But the plot mostly centers around a neutral like character often perceived as evil who plays a support role. He shows everyone reality of player interaction, and why even support role characters can shine like any other favorited class. He's also a known strategist, and uses his ability to bring people together on there own. It's a brilliant show, but as well told as it is it lacks one major thing - Emotion.

Far as animation and voice actors go - SAO wins hands down by leaps and bounds. Though Log Horizons sound track is more enjoyable.

Ultimately, SAO delivers a more emotional show that'll draw you into the story. Where as Log Horizon is less personal and more political. Depending on taste you could easily say one is better then the other, but as a person who enjoys being drawn in, SAO ultimately wins for me.

Props Sota. i really like SAO, it has so many good points, if only the aincrad arc was longer the show would easily be one of my top 10, but it doesn't :/ and that really makes me prefer log horizon for its plot. but like soul said, props for an awesome analysis of both shows.

I'm slowly making my way through Log Horizon now though and I'm finding it enjoyable enough so far. I like the whole lack of permadeath that permeates the whole "trapped in videogame" trope, it relieves a lot of the tension that comes about with having your real self suddenly blow up as a result of your avatar dying but a lot of the urgency that comes about with confronting a conflict loses its edge a bit as well. A friend of mine likened the show to a "Slice of Life MMO Anime" and at this point I can sort of sympathize with that point of view as a lot of the focus so far is in how the players are going about living in this world instead of trying to stop some unspeakable evil. It's clear a lot of attention was put on building up the world and the game's mechanics which I can certainly appreciate as well. On the surface actually it sorta reminds me of a Ragnarok online or something. I'm not feeling like it's an earth-shattering or genre defining show as of yet but it's entertaining enough to keep me interested.
