well....dust was my life for a very very long time. Sometimes I thought that all I needed was dust to survive and be happy. Now that I know its going away its very sad. I haven't played it in almost a year, yet its always been apart of me, always will.
Between the friends and enemies i've made, its been a huge part of my gaming life. I'll miss you tankers! I'll miss all of you!

CCP needs to just stop doing anything that isn't EVE, they're not competent enough to do anything else, there's Dust which was an utter failure and their allowing the licenses for White Wolf to just languish for eight years with nothing to show for it. Thank God White Wolf is now in Paradox Interactive's hands. I in all honesty will probably not follow whatever magic bean of an aborted FPS CCP tries hawk us next, thanks to the unmitigated disappointment that was Dust. |

That is not a fair thing to say about CCP given the situation at hand. Sure, it may have been preferred to have a PC+PS4 version of the new game, but you are ignoring the fact that CCP Shanghai can only devote so much resource to that new game while Eve Valkyrie is in development and all attention is on VR at the moment. So CCP probably had to make a choice of one or the other but not both due to resources.
But I feel it wasn't just the availability of resources that might have caused CCP to go the PC-only route. I highly suspect that the FUBAR'ed launch of Dust 514 back in May 14 of 2013 along with the announcement of Project Legion for PC a year after that at Fanfest 2014 have very much likely sealed the fate of the future of Dust's legacy.
I don't speak for anyone here but myself, but the general consensus here on the forums is that everyone has been seeing a bunch of writing on the walls almost 2 years prior to the recent announcement of the New Eden FPS for PC (Not-Legion basically). That is a long lead time.
So for you to say that you are extremely and utterly disappointed in hearing about a PC-only port (or rebuild in this case) only tells me that it's likely you imagined CCP going to port the game over to the PS4 regardless of all the writing on the walls. As I told others before you, if Fanfest 2014 as well as Fanfest 2015 were not red flags for you, then I don't know what is. To me and plenty of others here, it was extremely and utterly obvious that CCP was going the PC-only route for the new game.
I had hoped that I was wrong about that. That maybe CCP would continue to change its mind like always and decide "hey, we're making a PC and PS4 version" and it would have been great to have the new game on both platforms. But unfortunately my suspicions were correct. The likelihood of having a PC+PS4 port was just NOT likely. Again, writing on the walls.

Also, and I want to put this out there, I hate this mentality that some players have where they think that one MUST choose only one side when it comes to the PC and Console debate. In fact, I hate this entire PC vs Console debate down to its very core. I am not in anyways obligated to choose a side. My hardware is predominantly console (Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony) but I have an expensive gaming rig and I don't mind playing my games on either of them. I am the sort of player who wants to enjoy the best of what both worlds have to offer. I am never going to willfully deprive myself of the pleasure of having to try so many games from so many platforms. The standardized hardware of the consoles showed me the benefits of keeping things simple and affordable while the complexity of PC gaming rigs have taught me how to think and learn while encouraging creativity. As you can see both platforms have a place in my heart and I will never let that go because both have taught me the pros and cons of both worlds. In putting them together, one's pros can negate the cons of the other.
If you really want to stay as a console player only, fine. That's your choice. But don't say that it is "honest unfair" that you will miss out. At the very least the legacy of Dust will continue and that is something I hoped for above all else. Your record has already been etched into the very killboard that Eve Online players enjoy access and will continue to be there for years to come long after Dust is dead. And at least some players who are able to move to PC will get something out of this in return for their participating these past 3 years.
You think this is honest unfair? Take a look at PlayStation@Home. No one got their refund from that. No one's legacy got carried over. The Event Horizon lounge (Dust 514 info hub for PS@Home) is no longer with us. It's gone as well. My TK-70 Personal Drone is gone. The only thing left from it is the Creodron Methana that I have which was only obtainable from that hub in PS@Home and even that will now be deleted. Proof that nothing from PS@Home survives. Worse still when you look at The Matrix Online and how that ended.
Meanwhile, the legacy of Dust will continue. That is all I ever asked for. Regardless of whether it went to PC-only, PS4-only, or both, it didn't matter. Just as long as its legacy doesn't die with the PS3.

Along with all the time and money i spent training and building myself up and the frustrating times i realized that you were not putting out what you were telling everyone they were getting. i still get in games where a 600 hit point suit get shot down by a lone militia assault rifle and i blast the with 3 400 hit point blasts fro a mass driver. i feel you guys total bailed on us and dont give me that c--p how you are going to miss us and how tight we are. your computer could not hang abd people were getting tired of it. Hopefully, the switch to PC will also bring more timely updates to the game after it's released. The absolutely huge gaps between updates is the main reason I quit Dust so long ago.

I do not understand, like others unknown public games still have an active online servers, and something as promising as the dust 514 will be killed this way.

I can only say thank heaven it's shutting down, the game is constantly giving me huge technical problems, at least twice a day i get a 'fatal error', every two hours of playing every time i enter the queue for battle after 11 minutes of wait it says that something went wrong with scotty and drops me off so i have to disconnect, clean the ps3 and reconnect, the matchmaking is horribly broken and in general the refinement is worthy of of a congolian prison.
Originally i bought a cheap second hand ps3 just to play Dust, but after this experience i am free of any temptation to buy the Oculus to try Valkyrie, so eventually i'll get it only if it goes to PC.
I can only hope the new fps on pc is any better than what we have right now. |
