I haven't used the laser rifle as much as in Codex, but there was a problem there where 1 nanohive could never be drained by repeatedly recharging ammo unlike other weapons. I could never run out of ammo no matter how long I stayed alive and shoot...

Are you asking for the ability to put defend order on yourself? That's what it sounds like. On maps with too many objectives to keep changing the capture or defend order, I just put it on the squad player who tends to generate most war points.
