How about instead of not rendering enemies at a distance, you just render them in a reduced manner (e.g. less textures, fewer polygons) therefore putting less load on the GPU?

I don't use ARs but it seems that almost every time I get killed by an AR it is a tactical, whether the Duvolle or GLU variant. There's definitely a problem whenever a single variant of a weapon is the only variant of that weapon type being used....
