I am waiting for a fix aswell because as it is right now, specifically with KBM I cannot do anything. Combine that with lag, framerate drops and horrible rubberbanding in Planetary Conquest and there you have it, you can't even shoot anymore. |

FYI psychologsts don't do what you think they do. Its a lot of statistical math, reading books and writing long winder boring articles that only other psychologists read. Clinical psychologists (my future field) hardly even meet clients, they develop and manage interventions that are delivered by less qualified associates and counsellors.

It's not about it being a priority, but rather that there are different teams working on different issues and some issues are a quicker fix than others. It can be easy to mix that up! Something like weapon balancing may have more progress that could go live, than say overhauling an entire feature.

Again, we dont need an exact date as many realize that its very hard to meet that. Here are the typical questions that most people are going to ask and that a general idea would suffice.
About how long do the devs thing the aiming fix will take? Are they moving towards an implementation or are they still working towards finding the issue? What are the typical steps for a fix? (problem identification, investigation, option proposal, internal working/testing, release etc)
The best thing to understand that SOONGäó or anything that sounds like it has become a sore point for many players. All players hear with that is "Its coming but we can be bothered to tell you when" |

The thing is, is that they will not give players concrete info unless they are 110% sure something has a concrete timetable. I'm sure stuff happens, delays, set backs, limitations, unforseen problems.
I'm not justifying how long or fast it takes them, just that they won't tell you because if there was a delay or set back it looks so much worse to not deliver on a day you said you would, then to just tell you up front it's done when it's done.
I know what most people want, an exact date, with exactly what was said. Reality is that rarely happens with anything.
My point is for everyone who repeatedly demands such concrete info should know that if they had such info they would have said it in the first place. |

Imagine this scenario in EVE. You cannot target your enemy, the hit box for your mouse to select them is so small you literally spend several seconds clicking on them and finally after clicking on the your guns do not shoot. Again after spamming several skills it finally shoots but the game is not detecting a hit. Finally, your titan is blown up by a frigate. GG.

I'd really, really like CCP to fix aiming (although then maybe I'd have less of an excuse for :bad:), and like many I'm quite astonished that after a year of beta and the actual game release it is still broken. Humorous facepalm images are indeed appropriate.
That said...
Fixing aiming requires programmers and involves game code changes which have a long, complicated test & deployment process.
Fixing gun balance issues requires game designers (not programmers) and can generally be done "on the fly" in a suitable internal test environment, so it can be turned around much, much faster.
It is absolutely natural that the aiming fixes will come along after the gun balance fixes.
We can't make the aiming fixes arrive any quicker, but if we whine enough we can probably convince CCP that their best course of action is to delay 1.2 until the aiming fixes are ready (about when 1.3 is planned).

Not originally. It was mostly just Pdiggy22 crying that there was going to be nothing but heavies - which never happened even in that build. And even he wasn't asking the damage on the HMG be nerfed, only the HP of the suit.

If you look at all other console FPS you will see that movement is probably slower and has some inertia (no sharp changes in direction- ther is a bit of acceleration and deceleration to movement) compared to Dust. So to fix aiming in Dust, they would have to fix how all movement works - and this ladies and gentlement is probably a titanic task. Just my opinion here. |

Aside from general aiming issues, I've experienced a few specific things with clear shots getting blocked by invisible geometry. This happened twice last night. First, I was sniping and had a clear view of the null cannon console. A very low armor redberry began to hack it, but was crouching behind part of the structure so I could only see his bent knee/leg sticking out. I took very steady aim (waited for zero sway) and fired, but structure geometry blocked the clear shot. A second time I was crouching next to a ledge and a hostile was standing on top of the ledge in front of me. I had a clear shot at him, but the shots were blocked by the top of the ledge as if it had an invisible overhang.
Also the PS3 controller is horrible for shooting. |

So they change the rate at which the camera view matrix is updated based on the analog input ....
Then they tweak and tune the numbers to adjust the view update based on impulse strength and length to create acceleration for longer intervals of impulse.
Don't try and equate movement with updating a view. 2 separate things.
Predictive aiming OTOH is quite the feat and I do not envy them. But then again ..... GGPO did game prediction over networks and has become the industry standard in fighting games, and it was developed by a couple dudes, and is open source. |

To be honest with you when I first started playing uprising with a controller I did think the aiming was off somewhat. Now I play with a mouse n keyboard and I have no issues. Maybe ive just got used to this funky system haha.
Performance and lag improvements are always very welcome! Good to hear you guys are doing something with the aiming however. |

I'm kb/m and I can't say i've noticed a big issue with aiming. Aim Assist on/off its the same. The problem isn't with aiming, it's more with the mouse inputs when trying to select items/issue squad orders in the wheel menu. It's like pulling teeth trying to select "Defend" or select your equipment slot.
I'm guessing they're just saying "aiming" because it's too hard for them to be specific, or take the time to be specific (most of them are too intelligent for their own good, IQ gets so high you start to get stupid again).
Mouse sensitivity for me is usually on 80%, and i can jump to the 100% sensitivity cap by hitting my dpi key. Either way, it's just too hard to select diagonal slots in the wheel menus. This is problematic when it comes to switching quickly to Remote Explosives (whose use is very time-sensitive).
Otherwise, my guess is people want aiming to simply be SO sensitive that they can spin around and do 360s in a 1/8 of a second... I hate to break it to them, but I don't think CCP wants that. |

Nah, go play Halo, its much faster and aims well.
I suspect the reason they are having so much trouble is 3 fold:
1: Server side hit detection instead of client side.
Most FPS games have client side hit detection and then some rules to solve a dispute between clients. DUST doesnt do this. Im not sure of ANY FPS which does client side, maybe planetside 2? This is way harder and is why we see hit detection issues which make the aim issue feel worse.
2. Balancing KB/M and DS3
Some KB/M users will claim this isnt an issue, and that KB/M offers no advantage. This is wrong. Any good FPS player will tell you KB/M is dominant over joysticks. DUST has to try and balance both which is a very difficult task. As difficult as it is to name an FPS that has server side hit detection its almost harder to name one that has integrated kb/m and joystick successfully. Only one has tried, Shadowrun, as far as I know. I dont think it went well.
3. Balancing suits
DUST offers unique gameplay in the fact that turning radius and aim speed is a factor when it comes to suit balance. Pistols turn way faster than HMG, I think heavier suits turn slower than light. This makes it much harder for them to find a good sweet spot for everyone and keep things balanced. It also limits the ability for players to fully customize and find their own perfect controlls, because the suits need to reflect their balance.
Really, its easy to give the devs grief about the aim and make comments implying any other FPS game has already done itso it should be easy. But the reality is, NO game has tried to do aiming like DUST. Their job is a lot harder than Halo or COD of BF3 |

No. It's an engine thing too.
There are a ton of problems with it, acceleration values, virtual analog concept which does not work at all in practice for KB/M, severe input delay which makes it nearly impossible to track targets, etc. This is all before you even start getting to issues like hit detection and unsteady frame rate due to memory leaks and terrible optimization.
Really, CCP said they would give us a ship called Dust 514. Only instead of a ship, we got a plank. And that plank was split in half. And both halves have holes in it. And those holes have termites.
Just about every shred of hope for Dust becoming what it is supposed to be is held back by problems, compounded by more problems, compounded by more problems. There is not a single functional aspect of this game right now. I have been following CCP a long time and while they are slow, I hold them in great favor for what they have done over the years with Eve. But I don't believe that even they are capable of fixing this game. It's simply too broken. |

I'm curious how much lag, system chug, hit detection, and controller input, all play into that, I know that the neg accel on KB/M is a significant issue and that the DS3 has a very clunky feel to it compared to other games, but its hard to say how much of the rest of the aiming isssues are the other things. I'm curious to see what CCP finds. Wouldn't be supprised if all add just a small amount to the problem and compound in a significant way. |

Secondly, I just asked my wing man Ace-Killer if he had ever you either... what a surprise. I agree, I am not the best jet pilot, but I was good enough to be a starter pilot on vCx, ID, and 6FU.
You were #1 for over a year in a scout heli, yet never in TaO or QxD. I'm sure you're really good at what you do, but how does using a heli translate into Gungame. Better yet how does Jet skill translate into Gungame.

On the topic at hand, I would like to see a dev blog / tech paper written by CCP that simply goes in depth to tell us what they think the aim issues are and all the processes related. No need to include dates, just an official topic paper that will be a reference for the community. Some people have taken the time to explain the more technical issues here, but again, it would be nice to see CCP do it themselves. Also, this should be a pretty easy home run with the community in terms of answering the endless crys for transparency and communication. All they have to do is tell us what they know is wrong (i'm 99% sure an intern has already written this as an internal memo / project proposal that would need minimal redacting to be published). This would be much more substanital than "we're workign on aiming, and its hard." Tell us exactly why its hard and what the issues are. Knowing the issues will also help the community adapt playstyle in the interm, so win-win.
It could be things like "hit box detection suffers because its server side, which works normally but once the memory leak begins to accrue, even before screen lag, client-server communications suffers. More, the balancing between DS3 and KB/M is handeled client side so this is compounded by..." or what ever the issue actually is. Lay it all out, in all the detail you can. No need to given even the faintest guess as to how long it will take. And, if it really is super hard, seeing the lenghty list of issues (and preferably maybe some "and this is why its client side" stuff) the community at large will be able to chill a little. Tell us why its hard and we'll believe its hard. |

It was fine last build until Uprising ****** it up. Although hit detection was a little problem.....ads & hip fire was fine.
You guys keep telling people to deal with a broken mechanic. We dont have to and if we decide not to tolerate it anymore, dust's playerbase will be nothing. |

However, given the limitations of the PS3, they had to port over to the Unreal engine, resulting in various glitches and bugs etc.
Hence why I'm not particularly fussed, since I also recall someone saying that since the PS4 has an architecture closer to a PC, they would be able to use the Carbon engine. What this means for cross platform (between PS3 and PS4) play, I have no idea.

If you had read what I had quoted from MintChip you should have been able to infer that it is due to aiming mechanics not being fixed in the foreseeable future. There are other missing components of the Dust experience, but the broken aiming and hit detection mechanics make playing an exercise in frustration.

Why would I delete my character in a game with passive SP accrual when I hope that the issues I have with the game mechanics can, and will, be fixed in the future. Not deleting character as I expect the game to be fixed in the future, and passive SP accrual means if/when that occurs I would be better off than restarting from scratch.

1.3 is fixing 1.1
1.4 will fix 1.2
1.5 will fix 1.3

CCP Wolfman is working hard as he can to get it to you guys early and complete as possible and knows how important the entire thing is to you all. I would say which patch it would be in but that is not up to me and the sorts. Depending how much gets done and depending if nothing is game breaking bugs in it should be soonest patch possible.
1.3 is the second part of the dry run of a higher paced patching process moving to a monthly content delivery so you guys shouldn't languish that long if something were to be broken., had this been the old CCP thinking at work this would have been 1.2 + 1.3 get launched end of july instead of 1.2 at the start and 1.3 at the end. |

As for complete, well that remains to be seen.
Aside from that, tell the guys at CCP to take their time and do it right. I personally would rather wait an extra four weeks or so for something that won't need to be repaired for the next couple of months afterwards.
After reading Hans' blog regarding the CPM meetings I am quite pessimistic, but maybe, if CCP actually does some QA this time, we can get some productive output.
You know, I find it strange that when I got here, I was so impatient for these things, now I have completely given up on this game being ready before GTA 5, or even the PS4 launch. Which is a darn shame. I guess I am now a bitter vet. Completely jaded and not even mad about it anymore. |

Well I can't guarantee getting it right, I mean I am the worst type of player to ask about DS controllers because I play so many game types that small adjustments like acceleration don't bother me and since the performance improvement of 1.2 I haven't had to fight the controller anymore unless its a dropship. However the CPM has been doing a good job helping relay the current complaints of both mouse and DS3 controllers to CCP Wolfman.
However the system is being worked in such a way that if it isn't right, you guys wouldn't have to wait an entire quarter for a fix and it may be something they could possibly hotfix to adjust. We're also trying to hammer CCP Wolfman for more options while further understanding how the DS3, mouse input works with the software, not as simple as it first appeared. |

lol EVERYTHING is a turn off for anyone that isn't already enamored with what the game "could be". - the aiming - the graphics - the difficulty vs. experienced players - the grind - the lack of true customization ("i can't change my scope?") - broken niche roles/weapons

Which is why admittedly I am a bad player to go to over this subject as well because I adapt to the controllers and things like missing acceleration don't bother me as much as fighting the controls. |
