I just doubt many people even know what that show is... sad, really. Hiina and Mariah are fantastics... and now that i think about it... isn't Mariah the perfect Waifu? I haven't watched hayate yet so I wouldn't know Argh so many animes I have to watch.

Right then, down to business. Since "waifu" is too big of an option, we will have to narrow down the waifu aspects but I don't want to narrow down to a specific anime with the best waifu to choose from (too limited) so I thought we could do age restrictions, eg under 18 and over 18 (it sounds ridiculous yes but most female protagonist are under 18 - high school settings are the most popular anime setting after all) loli and no loli (yes i know what you're thinking, lolicons do exist). I think those two limits will be enough for now. Thats the waifu aspect done. Now the poll. I think the poll that anime trending uses to get votes will be enough for the poll. I guess there will be a box that you can suggest waifus and I'll (or whoever is in charge of the poll) will add it up. I also think there should be more than 1 vote (1 waifu never is enough ( -í-¦ -£-û -í-¦) ). Maybe we could separate them between each year and we could have 1(+) vote for each year. Should i put the poll here in a separate topic? One last thing before I open this up for suggestions, is this a poll to see dust (player's) favorite waifu? I got a lot of other stuff I want to discuss but can't remember it all. Will need some people to help me do it and everyone to give me (waifu) suggestions. Touka Takanashi. I don't even need another waifu.
Under 18 is Ayano Sugiura.
Oh, and can I marry Rie Kugimiya's voice? I'll be damned if that's not the best VA in existence.
REVIEW TIME: Maid-Sama This one was pretty much average. It had funny moments, and was just a normal romcom where our highly tsundere female MC keeps getting flustered around our hunky male MC. For some reason it was seen to make it a 26 episode series which makes watching it almost painful. It could have easily been a 12 or 13 episode series. They just kept making up new ridiculous situations. The show really shined when it was actually following its premise, in which the serious student council president is secretly a maid working at a maid caf+¬. However, it quickly shoved that plot aside. Fortunately, it didn't completely lose sight of it's gimmick, and returned to form sometimes. Still, I can't really recommend it.

Seiken Tsukai no World Break (World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman)
8/10
Haimura finds himself attending an academy for Saviors--individuals who have remembered their previous lives and possess the ability to fight with either their own bodily powers or magic. Haimura is unique, however, in that he can utilize both abilities...something unheard of, even amongst the elite 6 saviors in the world. Almost immediately, Haimura finds himself drawn to two women who share a long history with him. As he awakens to the power that he possesses, women flock to his side and enemies plot against him...but in a world of past lives, can one person break free from fate, or will history repeat itself?
I liked this show. Typical power fantasy/harem comedy blend with the saving grace of having a badass MC. Haimura avoids falling into the oblivious buffoon trope while also proving himself to be as sharp with his wits as he is with a blade. Though the ending of the story will be fairly obvious, it does tie together nicely the theme of inescapable fate and the idea of past lives. Harem members all serve a purpose (though the MC doesn't overly express any romantic desires towards them) and avoid being annoying. Above all, this is an actual beginning-to-end story told over the course of 12 episodes. Could they expand it to another season? Possibly...but the story feels pretty complete as it is.
Animation is superb. Female characters (particularly Shizuno) are gorgeous. No actual nudity but plenty of ecchi to go around and the music, at times, rocks with some crushing guitars. A good enough watch if you're not looking for anything deep or profound...
Mike Patton is the greatest singer in music. Proof

Maid-sama - i forgot bout her, she's easily another top Waifu.
Also easily one of the best romcom anime. Misaki is a pleasure to watch as she suffers through life, her only luck being in love and that gets her into more then she can honestly handle being from a dirt poor family.

I knew touka takanashi looked familiar Yeah she would be a good waifu indeed. Good choice my fellow companion Need to finish Baka to Test second season. I remember cola saying that there was a surprising amount of character development, he was absolutely right. The last few episodes of season 2 are all char development which is great.

Heh heh I have mixed feelings about her voice. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it but I do know this -it always sounds nostalgic and familiar (ZNT was my first anime).

I don't think the teacher is haunting around. I think she's a figment of Yuki's imagination. Like she died, but as with everything else Yuki still thinks she's alive, and just uses her as a sort of subconscious protective mechanism. Oh, and apparently there's a grave on the roof that may be her's.

Y'know I wonder, what it was about anime? I mean, why is it so popular? No other subset of a medium of entertainment has become such a phenomenon world wide. I guess stuff like K-pop, or Bollywood films enjoy their fair share of exposure, but not like anime. It's like, you never hear of people that are die hard fans of Nepalese cartoons, or Aussie cartoons. So why anime? What is it about anime that let it spread so thoroughly?

Anime has a few quirks going for it -
Firstly, the material source exist first elsewhere before it's made into an anime - so before anime is even made to begin with, it already had some kind of fanbase.
But for me - it was always how the character shares and grow. Anime characters just tend to be more lovable, easier to bond with, and thus easier to relate too, giving us a more involving story. We want to see more of the character we enjoy.
When it comes to hollywood the show needs to be pretty damn good for us to really like the show - anime has an easier job of it, super short shows can be our favorites, where such things are unheard of in american mainstream tv. If a shows popular it goes on for ages.
Anime is already cheaper to produce when it comes to extraordinary imaginative worlds. It allows so much more creative freedom in where the plot can go, unhampered by third parties or development costs nearly as much.
but really - the gist of it is the theme's the shows come with - generally inspiring, happy, romantic, these shows value communication and being true to your own thoughts but accepting there's others around you then just you. Nothing is ever simple, even the kid shows have deep complicated matters. |

Another series down!
Strike the Blood
7/10
In a world where demons/vampires/werewolves/etc. exist alongside humans, an island city is built off the coast of Japan to house the various races and try to promote coexistence among them. There is a delicate balance among the Three Progenitors--all-powerful vampires--that preserves the peace throughout the world and the races inhabiting it. However, a fabled "Fourth Progenitor" appeared on the island city of Itogami and passed her powers onto the human, Kojou Akatsuki, who now finds himself embroiled in twisted schemes of those seeking to destroy the peaceful balance that hangs by a thread...
Yet another power fantasy/ecchi/harem comedy mash-up that I found to be more enjoying than not. The MC is fairly generic (i.e. finds himself surrounded by beautiful women but is completely oblivious to their feelings) and his voice sounds...odd. As though a 40 year-old smoker is trying to sound like a teenager. Anyway, the MC is, in many ways, a secondary character to Himeragi, the main harem candidate; much of the story centers on her finding ways to spur the reluctant hero into action (he makes no secret of the fact that he doesn't want to be the Fourth Progenitor and only wants a normal life) while trying to fulfill her role as an "observer" of Kojou--a role that may require her to kill Kojou should he fail to control his powers. Other harem characters quickly make their appearance--the childhood friend, the head-over-heels-in-love friend, the tsundere, loli, etc. but these mainly come off as attempts at humor instead of character-developing relationships; characters show up, MC declares that he will do anything to protect them, rescues the damsel in distress, character fades away into the background, rinse and repeat.
What saves the show is the constant threat posed to the MC and the world around him. We (oddly) never even see or hear from the other 3 Progenitors that are supposedly all-powerful; all of the challenges that arise are centered mainly on Itogami City with the MC just happening to get caught up in the action. Though this hurts the overall storyline, it does keep things constantly fresh. Unfortunately, much of the underlying mystery surrounding the show (Why was Kujou given these powers?) are never answered while the ending only weakly hints at a continuing story.
Animation is sharp, characters are typically attractive--Himeragi really grows on you over the course of the show--and the music is solid. Plenty of ecchi to go around (Japanese girls are all very concerned about breast size, apparently) though, oddly, actual nudity is limited to two quick scenes if I recall correctly. Weird that the show would go out of its way so often to strategically conceal areola/nipples at every opportunity only to reveal them in these scenes which, to be honest, really serve no purpose. A bit of a head-scratcher, really.

Finally got around to watching Madoka Magica
Intial reaction:
Episode 1>Okay this show is creepy, but I dont get what people find so great about it Episode 3>Well that was unexpected, but at the same time I did expect it because the show started out so damn creepy already. Episode 6>These girls are making their situation a much bigger deal than it really is Episode 7>Over halfway through, main girl still isn't a magical girl, and side chick is now crazy.
Gonna finish it tonight, keeping my expectations high despite my instincts telling me that I'm only going to be disappointed.
I feel like it would be a much better show if the first couple episodes were super happy fun time, instead of trippy worlds and creepy characters that never smile.
Akame ga Kill and School Live did a really good job of this, but Madoka didn't
