At a crossroads with what to watch on Netflix. Just wasn't able to get into Blood+ and now I'm left with very few "mature" options. I vaguely remember watching some Bubblegum Crisis years ago...should I give it another shot?

Otherwise, I'm left with Samurai Champloo, Eden of the East and Hetalia...

i feel like anime is in a lull right now. infinite stratos is kind of meh, for whatever reason, chobbits can not keep my attention for any longer than 30 minutes. i don't really like horror or super serious anime most of the time. there just seems to be nothing out there at the moment that catches my fancy. as a result, i started watching fairy tail from start to finish again along with baka and test and heaven's lost property. those three never get old.

Last night was just...awful. Watched "Blade of the Phantom Master" and gave it a rare one star rating on Netflix. The characters, animation, plot...sucktacular all around.

Sadly, this came just one night after watching "Kite: Liberator." Back-to-back disappointing anime nights for me!

When it comes to movies there are very, very, few good anime ones.

Just watched season 1 of no game no life. My first anime..... unless dbz counts?

I really enjoyed the panties and sexual innuendo.

Man, I really wouldn't recommend No Game No Life as someone's first exposure to anime because of all of the fanserv-

Anyway, felt obligated to finish up my Spring shows after my June "break" from the internet.

Ping Pong the Animation still comes off as the highlight of the season for me and given how the show started that fact doesn't surprise me in the least. From the outset the show brought an inspired art and animation style to the table and was able to back itself up with an engrossing character drama as well. Despite the name of the show I felt throughout the series that Ping Pong was more a tale of its characters and I found myself connecting in one way or another to antagonist and protagonist alike and it made the actual matches, the "contests of will" between 2 opposing forces, that much more interesting as a result. The "enemies" in this are less tools for the protagonist to move forward and more actual people within the story who have their own set of dreams, motivations, and worldviews that they bring to the table. Ping Pong was the stage for the author to be able to tell these stories rather than the actual focus. Don't miss out on this one, Funimation has it up on their youtube channel as well.

Hitsugi no Chaika is one that I'm also not seeing a ton of attention being given to so I went out of my way to finish just recently as well and I was actually impressed with the themes the show was presenting throughout, this sort of focus on the role of the soldier in a post war environment. Sure it's still a story with magic and dragons and other fantastic figures but its done in an extremely competent way and it continues what is a promising trend in the series Bones has put out this year. Noragami, Hitsugi no Chaika, and Space Dandy (hit and miss) have all been extremely entertaining. The only black sheep in all of this seems to be Captain Earth ...

As for Summer shows the only thing I'm watching right now is Zankyou no Terror (and Legend of Korra if you count that) and while I'm hesitant to give recommendations for the show with it being only 3 episodes in I have come away REALLY impressed with the way its handled itself so far. If there's anything you guys need to make sure you're watching it's Zankyou no Terror (Terror in Resonance)/

Still need to try out Tokyo Ghoul, Akame ga Kill, Space Dandy S2, Fate/Kaleid and Aldnoah Zero though ... any other shows I should be keeping an eye on?

Don't recommend me Sword Art Online ...

i started off liking chaika but slowly lost engagement with it as it progressed, that may have been due to the fact it was comparing with no game no life, chaika went along at a steady pace whil NGNL just kept increasing the stakes and drama...
