Laughter, bellowing laughter from the burly guard at front. The whole squad soon followed in the laughter. His face was red and tears shot down his hot cheeks. After a whole minute he finally regained his composure.
"Surrender? Take you to our king? Do you even have an idea where you are? You're in Gran Arcadia fool! There is no king here. In the name of the Dorado Syndicate, I, Captain Aidan Thessalis, hereby place you all under arrest. That girl is property of Count Verifaux and the Verifaux Family. She is to return to his manor so that he may do as he see fit. Franklin Bertrandium, for espionage, counterfeiting, smuggling, scamming, sabotage, and aiding criminal activities. You will face life in prison, till death do you part. Giant...thingperson... for mass destruction, assault on government workers and the guard, mass murder and inciting terror, you will face either death or exile. Of course exile is only the case if you survive the death penalty."
With a wave of his hand a group of guards are summoned dragging with them a large wheeled cannon facing the giant's chest. "Take aim! Ready!" Time seems to slow as a guard begins to light the fuse. However the proceeding is interrupted when a guard begins slowly making his way to the front. "Fall back into formation officer, what do you think you're doing?" The guard with a middle aged face and red moustache continues calmly down the aisle of guards in front of the captain. Before the captain could speak, his breath was stolen. A shocked look plastered his face. He looked to the man in front of him, then back down toward his chest. He can see blood dripping. His throat had been slit. For a moment everyone is shocked. Still as statues. Except for the peculiar guard. He quickly from his waist tosses an object. It was the dagger used to kill the captain. With precision the dagger cleanly cuts through the hand of a guard lighting the fuse as well as the fuse itself. The quickly raise their rifles and begin to shoot at him, not quickly enough... The guard swiftly pulls out his rifle and fires, taking out three others. He rolls under their fire and approaches another, shoving his rifle into the man's stomach then firing, effectively killing him and the man behind him. He runs toward a tall stack of crates against a wall, pivoting his way passed gunfire and sabers aimed toward his throat. The men's rifles run out of ammunition quickly(the only drawback considering the reloading process is long and tedious) and they take to sabers. He climbs the crates and jumps toward the wall kicking off of it and spinning in the air. As he spins his garments begins to spin off revealing a light skinned young man wearing leather armor. Whilst in midair he drops several small pellets that burst into smoke, as he lands safely in the haze. A blinded guard manages to to strike him, but only grazing his cheeks as he flips backwards to evade the full blow. He counterattacks with a throwing knife through the neck. As the smoke clears he is struck from behind by a lucky guard. The blow to the shoulder causes him to lose his footing as well as his knifes. He finds himself flanked on three sides as another wave of guards approach from the front. From his side he grabs a shiny object. " Silver revolver eh?" mutters Franklin. With a single swift motion the man pivots in a circular motion. Shooting the guards at his sides and rear. Before he can concentrate on the foes in front of him he is met with another blow to the chest. He smirks, "How lucky, you missed the important parts." He shoves one final dagger into the man's heart before jumping back and pulling out the sword. He looks in Brutus' direction as the rest of the guards slowly approach him. He silently mouths the name, Sara... Everything gets fuzzy and his heart feels empty. He slowly lets the darkness overtake his vision... But suddenly the guards before him disappear followed by a loud boom. Brutus had thrown the large cannon, taking out the rest. He quickly jolts back into the realm of the living and walks towards the three. Franklin lets out a bellowing laugh.
"I almost thought you were done for you no good bastard! Haha! Let me introduce you to our giant friend here, Brutus. As well Brutus let me introduce you to the Snake of Illusion." |

Let us pray that we can face whatever is inside. Nexhawk's thoughts were filled with anxiety and worries as he watched from above how Thanatos approached the clinic. He saw the Diyadian king struggle while sprinting on his trek to the entrance. Is it an affliction? Or something resisting him from the inside of the building?
Nexhawk was not taking any chances. He murmured something to the phoenix that was flying next to his own mount and pointed at Thanatos. The fiery bird descended towards Thanatos and hovered, unnoticed, five meters above him. Meanwhile, Nexhawk directed Fel'ir at the clinic's rooftop. The creature landed silently in the middle of the roof, and the Ashborn peered into one of the windows that presented a clear view of the entrance and the persons of interest - Xavier and a Diyadian whose skin Nexhawk saw as seeping with dark purple fluids. Sure enough, as he tried to probe the man's magical powers, only Void was present.
Sol'Krin give us strength, silently prayed Nexhawk, conjuring a fireball in each hand and readying himself for the assault. |

Conyr lay with his hands behind his head, stretched out flat on the soft ground, tufts of sand tickling his back.
The stars gleamed and winked, their light bringing Conyr a sense of companionship.
Conyr's breath hitched, and he struggled airlessly for a moment, before his windpipe expanded and he gulped in the cold night air.
As his breathing returned to normal, the logipriest frowned. He hadn't recalled a problem with his lungs that his powers couldn't heal. But then again, that encounter with the lady... Conyr was glad his only companions were the stars, for they didn't and would never laugh at his blush. They simply continued to wink, mysteriously, promising and breaking promises.
Conyr felt a tickling on his chest, and he lifted his head from his palms to see an ant crawling across him. Conyr smiled. Perhaps it wasn't only the stars who didn't care for his thoughts. Conyr liked that. He let his head back down, and thought about that. Thought about the calmness, broken only by soft cries and calls. The quiet, interspersed with the rustling of leaves and creaking of trunks. Nature was powerful in its own way.
Conyr considered that new ache in his chest, the ache which yearned for the sky. He saw the Hakyi, steering his Wyngad, the joy intermingled with concentration etched on his face.

Brutus stared at the snake of illusion for a minute. Then the giant got on a knee and bowed his head to his savior. "Thank you. " the snake and Franklin both looked astonished that the stubborn giant would actually bow in respect. "You are good man." The giant stood up and looked down on the man. The snake stood with his mouth open for a moment. "Um...well yes. It was nothing. Nothing at all." The snake then looked at Sara and smiled. "Hello Sara. Are you alright?" "Yes, mister Brutus and mister Franklin have been watching over me." The snake again looked over to Brutus and then approvingly at Franklin. "Now. If snake man does not mind. Brutus is going to crush the very fox man for trying to hurt Sara and Franklin." The giant got ready to turn when Franklin stopped him. "Brutus you can't just go and try to, erm, crush someone. " The giant turned to his portly friend. "No one tries to hurt friends with out repercussion. " "Do you even know who they are?" The snaked asked in a cold fashion. "Do not care. No one tries to hurt my friends." Franklin felt a great pride from the giant, he had few actual friends in the world, and almost none who would actually risk their life for him. "Point Brutus in direction." "You can't just attack a well established family."said the snake. "Brutus doesn't want anyone else to be hurt by the strong. Brutus is a protector, and Brutus will protect these people." "Brutus, you can't go. What about Sara." Asked the portly doctor. "Franklin said snake man can protect Sara. Brutus sees now Franklin was right." The giant looked at the snake in approval. "Are you really going to leave Brutus?" A small sweet voice asked. The giant looked down to his young companion. Tears had stained her face. The giant kneeled down by the young girl, his eyes brimming with sadness. "Yes Sara, Brutus has to go." "But why? Why can't you stay with me and Franklin and the snake?" "Because Brutus is a big target. As long as Brutus is by you. You are in trouble." "But, you're my friend... Please don't leave me." The little girl hugged the giant tightly small tears mixed with drops of rain as the sky began to cry as well. The giant ever so gently wrapped his arms around the little girl, like a wall protecting her from the harsh world that floated in the skies. The giant stood up and looked at the snake. "The Verifaux. Are they good or bad people snake man? Because if they are bad. Brutus will make them hurt for making people suffer."

"HEAVE! Gods dammit, heave! Those siege engines have wheels, use them! You there, put some real effort in. While we're at it, dirty uniform. Consider yourself on report! I'm going start beating people if you don't start working as a team! Private security's made you all soft, you call yourselves Venezzians? Heave!"
Alixenus saved compliments and inspiration for soldiers he knew. It was punishments and yelling for those he didn't. Especially for a batch of Marines as sorry as this lot. Even without full armour on, they were struggling to push the Ballistas through Karthage back to where Thanatos and Nexhawk had taken off from. The very fittest amongst them were carrying the Scorpios across their shoulders, others had ropes and grapnel bolts. But even they were beginning to tire, despite only being about a third of a way up to the top. They were wet, cold and miserable, yet somehow that did not motivate them to move faster.
"This is intolerable! You've brought shame to your families and the Lords you serve. I'm getting some real Venezzians to help me." With that he gestured to a couple of knightly-looking DIyadian soldiers. After Alixenus explained the situation one ran to get more help while the other started pushing on of the Ballistas. Very soon that team began to leave the rest behind. A single look from Alixenus inspired, or rather terrified, the rest into trying to catch up.
"I bet if I offered coin we'd already be there wouldn't we?" A few heads pricked up like the Monitor Lizards that live in the wilderness of the Republic. Alixenus sighed at this reaction. Even at the behest of a Republic officer, in the driving rain, these men wouldn't do their utmost unless there was a reward. "Fine. Given the circumstances, 10 gold Florins for team that gets their Ballista to the end first" |

The tempest over Karthage continued unabated. Such was the ferocity of the storm that roads became brooks and streams as the sewage systems and water table failed to contain the deluge. Sandromin continued to look on at the floating facility, searching with his vision, both mundane and otherworldly, for any sign of Thanatos' progress. The rest of the party has seeked shelter indoors, but Sandromin kept his vigil. As he observed Nexhawk circle far above he detected, despite the thunderous sound and fury of the storm, the sound of marching feet and metal grinding on stone. Looking over to where he heard the disturbance he saw Alixenus walking towards him from the descending road he had disappeared down what seemed like at least a half hour ago. Tension has a way of stretching time.
Then slowly, up that road came Ballistas, pushed by both Venezzian and Diyadian working in unison thanks to an old labourers chant that had somehow survived Diyad's separation from it's progenitor. The men with the Scorpios and bolts and slowed down and joined in the chant, it seemed to raise their spirits more than competing to be first. As the men readied the weapons Alixenus finally explained his plan to Sandromin.
"This is still a contingency, but I like to be ready. If Thanatos and Nexhawk appear to be in any situation they can't handle, or they cannot bring that flying fortress down to us so that we may join the battle, I will order these men to fire Grapnel bolts into the facility. Either we then climb the ropes attached to the bolts, or we pull the whole damn thing down to us! So Sandromin, has there been any sign from up there?" |

Frost held his breath as another horde of ferals passed him by. It was atleast the tenth in only a span of maybe, two hours. The shade, pyg and two others that had joined the small company crouched nearby. Krathisis was hiding behind a building across the street with another giant, some female that they had come across. Frost looked at his small group, the three new additions had been less eventful in their joining than the others. Frost simply woke up to them. The shade told him that they had been following them since Krathisis joined. One of them, Garth, was a vanguard that had been on an expidition, which was torn to shreds. He only survived by "running like a hell hound from holy water." The other, Jarrick was a scavanger, finding old weapons, food supplies and other such things scattered around the city for years. Apparently he was in the city because he was from an old settlement that was destroyed twenty years ago. Why he had fled deeper into feral territory was beyond frost. Lastly there was the female giant, she didn't share much about herself only telling her name, Erika. The shade tapped frost on the shoulder. He snapped out of his train of thought. The last of the ferals shuffled by groaning. The party waited for a few tense minutes then when the final echo's of the dead men fittingly died down. "Well, that was fun." Quipped Garth, who frost found was never short on words. No one else added a comment. And there was only silence for several minutes, aside from the occasional far off groan and the shifting of armor from either the vanguard or one of the giants. Finally out of all the party the shade spoke. "...we...should...leave...the...city..." "Are you sure shade?" Frost asked slightly shocked that the shade broke the silence. "...positive..." "I...agree." Krathisis slowly said. "Me too." Garth said, unsurprisingly. "Do we even know which way to go?" Erika quietly voicing her opinion. "I know where we at." Croaked Jarrick in a gritty voice that sounded like glass being grinded with metal. "We, is by my old haunt." "That doesn't help." Sighed frost. "Yeah it do's. we just head that'a way." The scavenger pointed the same way the horde had recently shuffled. Frost looked at the scavenger like he was crazy, which considering ,was extremely likely. "...lets...get...moving..." And without any further discussion the shade began walking down the street and was eventually swallowed by the familiar mist. Frost looked around at his other companions. Erika was the first to follow, then pyg, then Garth then Jarrick who went off running. Krathisis looked to the young ranger. "I...suppose we should get going?" "Yeah."the giant lumbered a step then looked back at frost. "Something...wrong?" "No, I'm just thinking." Frost began to jog by the giant as he lumbered forward in a slow motion. The short trek to the others was silent aside from the dragging of chains and the rhythmic steps of the large giant. After catching up to the rest of the group the journey became uneventful for the rest of the day. Garth chattered away, like Dravek almost, just older. And slightly more annoying. Most of the other were silent, aside from pyg who as usual grumbled about something or other. And frost as he had grown accustomed to thought about the tent city and its inhabitants. He thought of his friends of their families, of Reta. Especially Reta. He wondered if she was alright, if she was waiting for him...his thoughts were cut off as a horrible scream came from behind him. Frost turned on his heels so quickly he fell from the slick ground. A feral was running, no, sprinting at him. The feral was so different than others, it was coordinated, it was not groaning like others it was screeching. But the worst thing about it was the fact it was armed, with a sword. What ferals used swords? Frost scrambled to get to his feet and drew his own blade. The feral was closing in fast. Frost had barely a second to raise guard before the beast was upon him. "DIE,WARM BLOOD!" The feral shouted in a guttural voice that carried the scent of worm and rot. Frost almost threw up from the fear he had right now. This was no feral, or atleast it wasn't normal, this thing was some spawn from the very pits of hell itself. Frost parried another swing as the beast shouted. Where were his allies? Had he been left? He silently damned them as the beast swung with both hands. The force sent frost to a knee. He rolled out of the way as the monster made another overhead swing. As frost finished his defensive roll he hurled himself into a standing position and began to sprint to where his "allies" would be. He heard the demon screaming behind him about meat and bile and blood. He didn't dare look back. Frost kept running, and running until he saw why his allies couldn't help him. More of these beast had come from the wood work. Garth was barely holding on as he fought one that wielded a large axe. The shade was in a pitched battle between two of the beast yelling about the "first". Krathisis was fighting a few giants. Jarrick was no where to be seen. Pyg however seemed to be in his happy place as he was pushing back his opponent, laughing about a feast of flesh. Frost was momentarily stunned as he watched the battle he wondered where Erika and Jarrick were. His question was answered as Jarrick came into view, the crazy man was holding onto one of the beast stabbing it with a dagger repeatedly, Erika was close by as well. In a wrestling match with a very large creature. Frost was petrified in fear. What were these thing were had they come from? But his questions would have to be answered later, because his own attacker had reappeared. "DIE YOU SACK OF SUCCULENT FLESH AND BLOOD! BLEED FOR MEEEEE!" Frost was just quick enough to block swing of the monsters sword. This would be the most terrifying moment of his young life so far. And quite possibly, the last... |

Are you going to bring down the whole medical facility? Are we really that dangerous?

Thanatos wrote:Void agreed with the dwarf. It was almost time to go.Almost. However he could not take his mind off of what he had heard. He chuckled and murmured to himself:
"Soul is what makes you human, naive dwarf. Flesh? Hehe...merely the building block for organisms. All flesh comes from Dust. When one dies, only their flesh remains. Only the soul ascends to the heavens. To the living the flesh is but a memory of life, the soul is eternal..."
Would one wish to live, to remember forever, or rather to be remembered forever... for living? What does one remember? Their presence or their existence? The being or the Dust? Xavier chuckled a bit. He did always have a fascination for philosophy and those "What Are We" questions. It was cute. It was amusing. It was a test of wits, those questions were. Xavier knew he was going to have much fun with Void, much fun...
He looked into his soulless, pulsating face. "An interesting question, comrade. Multiple answers may be given, since this is an open question and all. But I must definitely believe that..."
Something caught Xavier's. It was not the boy, no. The boy was not important anymore. He was just writhing, getting swept away in the flow of life. It was something peculiar. Something, threatening. It was... a phoenix. The man on it was instantly recognizable. Xavier could never forget the old man's face. It was Nexhawk himself, with fire in his hands.
Xavier went into a fighting stance. "I do believe it is time to go, Void." |

Dammit!
The instant Xavier's eyes met his own, Nexhawk knew his cover has been blown. Most likely, he figured, Xavier's senses have been bolstered by the corruption in his mind. He noticed the cold resolve in the Dwarf's eyes, and that resolve showed most clearly that the fight was unavoidable. The relief, then, came in the fact that both Xavier's and the Diyadian's gazes were drawn towards Nexhawk, thus rendering Thanatos, who was approaching the main entrance, virtually unnoticeable for their eyes. The Ashborn deliberately held the stare and looked into Xavier's eyes, hoping to buy some time until Thanatos was spotted or revealed himself.

Summary? I want to give it a shot this time.
Okay... back in the start, Sandy created this thread, and Alixenus pounced on it immediately. Both of them were happy trading and such, forming an alliance against potential unseen threats.
Then I, being a newbie on the forum and looking for somewhere to allow me to assimilate into the community, found it.
Me, being me, created the logipriests. We like to make love and be green. Essentially hippies with Restorative powers that rival those of the Dragonborn. (see Skyrim)
Alixenus, probably spurred by the idea of healer-(sex)-slaves, decided to assault me. The assault (kind of done in the form that the thread meant assaults to happen) ended in a draw.
Things begin to escalate from there, and it's really all a blur of craziness.
Essentially, after Sandy turns my logipriests into Santa Claus and I distribute chocolate (without any fattening side effects) across Mediterra (name of the continent where most of us are situated), Xavier, Brutus, Galrick and Thanatos realised that I was making the thread too trivial.
SPOILER ALERT (for Game of Thrones, Book 1)
So, combining their story-telling prowess, the three of them join the story (not together, I think it was Xavier, then Brutus, Galrick, then Thanatos?) and take up the strands of the epic tale, weaving it into something that wouldn't be out of place next to George. R.R. Martin (see Game of Thrones). Currently, however, we are lacking in deaths of favourite characters. (WHY DID YOU KILL NED STARK, MARTIN. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU)
END SPOILER ALERT
Anyway, the economics of the tale quickly fell away after I created a half-baked post about my logipriests being revealed the end of the world (which, by the way, I have plans to avert.). Thanatos took up that thread and expanded on it, and thus we introduced Elder Gods into our story, beings similar to the Dwarvish gods in Christopher Paolini's Eragon series. Basically, they created the world, yadayada, got into an argument, and Fate was the bad girl.
Then Nexhawk got involved and well, things heated up quickly from there. (see what I did there?). Him and his fiery buddies burned their way into our paths with a tear-jerking story of being trumped by Hydromancers, in a similar fashion to how a Blastoise would douse a Charizard.
Brutus, in the background, also weaves the tale of his people, and the fate (oooh) that has afflicted his homeland.
Sandy keeps us on track with lore and technology, which kind of stifles the potential for Galrick to capitalise on his robot race, but hey, we're getting there.
OH, how could I forget. Before Nexhawk got involved, there was a huge disease which turned all my logipriests into zombies, which invaded Xavier's mountainous Lucia for blood and brains.
Alixenus, Sandromin and Xavier sought a solution to the problem.
What the three of them found was Thanatos, in the Badlands. He explained... lots of things... in his airship. There was essentially a temple on my island with a book, and this book, well, it was more than that. It had to be destroyed, however, to free the logipriests from their craving for brains.
So they did. Only, things go wrong, and once the spell upon my race was nullified Thanatos (which I only recently realised was Death. How clever, and how ironic) kills himself, and Xavier runs off with the book. The book, possessing malevolent dark power, decides to do a Gollum on Xavier and slowly chips away at his sanity, eventually resulting in the dwarf king (who is as tall as a tall man) losing his grip on reality, and it appears he's slowly returning to it in the current posts.
My race is left decimated, and Galrick seizes this opportunity to enter into the story, and his robots apprehend me and the other five remaining logipriests. Brutus, having recently befriended Conyr, tries in vain to save the boy.
As Venezzia, fresh from my zombie assault (definitely not done in the form that the thread was meant to follow), picks up the pieces, this was when my logipriests magically vanished from Galrick's testing facility (Brutus was stuck in another chamber, and he eventually gets out too) and are exposed to the prophecy of Fate. (wow, that has a nice ring to it.)
Galrick's Collective detects strange solar activity, confirming the impending supernova which will decimate the planet.
Fate takes a massive part in the rest of the events, and the story is currently revolving around stopping her.
If I missed anything, please slap me and add/correct my post. |

OOC: I believe you covered every salient point my good man/logipriest/thing. Just FYI for when Connyr enters Venezzia, the bounty on Natyli is still unclaimed, and I'm sure the Republic wouldn't mind paying the bounty for Connyr's capture. Also Luna, I know that Xavier tempts you to his side with offers of Cookies, but I offer the vast funds of the Republic to pay for your assassins. And some Calzone. |

Void had caught Xavier's stare at the fiery lord. Void's eyes were empty of emotions, his clear skin was smooth and lacked the wear and wrinkles unique to human expressions. The only way you could tell what he was thinking, was by his menacing grin, wide and twisted. He looked to Xavier and answered him nonchalantly, "Yes, we should be going now.." He raised his hand hand and before them there was a shimmer in the air, one similar to the effect of magick cloaks of invisibility. Xavier looked to the shimmer with a puzzled expression. For it was not a shimmer, but a ripple in space. The stagnant energy of the space being torn was drawn into Void. The ripple opened up revealing a portal. Th effects of the ripple began to suck all of the furniture and equipment from the building including some of the walls leaving nothing but a large empty room. As they entered the unstable portal they completely disappeared, almost as if they never existed. It simply looked like a white stained glass. But then the white went pitch black. The black was illuminated by the stars and nebulae of space. In the distance was a throne seating an all too familiar goddess. He waved his arm toward the portal as to direct Xavier to enter. On the other side Fate beckoned him. His mind was far too gone now to resist even her weakest attempts at tempting him. He silently entered through the spatial doorway. As he walked towards Fate he felt absence, not Void, but of him. Void had not followed. He tried to lean his head out of the portal to call him, but to no avail. It felt like a thick wall of glass was prohibiting his exit. "No need to worry, they only work one way. If I recall correctly retrieving you was my primary task, I have one more thing to take care of don't I?" Fate nodded silently with a smile. Like a simple decoration he violently pushed the portal to the opposite side of the room. He looked towards Nexhawk. Nak'Sora doesn't take kindly to unexpected guess. Nexhawk caught his glance and maintained eye contact. As long as he was drawn to him only, they had the strategic advantage of a surprise attack. Thanatos had deduced his intentions and began to dart around the corner and scale the wall. Waiting for the PERFECT moment. Void screamed, "I said no guests!" He raised his hand and a large portion of the upper wall before him had ripped away an been sucked into him, fully revealing Nexhawk atop his phoenix. "I see, a pyromancer?" He laughed and took an aggressive stance. " Finally an opponent to truly test my power. He reached behind and a large orb of energy formed in his hand, he launched it in Nexhawk's direction. |

No! Nexhawk looked helplessly as Xavier entered the portal and disappeared from his field of view. It was clear as day where his companion has teleported him. Strangely enough, however, the Void himself stayed, apparently in order to fight Nexhawk.
Nexhawk watched curiously as the orb of unknown energy was flying towards him. He finally snapped his fingers, and the two fireballs in his hands transformed into a wall of flames in front of Nexhawk. The Void's attack hit the barrier, and both the orb and the fiery wall dissipated in the air. After this, Nexhawk did not hesitate. His mount leaped into the air above the Void with grace possessed only by Phoenixes.
And then, the Ashborn leader jumped off Fel'ir.
Midair, Nexhawk took note of the spot on the ground that would put the Void's back towards Thanatos, granted that the former faced Nexhawk in that spot. Hence, the Fiery Lord directed his body at that spot and called upon his infernal powers to aid him in the descent. Winds of flame surged all around Nexhawk, and as he lunged towards the ground, feet first, he left a column of fire in his wake.
In two moments, Nexhawk the living meteor hit the ground, landing safely on his feet. However, the explosion caused by the collision and centered at Nexhawk's landing spot shook the base and sent fiery cracks running away from the point of impact. The cracks spewed lava out of them which, along with the shockwaves from the collision, rushed towards the Void. At the same time, Nexhawk's Phoenix charged at his master's opponent and attacked him with its fiery claws. |

*Lore Bomb*
The city of Venezzia part 2.
The Western district of the city, so called as sticks out into the sea on large headland, is in fact the oldest part of the city. It was upon that soil countless years ago that Venezzia's forefathers found a fertile river delta, disguarded their nomad's cloaks and established a small fishing Hamlet. The Delta still exists today, in the form of the channels and cannals that run all through the district. The other two districts have some cannals of their own, but nowhere near as many. Two of the largest actually run along the North and South borders of the district, dividing it from the other two. This was a deliberate design to make the area more defensible, as this is the military and administrative heart of the Republic. The most impressive, ornate, ancient, important and fortified structures in the entirety of Venezzia can be found here. Multiple Barracks are interspersed throughout the district, similar in size to a noblemans compound, but the similarities end there. The walls are composed of thick set, close fitting Stone. At the centre is a muster yard, its cobbles worn flat by countless parades and drill excercises. The actual buildings within are not quite as strong, composed of Plastered Brick with low sloping roofs. Inside is everything you would expect a soldier to need. Bed, Food, Drink, Medicine. But perhaps unique to Venezzian barracks for common soldiers, there is also a classroom. Venezzians consider verbal skills as important as combat prowess, at the very least so that the Men at arms can put any potential Custers in their place when they suggest a suicidal plan. They are also taught to read and write, an additional reward for their service. Knowledge may be power, but those on top in Venezzia trust the peasants not to use it to rebel.
Merchants too train their private forces, but the quantity and quality of training varies wildly. The facilities too differ. Often they will throw tradition to the wind and design a Barracks that is a fortress in it's own right. This is not seen as problem; anything to make the City even harder to capture. Alixenus was trained at what was once the Adventurer's guild, but is now known only as 'The Rock'. There is a legend in the city that says that every other muster yard takes in boys and turns out men, but only The Rock produces soldiers. Indeed, anyone trained in this place is considered easily a match for even the very best of the Republic's own forces, but again, Merchants are not begrudged this kind of power.
Massive foundries also lie in this district, ready to produce enough weapons to arm the entire Republic at a moments notice. Most still produce arms and armour by hand, but a few pour steel directly into a series of moulds, the work is then finished by master smiths. Now that new technology has begun trickling in from Diyad and the collective, the Republic's Military/Industrial capacity is expected to do nothing expand dozens of times over.
Further inland are the minds that control these thousands of keen blades. The office of military Strategy is name that belies the towering palace that houses the Republic's supreme commanders, officer school, jousting lists and Treasury. From it's Balconies it is possible to observe the entire city. To any guest of the city they would assme, upon looking at the fine statuary and grand domed roof, that it was another Palace for the Doge, such is the beauty of the place. For it was soldiers that saved the Republic from countless perils, so they recieve nothing but reverence from the people...and a very significant defence budget. The offices of various other departments: Infantry, Siege works, Logisitics etc. are smaller, more understated blocks around the district, but are identifiable from one another to the lay thanks to the uniquely coloured banners that each one flies from its Balcony that a long enough to reach the ground on a still day. On the Nothern border of the district is the House of the Broken Lance. Originally a town house for one of the city's wealthier freemen, legend says that in the age of adventurers it became a place mercenary Knights could meet up with their companions if they were seperated in battle. Hence these 'broken lances' would become whole again. These days it is one of the more popular soldiers Taverns. And it was here, if you remember that far back, that Alixenus was trapped by loyalist forces during the civil war as he tried to lay siege to the Doges' Palace. It was only thanks to the strength of its walls and commanding position that he was able to hold.
Laslty, the coastline of the Western district is entirely consumed by Shipwrights and Drydocks. There are also a few experimental siege labs, testing out new weapons of war, not least designs reverse-engineered from plans provided by the Guild of Knowledge. The docks are never wholly out of use. There is always a Galley that needs repairs, or a Caravel that needs it's timbers replaced. Or, as is the case now, the Republic is busy putting the finishing touches on its latest seabourne doomsday weapon. In this case, its Scylla, the second ship of her class, first to bear the name, and will likely be first to send Venezzians to Scorched Lavania. |

Void's grin, a devilish grin indeed. Oh how he grinned so wide and hungry. As large fiery fowl move in for an attack he quickly rolled ahead, straight into the lava. The phoenix pulled up from it's attack and positioned itself to swoop back down. Void emerged from the lava unharmed. In fact his transparent skin had a dark red tint similar to stained glass. Almost like a zombie he slumped up using his strength to straighten his back and lift his head. His smile did not break.
"Is that all? It seems you'll also disappoint me."
The lava began to flow up from the ground and formed two large swirling balls in his hands. He leaped upwards and darted downwards towards Nexhawk, throwing one of the balls towards him. Nexhawk quickly hops to the side and watches the lava harden into black rock as it hits the ground, the heat is absorbed into Void, who lands several metres behind. The second ball in his left hand begins to form around his arm. The lava hardens revealing a large simmering black sword growing from his arm. Without warning he dashes swiftly in Nexhawks direction, leaving him little time to react. As he draws close he swings his massive sword upwards towards Nexhawk's right shoulder...
Meanwhile Thanatos surveys the battle. Observing possible weaknesses that Void may have. He seemed to have none. He was fast, strong, agile, he could absorb seemingly anything. What could possibly beat him.........
...Halvedes, he was Halvedes. Thanatos knows HIM. Aha! Halvedes was a pawn at least. Thanatos remembered that. He had lived and died in this world many times. That's exactly why he made Halvedes part of the council. He was greedy, he was intelligent, he couldn't drink a glass of port without falling over. Thanatos had planned for Halvedes to gain Xavier's trust, which he did. Once that happened he had easy access to Xavier and any plan that Fate had. Yet she had to go and intervene. How dangerous. Smart, but dangerous and too risky even for her. She must have been desperate. Halvedes was Thanatos' pawn all along. He had all of his actions planned... until now. Now Thanatos had nothing. Nothing... except that he KNOWS Halvedes. He also knows that Halvedes often purposefully reveals his own weakness, especially when he knows he'll win anyway. He likes to push his opponent to defeat him. When he doesn't, Halvedes ends him. This however only accounts for political situations, but it should also apply in combat. But the question still remains, what is his weakness?
OOC: Fun Fact: That pawn thing is something I'd thought up back before the Assembly. |

Back on the ground, all everyone else could do is look on with anxiety gripping their souls as they watched the facility explode in flames as Nexhawk attacked. The Marines and Diyadians had taken shelter beneath a nearby arch; Alkhemistry provided some warmth in form of a fueless, smokeless blue flame. Alixenus toyed with his sword in its scabbard, flicking it out a small way, then putting it back in. He knew he shouldn't, all he was doing was getting rain in there. But he couldn't help it. He'd never fought magic before, Logipriests notwithstanding and never had there been an enemy he couldn't reach.
Nerves before battle, that was something he had not felt since the first time he went to war. After that moment, it was impatience that plagued him. He wanted to see the foe over the horizon, around the next corner. His Horse was eager to run, his armour yearned to be tested, his weapons sang for blood. But not now, this was something completely unknown. He drew his sword. To everyone else, it looked like he was inspecting it. But Alixenus was listening for its song. There was none. |

Dravek sat at his sisters bed side as she coughed up more blood. Dravek was trying his best to console his youngest sister as grim examined her. "Dravek, a word?" "You just said three." The little five year old giggled weakly then began to cough again. "Dravek..." "Alright. Emna try to stay awake okay? I have to talk to grim. Alright?" "Okay." She sounded saddened that her brother was leaving her side, if only for a moment. Dravek got up from his seat and walked to a corner with his ranger companion. Dravek spoke in a low tone so his sister couldn't hear. "How is she?" Grim was silently staring at the ground. "Grim tell me. You said you needed a word no tell me what you wanted to say." "I can't save her..." He was almost in audible. "What? Grim please, tell mean that you said you CAN save her. Please tell me that she'll be alright." Darvek's hushed voice was frantic, asking a question he knew an answer to. Dravek grabbed Grim's collar and held him. "Tell me she'll be fine , Grim! " "I can't lie to a friend, Dravek... I can do a lot, of horrible, horrible things...but I can't lie to a friend AND fellow ranger." Grim moved Darvek's hands away from his collar. "I'm so-" grim starts but Dravek cut him off. "Don't!" Dravek had to compose himself since he yelled the word. "Don't, give me any of your pity...I don't want it."Dravek slumped down In a chair beside his sister and covered his eyes. "Dravek...I'm." Grim trailed off as he saw the blood shot eyes of his friend look up at him. The message was clear. "I'll be leaving now. Good bye Dravek." Grim turned and left, Dravek didn't say a word and for a whole minute he kept his face covered from his sister. "Dravek?" A small weak voice piped up. "Dravek, are you alright?" "Yeah, I'm fine Emna. See?" Dravek smiled half heatedly at his youngest sister. "Dravek what's wrong?" She knew when her brother was faking. All his siblings knew. Dravek pursed his lips and hugged his sister tight and began to weep like he did when his mother had gotten the same disease. He wept for what spelt like and eternity. He knew that his sister was not long for the world now. "Dravek?" The weak voice said again. "Big brother...don't cry." She sounded so weak as she began to cough again. Dravek let go of his sister and patted her back as black blood covered her once pure white night gown. When she was finished she looked at her brother. "Don't cry big brother..." "Why Emna? Why shouldn't I cry?" He said this almost bursting into tears. "Because." The little girl piped. She was playing a game that they had always played. Dravek would ask a question and his sister would always say because. 'Enma, why is the sky blue?' 'because. "But why Emma?" "Because I'll get to see mommy again." The little girl was starting to cry too, she knew what death was, and she knew that the Spector would soon come for her as well. "I'll get to see mommy and I'll tell her what a good big brother you." The little girl hugged her elder brother and hid her face in the cloth of Darvek's shoulder. And she wept like the day she was born. And Dravek held her close to him as his siter sobbed and coughed blood on his clothing. Dravek just sat there with his sister until she fell asleep. Dravek still held her close, but he knew, as painful as the thought was , he knew he'd have to let her go, both physically and metaphorically. He laid his sister down on the bed and pulled the cover up to her chin. He then tucked the sides of her blanket under her little form. He got up and looked at his sister. She looked so peaceful now, asleep and curled up in a blanket adorned with pictures of little animals playing games of hide an seek. He had found it, almost brand new in an old ruin. No one could recreate anything like it now. And yet here it was now corrupted by black blood. It's form defiled. Dravek stood looking at the cover for minutes until he finally decided to leave his sisters side. He gently kissed her fore head like he had done every night for five years and softly stroked he dark hair and hummed a nursery rhyme tune. It had always let her sleep easier. And even when his young sister finally breathed her last small breath he still sat there humming a tune and silently weeping as history repeated itself. |
