Another surprise treat!
I've never seen a show depict such a frank picture of the anime industry as it exists in its current state. What starts out as a group of girls aspiring to get into the industry while being involved in their school's animation club quickly shifts into the harsh reality of actual anime development with all the deadlines, setbacks, and tension among the team that can seriously effect the overall quality of a finished episode. I think most people are surprised to hear that most of the future episodes of an anime that you see come out week to week are still in development as the show begins to air. If you've ever wanted insight on the anime industry from the perspective of the people who produce them then this show seems to be a pretty good introduction to that process.
It's going to be interesting to see how far they delve into the real problems the industry faces as animators in Japan are notoriously overworked and underpayed. And despite that 2D animation remains very expensive and very time consuming. I think people would be surprised to see the actual cost episode to episode of the shows they enjoy.
The large cast of characters is definitely a bit overwhelming but it served a narrative purpose. It's easy I think to deconstruct a major work into "Director", "Writer", and maybe notable actors and actresses but they've successfully driven that these productions are a team effort involving dozens of people.
Wasn't expecting much going in but they've definitely hooked me, looking forward to more.

Why no, I don't believe my watch list is large enough yet.
Garo the Animation 1-2 :
God, there are so many hits this season and I feel like I've just come away watching yet another really satisfying one. Typically I'm turned off by CG (hated it in Gatchaman Crowds, etc) but lately it feels like studios have been able to find a way to incorporate CG into their shows without losing the "weightiness" comes with their inclusion. There's a certain deliberateness in their movement that feels believable within the setting and I think this is one of the few times in which I think a studio's really nailed it. Given that Mappa's also handling Bahamut it's clear they've got some talented CG dudes at their disposal.
Design wise I can't say I was too sold by the look of the Horror in episode 2. Episode 1s dude gave a very "organic" monster feel, immediately giving me flashbacks of some of the dudes in Berserk. But episode 2?
lol
Monster design aside it's definitely a fun show. If you're looking for a sort of dark fantasy setting with demons and goddamn Power Rangers then this might be the show for you.
Fate/Stay Night 01 :
I'm definitely being hit with the expected tonal shift between Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night. There's a certain "epicness" to the battle presented in Zero that's just lost in Stay Night due to the focus of highschool aged protagonists fighting for what amounts to be really petty reasons. You don't get the sense that the Holy Grail War has started and that there are multiple conflicting factions of people going at it to achieve their own dreams. Instead what you're presented with in this episode is a very light hearted "Visual Novel-esque" intro sequence where you step into the shoes of boring ass Emiya Shirou and while they nail the introspective parts of his character in the later parts of the episode I found it hard to keep interest in the first 10-15 minutes.
Ufotable expectedly destroys every other series this season in terms of the actual fight sequence though, super satisfying. Shoutouts to Illya

On another note, I wish I could take back reading the naruto manga for the entire war arc... Terrible just terrible. should have ended with the pain arc because they just sent the whole series into a pile of horse ****.

I am learning a lot of things at once right now, mobile apps and such, but I am taking time to learn Video Editting too because I want to start Video Reviews for anime.
The first Video Review will be on SAO 2 first half - where I'll discuss the failings and success the show has carried on from season 1, and how different people will resonate with this show in vastly different ways due to how the director and writer approached Kirito's development.
I want some guest stars to give opinions and such as well and maybe add personality and flavor to what's being said. |

There's quite a few options, and I sincerely wish I had a green screen so I could have some real fun and play dress up.
Guest stars will come in at certain points of the review and explain there opinion on the show depending on the topic they were brought into. If you want more of your opinion showed it can arranged depending on how well you articulate it and what exactly it is you want to say and bring up.
The review can also function as more or less a community spotlight on shows while doing a review of it's over-all enjoyment and how it matches up to shows of the same genre. |

Shingeki no Bahamut - 02
I refuse to jinx this show by saying that this is my anime of the season because the Summer disappointed me hugely on that front with me calling Aldnoah and Zankyou just that from the outset. I will say though that they've maintained that high bar they set with the first episode and it's been really refreshing see such a likable cast of characters that ... gasp ... aren't your typical shounen protagonists. Afro is totally a scumbag and I love it, so many protagonists this year have just been self insert blank slates that have nothing in the way of personality that it's great to see someone break so far away from that trend. He's a rogue bounty hunter who looks for any opportunity to make a quick buck and if that includes betraying the people around him then why not?

gbghg wrote: i don't wanna jinx it either, but its definitely the one i'm enjoying most right now. edit: finally got round to finsishing aldnoah, holy **** slaine, i thought you might do something impressive, or stupid, but i didn't expect you to do both and then inaho... well then, lack of emotion or not, horrifically OP or not. i'm back to preferring earth's only competent fighter over slaine.
not gonna lie though, that ending left a bad taste in my mouth, either they stay dead (which while crappy might be interesting) or they get resurrected (which will still be crappy but at least those guys will be alive) for plot reasons.
**** Aldnoah Zero, seriously.
-Aldnoah S1 Spoilers- -Aldnoah S1 Spoilers- -Aldnoah S1 Spoilers-
Slaine is the absolute worst, really. The dude sits in and has tea with the guy who tells him straight up that he plans to murder the princess. Ignoring Saazbaum's really ****** up justification for going to war to begin with (I'm going to get back at those silly martians for starting this pointless war and getting my wife killed by ... instigating another pointless war and fighting for the martians! :D) Slaine KNEW what he would do if given the opportunity and is somehow surprised when the completely predictable situation happens. Not that I believe that the show runners are going to commit to the death of both characters, don't forget that right now the Princess has "died" 3 times during the course of the series, gotta love that cheap brand of drama. What did he honestly expect would happen if he saved Saazbaum during his confrontation with Inaho? Why the hell did Inaho drop his goddamn weapon and decide to straight up fist fight Saaz when he had the upper hand? Aldnoah started out damn fine (episodes 1-3 aka when Butch was writing the series) but after episode 3 (aka when Butch stopped writing for the series) it just totally devolved into disappointing enemy designs and Inaho our one true lord and savior.
0/10 still planning to hatewatch Season 2 to see this trainwreck through to its conclusion.
