Kokoro Connect
So I was looking through the past seasons of crunchyroll and stumbled upon this. Similar scenario to Yamada-kun and body switching but it has a much more heartfelt tone to it, and the switching happens completely randomly.
So glad I found this too, cause it's another show that relates to me on a personal level,
...and then episode 5 happened I'm probably not sleeping tonight, gotta watch the whole thing now lol So good (Even if it didn't turn dark like I wanted it to dammit)

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san (Nyaruko: Crawling With Love) Season 2 (W) and (F)
5/10
Comedy/Parody/Sci-fi/Harem/Romance
Masahiro's misfortune continues as he finds himself travelling the galaxy to return overdue library books, battle monsters, visit pools/hot springs and pose as the fianc+¬ of Kuuko.
The absurd comedy continues with the second season and stand-alone "final" OVA; unfortunately, very little occurs that separates this from the first season. The introduction of Kuuko as a potential love interest is short-lived and entirely done for comedic purposes. Hell, everything is done for comedic purposes. We once again get to see the occasional moment with Nyaruko and Masahiro developing their relationship...but it's typically too little, too late. Masahiro becomes annoying with his stubborn refusal of the advances of those around him while the other characters never truly develop as characters. It's basically one long running gag that, after the first season, grows tiresome. Another romance is hinted at developing with Kurei, but nothing results from it.
Animation is decent and the music is an improvement over the first season. More ecchi this time around but no actual nudity aside from Kuuko's rear.
Verdict: A disappointing follow-up to the first season, it can be skipped without losing any sense of closure (i.e. there isn't any.)
For the Record: Still going with team Kuuko.
Series score: 6 Season 1 - 7 Season 2/OVA - 5

Shaft did a brilliant job with this series.
I just wish it wasn't so hard to figure out which order to watch it in :/

So, here's a question for everyone on the thread. When you are checking which anime you want to watch, are there any words that instantly turn you off of a series? For me, if I see the word "harem" show it's face I generally won't watch it.

There's one golden rule: If it doesn't get good by 3 episodes and isn't listed as 50+ episodes the first season, it's going to be bad. |

It's not so much a word, but if the picture has anything to do with sports, monster battle card games, mechs, fighting (shonen), or Yaoi, I won't even give it a chance.
I tend to go for the colorful ones that have plenty of fun lookimg characters. I'm also extremely judgemental when it comes to bad art because I can't stand watching a show (even if it's good) if the characters look ********.
Example: Phi Brain (also had to do with the fact that it was 70 freaking episodes)

The shows that irk me are the sports, over-hyped-melo-drama-that-i-can't-relate-too. Baby Steps is the best sports show I found and I barely like it.
Which leads to my second irk - Animation style, not so much quality over-all. Shows whose character designs are either straight ugly *Flower of Evil* or just looks half-assed *Black Prince and the Wolf Girl* |

Up until last year I shared the same view when it comes to sports shows. I think a certain part of me just felt like they'd all essentially be analogous to the old Prince of Tennis in which everything would devolve into a shounen style battle of various sports related super powers. I had an idea there that just wasn't enough there for me in the genre to become emotionally invested to the plot or characters. Having been exposed to Ping Pong the Animation and Haikyuu however my opinion completely 180'd. Ping Pong was a character drama with the actual "sport" being nothing more than the stage to tell its story and Haikyuu was a show that was able to balance out and develop a really impressive number of characters while also seamlessly blending the mechanics of volleyball into each character's trials and tribulations. They're both fantastic and I'd highly recommend them to someone who's squeamish about delving into the genre, they certainly made me a believer.

It's obviously not a catch all "I'll avoid this like the plague" it's just that a show that's set in your traditional highschool has to do more in order for me to become motivated enough to actually try it out. Whether that be a non-traditional art style or rave reviews or an animation budget on par with Unlimited Budget Works. As it stands right now one of my top shows period is set in a highschool.
You may have heard of it, "Flowers of Evil"

I'll defend Flower of Evil to high heaven, it's a show that's ugly in all the right ways, a beautifully executed subversion of the highschool drama that's unsettling, oppressive, and capable of evoking an acute sense of dread that I've yet to experience in any other show. I loved every moment.

I can see your point, though I still enjoy testament; there's potential in the storyline if they're willing to go for it and not simply fall back on the comfort of T&A. Isuca does a better job of forcing the nudity to serve the plot and not be the key focus of the show.

Nisekoi (Nisekoi: False Love) Season 2:
8/10
School Life/Harem/Comedy/Romance
Raku's relationship woes continue as yet more beautiful women enter his social circle.
I remember a previous comment warning me about season 2 so I refrained from watching it. However, with kissanime being down I simply picked a show that I was already familiar with...and I'm glad that I did. I enjoyed this season, perhaps even more so than the first. This season is all about Raku doing what he does best--being a genuinely nice guy that cares about his friends and wants nothing more than to see them smile. So even though the overall plot--that of the locket and Raku's destined love--remains unmoved, this season works to further develop the romantic feelings of each harem candidate while also showing how easy it is for Raku to (unknowingly) gain more love interests.
Yes, the storylines are rather predictable (in that you know Raku's personality is going to win the girls over) but the fact that Raku is able to pull it off with such genuine sincerity cements his place as a great "harem king." The season does a great job of juggling his conscious pursuit of Kosaki with his natural dedication to others, primarily Chitoge; Raku is becoming more and more aware of Chitoge's beauty and the fact that, given their rough start, he's actually enjoying his time with her. It'd be a stretch at this point to say that he's in love with her, but there is definitely a strong undercurrent of romance building between them.
One episode stands out to me: episode 10, "Support." This is Raku at his most basic, yet best--frustrated by the fact that his friend Shu can see all of the confusion surrounding him, Raku realizes that, for all of Shu's enthusiasm for the opposite sex, he has no idea who Shu's crush is. Investigating further, Raku discovers the object of Shu's affection...and realizes that the relationship is doomed to never happen. The episode does a fantastic job of mirroring two simultaneous stories--Shu's struggle with whether or not to declare his love for the teacher and Seishiro's struggle with whether or not to declare her love for Raku. It's a bittersweet look at love that can never be, and the strength it takes to recognize that fact. Yet through it all, Raku does everything in his power to support Shu--it's a rare moment in harem comedies where male friends are treated as anything more than tertiary characters and you get a sense of how Raku's personality enables him to build such strong relationships with those around him.
Animation remains solid. Characters are continually gorgeous, from the understated Kosaki to the voluptuous Seishiro. Music is unobtrusive.
Verdict: An improvement over the first season and a thoroughly enjoyable exploration of Raku's character. The parrot is hilarious.
For the Record: Wow, it's getting really tough to pick a favorite (a sign of a quality harem show.) Still have a soft spot for Kosaki, but Seishiro's interactions with Raku are hilarious.

I'm still in shock as to see how you scored it an 8/10. The pacing was ****, there was no connection between episodes, it was more or less a not-so-good-jumble of random clips. Literally nothing happened within season 2. 1 episode for marika, 1 episode for introducing the white tiger, 1-3 episodes for chitoge (GO TEAM CHITOGE!), 1 episode for whats-her-name-that-shy-girl, 1 episode for the little sister of said shy girl which was meant to be several episodes longer but because we need more fan service let's put all the remaining episodes into complete and utter bollocks that make no sense at at. Why make the other episodes **** when you can develop the just introduced characters? The only plot that existed was the chitoge/milf arc. I saw character development in there so instead of a 6/10 I gave it 7/10.

Yes, Mahjong is a sport. The reason it's good, (and that I can't wait for the next season), is that it's less about playing Mahjong, and more about the girls that play it. It's cast is around 30 characters, and I love that. Very few shows can let me engage and really feel as close to every character as Saki. You know it's good when you're coming to the final confrontation and you're rooting for everyone to win.

It's alright. Deadman keeps getting better as it goes along. I hope you're into manga if you plan on continuing the story though.
EDIT: I just finished Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya season one. Two words: Yandere Miyu. If that happens this will become my favorite anime series of all time. If it doesn't.... It'll still be a decent comedy/action magical girl show.

Oreshura (My Girlfriend and Childhood Friend Fight Too Much)
6/10
Harem/School/Romance/Comedy
Eita is a first-year high school student that has forgone almost all social relationships to pursue his goals of going to medical school. Bitter over the divorce of his parents (and subsequent abandonment) he shuts himself away from almost everyone around him and identifies himself as "anti-love." In the midst of his normal life comes Masuzu, a gorgeous foreign transfer student, whom Eita promptly displays no interest in. Imagine his surprise when, having spurned dozens of advances from male students, Masuzu makes a public declaration of her love for Eita in the middle of class and demands that he walk home with her from school from now on. Confused and embarrassed, Eita agrees to go with her...only to find her blackmail him (using his old notebook) into posing as her boyfriend! Eita must now survive the jealous boys and girls (particularly his childhood friend, Chiwa) of his school as he desperately searches for a way out of his predicament...and the motives behind Masuzu's antics.
This show was better than I expected. Much of the story is your standard cookie-cutter harem affair...but the one major exception is the character of Masuzu. Though Eita is the protagonist of the show, the actual story is basically that of Masuzu's struggle with mental illness. She chooses Eita for her scheme because she senses a kindred soul in his "anti-love" outlook; however, she frequently goes out of her way (early on) to embarrass/hurt others. For the first four episodes or so, you'll loathe her character...almost to the point of wanting to stop watching. Stick with it, though, and you'll see a fairly unique take on a troubled character that struggles to find happiness (and doesn't know what to do on the occasions that she actually finds it.) When viewed through the focus of Eita, the harem is a pretty bland collection of stereotypes that fails to impress. It's when viewing things from Masuzu's point of view that the harem characters take on a much more important role--though they are potentially rivals, they are also the first real friends that she's ever had. It is during her interactions with the other candidates that her true character is revealed, and this is something that should be praised.
My biggest gripe with the show would be the final story arc--namely, the introduction of Eita's aunt as a character and her job basically serve as a deus ex machina to bring about the resolution of the story. It's a little past the halfway point when the show seemingly becomes self-aware and makes light of the whole harem storyline; we have a supposed climax wherein Eita picks the girl he wants to be with, followed by his aunt suggesting that he needs to turn the other girls against him to avoid further problems moving forward...but wouldn't you know it? His attempts to turn the harem against him backfires and they love him more than ever by the end!
Animation is somewhat below-average with a weird, washed-out color vibe going on...and the girls really aren't all that cute (aside Masuzu.) Music was unremarkable. Some moments of comedic ecchi, but no actual nudity.
Verdict: If you can make it past the first four episodes, Masuzu's story is very interesting.
For the Record: Team Masuzu...though Himeka wields some nice assests.
Mike Patton is the greatest singer in music. Proof

^ I prefer Masuzu myself, and if the showed centered more around her and her life I bet it would of been a way better watch.
But it takes a harem route instead, and the other choices are down-right horrible.

Best sports show I've ever seen is Saki. Dreis ShadowWeaver wrote:I watched the first 6 episodes of Deadman Wonderland today.
Meh.
Yuri starts from season 2 ( -í-¦ -£-û -í-¦) And the third season is airing this anime season so you're in luck buddy

Fairy Tail and Food Wars have a lot in common now that I think about it. They both can just hype the hell out of **** to make you cheer and feel involved. It's incredible how these shows wrap you in. |

S1 Tokyo Ghoul - I really only liked the OP, the show itself has interesting elements, but the characters themselves, besides the old detective, were boring.
S2 looks like it attempted to fix it - just to go right back where it was. But it's now introduced a few new detectives that are far more interesting then the cast so far has been. |
