This event will run across all contract types. Wear a Basic Heavy or Sentinel dropsuit and score kills with heavy weapons to earn bonus SP and extra weapons to continue your destructive rampage! So, I have some questions. How much point I can get when I kill a vehicle? Is it includes only vehicle destroying point(for example:if I killed a tank, I get 150*2=300SP as bonus.) or includes killing the driver(it adds 50*2=100 points)? And can't I get the SP if I use AV grenades, swarms, or so? The other question is about killing heavy suits. Can I get SP as bonus, when I kill the heavys while I use medium or light suits,or using light weapons? (Excuse me for my poor English, but many japanese mercs are waiting the answer.)
For killing a vehicle in a heavy suit with a Forge Gun you will get double the SP and double the driver kill. We are looking into if counting passenger kill is possible.
Only vehicle kills with the Forge Gun count or HMG (on LAV for example) will receive double SP. However, you can use AV grenades or swarm launcher to weaken the vehicles first.
Yes on the last question you get the kill heavy suit SP reward. However, if you kill a heavy suit with a HMG then you will get credit for both objectives i.e. kill bonus with HMG and kill bonus for the heavy.

The potential total bonus SP from the event is 750K SP per character. The 500K pool is for all infantry kills i.e. both killing heavies or killing as a heavy. But I am open to discussions on this.
We are working towards rewarding players when they accomplish the event goals, but for now the rewards will be given after the event has concluded.

Boosters will not count against the SP bonus, so you can still earn extra SP with the booster. |

Which means Eon BPO doesnt count? :(
If militia doesnt count, then a beginner Heavy player would have to drop a freakin boatload of SP into this to make it ISK effective, since "basic heavy" frames cost a boatload, compared to sentinel.
yeah, I know for the scout event, "militia" ones didnt count... but light frames didnt count either.
In this one, you're letting basic heavy frames count. So how about letting militia count as well? After all, it's really about promoting use of true Heavy Weapons, isnt it?
You can use the militia heavy dropsuits for the event. |

If the dropsuit can fit a heavy weapon then it counts. If the heavy weapon you are using on the heavy suit is a HMG or a Forge Gun then it counts.

You can kind of grind for both but the pool does not stack, so each character can earn a max amount of 750K SP each. But, if you kill a heavy dropsuit while using a heavy dropsuit and heavy weapon you can stack the SP bonus. |

So during testing we found an issue regarding the rewards for killing vehicles, so unfortunately we have had to pull that part of the event. As such, we have decided to roll the extra 250k SP from that portion of the event in to the main SP cap, so now you can earn a total of 750k SP from killing heavies or getting kills with heavy weapons. Will you be updating the original announcements (here and elsewhere) to reflect the final set of rules?
You bet, we will be updating them soon to let the players know. |

So, for this event, is the SP/ISK awarded right away, or will it be given all at once later like the weapons?
We will put the item rewards in the character redeem queue so you get to decide which character gets them. We are looking into doing the same for ISK rewards. Skill point rewards will be put into your character's skill point pool. We will give out all reward types after the event has concluded. |

On the medium suits I mean Any weapon you can fit on the medium suit can be used to kill heavies to get rewarded for this event. That better be a mistake on your part. My scout is working hard killing the masses of heavies. I have a feeling you guys are over-thinking this Probably, but it's CCP so you never can be sure what curve ball they'll throw :)
Yes, you guys are over thinking this
You can kill heavy dropsuits while using any combination of dropsuits and weapons during this event. |

Ryme Intrinseca wrote:I've gone from disliking, to liking, to intensely disliking this event.
At first I thought 'this will be an awful grind'. Then I started using HMG and enjoyed the change of pace. But after a while it became an awful grind after all. I am sick of having to run HMGs every game if I want to taste a reasonable amount of the extra SP. (I don't like tower forging in pubs, and FG is not really going to get you many kills if you're on the ground.)
I know it's bonus SP, in addition to the usual SP payout. But CCP know and every player knows that SP is the main thing, or at least one of the main things, driving the game. People pay actual money for boosters, so of course they're going to go out of their way to get extra SP. The problem is, it is not fun, AT ALL, to run the same weapon (one I wouldn't usually use) every game. And we're only a few days into the event - how bored is everyone who's doing the event going to be in a week and a half?
I play the game most days, but I'm still only getting 500 kills per week, so about 1000 for the duration of the event. That's more than most of the playerbase. But with the 500SP per HMG/FG kill bonus and 750,000SP bonus cap, you need 1,500 kills. So even if I use HMG constantly, I'm not going to hit the cap.
The cap should have been set way lower. I thought 400,000 at first, but even that is too high. I think 200,000 or 300,000 would have been better.
400,000SP is 800 kills, so given I'm getting some kills with grenades, SMGs and OBs even when I carry HMG, even a 400,000SP cap would mean I had to carry HMG every game if I'm going to get all the bonus SP. So that's just as grindy as 750,000SP. But with 200,000 or 300,000, you 'only' need 400 or 600 kills. So a player who plays roughly as much as I do would get a little 'wriggle room', and wouldn't need to run HMG every game.
Please CCP, for future events, set the 'number of kills with specific weapons (HMG/FG in this case) to exhaust bonus SP' much lower. Setting it as high as 750,000, or even 400,000-500,000, just makes the event ubergrindy. At least with the vanilla trebled SP cap you could play how you wanted. I feel like this event turns players off from the game, by forcing them to choose between SP and enjoyment.
Finally, I should say that event stat tracking is also very much needed.
Thanks for the feedback. The grind element is there for this event partly to encourage players to play more. However, I also understand where you're coming from, to some, this could seem to be excessive. The idea is to give players a big SP bonus, so we set it to 750K. The feeling of it being a grind is in the SP per kill amount.
If we set the SP reward to say, 1000 SP per kill for the next event, that would effectively cut down the kills required to reach the cap by half. So, instead of having to make between 1000 to 1500 kills, it would be around 500 to 750 kills. I am open to discussion on this, so let me know your thoughts.
We also agree that progression tracking is sorely needed and are negotiating with the development team to up the priority to make this feature. |

Thanks for your participation in Operation Mauler, we saw an increased usage of both the heavy weapons and heavy dropsuits over the last 2 weeks.
We also took your comments about event ideas and had a discussion about them. The good news is that some of them can be done right away. We will post all the info and details about March events early next week once they are finalized, but here are the big changes that you can expect:
- We will double the SP payout in our next kill event from 500SP per kill to 1000SP and in some cases up to 2000SP so that the grind is much reduced.
- We will be hosting an event based on community goals so that all DUST players will need to pitch in, but not have to grind.
We are glad to see that many of you are enjoying the in-game events in recent months and are serious about taking your feedback and comments on improving them.
One thing to keep in mind is that new features will be required to support more sophisticated events and also UI improvements such as a progression tracker and we are really pushing the development team on creating those so that future events will be even more fun to play.
So thanks again for your time and efforts and we'll see you on the battlefield again soon! |

Hi mercs, there's been some issues and questions with the Mauler event and here are some answers and actions we are taking to address them.
- With regards to boosters and SP bonus for the Mauler event:
The boosters do not give extra SP on the 750K SP from the event. We apologize if there was confusion on this point and we will make the language clearer next time.
- With regards to not getting the right amount of item rewards:
There's been an issue with the heavy weapons list used for the reward script. The LP store weapons were not included, so if you used a LP store only heavy weapon then it was not counted. We will deploy another script next week to include those weapons so you will receive the reward items.
Again, we apologize for this and want you to know that we are working on fixing this issue. Thank you for your patience. |
