Me and my mate had a discussion about this the other day, and we both agreed that depending on what the heavy weapons are going to be would impact which weapons get reskinned and given new stats.
Take the rumoured Plasma Flamethrower, I was thinking about reskinning the Heavy Machine Gun and increase the speed dramaticly to make the plasma coming out seem like a flame. However the rounds should arc downwards and the damage per round would have to be low for balance
The Heavy Laser could be a reskinned Forge Gun. It needs to take time to charge up but once it is charged, it fires a concentrated beam for as long as you hold it, it overheats, or you run out of ammunition. Should be used mainly as an AV weapon.
We also talked about the plasma mortar but felt the flamethrower would be cooler. Also I am a huge advocate of the Gatling Laser, which is just an HMG reskinned to look Amarrian and fires lasers.

I wonder about using the Plasma Rifle art assets for the Gallente Heavy Weapon. That thing is fairly large already. Or the Shotgun. If you see a Sentinel with a Shotgun, it is a safe bet that it is not the light version. Heavy Laser should heat up rather than charge up, so it would do damage as soon as you pull the trigger, just not a lot of damage at first. Just like the Light Laser Rifle. As for the Gatling Heavy Pulse Laser I can't help imagining each barrel using a different spectrum.
A shotgun would actually work well as a plasma flamethrower, didn't think of that lol.
I think you are right, I was just picturing a big massive beam firing from the gun, lore wise it makes sense to me to have it charge up first.
Now you have me picturing a gun firing a rainbow of death!

I'd probably be more inclined to give the amarr the long range heavy weapon, and let the gallente have the short range equivalent weapon Also, cal-sent with forge guns, bit of dabbling with HMG's.
A doomsday type weapon would be amazing however, for balance, it would have to have a single shot extremely high damage and a long reload time. Even then I can hear the tears of tankers filling my bath tub. But do want

I find that when I sacrificed my second plate for the reactive, I was able to survive more encounters against other sentinels due to having more reps. Also I spend less time in cover regenerating my hp because of my reps.

thats pretty much it but my cal build is like damage mods reactivve plates and thats all really.
The Krin's LEX-71 Damage Mod is equivalent to an Advanced Heavy Damage mod that also acts like a Standard Damage mod for your Sidearm. You are losing 1% damage on your heavy weapon, but gaining 4% damage on your sidearm, compared to running a Complex Heavy Damage mod. On my SMG/Forge Gun fit I could not fit Complex Heavy Damage mods with a Proto Forge gun and still have the Proto Kin Cat, but I found I could fit the Krin's LEX-71 BPO Damage mods.
You make a fair point, however the Krins does help a lot and in my opinion. I find that when I'm stuck in the middle of a firefight and need to reload or about to overheat, switching to my Magsec with that extra 4% dmg gives me a fighting chance. Also in ranged encounters, again it helps me, mind you its not as good as a bolt pistol but, personally, I don't like using the bolt pistol.

How do you think we can solve this without being OP or another FoTM that everyone will spam? Honestly, sentinels are some of the least expensive suits to run in the game. You shouldn't be upset about dying because you're incredibly isk efficient. Has the AHMG dispersion hotfix gone through yet? Generally speaking Sentinels generate less WP and thus make less ISK per battle than other suits. Granted if you are squad lead, and put the defend order on your Logi, and have someone with a scanner so you can get points off of orbitals, you can do quite well on the WP, but a sentinel running solo will be low on the leader-boards, even if they have top kills, unless they also hack a lot, or just get a massive kill count. Not having equipment slots results in lower earning potential. but you cant complain when the other team has LAVs, dropships and militia or even any tier tanks. lottsss of tanks O.O *starts day dreaming about a 1v3 with the tanks and killing them all* i wub retards. they get me lots of kills and WPs i can get over 2k wp from forging if they have vehicals and with a HMG as long as theres kills around theres lots of war points too. but back in the day i was able to get 1000wp within 5mins if blues didnt hack the installs along with the pointless ones around the map on outskirts. <3 the war points were real back then. I should have specified that I was referring to HMG Sentinels. I only just recently started experimenting with the Forge Gun again and I keep forgetting about the wonders of Vehicle damage WP.
I really wish they would give those WP to people who use the AHMG for AV, I would run it more.

Not my finest hour. When I am in the grove I am a lot better than that with an HMG, and with a Forge GunGǪ well actually that is about normal for my Forge Gun games. Every time I charged it up I die. It is still new to me. Never really used it much before.
It was good to see you in battle too bro. Should of warned you I make it my mission to hunt down people on the forums when I play lol. Look forward to our next meeting. I usually over aim when fighting other sents with HMG, I find a low sensitivity helps me from going over, doesn't help with scouts though.
Never really got into forge guns myself, I do have it for AV but don't take it out unless redlined and low on WP.

Also, when can we trade "Black Eagle" Assault Rifles? I have a bunch I need to move to this character. Yeah, the assaults get the most love. I have all amarr suits already but the heavy is what I used first thus it has a special place in my heart - HMG Sentinels and Scouts sucked for a year. - Then Assault suits sucked for a year. - Now Assault suits are on top again, but I don't feel that Sentinels are as far behind as we were in 2013/2014. When Rattati fixes the dispersion on the Assault HMG, that will help, as it will give us a chance to get out and get some fresh air, rather than hunkering down inside buildings all the time. I feel the HMG damage is a bit low now, but that is such a fine line to balance. Overall, the popularity of the different suit sizes/classes is fairly close to where I feel it should be. The majority of players should be in Assault suits. Sentinel and Scout should be specialty roles. I am thinking that we might see some placeholder Amarr/Gal weapons by late summer, which will be interesting.
Late winter for me lol. And I agree with you that Sents and scouts should be a specialty role. One thing that irritated me was the amount of people using Sents as an I Win Button, brought the Sentinel community down IMHO.
As for going outside and getting fresh air... I'm pretty sure that most of us will spontaneously combust due to the fact that we are spending all our time inside. I like my cave.

Just did a full match with it on my ADV Gal Suit. Went 20/5/6 KDR of 3.33 with 1263 WP.
That has been my average all night with the Standard variant. So I would have to say that I love it. It hold its own at range and can still handle the CQC situations vs scouts as well as a formidable weapon in Sentinel Duels.
I do fear, however, that this could be easily made into an OP weapon.
Edit: will do more matches to collect more data.

Second Match Complete. 10/6/14 KDR of 0.7, 852WP.
Went against a full squad of Soul of YAMOTO. Two of them were using the new AHMG. They know the weapon more than me. One went 27/12 the other went 14/4.
This weapon is extremely powerful now and I did get to test the AV capabilities with it this match and it was effective. Noticed that we get WP for damaging vehicles now.
Also Gaden, the longer you fire the tighter it gets and it tightens extremely fast.

The only Chat channel I maintain is Learning Coalition chat, which is sort of a new player help channel, with a lot of general game related discussion, and a place for new players and vets to squad up. There has been three or four attempts to make a heavy chat channel, but non of them really got off the ground. Do you guys want me to start a "The Bastian" channel?
I wouldn't mind one.
Anyway Third Match Complete (and final for my data gathering, bit lazy I know). 11/13/7 KDR of 1.57, 939 WP
Went against the same guys as the last match but took logi support with me. Played the range game in this one as well as used cover.
Conclusion: The recent buff has made the AHMG viable and powerful. In itself it is not too OP but has the potential to be OP. It can be used in CQC and Range but would advise using it in ranged encounters.
The AV capabilities are decent, no where near a proto swarm or fg but can still get you some decent amount of WP. Combine them with AV nades for effect.
My Opinion: This is a variant that I want to get good with.

Its actually a very legitimate strategy. You wouldn't want to leave it defenseless and let the other team capture it and win it. Sentinels are best at this because of our high eHP and the ability to use the HMG.
Camping would be sitting by an enemy uplink, going into their spawn or sitting by a CRU they have.

I tend to stay away from Forge Guns in general, I have never been good with it and with the dead zones in my PS3 Controller it makes it hard for me to get that accurate aim on infantry. Against vechiles, I'm too bad of a shot and really bad at judging distance to lead the target effectively.
For AV purposes (before the fixes to the AHMG) I would run a Minmando. Now that the dispersion is fixed on the AHMG, I just use that with some AV Nades. I just spam the nades first then go to town with the AHMG

I think you are absolutely wrong about the mobility and a little about the rest of your post, but for now I will talk about mobility.
I run solo most the time and in most matches I either wait for an uplink or spawn in and call me an LAV to get close to the objective faster. I've actually even gone as far as skilling into LAVs because I like using them.
If you remove our ability to drive vechiles, it will eliminate two things: Drive By HMG tactics AND solo Sentinels getting to the objective fast enough to defend/assault.
As for your not being a gunner idea, what are you smoking? If I'm doing LAV runs with a gunner, I rather have my gunner be a Brick Tanked Sentinel than an assault or logi or scout. Reason being is that the gunner is exposed and easy to pick off, so I would want someone that can sustain a lot of damage. Also when I'm doing my LAV runs, I want to be in my sentinel suit because (surprise surprise) I'm exposed and open to being shot at by any weapon.
On drop ships you can take out the gunners without damaging the dropship itself. So again Sentinels are good for being a gunner as they can survive being shot by a crack shot sniper.

Don't have one yet bit I might pick up the Gallente one. Trying to decide if I buy it with Aur and grind for the skin or just grind for the suit.

Why not try double reps and one reactive, get some meat and reps.

That might by me 1 or 2 seconds but I'd take much longer to rep up to decent levels.
Fair point.

Meh. Sentinel doesn't have enough reps to outrep things. You can't even factor in cover because you're slow.
Actually you can out rep and take cover if you have the right gun game and fit it properly. Take your fat hate elsewhere.

Actually you can out rep and take cover if you have the right gun game and fit it properly. Take your fat hate elsewhere. No, you can't. Even with 3 complex reps giving roughly 10 a second you would still be out-matched by most heavies in the Rep department, and they won't need to sacrifice to obtain it. 35 reps a second with 650 base health takes how long? vs 50 and how much Caldari gets for shield? You're out of the fight for too long to save your KDR, you're better off dying and respawning in 10 seconds.. And you won't have the stamina to make a decent duck-and-cover-heavy-suit, you're quite literally putting yourself at a disadvantage trying to play the Gal that way. The only reason people even use that pathetic suit is because it is a heavy suit - each one of them is OP in comparison to any other type of suit in a 1v1 situation. In pub games where everyone is running around the objective rather then protecting it - I'm sure it seems like a 'killer' suit. But it's not. It doesn't do anything the best, barely does what it does do well, and has no real purpose or situation where you'd want to pick a Gal suit to get you out of a bad situation. You'll always look to the strength/versatility of the Amarr, the shield reps of the Caldari, or the speed of the Min.
So you are talking about the actual suit and not factoring the multiple ways someone could fit it or a persons gungame/skills and are assuming that it is the weakest of the lot?
I have been running GalSent since it was released and I have never given up on it and I refuse to give up on it now. I do not care about my KD/R and I play a sentinel the way it's suppose to be: Point Defense. I only play pubs when I cant get into FW so don't assume I am a pub scrub.
Also I do play cover and run sentinel with my fitting, and I do well. If you cant get the GalSent to work for you, thats on you and you shouldnt use it, but it works for me so dont try to put me down because of it as it makes you look the fool.

Shadowed Cola wrote:I clearly said, first line second paragraph, the only reason the suit gets used is because, like every other sentinel, it feels strong compared to other suits.
And I consider FW to be a pub game. Neither side is fully organized or communicating the majority of the time and are generally separated by squads or a bunch of solo players. And matches are decided by a draw of a hat from Scotty.
It's not like that Gal can't perform - if you can't do anything in any heavy suit you're just plainly a bad player. But the suit in comparison to any role for any circumstance for any given time - you're better off with a different heavy suit.
Loyalty is cool, I'm an Amarr Loyalist, but if you're truly loyal to your faction you'll use what's best suited to win. Losing for your factions while wearing there colors is pub scrub logic. Only winners are recognized.
You must be new here. I am not a gallente loyalist, hell I am only doing Gal Factional for the Atlas and thats it. Anyone who has stumbled into the IGS at one point or another would come across a post of my character showing his disdain for the empires except for the Minmatar.
Also with the amount of Q Syncing going on these days, its become less random and more organized. Occasionally you will get the one sided stomp but lately it has been fair sided down to the wire fights.
And to be honest I have out performed Amarrian and Caldari sentinels before without logi support (I didnt have it). Keep in mind scrublord that the suit and fitting only counts for 35% of your potential on the field, the rest comes from your own player skills and tactics.
A sh.tty fit in the hands of a decent player is better than the FOTM in the hands of a scrub. This has been proven time and time again.

Breakin Stuff wrote:Shadowed Cola wrote:Breakin Stuff wrote:Honestly i would like to push for sentinels to be a fire support platform rather than a mainline suit.
Having scouts and sentinels argue over who gets to be CQC kings is getting old. If sentinels are best at CQC then scouts should have a harder time killing us with shotguns.
But if sentinels are intended as a ranged support platform then shottyganking is working as intended.
But this back and forth BS really needs to go. We're ... already fire support... Unless you stand in front of us, other weapons DPS are higher, at longer ranges, in maps that mostly favor such play. Against suits capable of escaping our broken firepower. If it wasn't for objectives themselves being CQC territory heavies wouldn't even have a purpose on the field. Scouts can't say that. But even as it is - scouts finish up what heavies push back. or Assaults. Without the fire-power to do the pushing then you're better off never fielding it. TTK is still too low to justify it's existence. even with high DPS we have such limited range that most of us are forced to put some kind of speed mod on. Take away damage, wtf do we next? Killing is the only way we get WP's too - so how do you off-set the WP loss that we already don't get compared to classes with equipment? I'm not liking this direction at all >_> The point. you missed it. Right now the sentinel is a mainline brawler, not a suppression/support suit. Anyone who says that we're a support class right now doesn't understand the concept of supporting or suppressive fire.
I still consider myself a Sentinel true to form: A defender. Seriously I just sit my fat ass in an objective. Do I brawl? When the need arises. But I mainly just sit.
Note: In no way am I saying that a Defender is a support role.
