It's violence often times for violence's sake, it's a gore party headed up by characters that are so ridiculous in their interactions with eachother and with the main characters as to border on self parody. I shouldn't need to remind anyone of the first couple episode's main villain being foiled in part by students chucking books out of the window at a terrorist who rigged a school up with bombs or the flamboyant couple who would go on attempting to save the world through the power of their love!
It's almost power rangers in its execution.

Oh, and the main character is basically Natsu.
Yeah no, the thing is straight up a derivative work of Attack on Titan with the main character being presented as an almost carbon copy of Erin "Gotta kill all the Titans Vampires" Jaeger. Then throw all the basic shounen tropes at me, power of friendship, super special power ups, blah blah blah. I've seen this show 20 other times with a different twist.

That's a pretty low threshold you have for similarities. I wouldn't relate the two nearly as much, as Erin pretty much stays a whiney ***** constantly with no real bad-assery given to him other then turning titan. His only moments of being cool was taken from him almost as fast as it was given to him. And his dramatic scenes all came from the very same point: His life sucks. Better have someone else fix it for him.
He never got closer to his comrades, the story never put any time in fleshing out it's characters. Seraph takes a much better approach. You're given your AoT moments in the first episode, then it goes to a high school life, then switches back to the action. It never beats you over the head with it's themes of Vampires, curses, or the world.
AoT did nothing but beat you in the head with how terrible there world and situation constantly was.
I don't blame you for relating the two, but AoT has some serious flaws that almost seemed fixed when compared to Seraph. |

Ysmada-Kun and the Seven Witches ends.
And even though it ends well I'm disappointed. The series was obviously rushed, and could of been REALLY good, instead we get this good enough version.
What do we really know of any of the characters? I know blondie doesn't really like to study, and that she... has a home with a family, I think?
The main guy was a delinquent for no reason in his other school, came to next school for new start... and failed?
The witches, subtract the green haired one, were all interesting and could of easily been given arks instead of episodes. Funny part is, even though the show goes out of it's way to say the powers are given to certain girls with certain problems, it doesn't explain why. Or how the choice is made.
It's so terribly half assed done and rushed when you start to break down the characters, the interactions, reasonings for working together, that it becomes hard to think I actually enjoyed the watch as much as I did.
but I did, and I score the show 7.9/10, I wanted to give it an 8, but there's just too many flaws.
one being the best part of the show is how it ends. smh |

Let me start this off by saying I ultimately don't like this show. It's not that it failed to deliver emotionally or had bad characters, they were just bland.
The only truly interesting character was the loli, the more you learn of her the more you like her. Next most interesting is the Tsundere, she may be as generic as they come but her spirit and thoughtfulness made her an enduring character, especially next to the carbon-replicated cast next to her. She would of been a better character without the blonde kid making her tsundere antics go through the roof.
0 depths were given to any character but 3. We actually learn more of the director of the Agency's background with his family through constant jokes then we know about LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE.
tidbits are given here and there about the protagonist relationship under the scenes with the company, and other such stuff between the co-workers, but none of it was explored.
So what that left the show was a completely tunnel vision plot line aiming for one thing: The ending.
was a good ending, didn't feel rushed, and had a nice twist to really make the tears come out. But it was so painfully obvious the show was just planning to set up that moment that every other episode began to feel like a grind to the finish line.
And the scene they showed after the credits nearly infuriated me and took me out of my tears and into confusion.
They really, really should of left the last 10 seconds out. |

The flaws you point out for AoT are all pretty much the highlights for me compared to Seraph. The whole switch back to happy go lucky highschool life that Seraph throws at you is so jarring compared to the objective bleakness of the world around them. They live in a small bastion of paradise surrounded by a dominant life form that seeks to use them as livestock and the show, 2 episodes in, switches immediately to "Erin, you have to go make friends! :D" Blech.
As for the 'never getting closer to his comrades' I really have to disagree, his entire thing in the Annie arc is him learning to (for better or worse) trust in his new comrades and in the military structure that has him being a cog in the wheel for the much bigger plan of dealing with the internal politics of society and eventually retaking the lost territory of the outer walls and cities. He's not a badass, and I respect the show in going out of its way to NOT reward the lone wolf style of shounen hero badassery that would have a single person soloing huge numbers of the enemy front. Attack on Titan makes it very clear early on that even the most elite of the soldiers are not immune to being taken out if the conditions aren't favorable to their success. Because of this and other aspects of the world, I'm much more invested in the AoT world. Seraph feels like a knockoff in comparison.

Death Note - Shounen Wolf's Rain - Seinen Trigun - Shounen Cowboy Bebop - Shoujo Samurai Champloo - Shounen High School of the Dead - Shounen Blue Gender - Seinen Speedgrapher (didn't finish this one, was a little too Power Rangers for my taste) - Shounen Attack on Titan - Shounen Paracyte - Seinen Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Those are all almost definitely shounen.
Most of what we are listing is more "adult" shounen. If he listed seinen material which is anime actually aimed at adults then I wouldn't have used Deadman Wonderland, which is a shounen so it fits within in the category of shows he might be interested in.
Edit: I did some research, and I'll be listing the results next to the shows. I couldn't find the results for Jin-Roh, but I'm guessing it's a seinen. Anyway, his list of 11 shows contains at least 6 shounen. That's over 50%, so the uses of shows like Deadman Wonderland, Mirai Nikki, and Akame ga Kill are justified.

Just wrapped up watching To Love Ru Darkness and loved it. Momo may well be my favorite character of any anime, ever. Can't wait for the next season to come out!
Also watched the Samurai Girls/Samurai Bride series a little while ago. Was definitely an interesting style of animation and it's always interesting to see how legendary characters of the Sengoku era are portrayed (just don't get me started on Tokugawa Ieyasu's portrayal in Battle Girls Time Paradox!!!)
Now, to find the next good harem comedy...

Right, which is why I prefaced the entire thing with "On one hand if you look at Aeon's list and are making recommendations based on that criteria then you guys are doing a pretty good job of giving him shows that he'd probably enjoy."
I agree with your assessment and think the recommendations (Mirai Nikki, Deadman, etc) are shows that he'd end up liking regardless of the demographic that they're aimed at, I just took issue with calling those shows "adult" or "mature". Call it being nitpicky if you'd like.

Panty and Stocking is fantastic, I always liken the show to a raunchy "adult" Powerpuff Girls and the soundtrack is still something I listen to to this day.
Fun fact, some of the more iconic tracks on that list - Fly Away I Want You
- are made by the same dude (Teddyloid) who did the music for the pretty fantastic Mememe short. Link

I've been rather inactive on this thread, but now that spring is over I guess it is time for me to post some reviews. I'll stick to shows that have finished, so Owari no Seraph and Arslan Senki won't be found here until they finish. As of right now, I only have three shows to review, and I'll post reviews of the rest when I get around to finishing them. Disclaimer: May contain spoilers and spelling mistakes (I'm typing this on my phone).
Fate / Stay Night: This seems like a good place to start. This show was pretty good overall, filled with a fair amount of action with a dash of romance as well. I can't really say I had any problems with the show, but at the same time there was nothing that really stood out as being amazing. This show is definitely better than the original, but worse than it's prequel.
Hibike! Euphonium: This show was pretty fantastic. Sure, there were some dull moments, but aside from those the show was quite entertaining. I like how this show contained drama without going overboard. I think this show captured all of the elements make a good high-school drama while still maintaining realism in terms of characters and their reactions to certain events. Speaking of characters, the characters in this show were great. For having such a large cast, it is quite impessive that every character managed to be unique and interesting. I really like the main character in this show; her level of awkwardness is, honestly, super adorable and her resolve, frankly every characters resolve, is very admirable. This show reminds me of Love Live in many ways, such as the one just mentioned. Out of all the things in this show that I enjoyed, the romance definitely takes the cake, but not in a way I would have initially expected. While this show did have some actual romance elements, the one that reallyhooked me was the Kumiko/Reina romance. Their confession scene was so unlike anything I have ever scene in any anime, and their more mature understanding of love is very refreshing to see. I don't at exactly what position, but this show has definitely snuck its way into my top 5.
Plastic Memories: Here we go. I don't really know where to begin with this one. I know quite a few people had a few issues woth this show as a sci-fi show, but I think those people just don't understand what this show is. This show is an amazing romcom drama with a touch of sci-fi elements. I'm not one to enjoy romantic comedies usually, as I find the comedy takes away from the romance too much, but this show didn't make me feel like that. This show is very similar to Angel Beats, it balances comedy and drama in a way that works, but it does even more than that. Unlike Angel Beats, this show focuses a lot more on the romance, and that does nothing except add to this shows magnificence. Angel Beats was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but this is the whole damn amusement park. This show was funny and joyous, yet at the same time it could be serious and somewhat dark. Then the final episode hit, and the tears started flowing. That ending was so heartbreaking; I'm honestly holding back tears right now as I write this review. I haven't cried that much in years. I don't think I'll forget this show, it was an absolutely amazing watch. I can say with confidence that this show is my all time favourite anime. #NoRegrets
This season, for me, has been one of the best. In the two years I've been watching anime I haven't seen a single season that placed two shows in my top 5. Don't get me wrong, this season had it's fair share of terrible shows, but I can ignore those because there have been some fantastic shows as well.
Anyway, these are my reviews so far. More to come within the next week.
Sincerely, Glantix / Ice

The Boku no Pico joke is kinda old isn't it? I've personally never seen it actually. I've been busy with other stuff.
So, I finished ToraDora, (actually finished it a couple days ago, but eh) and yes. I love it. I was overall satisfied with the route it took. Would it be better if Ryuji had chosen differently? I honestly don't know. I'll say I'd certainly be interested in a "what if" scenario. Also, am I the only one who wanted Ami x Minori? Curse these yuri goggles!!
Welp, time to start on the second season of HunterxHunter. My brother has been pestering me about this one for awhile now.

Sincerely, Glantix / Ice Pretty sure Seraph ended already, just 12 episodes, it should of been much, much, longer.
and i agree people who delve too deep into the sic fi aspect of Plastic Memories is missing the point of the show, but you can't ignore the set up. Aldnoha Zero got 0 respect from me for doing exactly what Plastic Memory is doing. Creating a scenario that is purposely brain dead to make the main character(s) stand out more.
There is no way anyone is going to make me believe that society would create sentient robots then handle it with that retrieval company. And that was one of the big points in the show that makes these people special, they don't treat... sentient robots like anything more then a sentient creature.
Where as there's more to the story in Clannad and Anohana then the ending, Plastic Memories has nothing going for it but how much you have feels for the loli's situation.

I want a toradora VN so i can go through all the routes, i minda want to see how a romance with minori would play out. and hunterxhunter is ******* amzing.

I'd kill for anything toradora to come out, game, vn, anything, lol.
It's also nice to see you back Ice! :D
I've finished Fruit of Grisia OVA and Season 2, it's really interesting but i can't put my finger on the problem I had with the show.
The OVA was great, learning about the MC's terrible past was actually really interesting, and it continues into the actual second season.
His big sister is just incredible, she's a super loli. And the pink hair maid girl is insane at everything she does, a literal perfect maid. Her fight scene was great.
And I laughed quite a bit, the sex jokes were just so straight forward, like it wasn't even trying to be funny. Even at the end when he has sex with his sister out of no where it comes off as a so what scene that it's comical. You almost don't notice with how fast it all is that.. they just had sex.
And the main guy seems to like sex and is willing to **** anything of age, lol. |
