I'd love shotguns to be rebalanced to 20m range and ~320dmg a shot or something like that, so they could be used on sentinels, commandos, assaults, logi's or scouts instead of just scouts. My right thumb twitches sometimes when I pull the trigger with my index finger, which can cause me to melee instead of shoot. (Due to tendon damage.) While this is an occasional issue with automatic weapons such as the HMG, it is a constant issue with single shot weapons such as the Shotgun. This is why I gave up on playing Scout, and it is also why I personally am not likely to use the Shotgun on my Sentinel. Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

The new assault HMG counts as an alternative. Having not run a sentinel before, I wouldn't know how functional nova knives or melee would be in point defence, though I assume if the opponent sees you, they will stay out of range. I am curious if the Shotgun would suffer the same way or if it would even work as well as the HMG in really close quarters. @Megaman, totally agree about the Gal commando, but this makes me curious, can a Gal Commando with Shotgun actually substitute a sentinel in CQC? and if not, the question still stands for an actual sentinel wielding one (or other weapon?). What do you guys think about it? Know what cannot be known.

I think the Shotty range has been silently buffed a little, because I am killing people with a shotty atleast 10m out of shotty range. If you pair a Burst HMG with an SMG and follow the rule of thumb of switching to sidearm after 3 bursts, you will have good success. Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. Burst strips shields and a big chunk of armour, Bolt round finishes the job. Purifier. First Class.
