In February, the hearts of many grow heavy. But love is a battlefield and there are none better equipped to deal with the damage than the mercenaries of DUST 514. And toughest of all of them are the brave men and women who don the heavy suits, acting as a shield and line of defense for their more squishy squad mates.
Operation Mauler It's time for the heavies to make their power known on the battlefield! From February 19th to March 5th, players can participate in Operation Mauler, where heavy suit users will be pitted against those who stick to the lighter suits to prove their skills. This event will run across all contract types.
Wear a Basic Heavy or Sentinel dropsuit and score kills with heavy weapons to earn bonus SP and extra weapons to continue your destructive rampage! For every kill you make with a HMG or Forge Gun, you'll earn extra 500 SP (up to a cap of 500k SP), plus one Prototype AUR version of the weapon you used (up to a total of 300). Plus, if you kill a vehicle, you'll earn double the WP earned for the kill as bonus SP (up to a cap of 250k SP). That means there's a potential total of 750000 bonus SP to be earned!
But life as a heavy isn't all tank kills and bonus SP. Because anyone who scores a kill against a player wearing a Basic Heavy or Sentinel suit will earn bonus 250 bonus SP (up to the same 500k SP cap) plus an ISK bounty based on the tier of the dropsuit (capped at 10 million ISK).

So kills with a HMG/FG shares the same 500k bonus SP cap as the one for killing Heavies/Sentinels? Or are they different caps meaning you can get a total of 1 million bonus SP (plus the 250k for killing vehicles)?

They share the same pool. You can earn a total of 750k from the event. You can ONLY earn the vehicle bonus by using heavy suits.

This is a good event, because the SP reward is very appropriately placed, even if we get 20 kills as a heavy its only 10k SP, and up to 500k, which is 1000 kills, thats alot but those who get them deserve the SP. Consider the average skirm is 4k SP, then cosider thats 8 kills for heavies in the event, which sounds about right for the average blueberry in skirmy. Then considering the difficulty of a tank kill with AV, the 250k (250tank kills) is nearly impossible to reach unless you go tryhard mode and play alot, in which case you deserve the SP. The rewards are also very enticing for heavies for that good SP, so i expect to see a decent amount. That means other suits will have a good chance at killing heavies too.

Merely for my understanding: * Only basic Heavy and basic Sentinel suits count ** Adv, Pro, Blueprint and LP suits don't count * Any HMG or FG counts ** Std, Adv, Pro, Blueprint and LP weapons count, as long as they have tag_heavy set as a tag (and not on a modifier) ** Payout is always the Pro AUR version of either

All Basic Heavy suits count. This means both Standard, Advanced and Prototype (can't remember if there are any LP or other Basic suits, but they would count as well). All Sentinel suits count. This means Militia, Standard, Advanced, Prototype, Aurum, LP (litterally all Sentinel suits). There are no Basic Sentinel suits.
Otherwise you should be correct on the other points.
Edit: In short then every suit with a Heavy Weapon slot counts.

So, I have some questions. How much point I can get when I kill a vehicle? Is it includes only vehicle destroying point(for example:if I killed a tank, I get 150*2=300SP as bonus.) or includes killing the driver(it adds 50*2=100 points)? And can't I get the SP if I use AV grenades, swarms, or so? The other question is about killing heavy suits. Can I get SP as bonus, when I kill the heavys while I use medium or light suits,or using light weapons?

It's classified as "sentinel" so it should qualify.
I think what they meant by "basic" are the suits with 1/2, 2/2, and 2/3 slot loadouts that don't get the sentinel bonuses or require the sentinel skill. The "basic frame" suits. I don't think they meant basic in the sense of standard level suits. Basic is a describer of modules BTW (i.e. basic shield extender).

The forge lightning balls of death are going to be raining...I suggest any dropship or LAV to kiss their ass goodbye now, HAV's you might be cool for a minute or two, but you'll die just as well. Every heavy suit knows that the HMG sucks, except at proto levels really, and if no one plays the heavy suit people will be sad pandas as they don't get those bonus sp and isk. So lets hope for the friendly vehicle armageddon that is sure to come. Though I honestly wish they would have added commando suits onto the list though can understand it...since it is for heavy weapons only. |

Waait... So Militia Heavy doesnt count, for getting kills as a Heavy?
Which means Eon BPO doesnt count? :(
If militia doesnt count, then a beginner Heavy player would have to drop a freakin boatload of SP into this to make it ISK effective, since "basic heavy" frames cost a boatload, compared to sentinel.
yeah, I know for the scout event, "militia" ones didnt count... but light frames didnt count either.
In this one, you're letting basic heavy frames count. So how about letting militia count as well? After all, it's really about promoting use of true Heavy Weapons, isnt it?

Wow! Are you telling me, someone who's played as a Heavy for over a year, that only Proto HMGs are any good? Well thank you so much for filling me in! And here I have been melting bitches with my stupid, under-powered ADV and STD tier HMGs. I cannot thank you enough for showing me the light. /s
Proto HMGs are hardly necessary. ADV is barely weaker than Proto and I can even make the STD HMG work for me. Maybe you're just bad.

Note: for some reason the forums are no longer telling me when someone replies to my posts so I may not see a response if I do get one
So.....when are the um......new dropsuits coming out CCP.....it's been a few weeks now....

yup, this is an excellent point. Because, while I'd like "a heavy suit".. I want a CALDARI heavy suit. So, me speccing into amarr heavy right now, would be counter-productive to my longer-term goals.

There is a no-skill HMG in the Minmatar LP store, that works juuuust fine. For the bsic heavy-suit, I think there are militia versions available (I use a Blueprint sentinel), otherwise it requires very little SP to get lvl 1.

You know? I don't wanna be negative but I think this 750k SP opportunity is their attempt to side step a refund.
Still good event I like how there seems to be more, maybe sloppier, events and the huge SP pool kinda compensates that.

There are TWO important questions still left unanswered:
1. which BPOs, if any, count? (my vote: if kill is by a heavy weapon, it should count!)
2. What if you get a vehicle kill, and there are heavies inside? That could theoretically count towards either reward, depending on what youre wearing at the time.
So... what are the answers, CCP?

well considering in a "real" pc that there are only 2-4 scouts per side, and hardly any needles being used, I could take a wild chance and say that any battle with 100+ scout deaths on any side would be considered "boosting". It's not like I didn't fully explain the possible scenario's the same week the event was announced or anything.

to give incentive to run heavy for CCP stats collection would be my guess on the 500 vs 250 sp question.

(Excuse me for my poor English, but many japanese mercs are waiting the answer.)
For killing a vehicle in a heavy suit with a Forge Gun you will get double the SP and double the driver kill. We are looking into if counting passenger kill is possible.
Only vehicle kills with the Forge Gun count or HMG (on LAV for example) will receive double SP. However, you can use AV grenades or swarm launcher to weaken the vehicles first.
Yes on the last question you get the kill heavy suit SP reward. However, if you kill a heavy suit with a HMG then you will get credit for both objectives i.e. kill bonus with HMG and kill bonus for the heavy.

The potential total bonus SP from the event is 750K SP per character. The 500K pool is for all infantry kills i.e. both killing heavies or killing as a heavy. But I am open to discussions on this.
We are working towards rewarding players when they accomplish the event goals, but for now the rewards will be given after the event has concluded.

I am sick and tired of CCP running events and then not rewarding us for weeks afterwards. I won't even be trying with this event unless I am instantly rewarded with the extra SP! |

You can use the militia heavy dropsuits for the event. |

(Excuse me for my poor English, but many japanese mercs are waiting the answer.) For killing a vehicle in a heavy suit with a Forge Gun you will get double the SP and double the driver kill.
Thank you very much! I translated and showed this in my blog:)

Since the payout is after the even ends, it is safe to assume that boosters and squad orders will not affect the .75 mil available as a bonus.

As a Dust 514 player I can say with almost all certainty that everyone involved in the event will have a good time, (but pointing out the obvious is not why I'm here) I'm here because I want to say that having missed out in the December and January events I am pleased to see a SP event so I may Proto out a few more things. The ISK is a pretty good reward too but I imagine just about 45% of all players will be heavy suits. So this is a message to all players using Low damage per clip but high DPS weapons. (designed for dealing with a few militia or basic at once) You might want to spend some skill points on High damage per clip weapons before the event. RoF is meaningless if you don't have a big enough clip to put those heavies down.
On a side note I am certain all of you already know this, but this message was mostly targeted to the newer players. |

This event should include some logi bonus points also. How can the heavies stay alive if we logi's are not repping them????
True logi's have not had an event that includes repping resupply etc.
I can see that the logi's are not going to make much money (as we do not gun much) but we are going to be the number 1 target for the heavies. My adv rep logi with core focus rep tool costs around 90k, Normally don't die much but I can see my ISK being drained by this event.
CCP please think before you do one of these events. If you have heavies then you need logi's. |

Was this caused from the recent matchmaking fix or have these nerds figured out CCP's secrets?
If this isn't fixed by the event, expect a lot of farming and exploiting in public matches.
Although I noticed these Corp members tried to not be too obvious, killboard avg 5/15 to 30/10.

unless you use flux and mass driver. If there are going to be soooo many heavies about its presumable you could steal kills from other heavies.the chrome logis will shine.

Hey guys
So during testing we found an issue regarding the rewards for killing vehicles, so unfortunately we have had to pull that part of the event. As such, we have decided to roll the extra 250k SP from that portion of the event in to the main SP cap, so now you can earn a total of 750k SP from killing heavies or getting kills with heavy weapons.

You can kind of grind for both but the pool does not stack, so each character can earn a max amount of 750K SP each. But, if you kill a heavy dropsuit while using a heavy dropsuit and heavy weapon you can stack the SP bonus. |

Further, why not push this event back until we have more than two possible weapons to choose from? (i.e., more than two heavy weapons.)

...what happens when i kill somebody in a vehicle with my forge.. and lets say like most people they try to jump out and it blows up next to them and i get a JAKOBI WAN () ENEMY or a JAKOBI WAN (suicide) ENEMY or a JAKOBI WAN (vehicle) ENEMY or.. anything besides it regestering my forge kill.. honestly i expected more SP killing vehicles than mercs because of how often they suicide via self-road kill inspite of their vehicles blowing to tiny little pieces on top of them, and if i can assume that passanger kills skill wont count as heavy weapon kills i guess i'm just out of luck and there's no point in forging except until after i cap reward SP
it's just too bad that this is a waste of time for a career forge gunner, the ISK made forge gunning in a single vehicle-populated public match is more than enough to resupply all the forge guns i need. i'll be keeping my mauler suits in the closet for now.. shoulda called it Operation Tigris instead of Mauler :P |

If I see a Tank or a Dropship on fire, I am definitely going to shoot it with my HMG. Heck, if a dropship pilot gets stuck on something, you can get close enough, and you have the time/ammo you can probably solo it with an HMG.

SP is given after event, so boosters do not effect it as it is not affecting your end of match payout.

Do you get rewards If you use Imperial Items? I'm currently using Republic HMG plus Imperial Sentinel A-1. I'm wondering if you can use a MLT Amarr heavy with a basic HMG and still get rewards. I actually am planning to skill HMG next, in preparation for my 1.8 Gallente Sentinel.

Anyhow, I want to thank all the heavies for giving their lives to us during this event. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. I'll give ISK to the guys that I kill frequently. I'm more interested in the bonus SP anyways.
BTW CCP, the matchmaking was still messed up yesterday. Squads from the same corp on opposite teams in pub matches. Farming and exploiting will still happen during this event until it's fixed.
I enjoy killing Heavies, Snipers, and Scanemies.

Yes but active boosters increase the amount of SP that you earn in game. I'm going to be killing people in game with my HMG. Therefore I should get 750SP per kill and an increase of the event cap.

Apologies if this has already been answered, but how and when are the ISK/SP from these events rewarded? For example, I got the suits for the shinobi event but no idea if I got the ISK or how much it was.
So, for this event, is the SP/ISK awarded right away, or will it be given all at once later like the weapons?

Attention! The following text was written under influence of aggression and frustration, so donGÇÖt take it too serious.
Dear CCP! The idea of this game is amazing, i love all the races, weapons, vehicles and what you want to bring in your new update, allthough I donGÇÖt think that it will come during my lifetime (waiting for weeks now). The only little problem is: This game is completely made out of bugs. I think that you, CCP, offered this game to make us all go mad, you want us all to go completely crazy.
Just to mention a few things:
The combat rifle is unplayable (laggs extremely hard on pretty much every map, because pretty much every map laggs).
There is no controls setup, that allows you to drive a tank, because if you use the standard controls, you can't shoot for no reason when using any hardener (i lost over 10 standard tanks), and if you use the 'Duty Calls' setup, you can't reload.
Sometimes vehicles have the random will to explode, for example when landing a dropship.
Sniping is no option for me because on the one side you canGÇÖt climb on any mountain because you lagg and bugg so hard, that it is just impossible, and on the other side most of the time my enemies seem to have an invincibility shield against sniper bullets (unfortunately this item isn't available for me on the market, although everyone else seems to have it).
Sometimes I spawn over a hole and die. In my proto suit.
Sometimes when I jump out of the MCC I explode.
Between me and Dust there is something like a hatelove, although the hate is much bigger than the love. I donGÇÖt want to be unfriendly, I am very thankful for this awesome game, but at the current version of this game (which isnGÇÖt even on early beta-niveau), it is unplayable, and thus I wonGÇÖt play it anymore (until the update comes out in a few decades). I would ask to fix all these problems, but they exist since I started playing this game, months ago, so they donGÇÖt seem to be severe enough to get fixed. I accepted these bugs all these months long, to play an awesome game, but in the last few days I lost so many suits and tanks because of bugs, I just had to leave all my anger out.
I wrote this text to show you, that this update is very important for me, it is important for all of us, not only to bring new content, but to fix all those annyoing bugs that make this game unplayable. I postet this text at this section, because i hoped that the update will be released in February, but at this moment I am not sure anymore. I hope that the (very) long-awaited update will come out in the next days and that it brings fixes for those bugs and that it is a part of your "February Events".
Yours Zaos Kathar

We will put the item rewards in the character redeem queue so you get to decide which character gets them. We are looking into doing the same for ISK rewards. Skill point rewards will be put into your character's skill point pool. We will give out all reward types after the event has concluded. |

Can someone plz clarify the answers to these.... I think I have it right, but am wondering...
What would you qualify for in the following conditions, cause I'm confused on whether or not WEARING a Heavy Suit and killing with a NON-heavy weapon does anything.
Basically you ONLY get anything if you either: (1) kill someone with a heavy weapon (2) kill a heavy suit
Logistics - Sniper Rifle, kills heavy == (A) Heavy - Sniper Rifle, kills heavy == (B) Heavy Suit - HMG or FG, kills heavy == (A+B)
LEGEND (A) USE heavy weapon = 500 SP + proto weapon (B) KILL heavy suit = 250 SP + ISK reward (A+B) USE heavy weapon to KILL heavy suit = 750 SP + proto weapon + ISK reward

And as always, if you see someone boosting, report it! The GMs take great pleasure in squishing people that boost in these events.
How do GMs tell, definitively, if someone is or is not boosting? What if someone happens to find a spot where heavies are constantly spawning and just kill them? What if someone queue syncs a FW and they have someone on the other side drop an uplink for them and they camp it?
I would appreciate it if you could tell us, exactly, how you go about determining if someone is, in fact, boosting in an event. Cause, I camp uplinks during events and I don't want to be banned for boosting when I wasn't. |

No, I'm afraid he was mistaken.

The only bonus he'd have access to would be killing other heavies, which anyone can do anyway.

I've gone from disliking, to liking, to intensely disliking this event.
At first I thought 'this will be an awful grind'. Then I started using HMG and enjoyed it. But after a while it become an awful grind after all. I am sick of having to run HMGs every game if I want to taste a reasonable amount of the extra SP. (I don't like tower forging in pubs, and FG is not really going to get you many kills if you're on the ground.)
I know it's bonus SP, in addition to the usual SP payout. But CCP know and every player knows that SP is the main thing, or at least one of the main things, driving the game. People pay actual money for boosters, so of course they're going to go out of their way to get extra SP. The problem is, it is not fun, AT ALL, to run the same weapon (one I wouldn't usually use) every game. And we're only a few days into the event - how bored is everyone who's doing the event going to be in a week and a half?
I play the game most days, but I'm still only getting 500 kills per week, so about 1000 for the duration of the event. That's more than most of the playerbase. But with the 500SP per HMG/FG kill bonus and 750,000SP bonus cap, you need 1,500 kills. So even if I use HMG constantly, I'm not going to hit the cap.
The cap should have been set way lower. I thought 400,000 at first, but even that is too high. I think 200,000 or 300,000 would have been better.
400,000SP is 800 kills, so given I'm getting some kills with grenades, SMGs and OBs even when I carry HMG, even a 400,000SP cap would mean I had to carry HMG every game if I'm going to get all the bonus SP. So that's just as grindy as 750,000SP. But with 200,000 or 300,000, you 'only' need 400 or 600 kills. So a player who plays roughly as much as I do would get a little 'wriggle room', and wouldn't need to run HMG every game.
Please CCP, for future events, set the 'number of kills with specific weapons (HMG/FG in this case) to exhaust bonus SP' much lower. Setting it as high as 750,000, or even 400,000-500,000, just makes the event ubergrindy. At least with the vanilla trebled SP cap you could play how you wanted. I feel like this event turns players off from the game, by forcing them to choose between SP and enjoyment.
Finally, I should say that event stat tracking is also very much needed. |

Thanks for the feedback. The grind element is there for this event partly to encourage players to play more. However, I also understand where you're coming from, to some, this could seem to be excessive. The idea is to give players a big SP bonus, so we set it to 750K. The feeling of it being a grind is in the SP per kill amount.
If we set the SP reward to say, 1000 SP per kill for the next event, that would effectively cut down the kills required to reach the cap by half. So, instead of having to make between 1000 to 1500 kills, it would be around 500 to 750 kills. I am open to discussion on this, so let me know your thoughts.
We also agree that progression tracking is sorely needed and are negotiating with the development team to up the priority to make this feature. |

Are you suggesting cutting the kills needed mid event? First you found a bug you missed after the event started, makign the vehicle kill portion no longer needed, now, unless I'm reading this wrong, you're suggesting you might cut the kills needed in half?
I doubt you have efficient stat tracking to track everyone's current kill count and I highly doubt you can just lower the kill count and actually compensate for those that have gone over the new kill count or are still under it. That is, unless I read it wrong.
By the way, a dev/GM has yet to answer my question about how you guys are actually able to tell if someone is boosting or not. Have you guys looked at the leader boards lately? I'm pretty sure a lot of those folks are boosting. If you aren't constantly watching the top players, then you people are hypocrites that deserve to have your game fail. Just saying. |

To be honest one of the biggest problems with these kind of events is That unles you take a pen and paper and literally write down everyone you kill; there is no way to know when you are done. CCP is tracking this hence The tools are already out there to make a small tab in the end of battle with your progression status of the event. For example in the event tab (which only appears if events of this type are active), you can have; taking this event as an example: Kills with heavy weapon and Heavies you've killed
All in all, the grind is made worse because there is a huge uncertainty of just how far along you are in the event. I for example am writing down all the kills I do in a match without including any kill done with any other weapon. But I still dont know how many heavies I killed with my HMG because that would be too much work... Si I have to stick to just trying to hit the fabled 1500 kills in a 2 week period.
Now again this is a grind but it's made worse because we as players don't know how many kills we have. BTW this is around 107 kills per day... Thats 10 matches getting at least 10 kills in most and 11 or 12 in some matches. Many poeple might say this is easy but, we also have to take into consideration that the HMG is a short ranged weapon with a very small window of engagement. As far as things are, camping is not always a solution because you are at the mercy of the enemy actually wanting to come to your point after you kill a couple of them. Which if you are good enough they will stop doing so. Then if you are bored you have to travel to another point wasting even more time or resources while still not giving you the security of actually getting kills since, as a heavy most other weapon types will have killed the enemy before you get into your optimal which already has about 50% decrease in damage via spread (at it's optimal; yes you heard right ^^).
Also did read the points I just thought that adding a post of the same nature would make it double important? TL;DR
- Grind is too much for the weapon type (any other weapon type would have been fine with these numbers but the HMG is a handicap in most situations where your enemy has half a brain to kill you from 20 meters and above)
- No visual way to know where your standing in the event; I.E. summary that tells you how far along you are (kills with HMG/heavies killed)
The event is great, don't get me wrong but it's a bit too much for a weapon that is out DPS'ed at ranges above 14 meters and is couple with a slow suit.

These are my numbers as of today and I am lucky that the College load is little and the wife doesn't mind. I am not the best player and of course I've had 20+ kills at some points before I started writing them down but 20+ kills with an HMG is not a regular thing unless you are using proto all the time and/or are extremely good. I am neither extremely good, nor am I using proto.
All in all the numbers I will show are that of the regular Merc who is neither in a squad with 5 other protostompers, neither a prodigy with an HMG or using proto all the time. This is the average Joe who plays for fun and is sometimes with a buddy or two, other times alone and just trying to grind through this event to get his SP. Papa needs some level 5's. I am using advanced gear with 2 complex damage mod for the added damage to my advanced Burst HMG. I have profi 5 but as I said I am not the best of players.
Key: M=Match T = Total D = Daily total
HERE IS MY CHART
I also Have to say that I have had a lot of time to play; not many people do. Also, this is my second chart on my third day of the even, although the event has had 4 days to it If I am not mistaken.

He said 'next event'.
As for your last point, why do you think the top players are boosting? Maybe if you give some reasons CCP might think about looking into it. If your reason is just 'Duna's KDR is too high!', that's just because he mercilessly stomps noobs in EU ambush using the ridiculously OP tanks. No boosting required. |

Yeah this is the problem with HMG, you can put up big numbers if the fighting is really intense and close quarters, but that doesn't happen often. This week I had one 39 kill game (with logi support), a couple of other 30-odd kill games, but the majority are below 15.
The first game I played with RR+medium for a change I got 41 kills, and it was 20+ every game after that. This is with advanced suit, proto weapon with high proficiency, and M1 grenades - same combination I use with HMG.
Basically the HMG is a difficult weapon to run all game, every game because it is so situational. That makes the grind worse than it would be with many weapons. |

This is all I need. So far I've been going to the leaderboards and looking at my weekly kills, then assuming about 90% of them are with an HMG. An actual display in the UI somewhere would be awesome.

I dont have the time to play much and now so far behind i will never catch up these events just make it worse.

At first I thought 'this will be an awful grind'. Then I started using HMG and enjoyed the change of pace. But after a while it became an awful grind after all.

IMO, I personally think the reward per killed should be upped to reduce the grindy feel of this event. It's kinda fun running around mass-murdering with an HMG but it's very difficult to sit through it all when situations change and a slow heavy is no-longer optimal. Reducing the time input necessary would be a big help to get these guys back into their preferred suits.
Another thing I want to point out is that, for some players, there's a level of SP investment before hand due to a lack of militia HMGs. 335,800 (out of the 750,000 reward) just to use a standard HMG unless you're using Loyalty Store HMGs (considerable time investment) or Aurum HMGs (requires payment! Which... might not be a bad thing actually.)
It's kind of a punch in the gut for some players to have to invest SP to get more in the end, which they aren't forced to but let's be honest it's certainly a hell of a lot easier than grinding out FW matches to pay for the tools you need to participate in the event =P

seriously is there anything this community doesn't QQ over?
There have been all kinds of other events, NONE of which REMOTELY catered to a heavy user. who along with scouts have been shunned more than anyone on this game (until soon obviously)
Now an event comes out that actually promotes the endangered species of heavy users, and ppl wanna whine even more.
Get off it. U want the SP, get lvl 1 hmg and a lvl 1 fat suit and get to work, or better yet sit back and farm fatties and get your bonus SP that way...
this is a good event for not only the dedicated heavies, but also good for people to try out a new class, and for people to stop running from us :P

im not arguing the fact that 'grinding' causes burnout and people to finally move on to other games.. seen it for well over a year.
im only pointing out the fact that we have an event, that caters to the obese community, which is an even smaller subset of an ever-shrinking player base.
we finally have a moment in the sun, and all these people wanna take a dump on that too...
all Im sayin.
We have provided so much input over time on how to address the 'grind' of SP and how to better close the gap.
literally 15m SP and anyone can have a stout toon that can compete with nolifers like me.
new toon.. no SP cap up to a certain point so that gap disappears.
once u hit 20mil or so you are just working on another role, no advantage over anyone else just providing yourself variety.
but events like this do at LEAST provide the opportunity for those 12-15 players that started way late and are committed for 1 reason or another, to reach that 15m SP milestone, since they are still stuck at the same cap as us with much, much more, with no possibility of closing the gap and will likely hit burnout level before ever getting that SP level to make a strong toon.

My point is the game is so unfun at this point that events like this do more to showcase how bad things have got than add any enjoyment value. People are not pooping on your event there screaming out that playing dust is not fun. If it was fun we would be seeing lots of heavy sux/ heavys rule threads. Instead a see a very inactive fourm with just the same names poating.
Food for thought this game on advarage has had around 3000 players active for well over a year.
Now just think for a second that implies that dust has a freaking HUGE drop out rate either at the end game or the npe or both. Even EvE is still growing. Unless dust gets an signifact overhall its going to suffer a death of thounsdand cuts, if thats not happend all ready.
Im angry and busy so doubt im very clear, so the sort version is. Dust is unfun end of and their are new games hitting the market that will do what Dust514 does better.
Noone gives a **** about the EvE link because it has no impact on how we actullay shoot at each other. Which is more an exerise in finding someone fighting the controls and then finding out they out gear ypu so your ****** anyway.

Personally, I have no problem with the grind of events past and present. For me, events are put in place to break up the monotony of the game. After putting so many hours in to Dust, players will find that they are getting bored. When I get bored I try new things. I try flying dropships, I try out commandos, I try the plasma cannon.
Of course there are always the players that never switch up their playstyle. The types of players who run the same fit over and over and over again. How do they not get bored? How could they be so mindless?
What I want from CCP is more events. It doesn't matter what they are but I need to be given something to do; something to strive towards in game. Also, they don't have to be skill point events. The Black Eagle event was really awesome in my opinion. It gave me the chance to use a sneaky and speedy suit with two light weapons. Plus it gave newer players the chance to try out a halfway decent scout suit without having to skill into scouts. Obviously attaining a 5.0 K/D was nearly impossible, I just said to myself that I may as well try it and it was a blast.
Events are a way of pulling players away from the "flavour of the month" fits. During this heavy event I was playing in a game against kaizuka sniper and typically you'll see him in a full proto medium fit with a proto weapon. In this game he was running advanced heavy gear with I think just a basic HMG. He didn't finish the game as high up on the killboard as he normally would but I am sure that he had more fun.
Are more players online during events? Probably. CCP, I want more events. It does not matter what they are there just needs to be more. |

Are more players online during events? Probably. CCP, I want more events. It does not matter what they are there just needs to be more. As I'm one of the people complaining about the event, let me pitch in here.
I like the basic idea of events rewarding people for using a different playstyle, in this case HMG. I played a skirmish today that went right down to the wire - both teams were on their final tick of armour with all points changing hands, and when we won we were down to two or three clones as well. The fight in the city was intense, I was spawning into hopeless situations just to get a couple of kills with HMG and distract the reds from hacking for a few more seconds. I went 40-13, not amazing KDR-wise and very expensive, but it was much, much more enjoyable than the 40+-0 games I've had in a medium suit.
The problem is that that is not the usual situation for a game with the HMG. A lot of games you are just stuck waiting for the enemy to come to you. In those situations I want to be able to switch to a different suit and go looking for trouble, but this event penalizes me in SP terms if I do that. If the cap was lower or (as Cmdr Wang has suggested) the SP per kill was higher, that would be less of an issue.
TL;DR I agree that events should encourage people to switch up their playstyle. But when the SP cap is very high relative to per kill payout, people are stuck playing only one playstyle for two weeks straight. That's the reverse of what the event should be about - providing a more varied experience. |

From the perspective of a veteran player (whee 6 months!) I'll definitely concur that this feels like a pretty serious grind.
If the objective of these events is to encourage more play overall, then objectives that encourage teamwork might work better.
e.g. Bonus to squad member who scans the target who is killed by a heavy, or whose teammember/squadmate kills a heavy. Bonus to the Logi who is repping the heavy when doing the kill. Bonus to someone who gets an assist kill on said heavy. Perhaps a bonus to the squad in some way?
For the current event you're looking at 200+ matches with ~7-8 kills a match how it is currently over the two week timeframe. And that is assuming I'm just running a heavy, not the style of suit that I typically play ... now ... if there was a 'Community Goal' as part of this event say ...if "The community kills X number of Heavies" and/or "Heavies kill X number of players" then everyone gets (Insert Cool Prize Here). SP is great ... ISK is fine ... but in the end everyone wants to be a winner.
At the end of the day, the objective (I would think) is to get more people playing consistently ... and becoming more involved in the game (so they want to bring their friends.) (Much like the Mass Effect Weekend Challenges.)
Right now there is very little understanding of how Eve interacts with Dust ... and weekend challenges that allow the community to become more involved with the Eve universe would help push that forward. (e.g. Using the 'Special Contracts' to allow Eve to have more of an effect on Events that are taking place in Dust. If you're looking for an example, refer to the Mass Effect Weekend Challenges from Mass Effect 3.) If a faction is pushing in location X in Eve, a weekend event where Dusties are needed for ground support on that push, or against that push. Instead of just 'Sign in for a faction fight! You'll get lootz!' |

CCP Cmdr Wang wrote: Thanks for the feedback.
Why not just make the kills 1000 / 500 instead of the 500/250. Your already counting the kills and such, and it's not like anything has been rewarded as of yet. No matter what choice you make, people are going to complain about it so why make it where the skilled people make all the SP + ISK when the new people you are encouraging are the ones that need it more just to be able to have fun? At least this way it's more of an even playful where everyone has the opportunity to max out if they play at least a decent amount. Some people have lives outside of gaming and don't have the kind of time that people living in their parent's houses or people that own their own businesses do, etc. (no disrespect to any of them, as I own my own business so I'm speaking in favor of others).
I might seem like I'm complaining and want easier points to some people who look for the worse in a post to complain about, but I am getting over 150-300 (10-15 kills per game) kills a day easily, as I try to max out ASAP since I don't know what I will end up doing in the course of the week.
I think people often forget that this game is not MANDATORY to be played, as there is no obligation. I can understand people voicing their opinions, but I wish it was done moreso in a professional manner than people whining all the damn time. I mean wow... if this game disgust you THAT much... quit playing it. You can easily UNINSTALL it just as easy as you INSTALLED it.
Join the revolution... change the future.

So vehicle kills don't count... My question is do the people that die in the vehicle count? and if so when I blow up something with people inside and they show as "'randomname' killed by death" or something amazing like that, does the count still kill? I'm not expecting any dropship kills to count though as they're mostly "'randomguy' commited suicide" as he jumps from his burning piece of metal. Thanks in advance... VIDEO!!!!
Hello guys,
I finished the event yesterday officially. After 2 days of winging it, I decided to start taking notes of my kills and recording most of them. I was going to do a montage of my last 500 kills but only managed to get about 400 on footage. After talking with the peeps I was told that a video with my last 500 kills might be a bit too much so I just made a summary of my event. Overall apart from what is written in the score cards I have about 200 to 300 surplus kills.
SCORE CARD: After starting to make the score card it was super sloppy. So I started to make them less sloppy. In all I had to make 3 but, the first and last where only used up till half.

Thanks for your participation in Operation Mauler, we saw an increased usage of both the heavy weapons and heavy dropsuits over the last 2 weeks.
We also took your comments about event ideas and had a discussion about them. The good news is that some of them can be done right away. We will post all the info and details about March events early next week once they are finalized, but here are the big changes that you can expect:
- We will double the SP payout in our next kill event from 500SP per kill to 1000SP and in some cases up to 2000SP so that the grind is much reduced.
- We will be hosting an event based on community goals so that all DUST players will need to pitch in, but not have to grind.
We are glad to see that many of you are enjoying the in-game events in recent months and are serious about taking your feedback and comments on improving them.
One thing to keep in mind is that new features will be required to support more sophisticated events and also UI improvements such as a progression tracker and we are really pushing the development team on creating those so that future events will be even more fun to play.
So thanks again for your time and efforts and we'll see you on the battlefield again soon! |

Dear Wang,
Please consider, separately, my request as stated elsewhere on this forum and in-game with CCP Saberwing, to give us access to aggregate battle-data via CREST in order to allow us to host our own Events, and/or to track Event status outside of DUST514 and your website. This would allow e.g. Corps to host internal Events, for tracking such things as training sessions and goal ("get x kills with MagSec first 2 weeks after the release of it"), without your further involvement, and for 3rd Party Sites to utilize your Events for various means ("List current top-10 for Mauler-event").
Note: This shouldn't, naturally, take away from the effort going towards in-game presentation of Events, as a significant number of players will likely not engage external parties during their gameplay.
Regards, G Torq

+1 to CCP Cmdr Wang and the Dev team on OPERATION MAULER.
My current assesment is that the CCP Community Team is one of the most interactive and responsive that I've seen with a gaming community and we appreciate it. I know the Dust community can be a tough crew to deal with but I know many of us recognize that you are working to provide content while other areas of the game come online or are refined.

I have been saying since closed beta that I'll try out the HMG "someday". Well this event was "someday" and I'd like to thank you. I've tested on many frames (everything except the commando actually) in the days since I started playing Dust and running an HMG is the most fun I've had as a pure "slayer" role on the field.
The structure of the event was a great step up, not only in fun but also in showing a direct response to the input of the community and I'd like to thank the events team for both of those aspects. Also, thank you for posting the info and keeping us in the loop, I know it takes extra time and effort to do so but it's a great asset to players having this kind of engagement from the Dev team
Looking forward to the upcoming events and their details.
Cheers, Cross

Like hell does it need the splash back, forge gun is one of the few things that is mildly balanced at the moment... When I started using the forge gun you didn't even have to aim the bloody thing, just shoot near someone and watch 4 of them die, we don't need that back when you can still 1 hit kill people with a well aimed shot. |

Hello CCP,
Is there an estimated time when We will be receiving our SP payouts ? I put a lot of hard work and time into. I Even took score of every single one of my kills with a heavy weapon till I got to 1,500 kills. I really do hope it's soon and that it's done right. I really overdid it just in case some weren't measured, which is my fear since the game sometimes mistakes weapon types. In all honesty I have at least 1,800 HMG/forge kills but I dd not count the first two days of HMG/forge kills. Hence the overdone part.
Please give us a post when you give out the SP because I have yet to receive any.

I think your reward script failed. I logged in today to find a single forge gun waiting for me to assign, about 150k SP, and 7 mil ISK. I killed over 1500 people with an HMG, plus a lot of heavies. I should have maxed out the 750k SP reward.
And it seems I was not alone. A lot of people I've talked to are reporting the same issue.
I used a 'Templar' Sentinal BPO, and a Republic Heavy Machine Gun for all my HMG kills.

I sincerely hope y'all can count downed clones in general better than you can count heavy kills. This was a fun event but by my count I got a little short changed. Now I suppose it's possible I wasn't keeping track correctly but then again we have no way to keep track properly. At some point there was talk of a "progression meter" for events. I realize y'all have a lot on your plate but I think this is a necessity. |

Same here. I got 1x HMG, 99x Forge Guns.
I kept track of 15 Forge Gun kills during the event, and I had over 300 HMG kills. The weapons I received make no sense whatsoever.
CCP, I appreciate the event and the bonuses, but I think your reward script is really screwy.
ED: For frame of reference, if a Dev looks into this, I used a Templar Sentinal suit for almost the entire event. Does that screw things up for the script? Because I'm hearing of other heavies who got their reward just fine.

I have a picture with my kill card that was started 2 days after the even and I know I have an excess of 200 to 300 extra HMG kills sins my suits did not have side arm nor grenades for the specific purpose. I got 80 Forge Guns and 19 HMGs. I'm pretty sure I didn't get that many FG kills and definitely got many 100s more kills with an HMG, enough to hit the 300 cap. I got about 580k SP. I feel like I hit the 750k cap, as my weekly kills for both weeks were over 1,000, and I didn't resort to my sidearm much at all.
Without my individual stats, I have no way of knowing.

I received:
SP = 217,000 FG = 1x 'TorchFlare' Kaalakiota Forge Gun (which is cool cause it's not in the Market. ;-p) HMG = 269x 'Steelmine' Boundless Heavy Machine Guns (sounds about right, but could've sworn I capped) ISK =
One kill for me was equal in ISK value to me losing 10 or 15 suits with the setup I had, so 1 or 2 kills a game put me in profit regarldess. It would seem that I killed much more than that, as I had some days playing ALL DAY (morning to night and beyond), but I'm not so concerned about it, I got 'something' that I didn't have to get for my participation.
BUT... what I AM a bit concerned with is the accuracy of the scripts for future events where I might actually wear REAL suits of value instead of all the militia crap I was running just for the event, lol. The progress tracker really needs to be incorporated before the next event starts to negate all issues, and we can always screenshot the records and have our own log of what we should be getting as well as know how soon we can go back to our normal play style after completing the task, etc. Or maybe even make weekly / daily events that people can participate in.
I would like a few more Forgre Guns though considering there was one game where I got like 9 kills in a row within 2 minutes with it. Either way, I'm still going to continue playing so it's whatever.

I received 24 forge guns and 150 HMGs... I managed to record 330 kills with heavy weapons, though I didn't track specific weapons used. In other words, 330 kills done by some form of HMG or forge gun.
The forge gun number sounds correct, but I started the event using Republic HMGs before switching over to normal ones. I'm guessing those were the kills that didn't get counted. |

Hi mercs, there's been some issues and questions with the Mauler event and here are some answers and actions we are taking to address them.
- With regards to boosters and SP bonus for the Mauler event:
The boosters do not give extra SP on the 750K SP from the event. We apologize if there was confusion on this point and we will make the language clearer next time.
- With regards to not getting the right amount of item rewards:
There's been an issue with the heavy weapons list used for the reward script. The LP store weapons were not included, so if you used a LP store only heavy weapon then it was not counted. We will deploy another script next week to include those weapons so you will receive the reward items.
Again, we apologize for this and want you to know that we are working on fixing this issue. Thank you for your patience. |

I am fairly certain I got significantly less SP for killing heavies then I should have, I estimate around 75k in SP and 4.2 million ISK. I may have not killed enough to get 750k but I killed a ton more heavies then the 300 or so you rewarded me for.

Could you re-run the script to include ALL HMG please... Ie Aurum.- steelmine.... Boundless.....MH-82....Burst and other RANGED HMG Also Mauler and Tigris.
Could the script also include Proto heavy suits AK.0, A/1 , A/I....AND AUR variants.
Because it would be a shame to support the game buying Aur HMG/suits etc and be left out of a script.
I didn't use a single LP HMG or LP Suit. |

I did the event on 2 mercs (same PSN), both should've maxed out kills. Had a stack of 300 HMGs and a stack of 2 HMGs. The way it looks, 1 merc got the full reward, but the other did not.

Will it show up as items to be collected by one of our characters when we log in, or will they just appear in our inventories for whatever character originally accepted the items.

Should be redeemable to a character of your choice when you log in as per normal. We'll make an announcement when we're ready to run the script again.

For reference for CCP to check out 'wierd' combos on a char: I used 3 different heavy suits, and 3 different HMGs, on Quil.
I think I used basic heavy, adv heavy, and 'Eon' militia heavy suits.
I also used std HMG, ADV HMG, and also assault HMG.
I got a tiny pittance of HMG rewards, compared to the number of kills I did. I killed hundreds. However, I only recived around 20 weapons, if I recall.
