I had to use my own willpower to get me through the show. The times I wanted to drop the show exceeded over 9000. In the end, most of them are just cutout cardboard characters and the show is rushed as ****. The studio who made TG anime milked it so hard they made dust look insignificant.

Noucome (My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy)
4/10
Comedy/Harem
Amakusa, once a popular boy through middle school, now finds himself as a high school pariah due to the "Absolute Choices" that plague him--multiple choice questions that place him in ridiculous situations with a penalty of pain if he doesn't go along. One Choice, however, leads to a beautiful girl falling from the sky and offering to help him break his curse...but are things truly going to get better with her around?
I had high hopes for this show, but it ended up being fairly disappointing. For a show to place so much emphasis on comedy, it really hurts that the humor is often lacking; the comedy is too forced, too reliant upon pratfall humor, to merit more than the occasional chuckle. The harem aspect of the show is decent but never rises above being anything more than average.
Art is solid throughout the show with some very attractive girls. Going hand-in-hand with the comedy, ecchi is a constant presence though actual nudity never makes an appearance. Music doesn't leave any sort of impression.
Verdict: Pass. A comedy that isn't funny just isn't worth the time.
For the Record: Team Youji.

Jesus Christ! Looking through all of these anime names like half of them have stupidly long names. I once heard someone say that the only reason they were given such names is that way they get their own shortened name that is associated with them. That seems like shady marketing to me. If your show is good, it should be memorable on its own merits. Then again, my favorite anime is Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai (Love, Chuunibyou, and Other Delusions).

it was ok. not great, but not horrible either. the ending episode kind of blew though, the best character is that tiny little teacher, if not her, the whole series would suck

And Gate Episode 10: This is the only show this season with any real progression, plenty happens every episode to keep you entertained and wondering what's next.
every other show just snail paces through everything in comparison. And the depth Gate has with it's universe and how willing it is to give personality to those getting slaughtered brings you into the action deeper then most shows would.
Gate just does a fantastic job with connecting with it's otaku targeted audience while staying fresh. |

Was killing some time last night and decided to watch six or seven episodes of Monster Musume; this must set a record of some sort for highest amounts of ecchi without actual nudity being shown. Animation was surprisingly below average for being a new show but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Fairly standard harem stuff (with the obvious twist of being monsters) but the characters are quirky enough to be interesting. Will probably wait for the season to finish before I watch the remaining episodes. Agent Smith, ftw!

They did the censorship really well by actually making two completely different versions. The trailer for the blue-ray shows this off and it's quite impressive that they would take the extra time to do that when even High School DxD still uses standard censoring.
Although both versions are extremely tame compared to what I've seen of the manga...

Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de (They Are My Noble Masters)
4/10
Harem/Comedy/Drama
Ren and his older sister Mihato have abandoned their abusive father and seek a new life in the city. A chance encounter results in them living and working at the massive Kuonji residence as servants to the three Kuonji sisters. As the pair goes about establishing a new life for themselves, Ren finds himself at the center of a tug-of-war amongst the sisters, friends and staff. But in the distance, a menacing shadow from the past slowly makes his way towards the siblings...
Yeah, so this show pretty much sucked. Yet another harem show that spends 75% of the time relying upon comedy/parody and then trying to get all serious for the final quarter of the show; the harem aspect is the strongest part of the show...but that isn't really saying much. The actual romance aspect is downplayed for all but one character, but even that romance is restricted mainly to the final two episodes and doesn't reach any sort of definitive conclusion. The other candidates primarily serve comedic or ecchi-related purposes. Surprisingly, much of the show is predicated on the very close relationship between Ren and Mihato and the implications that Mihato has romantic feelings for Ren; however, Mihato is almost immediately relegated to bit-player status as soon as the two begin their new lives.
The comedy aspects are hit-or-miss: some of the parody scenes are worth a chuckle (Fist of the North Star is pretty much a parody staple for every show by this point) while other comedic angles come across as being too forced.
As far as the drama goes, it only really comes into play over the final three episodes and is completely wrapped up by the end of the show in the customary "everything is awesome" climax. What SHOULD have been the main focus of the show (the relationship between Ren, Mihato and their father) is just sort of glossed over...and yet manages to only obscure the past. Early on, the residents of the Kuonji estate are made aware of the reasons for Ren and Mihato's struggles in escaping their abusive father; later in the show, however later in the show Mihato confides in Miyu that she, too, understands what it's like to have lost both parents (which Miyu even makes note of.) And then there is the conversation between father and son wherein the father blames Ren for the death of his mother...but no further information is provided. This could have been an interesting show about sibling relationships and abusive households, grief, anger, mental illness, addiction, etc.--instead, it tries to be two things at once (comedy and drama) to the detriment of both.
Animation is dated and the female characters aren't really all that attractive (though Miyu can be described as cute.) Music is largely unimportant aside from the orchestra performances of actual classical music. Loads of ecchi throughout the show and plenty of nudity, though much of it is slightly obscured. Honestly, though, you wouldn't be missing much.
Verdict: Pass. Never rises above average at any one thing and is hurt by the sudden shift in tone towards the end. Could have been a decent harem comedy or a good drama, but fails at trying to mash the two together.
For the Record: Team Miyu, though that's pretty much because she's the only candidate with any sense of personality.

What's this? Another review before anyone has posted? Slackers!!!
Walkure Romanze
7/10
Friendship/Ecchi/Comedy/Harem
In a land where jousting is the pinnacle of sport, Takahiro is a student of the local academy. Once a highly-regarded knight, an injury forced him to retire from jousting. He now seeks to serve as a Begleiter; basically, a squire to jousting knights. Takahiro finds himself courted by a handful of beautiful female knights who all want him to serve as their Begleiter for the upcoming tournament...
This is a tough one to review. I was ready to bail on the show after the first four episodes or so, but stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised to see how it all turned out. So let's start from the beginning: this show is loaded with ecchi for the first 75% or so of the show and gives the impression of being little more than a fantasy harem comedy. However, as I reached the end of the show I realized how deftly the series makes a subtle transition from the standard male harem fantasy and into a show about the friendship established between the female knights of the show; after the initial story arc of Takahiro acting as Begleiter for friend Mio in a duel, the show goes into full-ecchi mode by throwing in hot spring/swimsuit episodes...and that's when you notice that Takahiro almost disappears as the protagonist. For all the ridiculous ecchi occurring it's easy to overlook the fact that the bulk of these episodes focus almost entirely on the girls interacting with each other: they are rivals that will be competing against each other in the tournament and yet they're spending the majority of their time establishing friendships, supporting each other and spurring everyone on to improve themselves (both as knights and as people.) This is a great way of turning the original plot (that of Takahiro's ability as a Beigleiter all but guaranteeing his chosen knight victory) on it's head as Takahiro becomes incapable of making a decision, due to each character having their motivations for competing revealed. The final arc deals with the actual tournament and the fallout that results.
I have to admit, the ending was handled wonderfully. The winner of the tournament is the correct one, but more importantly the focus moves away from the winners/losers and instead shows what each competitor has gained from competing. Rather than end the show there, however, they push on with a closing scene of the girls coming together in celebration: this isn't your typical super happy ending that tries to wrap everything up with a neat little bow. Rather, it further reinforces the importance the tournament has had on the group as a whole over the course of the second half of the show. The final scene--that of the girls questioning Takahiro as to which harem candidate he would have supported as Begleiter--is a cute way to acknowledge the harem aspects of the first half of the show with a humorous wink.
The art is absolutely gorgeous. Colors are vivid and sharp. Music is solid, particularly in the tournament episodes. Loads upon loads of ecchi thrown about with no actual nudity aside from the occasional rear end. Girls are all attractive with Celia and post-haircut Mio standing out.
Verdict: Refreshing. If you can make it through the initial harem/ecchi story arc, you'll be rewarded with a wonderful ending.
For the Record: Team Noel.

Gokukoku no Brynhildr (Brynhildr in the the Darkness)
7/10
Sci-fi/Supernatural/Harem
Ten years ago, while looking for an alien that his friend Kuroneko swears she saw, Ryouta falls from a dam and ends up being hospitalized. Upon his release, he learns that Kuroneko was killed during the fall after she tried to save him. Ryouta, now in the 11th grade, spends his free time at a local observatory, wherein he continues to look for alien life. One day, a transfer student named Neko shows up at his school...and she bears a striking resemblance to Kuroneko. However, she tells Ryouta that he's mistaken as they've never met before. Soon enough, she informs Ryouta that she's here to save him as her friend has forecasted Ryouta's impending death; in doing so, Neko displays amazing powers that exceed that of any human. Refusing to accept that Neko and Kuroneko are not the same person, Ryouta journeys with her in a heartbreaking tale of aliens, magic, experiments and love...
Look folks, this show is dark. Very dark. Death is unexpected and frequent and occasionally, soul-crushing. Ryouta is a fairly typical MC with one special ability (a photographic memory.) What sets him apart from typical MCs is that his greatest strength is his mind--when dealing with beings far more powerful than he, Ryouta must rely on his wits to save the day. The girls that come into his life are all tragic figures and it's damn near impossible not to develop an attachment to them...bring some tissues, people.
I watched the uncensored version of the show, which delivers more gore/nudity. The whole harem/ecchi aspects of the show seem like an odd fit with the dark tone...and yet, looking back on it, it's entirely appropriate. The harem aspect isn't played up for comedy and the nudity isn't served up for fanservice; these are teenage kids coming together and, in the case of the girls, their first experience with building any sort of lasting relationship with other people, human or not. For some characters, the sensation of falling in love is alien (no pun intended) to them and they don't understand their own feelings, or why they're experiencing them. Other characters--including my favorite--recognize love for what it is and want to act on it while they have the chance. After all, how reserved would you be around the person you care about if you knew that your life will come to end sooner (much, much sooner) rather than later? It helps in this case that Ryouta is immensely dedicated to helping those around him--he repeatedly puts himself in harm's way for the sake of the girls for no reason other than the fact that he treasures their lives and wants to help them in any way that he can.
Where the show struggles is in pacing--honestly, the entire school scenario is an unnecessary waste of time. Yes, I understand why the girls would dream of attending school...but given their health status and the ever-present threat of death, it's hard to picture them finding time to actually live such a life. That time would have been better served developing the plot and pushing forward major plot developments that are otherwise crammed into the final episodes. That said, it does make sense that the girls dream of experiencing a normal life as best they can. Of course, I could just be bitter about the fact that these episodes focus so much on developing attachments to characters that won't all survive to the end... The final story arc comes across as being rushed due to many revelations being made in such a short period of time, and several questions are left unanswered.
Animation is solid, if not spectacular. Music can be pretty epic at times (particularly the second opening theme song.) Girls are attractive without being beautiful. Frequent nudity to be found while ecchi used for comedic purposes pops up on occasion.
Verdict: If you can make it through the dark tone (think Elfenleid) it's worth a watch. Try your best not to get too fond of the characters...or else bring some tissues. Seriously, this show hits hard and doesn't pull any punches.
For the Record: Team Kazumi, hands-down. Cast into the vixen role, she's the most outgoing and isn't shy about her desire for Ryouta. Though the show mostly plays up her sexual advances as a joke, she's obviously terrified about dying without experiencing true love and, being the constant butt of the joke, is insecure about her own body. Mucho kawaii!!!!

Rail Wars!
7/10
Action/Ecchi/Harem/Train Infomercial
Naoto wants to drive trains for a living. With this goal in mind, he enters the training program for the Japanese National Railway system, but is dismayed to discover that he has been assigned to serve in the public safety division of the JNR. Fortunately for him, he quickly finds himself by a bevy of gorgeous women to help him as his training group must deal with bomb threats, runaway cars and assassination attempts.
To be honest, this show was WAY better than it had any right to be. Seriously...the show treats the men and women (and vehicles) of the Japanese train industry as heroes. And yet I found myself unable to stop watching!
Action: Pretty much every episode has some sort of mad-cap event occurring that throws Naoto and company into danger. Why a group of 4 trainees is assigned to all of these assignments is beyond me.
Ecchi: The show is, shall we say, VERY fond of the uniforms worn by those involved in the train industry. Skirts that end six inches above the knee, tight tops, frequent removal of pantyhose, etc.--you get the picture.
Harem: Checklist time! -Tsundere? Check. -Curvaceous klutz? Check. -School friend? Check. -Famous Idol? Check. -Cute sensei? Check. -Cross dresser? Check.
Train Infomercial: Yes, you will learn all about Japanese trains and the routes they take!
Through it all, the show constantly moves forward at a brisk pace in a series of self-contained storylines. Mad bombers. Organ transplant deliveries following a mudslide. Security for a concert. Escorting royalty. Yeah, it all happens to this group of 4 people (and their supervisor.) All the while, poor Naoto lucks his way into wooing the hearts of most every woman he meets, with the tsundere character being the best.
As to the negatives, well...it's a show about trains.
Animation is solid and the music is actually quite good, particularly during the action scenes. The ending theme is an interesting mix or rap and dubstep performed by a female singer. Interesting. Characters are cute enough, I suppose, though most of the attention is placed on their shapely bodies. Naoto has a weird habit of looking strange when the show focuses on his face. Ecchi runs rampant with actual nudity being limited to a handful of episodes, though the girls are all rather impressive.
Verdict: It's watchable, I'll give it that. Doesn't really kick off until about the third episode, but if you make it that far you'll probably see it through to the end.
For the Record: Team Aoi--the tsundere candidate you can support!

Honestly, and I'm going to watch Non Non Biyori Repeat, which will put me at four different series at one time. Honestly, Himouto is only okay. I'm only on episode 2 though. Umaru was cute at first, but I'm afraid it'll start to grate if she doesn't start showing any improvement. Though, as a massive Monster Hunter fan I love the reference in the OP. I'm suppose to be watching ~16 series (ongoing) at the moment. I'm sure sota has more me though Bikini warriors anyone ( -í-¦ -£-û -í-¦)

Ghost Stories - NEEDS TO BE THE ENGLISH DUB. There's a story that goes along with the Ghost Stories recommendation. Basically the dudes who licensed out the product did a combination of totally rewriting the japanese script and telling the voice actors to just totally ad lib a lot of different scenes. The result is an absolutely hilarious retelling of what was nothing more than a mediocre horror show before. It's amazing.
