Anyone else like really dry anime? Like the .Hack//Sign or Wolfsrain or a lot of GitS where there is sometimes combat/action/whatnot but the majority of the show is dialogue.
Certainly there are a lot of those, but the only ones I can think of right now fall into the "School life" category, and I don't really want that.
Sadly, I've probably seen it if it was released in 1988-2007, 2012-2014, but I'd appreciate any suggestions on series that meet are like what I'd trying to describe

I think I know where you're coming from with this. When I think of a dry show I think of something inherently more introspective and a piece that knows when and where not to play music and rely more on the actual dialogue or things going on on screen to convey any particular mood.
Here's some stuff that comes to mind for me :
Serial Experiments Lain - Has school stuff but is never really focus of the show, more as a tool to define the age of the main character. It's really hard to define this one I think ... but luckily Funimation has episode 1 on youtube just waiting to watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9kYAEyVjEY
Witch Hunter Robin - I think at a superficial level it's distinctly GitS-esque since we follow a distinct organization within the government tasked with fulfilling certain objectives.
Flower of Evil - It's entirely school life but please don't let that put you off. This is the school life show made by people who hate school life shows. It takes that typical idealization of the highschool environment and rips up the floorboards revealing the filthy underside beneath. It's that ugly untold tale of a distinctly human narrative and one you'd be distinctly sorry for missing out on.
Mushi-shi - It's hard really to define this one as "dry" given the inherently lush and vibrant world that it presents itself with. Much of the narrative here takes place in densely packed forests filled with spirit creatures of any given type. But as a show that knows when and where to let the action speak for itself and for a healthy dose of intraspection on the side, it fits the criteria of a "dry" show pretty well.

Just started watching "Your Lie In April" as someone suggested it on here.
I have to say, it's the first show in a LONG time to have me constantly smiling. Also, I seriously need to look up the soundtrack for this thing. The music is just so beautiful, and I'm not really a big fan of this kind of stuff either.
All of the other shows have already been talked about for this season.
I guess I could bring up Akame ga Kill
Man I have such a hard time starting slice of life shows if they don't bring a non-traditional art style to the table to start with. You Lie in April seems to be a getting a fair amount of praise around my circles as well, gonna have to stick the thing on the backlog with Barakamon to check out before year's end. Zzz.
I didn't bother with the Akame ga Kill anime after reading a bit of the manga. Just a bit too silly all around for my taste. Dropped it when Esdeath started going for the MCs ****.

Lain was good. Watched it on VHS the first time. Second time was on DVD only, because it was made for interlace TVs it looked really ****** up on my PC.
Witch Hunter Robin holds a special place in my heart, I twas on of the first 2 fansubs I ever watched. It was a major influence on sending me my way into my "omg, anime is awesome. it sucks that it's always bowdlerized, but it's awesome I can have it in original format!"
Akuma no hana is something that caught my interest but I never checked out. . . honestly, I have no clue what half of you are talking about because you use translated names because when I put it back to native titles they aren't the same *cough* looking at you when supernatural battles become common place *cough*

Up until that part in the show there had been relatively no "fanservice" at all.
I brought a girl over one night and saw that a new episode of AgK was available so I put that on for us to watch. She starts laughing as the episode goes from serious to boobs in a matter of seconds.
I then play two more shows that also turn into boobs and later that night she makes a post on facebook about how I watch too much hentai XD
I have the worst luck when it comes to timing I guess lol.

My ex used to watch hentai... ...only because she thought it was super funny.
I didn't mind at all until she started playing it in the middle of Denny's at full volume. yeah...I had to get used to things like that. She was 3 years older than me and it was like dating a 13 year old boy in a sexy female body.

I'm a Chicago native. We have anime-central (ACEN) each year and on sunday they have a hentai exhibition. One of my favorites was the year they played "Gold Throbber."
I mean, the title alone is hilarious. My friends and I were laughing so hard at it.
Hentai is hilarious. ****, in general, is hilarious. Watching either of those in a group and poking fun at it is always good fun.

So I watched a show considered taboo here in the States - Kokomo No Jikan.
If you don't know about this show - it reigns as king of the loli perverts. And it deserves that title well, there are so many loli and underaged sex jokes that you start to wonder if the show is even taking itself seriously. Though the theme is taboo'd - I couldn't help but laugh. Some of these lines are just too damn funny coming from an underaged mouth - and what adds to it is that you understand from episode 1 that these kids have a very adult understanding of things. They aren't just trying to be cute - they're articulating these things to come off the way it does, often using it to manipulate a situation.
But take a step back from loli/underaged theme and examine the plot - it starts off STRANGE. By strange, I mean I can't tell if it starts off really, really strong, or it starts off on a horrible note. I honestly can't tell.
The first few moments set the loli ecchi pace quickly, walking into a classroom filled with young naked girls screaming being the way the MC is introduced to us. He's the typical MC - capable but aloof, smart but overthinking, just a generic MC, really.
But then there's the main female lead - Kokonoe. She's anything but generic. I won't say much about her as revealing who she is is a part of the plot, but I will say episode 6 made me both rage and cry. She is an extrodinary character - akin to Holo from Spice and Wolf.
The plot is surpringly deep at times, and with Kokonoe appearing majority of the screen time, much like Holo from Spice and Wolf, the show never misses a beat for entertainment and intrigue.
A pleasant surprise, one i wouldn't recommend to anyone but other anime fans. No one but someone willing to look past the ecchi will be able to see the plot for what it is.
And if you say you didn't cry to episode 6 season 1, you are a LIAR. :3

Latest legend of korra episode - spoiler
Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing to add to the plot. Major waste of time. The producers thought it would be waste to waste their dwindling financial funding to fight back at the bad press by having flash backs at all the fight scenes with a varrick story telling twists added in and one of the last words said in the episode was " relax, it is just a mover show. Don't take it so seriously". Yea I am not going to take it seriously anymore. This is why the show is not aired on tv, this is why their finances are dwindling and why they are losing support. If you can't take the pressure of criticism then quit because everyone else is quitting you guys. You guys left soooo sooo many plotholes and loose ends the last season and every season. It is appalling at how bad these new producers are bad at telling a story and now we have 1 less episode to give us less story and more plotholes.
Fillers are for successful franchises so that writers can stay ahead of the anime. Korra has very very limited funding and limited episodes and the producers wasted it being insecure and butthurt. I get their point but it is a point that doesnt need to be said. Nor is it a point worth wasting more $$$ on. If I was in charge, I would have fired and canceled the show by now.

Er ... it's BECAUSE they had "very very limited funding" that they were forced to do a flashback episode in the first place. Here's a quote from one of the creators of the series himself :
"We got the news from the higher-ups that our Book 4 budget was getting slashed, almost to the tune of an entire episodeGÇÖs budget. We had two options: 1) let go a significant number of crew members several weeks early, or 2) make a clips episode. We never considered the first option. We werenGÇÖt going to do that to our crew, and even if we were callous enough to do so, we never would have been able to finish the season without them."

Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing to add to the plot. Major waste of time. The producers thought it would be a good idea to waste their dwindling financial funding to fight back at the bad press by having flash backs at all the fight scenes with a varrick story telling twists added in and one of the last words said in the episode was " relax, it is just a mover show.
Here's a quote from one of the creators of the series himself : "We got the news from the higher-ups that our Book 4 budget was getting slashed, almost to the tune of an entire episodeGÇÖs budget. We had two options: 1) let go a significant number of crew members several weeks early, or 2) make a clips episode. We never considered the first option. We werenGÇÖt going to do that to our crew, and even if we were callous enough to do so, we never would have been able to finish the season without them." - Bryan Konietzko So lay that blame on Nick. Of course he would try to pass on the blame to someone else. His ego is too big to admit he made a bad show.

Yeah, let's make baseless assumptions on the guy's character because he had the audacity to make a filler episode. Honestly who does he think he is being a co-creator for the entire Avatar universe? I bet he murders babies in his spare time too.
While we're still on the subject I should point out that the actual creators of Avatar the Last Airbender, Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino, were kept on to create Legend of Korra so I'm not sure what you meant in the original post about the "new producers". They're the same guys.

Anyway, time to talk anime.
Parasyte - And now the real story begins! I loved seeing the transformation in the MC from the nerdy glasses dude to the manly man whose seen some **** that we see today. The difference between then and now is pretty stark. We're quickly getting to the point where the anime is about to surpass the point where I stopped reading in the manga so i'm looking forward to seeing how things wrap themselves up in the next ... like 12 weeks.
Mushishi S2 14 :
This is probably one of the more beautiful stories told in the Mushi universe and actually one of the few times where I think the Mushi themselves acted as an asset to the world around them rather than ******* **** up in fun and creative ways. Ginko had very little to do with the goings on of this one but the episode absolutely delivered despite that.

What are you guys thinking of in terms of Anime of the Year at this point? My list would probably be something like
1. Ping Pong 2. Mushishi 3. Nozaki-kun 4~10 (Pending due to a lot of them being on going but I'm thinking, in no particular order, Shingeki no Bahamut, Barakamon, Parasyte, Shirobako, and Space Dandy are all gonna show up somewhere in there)

Just so you guys know, each Legend of Korra episode costs something of the tune of 1 million dollars to animate. Hence having a recap episode here and there is fine by me.
