body, arms crossed behind his back, the smile replaced by a frown.
Nexhawk stared at the god, not comprehending what he had just heard. "You didn't know he was a deity?"
Not until several moments ago. You see, here, Sol'Krin spread his arms, in this world, gods' powers are endless indeed. We can shape the mountains, dry out oceans, and decide entire nations' fates in a blink of an eye. Most of us aren't doing that, of course, so than the course of nature is not broken. He closed his eyes and sighed. But in our own domain, we do not possess limitless abilities. Everything we do between us can be countered by some other god. That's why the Void did not take the full blow of the sun's lightning; he absorbed a bit of power and then reflected it back, severing the connection. And his revelation... Sol'Krin scratched his chin. I suppose it can be said that one of his talents is...subtlety.
Nexhawk tried to rise and hissed as pain courses through his entire body. "So, then... How can we defeat him?"
Sol'Krin chuckled sorrowfully. To ask this question is the same as asking "How do I kill a god?" Gods are immortal for a reason. They must always prevail over their creations. To defeats god is by no means a menial task. The god paused and crossed his arms over his chest. What bothers me more is that now, the Void seems to be but a pawn in Nak'Sora's game. Their union might grant them a great advantage...but you have a trump of your own.
"The book?" Nexhawk glanced at the tome hanging from his belt.
Precisely. Sol'Krin nodded. This is why it becomes more and more paramount to acquire the second Eye as soon as possible. Find Sandromin and Conyr and venture to the Logipriest island.
"Yes, my lord." Nexhawk bowed his head in reverence, but then remembered one more thing. "Nak'Sora mentioned-"
That she will hurt your people? Don't worry. I will be keeping a closer eye on the Ashborn. And with that, Sol'Krin's apparition dissipated into the air.
Nexhawk rose painfully and surveyed the battlefield. He frowned upon seeing the army of golems assault Alexinus' ranks and limped to his Phoenix, meanwhile processing his conversation with the god of the sun. So what now? |
