The gross amount of "rare" officer gear being use so casually in this game is the perfect proof.
Officer is brought into the game with AURUM.
This game has always been pay to win, but now its out of hand.
Eliminate strongboxes, and /or the Warbarge. Both are fueled by AURUM and both are responisible the vast amount of Officer gear in circulation.
Of course, I could just forward this all to Sony, and the US BBB, and respective state departments concerning consumer fraud an misleading...

Pretty sure I played with and against you today 8213, either way the quality of the games was really terrible. Redline, rooftops, and 8vs15 all day. Had one superb domination game though, was even the whole time and only 2-3 people on each side had officer/proto going. Ended super close, each with under 50 clones and not even a full notch on our MCC armor! |

You would probably have better quality games if you didn't queue Domination. You should try queuing for Acquisition. |

I'll explain under the premise that your serious. Officer gear can't be paid for with Aur. You may get lucky by using your daily Aur (which is free by logging in) to pay for your experiential weapons lab to release what it made and it may be officer gear if your lucky. Mon I was ecstatic to be lucky enough to get 3 Logibro after a match. Would have been the 6th that I received as salvage ever. As far as the pay to win idea.....here we go. A merc battles. At end of said battle merc gets compensated in isk (in game currency) to which they use to purchase gear. Many mercs will exchange a lavish amount of isk to mercs willing to give them coveted gear for said isk. Under this understanding there are very wealthy mercs that will exchange this in game currency (earned by playing not paying) in order to gain an edge over the competition. People can do this without paying any actual money thus making your pay to win argument null.

Given how officer stuff can be brought into the game via strongboxes opened with non-AUR daily keys, strongboxes opened via daily-login-AUR-bought keys, and via Warbarge lab-thingamajig (which can be upgraded by freely obtainable components)....
...the term play-to-win seems a little more appropriate.

I will agree that their is an abundance of Officer Gear in the game right now. CPM and several members of the community have addressed this and are working on a solution for this.
As for pay-to-win, I disagree with that.
When I first started playing this game it took me 6 months before I truly started spending money on this game and by that time I had already established my character enough not to get brutally slaughtered constantly; keep in mind this was when the weekly SP cap was something like 190,000 SP and my only means of making ISK were through matches and selling salvaged gear back to the market.
Nowadays it is easier for newberries to earn ISK and SP to level up their merc without having to spend money. |

No. Pay to Win is not more evident than ever. Owning the gear never guaranteed anyone victory anyways. I remember using officer nova knives plenty of times but kept on losing the match because my team sucked. At least that was before my PS3 decided to act all weird on me and won't let me install Dust again in an attempt to clean up the client.
Strongboxes are just chance based and often time I just get consumable AUR gear that are not even officer. Most of the time, I got the officer gear through trading. It's likely those who sold them to me got them from upgrading their warbarge which can be upgraded WITHOUT spending any AUR on it. Sure, it takes forever to upgrade the warbarge subsystems if you just accumulate the WB Components passively, but there is nothing about the warbarge that forces you to spend AUR. I managed to get my warbarge to at least level 5 with the mobile factory upgraded to at least level 4 without spending a single AUR getting there. And I was about 3/4 of the way towards accumulating enough WB Components passively before my PS3 started to show its age.
Sure, strong boxes are fueled by AUR, but you are no longer required to spend AUR to get the keys. You're just encouraged. No one is forcing you to open your wallet. In some events, you get AUR rewards as part of the dialy missions. At the same time, you get at least 1 guaranteed daily mission that strictly rewards you 1 key for just one win and often times you get other daily missions that reward you with keys for more difficult tasks.
If there is anything that is far more prevalent right now than it was before, is the promotion of SKINs. But those don't count as pay to win. Also, you still lose the officer gear if you die in a suit fitted with one. And such loses can be expensive. A pair of Nothi's Nova Knives can run up to 200,000 ISK. Officer suits can be over 1 million ISK at times. That's a lot more expensive to lose than proto gear.

You do know that micro-transactions in games is an actual 'thing', right? This is not something "big bad greedy CCP" invented, and is trying to get away with.
And as for the pay to win argument:
- There is a fix - and easy - daily mission with a key as a reward, so you can open Strongboxes for free. - Warbarge Components are produced by the Mobile Factory, for free. They are also possible daily mission rewards, again, for free. And you can also get some as salvage. Thus, you can use the Experimental Laboratory for free. - You can get AUR for free as a daily login bonus. You can use that on any of the above. - You can buy officer gear for in-game currency, as in, for free.

If by "use AUR to make free ISK" you mean purchase AUR items to sell back to the NPC market with Jara Kumora The Market Agent, than yeah you can make ISK. But it's not free since it cost you AUR to get that. Now that I think about, your statement makes no sense.
You might as well get more ISK trading some of those AUR items to another player, but then you're not really making ISK. You are just transferring ISK that already exists in circulation from one player to another.
Also, officer gear are not like traditional AUR consumables. A pair of 'Nothi's' Nova Knives requires you to have level 5 skills in Nova Knife Operation with level 3 proficiency. Meanwhile, a pair of 'Pyres' Allotek Nova Knives which are prototype do require one less level compared to the officer. But they are not officer items.
And again, you are not guaranteed to win just by buying them and there are already ISK equivalents available. The only difference is the amount of time to get them. I don't see how getting them sooner is considered a win especially when getting them one level before training the normally-required level means you miss out on the potential bonus granted by the one level you have not reached yet.

Sure, you can purchase AUR to speed up the process, but it's not like the warbarge is an AUR-only feature.
Also, I believe CCP is evaluating the drop rate of officer gear from the experimental lab due to it's recent abundance.

lol @ most expensive.
Let me tell you what it's like being a Destiny player in Australia.
Base game: $65 a few months after release Year one expansion pass: $40 The Taken King major expansion: $75
It's cost me $180 to get the game that Destiny should have been in the first place.
I've bought 2 respecs, an APEX, the Minmatar combat pack and the MN-M Legacy skin all for about $80 and I've still got 4 or 5k aurum left.
Something is killing new player retention.

Wouldn't be the first time, wouldn't it, CCP? ;) You do know that micro-transactions in games is an actual 'thing', right? This is not something "big bad greedy CCP" invented, and is trying to get away with. And as for the pay to win argument: - There is a fix - and easy - daily mission with a key as a reward, so you can open Strongboxes for free. Or i just dont play the game which is the best fix for it.

Then why are there efforts by the current CPM class to limit the gross amount of Officer Gear in the game?
Yes, 2-3% of the officer gear in circulation was brought in by free means. Now, the 100,000s of other officer items? Explain that. It coincides with our trading system being AURUM only items as well.
In my country we have a saying, "Don't p!ss down my neck and tell me its raining."
You can't claim officer gear to be rare, and at the same time admit is is being over-used spammed. You can't claim officer gear is free, when the overwhelming majority f it is brought into the game by means of AURUM use.
Stop pointing out single isolated examples to try and cover for the negligence in implementing the Warbarge and Strongbox elements.
Please, I encourage you to actually tally the amount of officer gear that is in the game, and track whether or not is is keeping pace with attrition. This would greatly enhance the balance of the game between players, the pay-to-win concept, and simply skewing of information being provided to us. Thank you

I devote my free time to the game, and I don't particularly feel like taking instruction from an individual who cannot figure out that free to play monetization does not constitute any form of fraud under any legal system I am aware of.

I don't disagree with your premise, however it is misleading to say that 'everyone can do the same as everyone else given enough playtime' when the playtime required for a new player (or even a vet honestly) to get the same amount out of usage from certain in game mechanics as someone who pays money for it is outrageously lopsided. If you are an average player logging in every day, playing an average of around 3-4 hours a day, paying no money- your time required to max the warbarge is measured in months or years. If you are an average player as above but you pay money the time it takes you to max out the warbarge is measured in minutes, only the time it takes to make the transactions and click through leveling it up, and the benifits are substantial.
It's basically saying 'Yes those who pay us money get all kinds of advantages now, but if you dedicate a year plus of your life to play our game while at a disadvantage, you'll be there too!' That might not technically be 'pay to win', but it equates to 'pay to have a definite advantage over everyone who doesn't until they finally grind an ungodly amount of time to catch up to you which won't be any time soon'.

That's like saying I bought paper from the store. The store makes paper. It doesn't come from a tree first, it comes only from the store.
Unless you can tell me that officer gear is not in as much casual use as we all know (your personal BPO excluded of course ), and can back it up with factual evidence, you're still avoiding the point. As a good GM does.
I don't thinking its even possible to has a mobile factory on a person warbarge since its introduction without the use of aurum, as a enough time has not elapsed... So, anything produced from the lab on the WB is aurum produced.
Stongboxes are sitting at a rough 500:1 box to key ratio, so that would account for less than 1% of total officer gear in the game overall.
And EOM drops... I don't know what the percentage for them. But unless it accounts for 50% of officer gear in the game, then you must argue that officer is aurum based, especially at it's current levels of use and attainability.
We can joke all you would like. I'm a funny guy. But, for the FOURTH time... HOW DOES THIS MUCH OFFICER GEAR GET BROUGHT INTO THE GAME?

I have Mobile Factory V and Experimental Lab II.
I produce 600 warbarge components per day and up to 3 officer weapons per day (in exchange for 500-ish warbarge components). Typically I don't claim the Experimental Lab's officer gear but once every other day to ensure I net positive warbarge components.
When the lab produces something I don't use I trade it to a corpmate or friend in exchange for something I will use.
Total AUR spent on warbarge upgrades or sub-systems: 0 Officer gear per day: 2 (on average)

I will bring it directly to rattati's attention for inclusion in the next hotfix.
But first show me on the doll where the officer spam touched you. I disagree with your sophisticated explanation of wording with is understandable/sufficiently clear in its basic form. I'm not saying I agree with any one in this topic.
So, Pay to Win(deviating from the general gibberish in the topic): I will give you example, because I like it, and it can help you picture things more easily. Let's say we have two teams that are planning to fighting each other at the end of the month, and they have 30 days for preparation. Their real skills are identical, it's like clones from StarWars suppose to fight with each other.. they have same life luggage, if they would get pupy for the Christmas they would call it identical 'Cloudy', because it's so,soo nice.
The only difference between two teams is that first team have unlimited amount of cash, and second team have no cash at all(life). Each teams are upgrading Warbarage with limited amount of time - match and daily missions reward, plus AURUM that they both get for daily login. And there is no difference on that except that first team done it on day one with unlimited AURUM, and then focus on buying officer gear from player community for ISK, Boosters, Apex, Skins and everything else I did not mention...
So 30 day pass, and I do not need to tell you how did it end for second team because you are intelligent person, right?
PS It's so nice to see that CPM mark, damm you had to be smartest guy in your village.

I've been pretty fortunate getting extra components out of boxes and from salvage, but I've never used aurum on that thing xD The important thing i would say, is get around a bunch of people who you can trust to trade off what you don't use for what you do use. That helps you streamline your inventory.

Wouldn't be the first time, wouldn't it, CCP? ;) I'm confused. This is a troll right? Take care, wasted thread. So, I can use AURUM to make free ISK... p2w I can use AURUM to access officer 2/3s the way possible... p2w Yup, thanks for validating my argument
Aurum which you can get for free. Let me guess you likely feel that because I purchased my sweet looking Sever Logi that helps me win right? You completely miss the point. If you wish to purchase Aurum you may. If you wish to Gamble by opening boxes with said Aur have at it. But since you get Aur for free. You may find the same items as salvage, be given the items by friends or merely exchange isk for items you don't have. Get off the soapbox. You don't have an argument to stand on. |

LOL
I'll stop feeding trolls. One last time ways to get officer gear without spending real money for AUR:
- There is a fix - and easy - daily mission with a key as a reward, so you can open Strongboxes for free, and get officer gear from them. - Warbarge Components are produced by the Mobile Factory, for free. They are also possible daily mission rewards, again, for free. And you can also get some as salvage. Thus, you can use the Experimental Laboratory for free, and get officer gear. - Officer gear is available as salvage. For free. - You can get AUR for free as a daily login bonus. You can use that on any of the above. No real money spent.

Simple. Every Mercenary has a free Warbarge, that can be upgraded for free to produce experimental and officer gear every day, for free. Every Mercenary can get Officer gear as salvage. Every Mercenary gets a lot of strongboxes and some keys for free from missions and salvage. Every Newsletter subscriber received officer items for free /forgot about this one so far/. Every Mercenary gets AUR for free, every day they log in, this can be converted to Warbarge Components and keys. This is how this much officer gear gets into the game. I have to agree with archduke on this one.
Just because lets say for example I have been playing so long and have lots of officer gear, does not mean that officer gear is not obtainable by everyone else because you can easily get your hands on it with just isk now a days.
With that being said, I still use proto gear 10x more often then officer gear are you calling proto skilled weapons, suits and gear also paid to win? Because that took me a long time to invest sp into those roles. Not exactly pay to win and I use it 10x more then officer even though I have a boat load of officer stuff.
I find it very well balanced. Save up that isk and get yourself some officer stuff, use it during every battle and you will be broke and back to zero officer gear. Pay to win not exactly.

Now, does this statement you say account for the majority of officer gear in the game? Because, I'm arguing that the gross amount of gear being used and that is in the game is AURUM fueled. You are trying to claim that it is fueled mostly by free mechanics.
I want to know who is correct. If the majority of the 100,000s of officer pieces that exist in this game are because of free mechanics, then I'll rest my case.

TL;DR - CCP is aware of how much officer gear the warbarge is putting into the game and is reviewing options.

Everyone have limited amount of ISK in your world, but not everyone can 'buy' them for AURUM or have unlimited amount of AURUM. That why you agree with Him.

I'm not trolling and I'm not joking /much less having fun/, I'm here to help. But I really don't think you care to listen. Do you happen to have any numbers to look at to see what percentage of these weapons produced are from AUR upgraded warbarges as opposed to non-AUR upgraded warbarges (not to mention ALT farming), or is this just you speculating that this is how the market is so flooded? Because new players can't trade without a massive amount of play time to begin with without spending AUR, nor does everyone who plays this game even sign in on a regular basis (I would wager 100M ISK that less than 50% of people who play this game semi regularly or more sign in daily, let alone play a match daily).
In short, do you know it's for the reasons you stated or is that your guess?

I do believe that I specifically stated the following:
Well...I don't have magical spreadsheets like CCP Rattati about how many Officer items were created through the different possible means. All I'm saying is that they're available in-game through other means as well, without spending a single dime, and this is a fact. There's no way around it
Post #53 in this very thread. And to reiterate, this is not an opinion, it's fact. Whether there's more officer gear created by using AUR /to be more specific, AUR outside of the daily bonus free AUR/, that's mostly just guesswork. But just think about it, for every Merc buying AUR for real money and using that to infuse the game with officer gear there's probably a 100 others who just pump officer gear in through the free means.

Again, not trolling. To answer your question, yes, in the scenario you described the team who spent real money on getting stuff sooner is likely to have an advantage, and no, this is still not pay to win.
I mean, seriously, guys, have you never played any other games involving micro-transactions? This is just how it works.
Starter fits can still kill full officer fits. You can still have superior tactics, superior gun-play, better luck or just in general be more enthusiastic about the game and win by sheer willpower. There is no way you can actually buy a win.

Pay to win really doesn't apply to Dust 514. Aur items ONLY get you access early = yay. Doesn't mean its op. Those AUR items have similar/same stats as Isk items and LP. Nothing OP their.
Think about it. From boxes I get that Gallente Aur tank in 5 per box at random. For 1 tank = 350 aur. With the boxes you save lots of aur.
I have 170+ Allotek Assault Rifle and kept getting those from boxes and missions. Nothing OP. The stats for the rifle are the same as the Duvolle.
In the end no need to rant.

Meanwhile Pablo here has had them since day one because he paid a lot of aurum and all lvl 5 sub sections by now. Tell me if not that is one of the biggest time walls you have ever seen on any game? just to get two sub sections at a good position. It even gives mobile games a run for their money. LOL. It might not be pay to win but pay to remove the time wall in order to advance to the next sub section. Because the problem is not how long it takes to level up the sub sections but waiting for the freaking unnecessary time wall that is there in order to make you spend money and catch up to Pablo. Idk ive always had mix feelings of the war barge since day one. I just hate the time wall. |

We'd need to discuss the definition of winning. If winning is defined by netting the most account of resource and ISK, then yes your game is 100% pay-to-win.
If winning is defined by simply winning a battle, not taking into account resource loss or profiting, then no your game is not pay-to-win and simply has 0 need for micro-transactions. So, why would there be micro-transactions in the game?
But, the main point I was trying to make is that Officer Gear in this game has become out of control, and it is direct result of AURUM use over free mechanics.

My point is that officer gear in the game has reached a saturated amount, and it is a direct result of AURUM use.
What we are discussing here is, whether the officer items are mainly from free mechanics or AURUM mechanics. I believe it is AURUM mechanics.

I think a big reason why we see so many Officer Weapons now is because for a long time, before trading opened up, people were salvaging Officer Weapons and just letting them build up in their inventory. Once trading opened up all those Officer Weapons flooded the market.
I remember selling, I believe, over 150 Officer HMGs to someone when trading first opened up.

Damn, Mrs J, go easy on the man, he can't handle the fire you are spittin. |

Look Troll, the reason for the proliferation of Officer weapons among high-tier players is always going to go back around to the ability of trading, and those abilities to have massive amounts of ISK.
For any % of Officer Weapon drop that allows average players to ever see any, there is going to be a sizable market for these items. This is simply a factor of the sheer number of people doing these activities, in the thousands. Assuming a "bare" case of a 1% chance of an officer weapon dropping per DAY per player, then there is easily 20+ officer weapons dropping a day at peak concurrent player count per day. Taking into account everyone who plays this number is likely to be FAR higher.
But it's not just a 1% drop, and there are many sources it could drop so this means that there are hundreds to thousands of Officer weapons being generated each day assuming a reasonable player count and reasonable drop rates from all sources.
Then we factor in trading. There are several people who has a 'main' activity in DUST of just trading items. They buy Officer items from a large net of people who want ISK. This then allows single people to collect hundreds of Officer weapons into one place. All without these players doing anything but having smart business sense. They then sell these items (for profit) to groups who wish to use them in bulk numbers. (normally high end corporations.) How do they afford them? Easy. Having PC districts, some tax rate, and lots of dedicated players. These groups will ALWAYS be able to amass fortunes of ISK no matter what method of generation there is.
Thus we have a situation where a single group of players can have a vast majority of Officer weapons without any of them generating anything via AURUM on their own. Just using their massive coffers. Trading will always end up with allowing those with sufficient determination to gather items together by pulling small quantities from a vast pool.
As a brief but topical example look at the political campaign of Berny Sanders. Politics aside, he is largely drawing his funding from a large pool of small contributors. This is pooling together to be a large sum, but most of the component donations are generally small in quantity. The same is true of officer proliferation. By themselves each player has a very small number of officer weapons, but by selling them via trading to a few smart merchants these small quantities add up into very large stockpiles. These stockpiles are then sold out to the highest buyer and then they use them en masse.

In case it wasn't readily apparent, CCP doesn't share aurum demographics.
But if you go by your average ratio of paying players vs. Free pkayers on a console the ratio runs somewhere less than 10% pay. If i recall correctly it's less than 5% of console players pay for anything in a game.
But we'll be generous and say 1/10.
For every 10 players with experimental lab 4 from aurum you can easily have 90 players with 2-5 in that part of the barge.
Level 2 gives what, six potential officer weapons?
Let's go with four and just to be absurd we'll call level 4 payers 10 per day.
100 officer weapons per day for ten people who bought level 4 versus 360 non-paying at level 2.
Realistically though each level of the barge allows +2 factory claims so if level 4 is 10, then level 2 is 6 claims.
Assuming 100% drop rate for officer?
100 aurum enhanced warbarges. 540 non paying weapons.
It's an interesting average.
And if we assume 5% of players spend then the number inflates further towards the free players.
Now let's give the free players the ability to farm 5 or more passive accounts.
Oops. Gets ugly quick.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

I'm not trolling neither. I'm think that I'm trying to be honest. I wish CCP best. I'm one of those players that stick to CCP for a while now, in time of darknes or not, I'm still here, right? Even if I bright-out something that is wrong, and you not necessarily want to see that publicly, I'm still supportive.
I did play other micro-transactions games. What I do not like about them is that they remind players constantly that he have to paid in other to play it at a decent level. I do not like to be reminded(it's not even about cash, it's about spam).
Subject P2W is not something new in Dust community, I remember it being always there. I was trying to defend Dust on it each time, and proving that this game is clear. Showing players some examples of how it works in other games etc.. I need to say that I was trying to tell people true about it, but it was slightly a PR - I wanted Dust to be a game free of P2W that much, that I was avoiding telling people that in long rage players who pay for game get to point where they want to be faster then those who do not pay for it. They have greater variety of fittings and they can counter those who were not paying for the game more easily. I know that many players had similar opinion, but we all were fighting for new players. And it was in times without trade option, or warbarage. Rare items were appeared randomly back then, if we would not count event rewards. It was 'ok' - It was not funny to play with team that has 2 officer sniper rifle for entire match, but it was more or less balanced, bearable.
Now someone who is rich in real life, can come to play Dust, and buy rare items(directly - from other players, who are willing to sell it, or buy them not directly - from WB Labolatory) thanks to warbarage upgrades. Of cures player who will not buy AUR from CCP will have a chance to have rare gear as well, but he will have it much less than one that paid for it.
As in my example. If we will put two identical teams of players at each other, the one that paid for game, paid more, will win. Because he have more Officer items, SP, he is dealing more damage etc.. We are not discuss player skill here, but game mechanics, with lead to some not fair situations. It is so much easy in EVE - you can always set the trap, and outnumber the guy, in Dust player-count is always even.
Final words to all. I'm not giving solution here, I know about it. It's because I do not have solution. I honestly wish CCP to have at least 10 costumers(or one with 9 accounts) like this, that came to the game and continue to spend a lot of $ on it. I want player-base to stop treating this subject like it not exist, and start discussing about it. If you are person that made very solid opinion about Dust 514 being P2W in past, it's time to think about this again.

Login daily, play matches, the warbarge grows faster.

Thus, you can use the Experimental Laboratory for free. - You can get AUR for free as a daily login bonus. You can use that on any of the above. - You can buy officer gear for in-game currency - from other players through Player Trading - as in, for free. In my country we have a saying, "Don't p!ss down my neck and tell me its raining." You can't claim officer gear to be rare, and at the same time admit is is being over-used spammed. Thank you How is it that an abundance of officer gear means pay to win? How? Could it not be that it is simply handed out in multiple different ways for free daily to the entire player base? With more ways being added like the war barge which I get plenty of gear from without ever paying for it. Such things being added without adjusting calculation for salvage and other ways of obtaining it to compensate for this? Or maybe the barge just giving n out too much. Where does the problem of officer spam directly and undeniably show a link to pay to win. No one I know spends money on keys, they're rather expensive.

See, your point is that you are a ******* dumbass. You keep changing what point you are trying to make.
You see so much officer gear because it is generated by hundreds of players a day PLUS the gear that was produced by CCP and thrown into a pool for boxes. When you have hundreds of players and hundreds of boxes with gear pouring out of them, they then get thrown into the player trading. I'm sure there are AT LEAST 500 of each piece of gear being generated a day and that can certainly been done without any player spending a dime on the game.
As for Pay-To-Win, I call BULLSHIT. Saying Dust is PTW is completely stupid partly stated ^ right there and also because Aurum gear kinda sucks major ass in comparison to actual Proto or Factional gear. Lets be serious 8213, you have nothing better to do with your time than make up crap that you have no substantial proof of.

LOL, every time this claim comes up in this game (in Dust, or all games!) I shake my head and laugh. And I think, the Devs ought to add to that famous slogan of theres, and call this "Fight your own War... Lose your own Battles" With each new wave of "new" players, the same culture shock appears, and I suspect we still have a detachment of players here who are NOT new players, but crusty comudgeons who want to hod onto the insistence that this is Pay-to-Win, and want that concept to come true.
Here's an argument for consideration: I've been tagging along with a budding New-player corp. It's been an irritation and an absolute pleasure, but and I just now realize it's been like a war-correspondent's journey with a fireteam, and I should have been documenting it on a vid, because I was witnessing firsthand what's turning out to be a really fun and gutsy group of players, and maybe a casebook example of a group of Dusters evolving precisely the way the Devs envisioned. I won't name them----because, if they continue on this growth path, sometime next year they'll be snatching districts from the best of you---so, you'll learn their names then.
3 months ago they were just unrelated Newberrys who randomly accepted being my passengers while i practice something I learned from some vet players, called DS-squading. Some liked it and revisited, some said "no way I'm doing THIS anymore!", but they all were no older than a week in Dust, so they all had Militia Gear. They started as Militia visitors getting creamed, but willing to try some left-field advice and some vehicle-based cooperation, Also, clearly, each had his own unique Newberry weakness--but each also showed a remarkable (sometime intuitive!) ability of his own: one had excellent math assessment of vehicle fittings; another was poor in tactical-decisions but ambitious about Leading "something", and kept forming squads to dive stubbornly into the novice-grinder known as FW matches. A third showed champion skill at buddy-covering and even tactical-sacrifice (...you don't want to know how young this player is--kudos to this kid!)
These three stuck with DS-squad awhile, the "leader" kept regularly recruiting Newberrys as young as 5-hours old. They formed their own Chat channel and Squad, and became capable of policing a Skirm and stopping reds from holding onto the Letters (for those who don't know, this usually results in US winning the match). By this time, they were cobbling up advanced suits, gear modifiers, only one rugged but mis-fitted HAV among them (their HAV master builder was out sick from a school injury). NO proto gear, and only one AUR suit lover among them.
Now, 3 months later, the "leader" (who is STILL poor at squad commands and battle decisions), is Corp_CEO, studying how to pull together the right scheduling, Eve-PI data, Ringer-hiring and costs, and OB-Capsuleer negotiations, to fund their first PC. 2 weeks ago, only 3 members from his corp tore up a red team containing mostly Dust Brazil and U-stars (spelling?) experts... THEN stopped another expert corp who was using a bulletproof and lethal map strategy against our blues. Those were two of the toughest Dom matches I've ever hosted and won. But we WON them and not one proto weapon among us yet. These fellas are just too naive and gutsy to be intimidated and scared off by the initial high losses proto-dudes can inflict. They didn't pay to win, and some admit, they don't plan to actually use most of their AUR suits in a match-- it's the shininess of the APEX suit that makes them want to collect em.
No matter how many times more-seasoned players explain it to you,... so many of you DON'T WANT to believe. Dust is not pay-to-win. AUR is just a cool profit-making drug addiction the Devs created in an RPG form. You're either a player who gets hooked on it, or your a player who doesn't get hooked on it. Once you're the AUR or Proto addict, you tell yourself "This enabled me to win", when what really enabled you to win wais an opposing team who's aimless enough to lose against you.
Beyond that, Dust combat is a card game: --"A shield-cutting Militia gun + an armour-cutting Militia gun, beats 2 shield-cutting Militia guns".
--Or "A damage-modified armour-cutting gun, beats a Militia shield-cutting + armour-cutting pair".
--Or "A proto shield-cutting gun beats a dork player".
--Or, "An armour-tanked fattie, beats a prototype shield-cutting gun."
--Or, "3 cohesive squad-members with 2 different Millitia guns, trying for 'assist-kill' points instead of a greedy solo 'Kill+50', will molest and gang-beat a proto stomping player"....
These card combinations go on and on, but you gotta WANT to piece together the combinations, instead of "I wanna beat him on my own---pew, pew, pew!"
You don't have to believe the "Fight your own war" mantra, and you don't have to believe that AUR and protos aren't what causes one player to beat another. It's perfectly okay... Long ago, ordinary people didn't believe they could be killed by an "invisible" litter critter call a germ. ...They kept "Losing their own Battles" too.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Play like those of us with skill!
When you see someone using officer, go get a militia shotgun/sniper on a cloaked scout and a basic RE. Then explain positioning to that player. They will really hate you. Hell, go get a bolt pistol as well. Then you are the ultimate prick running free items who just smited that officer suit. Think about how much isk that just cost the player.
The tears are delicious!
I would offer to taste your tears, but they are salty with isk envy.
BTW - I roll officers in my basic suit with proto weapon all the freaking time. Now leave Archduke alone. I hate when he responds to pricks like you instead of the cool people with great ideas.

Perhaps you are new here.
I had a 50+ page thread talking about how Scouts did not need a buff. Everyone disagreed with me. And, I was a Scout. Scouts got buffed anyway, were obviously unbalanced and OP... I was right
I had another 50+ page thread discussing how Vehicles and AV were actually balanced. And, I was a tanker. Everyone disagreed. Vehicles got buffed and AV nerfed, it was obviously unbalanced... I was right
I was fought against when the sixkin HMG was to OP... right I'm still being fought about sidearm balance... but let's just assume what we know, I'm right
I reviewed DUST 514 and said it was one of the worst constructed games ever made... Considering the game have only received negative views(except 1), has a failed playerbase, and has been put on the chopping block for Legion... yup right as usual
I stated before Uprising was even released that Protostomping and the way the game progresses will drive away new players and the playerbase will only stay small and never gain... So, how many people log on after 3 years?
I stated that allowing modules that make players strafe vertically 20m/s was unbalnced when horizontal strafing was being nerfed at the same time... right as I always am (see a pattern here?)
Now, I stated that AURUM was driving the amount of Officer Gear being spammed in this game through WB Upgrades and Strongbox keys... So far, if the WB really only does make experimental it would appear I'm on my way to being right.
I come off as a d!ck often, and like anyone who is labeled a d!ck; I could care less of your opinion of me. I strive to make the playersbase stronger and help the game. Despite the stubbornness of them. If I see a problem with the game, I want it corrected. Because I'm not a self involved pr!ck who tries to argue in favor of unbalance for my benefit.
My argument never changed this thread. It was Archduke that constantly ignored the points I was making and tried to shadow them with his isolated examples. Word of advice, no game developer is ever your fiend or on your side. It's their job to take your money.

Referring to this statement since it pertains to the thread...
As it has been explained to you time, and time, and time, and time again: warbarges can be upgraded quite easily by just logging in daily to claim your FREE warbarge components and EoM warbarge components. You are making the assumption that somehow all warbarges are being upgraded via AUR. You are making the assumption that officer weapons are all coming from strongboxes.
When in fact it's just hundreds of mercenaries who are upgrading their warbarge for FREE, flooding the market with officer weapons they produced for FREE, without spending a dollar on AUR.
So, in response to this, CCP changed the experimental lab production table to be experimental weapons. Now this tide of officer weapons that were produced for FREE will slow down. I don't think we can make this any more clear: this bullshit you are concocting about officer weapons being purchased is just that... bullshit. You can pump out officer weapons every day without spending any money on AUR.
Also, strongbox keys can also be obtained for FREE just by getting one victory a day. You can also earn them for FREE by completing certain daily missions.

Yes, you can farm WBs for free. I had a person mail m in game just yesterday claiming he's farming 500 WBs himself through multiple accounts and PS3s (Michael Epic). Of course he's lying, because to log into DUST 500 times would take about 6 hours a day, just to log onto the game that many times...
So, wrap your head around the numbers and realize that unless 1,000 players have 500 farmable accounts, it doesn't add up. The time wals that the WB have would make it an impossibility without Aurum use.

okay, so I hit page four before I got a throbbing headache from the stupidity of the argument.
OP, my question to you is: the **** do you care for?
Ever heard the term 'you get what you pay for'?
people spend money on a game they enjoy, so what?
No matter how the gear is brought in the game, it is here, so get over it.
Besides the fact the only way to obtain officer gear is either through luck in the WB, which is free, through luck in the boxes, which you get a free one to open every day, or trading with other players, which is free if you have played for long enough.
What is one ongoing thing in all of those?
FREE.
Everything you can do for money, save very select products like skill resets, skins, or bpo's, can be obtained free.
officer gear can be obtained free.
Free.
FREE.
I say things over and over so they may make it through your skull.
FREE.
You may want this game to succeed, but if you can not WORK with the people whose job it is to make this game succeed (GM, and to a lesser extent the CPM)you are more of a cancer to this game than the countless real problems.
But hey, who am I to complain, I just sit here with my popcorn and quafe, laughing at your stupdity.
please, entertain me more with your needless and moronic complaints.

See, you can't easily tell an active player base size based solely on Max Concurrent Players. It's normally an order of magnitude bigger than that. This is because of several factors:
1) Most "normal" players are not playing nightly. Generally assume that any unique player is playing in 1-2 hour bursts and not nightly but more often 3- 4 nights of dedicated play. 2) It is quite easy to have alts in this game. Even a "regular" account will have 3 slots, not to mention the ludicrous ease of making more free accounts. Each of these characters start with a Warbarge, and with 3 or so months of smart investment and little play time you can have all of these generating Experimental Factory Items. Furthermore Warbarges have been around long enough that this is feasible for even less hardcore players to have done with 2 - 3 characters.
Your assertion that there are only "4000 person playerbase" is the real one that is hard to wrap your head around as that mean half of the ENTIRE PLAYERBASE is logging on for Multiple hours EVERY DAY. Also according to this absurd number, there is a 25% portion of the player base who actually never logs off.
This is a terrible base assumption. The playerbase is FAR larger than 4000 players. Try doing math with a more reasonable number, and you will find that the math isn't quite so impossible after all.

Anecdotal I know, but a friend is logging in once per day to get his free stuff but not playing matches. He just claims his warbarge components, gets his FREE AUR, and occasionally sends other people officer gear he doesn't use. He is an example of someone who doesn't increase the concurrent login numbers much, but does count as a unique login.

You realize that these alts that log in would consume hours, and they nee to have a loyalty rank of 2, right?
Sorry, but besides those who always claim to be God's Gift to DUST and do everything the "honest" way it doesn't add up.
I know what happens in this game, and you can make up scenarios all you'd like...
The overwhelming amount of Officer Gear in this game comes from a direct result of using AURUM.

See: the example I gave you above. He has rank 5 last time I checked. Since Dust is on a last gen console many players are resorting to this. They want to keep their Dust character rolling in SP and FREE AUR, but they don't want to play the game in its current state.
We're not talking about alts. Pay attention.

Just though I'd repeat what Summa Militum said; a large majority of these Officer weapons are not from Strongboxes, or the Warbarge, but from the people who have been collecting them via the EoM salvage for the last 2.5+ years.
I haven't checked the amount I have since sometime earlier this year, but I know for a fact that I have more than 200 Officer weapons. And I do not play anywhere near as much as a lot of people do.
And as many, many people have pointed out, a far larger portion of the community has used the WB Components that they get for free (through EoM salvage, Strongboxes, and the Mobile Factory, which are all doable without spending a dime) to upgrade their Warbarge, than those who use AUR.

You only get weak tears from Officer Spammers. And half the time they don't care anyway. You need to go check out the War Room for the best tears :D

Again, the thing we are arguing is that your numbers are comically off. Assuming a total player base of 4k does not add up in any way shape or form.
The player base is substantially higher and this changes how all of the math works.
Again to reiterate: 4k playerbase is not true. This number is wrong. The actual number is unknown but logical thought indicates it is significantly higher.

We all want you spent money on this game. For real! As many you possibly can . Do even more buy ticked for FanFest, go to Iceland, have some fan, make cool tattoo, buy a mug... Then create EVE account, start skilling your first alt for capitals or buy one. Then buy tones of plexe's to buy Titan, and when you will finely have one look very carefully on prices and accessibility of officer's items. I bolded accessibility because It's very easy to get those in EVE online, they are seeded by NPC market same like in Dust WB - no it's not it's a lie.
Once with my old corporation(50+ppl at the time) we spent some time in 0.0, something like 12 months on hunting for officer spawns on belts. It's very easy to count how much it took: 50 players * 4 hours per day = 200 hours * 365 days = 73,000 hours of hunting for officer spawns(more or less - how could I remember who sped how much time on the task). If you will look at number 73,000 through the prism of Dust 514 game mechanics you will get tons of officer items, so guess how many officer spawn did we encounter?
Two, and half(yes, we were lucky enough to find hostile on belt with officer spawn, He killed it and took it, then we killed him and took it - that why it counts as half).
Sned TheDead wrote: Besides the fact the only way to obtain officer gear is either through luck in the WB(...)

The tears are delicious! The thing is that xxx$ is not really that much of the money go upwards equally to how much you earn money each month. For one person something can be really expensive, and for another one that earns 10x more it's not really that expensive, would you agree?

"Eliminate strongboxes, and /or the Warbarge. Both are fueled by AURUM and both are responisible the vast amount of Officer gear in circulation.
Of course, I could just forward this all to Sony, and the US BBB, and respective state departments concerning consumer fraud an misleading..."
And the response was explaining in detail, how and why DUST 514 is not pay to win, and how both Warbarge and Strongoxes can be used to add officer gear without the use of AUR.
You know, maybe I should lock this. It is non-constructive, and now you're bashing me for trying to clear up some misconceptions. Archduke does not approve.

The thread that just keeps on giving! Archduke you have the patience of a saint!
8213, at least have the integrity to point out when you've made an assumption. You state a lot of things as fact that you couldn't possibly know to be such. Let me fix a few things for you:
- Considering there are three ways for officer gear to enter the game, 2 out of 3 are (I assume) strictly aurum based. - (I assume) 2-3% of the officer gear in circulation was brought in by free means. - (I assume) the overwhelming majority f it is brought into the game by means of AURUM use - By buying it off the players who (I assume) did spend money... - (I assume) its (not) even possible to has a mobile factory on a person warbarge since its introduction without the use of aurum - (I assume) Stongboxes are sitting at a rough 500:1 box to key ratio, so (I assume) that would account for less than 1% of total officer gear in the game overall. - I'm arguing that (I assume) the gross amount of gear being used and that is in the game is AURUM fueled. - But, the main point I was trying to make is that Officer Gear in this game has become out of control, and (I assume) it is direct result of AURUM use over free mechanics. - My point is that officer gear in the game has reached a saturated amount, and (I assume) it is a direct result of AURUM use. - The game should not have (I assume) over a million pieces of "rare" salvage in it with a 4,000 person playerbase... - And, my case states that (I assume) AURUM is driving this. - (I assume) The overwhelming amount of Officer Gear in this game comes from a direct result of using AURUM.
For those playing along at home, remove the (I assume) from each of these statements and they are all something that 8213 has stated as a fact.
EDIT: please locky lock now Mr. Duke
