I mean I guess I can see there being a divide with the magical and "scientific" areas of the world but with how advanced seemingly society as a whole is I have a hard time believing these guys wouldn't be able to access any outside information about the way memory works. Especially since Index's "friends" chased her into a scientific hub of society. A part of me was really willing to accept the contrivance of "too much memory = death" as a reason for needing to wipe it even if that's not the way memory works too. But when the show itself is basically like "No, what? That's ******* stupid" it just totally discredits the competence of Index's frienemies. And seriously what the hell was with that justification for what they were doing, clearly they've been able to catch and restrain Index multiple times in the past so why exactly couldn't they show up a day after a wipe and just explain everything to her afterwards?
But from what I've heard the opening arc is probably the series' worst and there's a notable dip in quality compared to the show's other arcs.

But from what I've heard the opening arc is probably the series' worst and there's a notable dip in quality compared to the show's other arcs. They go to lengths to explain this - but even then, I can't relate to it as you couldn't. Supposibly, when her memory wipes she completely forgets them, and when they tried keeping dairies for her and such, it wouldn't work, as it would have to chronicle a year worth of missing memories for her. It's too much for her to take in, and she rejects trying.
But her friends being the overly caring people they are, stick with it. The Church deceives them saying they cast a special spell on her that works a special way, and put them under orders to safe guard there precious friend.
It's more of a sick joke against the friends that the british government sets up. I never thought low of the friends, more then every single organization that seems to exist in this show is inherently evil, even ones filled with all the good guys, lol. |

also let the record show that SOA has been forgiven(for now) only complaint being that the characters have plot armor so thick it could withstand a nuclear blast.
I think Psycho Pass season 2 this month? I liked season one a lot, it was like an animated Philip K. **** novel(do androids dream of electric sheep specifically) and I look forward another dive into its twisted and depraved world.
now it's time to slither back into the abyss, love you all and I'm glad to see this thread is still kicking :)

Oh man, Bakuman. I loved that show but was frustrated that he never achieved his goal... until I found out that it was only the end of the first season and more was on the way.
Haven't picked up the second season, will probably do so, but I have a feeling I'll read the manga and splurge on that instead. I need a manga with an ending and a good one at that.

Oh no, I didn't mean you spoiled anything; I used spoiler tags as such because there are some people who browse through this thread, read a spoiler with no spoiler tag, and then get all angry about it. Your reference is more of a generalization rather than a specific event and arguably doesn't need a spoiler tag.
I was asking if your reference was pointed toward that scene in Episode 14.
Which I guess it wasn't so... yeah...

Bakuman wraps up nicely, great show, dramatic and moving from beginning to end. Kinda drags on certain issues and topics a bit more then I'd like, but it's up there with Toradora.
And I'll continue SAO someday, after Blade Dancer, HaNaYaMaTa, Akame ga Kill, and the several other shows that don't **** me off. |

Log Horizon S2 - 1
Definitely enjoyed this episode. The meat of the episode definitely scratched that Log Horizon itch for me and as a person who's only been exposed to the anime I came away satisfied with the experience. Glad to see that the tone of the series hasn't changed all that much due to the change in studios though other impressions of the show that I've read in other places seem to cite some significant shifts in the way this first episode was handled in the source material. They seem to be hurrying or skipping some elements that were present there. We'll see how this effects things when all is said and done.
Fate/Stay Night (2014) 00 -
I sincerely enjoyed this. It goes without saying that the Ufotable seal of quality is written all over this series and everything from the quality of the effects, art, and animation style all have their signature look and feel. It legitimately felt like I was watching something with the production values of a movie here. I can't even imagine the amount of money that must be funding this project to get to the quality they're operating at. But as this new adaptation for the series is based on the second route of the VN I'm glad that they went ahead and decided to adapt the prologue arc while they were at it, if for no other reason than to give us a glimpse at the series this could have been had Rin been the main character instead.
As an introductory episode though I think I can safely say that it started out stronger than Fate/Zero did in comparison. There was distinctly more things actually "happening" during its course and I think the lack of Urobuchi's heavy handed style of exposition was obvious in the more focused progression of events. Though given that Stay Night doesn't attempt to really focus in on as many different perspectives I guess that's a pretty obvious result.
All and all, as a fan of the VN, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this one progresses. Next week apparently is another hour long episode.

More impressions? More impressions.
Shingeki no Bahamut - 01 It's like Pirates of the Caribbean meets the 3 Muskateers accompanied with a distinctly spanish soundtrack in a fantasy setting. That's probably the best way I can generally describe the "atmosphere" of the first episode of the show and its definitely been my most welcome surprise hit of the season. They also went totally ham on the animation budget for the first ep, you guys don't want to miss this. Did I mention the main protagonist has an afro?
Gundam Reconguista in G - 01 I have no idea what to make of the first episode of this series. As I'm probably gonna have to rewatch it to really get a handle on anything that actually "happened" here I can only say that a combination of the dialogue ("THE EARTH IS NOT A SQUARE!") and the seemingly completely random events accompanied with techno jargon left me completely confused. Is this the power of Tomino?
And I've got the first episodes of Sora no Method, Grisaia no Kajitsu, Garo the Animation, Hitsugi no Chaika, and Parasyte to get through as well ... haha.

Foundation Seldon - you always have great posts in here <3
I can't wait to check these shows out myself! There's a number of beautiful, nay, gorgeous shows this season. Anime quality has been skyrocketing each year, and it's become half the fun of each new season to see which shows blow you rmind with visuals.
And to think - 3 years ago japan was in a 'crisis of story telling' Apperently, they were in a draught of story telling, but you wouldn't be able to tell from the fantastic plots this years batch of shows have had.
They even take uninteresting concepts and make them beautiful to behold. No Game No Life isn't exactly new or refreshing, but DAMN. And the Drama and Romances? They've been competeting with Toradora in both quality in plots, animation, and characters.

Stop, you'll make me blush. And yeah this year in particular has had some pretty great stuff on the animation front. Though Space Dandy was hit and miss with regards to actual content I have to commend it for allowing the animators to go crazy and make some truly outstanding scenes.
http://sakuga.yshi.org/post/show/7425/animated-effects-liquid-shinya_ohira-space_dandy
But yeah, I dunno. This year didn't really resonate with me until Mushishi and Ping Pong came out in the Spring. Both Winter and Summer were pretty dry for me in terms of quality release, with there only being 1 or 2 shows in each season that caught my eye. Summer actually hit me with some pretty notable disappointments. That said Fall seems to be the season to redeem the entire year and it feels like there are as many potential hitters packed into this one season as the rest of the year combined.
While we're here though ...
Chaika S2 01 - A pretty non-offensive episode, frankly a bit of a lukewarm return of the series given the way season one ended. I'll stick to it but I'm hoping the thing starts ramping up sooner rather than later. Pro tip, don't end your episode on a cliffhanger if you've removed all tension from the situation prior to doing so.
Parasyte 01 - Migi is actually kind of adorable! Having already read part of the manga I wasn't surprised by the progression of events here but I thought it was interesting that they decided to mix up the way they showed various parts of the parasite's "origin" with respect to invading our MC. Not a hugely significant change of course. I suppose the bigger one with respect to changes made from the manga would be the design for the MC, but given the OP I'm assuming they'll be going to something resembling the original when the two become more accustomed to each other, it's not a very subtle way I suppose of representing the shift that we'll be seeing later on but I guess it'll get the point across much faster. Shoutouts to modernization too, the original manga came out in the 90s so seeing things like cellphones and tablets within this world shows some pretty interesting updating.
And thank god they found someone who knows how to professionally censor a material without haphazardly blacking out the entire screen during said moments (I'm looking at you Tokyo Ghoul, Jojo, and Terraformars). This is definitely a body horror type show so the censors were worrying me going into it but I'm glad to report that I honestly never noticed them while watching the series itself. It's either not there or very subtle.
All and all, it's a strong opening to a show that I was very much looking forward to seeing.
