I'd honestly say avoid the shounen manga/anime juggernauts. 500+ episodes surprisingly doesn't actually have much meaningful stuff go on, it's popcorn junkfood.

It's not like I'm starting from the beginning either: I picked up from where I left off, which was around episode 280.
There is no shame in enjoying some of the more popular titles either.
Once I'm sufficiently hooked on anime again, I'd like to finish off watching Mirai Nikki, which I stopped watching about 2 episodes from the final episode.
Haganai was good too, and I heard that a new season came out whilst I was on my hiatus...
I'm also open any suggestions you guys have.

I need a little help reviewing a show, I can't make anything of it.
It's called Wish Upon the Pleiades.
it's about 5 magical girls with unimpressive powers collecting 'engines' for no known reason against an enemy they know nothing about who doesn't seem all that evil.
for my impression so far, i can't decide wether i like it or not, but I'm certainly interested enough to keep going through each episode. Which is why i'd like a second opinion. |

It gets a lot better later in the show, then stumbles a bit as you can tell it's rushing through a bunch of small details quickly. It's building up to be a climatic ending.
And i've enjoyed the watch so far, it's interesting watching these girls explore our galaxy with magic, and what magic really is in the end - it's not explained straight forward, but what the 'alien' basically describes 'magic' as is dimensional manipulation.
There's another anime that touched upon these topics... ganna go hunt it down. it was on Scy Fy for a while. |

You mean the "Subaru" anime about magical girls that ride "drive shafts" that make "engine sounds" in order to collect "engine parts" because some alien needs to fix his spaceship.
Yeah I thought it was hilarious and never watched past the second episode XD

Lucky star is cute but it's very slice of life. Toradora is sadly one of the best romance anime out there and it might ruin the rest of the genre for you it was THAT good.
My list of stuff that I'd recommend to people right at the start: Seirei no Moribito A Vision of Escaflowne Ghost in the Shell Princess Mononoke. Even though its not anime: Avatar the last airbender & the legend of Korra Jormungand (maybe) Suisei no Gargantia (maybe) Usagi Drop Toradora Fullmetal Alchemist & FMA:Brotherhood. Spice and Wolf. Read or Die (movie(s) > show)
Then I'd probably go for stuff like Isekai no Seikishin monogatari, fate/zero & fate/stay night:UBW (and eventually the movie heavens feel), Sword of the Stranger, Heroic age (it gets better upon rewatching), Macross Frontier (an excellent entry point into the macross franchise). Maybe wandering son but that show was not for everyone. Madoka Magica was also good, but it was a deconstruction of the trope and could be pretty heartbreaking.
There's a lot more I'd recommend, but right now I'm just browsing through stuff I have on my hard drive.

I went exploring again, this time to a more recent show:
Gugure! Kokkuri-san.
This is pretty much how my face was the first three episodes.
O.O
Not anything even close to what i expected. Delightful.
It somehow keeps this pace of awesome through the first 5 episodes i've seen.
what makes it so awesome?
I DONT KNOW!~!~!!!!!!!!!~
it's ******* weeeeeird. At first i thought i was watching 2 and a half men, but yaoi with animal men...
But that was quickly dismissed episode 2. Now I don't know what to think, one thinks he's her father, the other is in love, and the last is just ******* funny.
the entire show is ******* funny. This is very adult humor in a pre-teen setting, it's strangely hilarious.
Let me introduce to you the cast:
Firstly, The Heroine. Secondly, The Fox. Thirdly, The dog.Fourth, The Tanuki
jk, besides the heroine, she just doesn't normally look like that in the show, and the others are, well, sometimes in there male forms, they seem to prefer it personally, but they also seem to enjoy being female lol
They live together in a house owned by the heroine, each of the three animal men haunting her for there various reasons. in turn, they all end up serving the heroine, each to there own degree.
It's been a while since i enjoyed a good comedy, so i thought i'd give it a long shout out :) |

Weekly update:
Is it wrong to pick up girls in dungeons: WHY THE CLIFF HANGER ARRRG!~~~ Heavy fan service this week, yay. But yet again, another good episode.
Food Wars: I honestly teared up a little, this show is so heart warming, how it describes it's food is how you can describe it's emotional delivery. This is just a fantastic show all around.
I also finished up Gugure! Kokkuri-san. 8/10, i really enjoyed it, and even though it turned into episodic, it was great episodes with nice twists at the end to spark a little feels. And any show that can make me both laugh and have feels get higher then a 7.

Saturday is anime day this season, and i've started it off with Seraph of the End's new episode
Shinoba or w/e her name is, she's going to get third in my top favorite character ranking, with Holo and Taiga still keeping first and second respectively. Which bumps down Full Metal Panic's Captain Teletha "Tessa" Testarossa

I'm so glad i made this thread so i could rant in it. Because SNAFU's latest episode has the show in it's latest peak.
I will refrain from the 2 page rant i want to go on about this one episode, because so very much happened so smoothly, almost up to 3 new side stories were revealed with 2 new characters, new relationships discovered between existing characters, the mains ones delve deeper into issue of things, and unimportant side characters show a promising future role.
it's hard to talk about it all, so i won't, go watch it yourselves. But the last thing i'll say about it: that student council president chick, the freshmen, she was already developing into a pretty interesting character, but now with all the hints and suggestive tones surrounding her, she's become all the more interesting. Seems her rejection fueled more things to happen then we thought.

tbh I haven't even finished episode 1 of UBW lol
But i did catch up on Fairy Tail, which never fails to stick to it's gun and be as bad ass as possible. But this time, with a scene almost straight out of a hentai with red head captured and tortured with her pain levels increased, it looked pretty intense. |

I just finished the first season of SNAFU, and... I'm underwhelmed. I'm sorry, I really wanted it to be one of my new favorites, but I just had too many problems with it. I'm going to start with the fact that the show is called My Romantic Teen Comedy SNAFU. It had some funny parts here and there, but if I've learned anything it's that if you're going to do a gag you have to see it through to the end. So much of the comedy was either too subtle for me to really enjoy, or too subdued for me to get a good laugh out of it. However, I will say that when the comedy hit just right it was extremely well done, and the Athletic Festival was just really funny. Now, this did seem like a more serious series, so the comedy style can be viewed as a good thing. Too over the top could've ruined the entire tone of he series.
Also, wtf is with the names? Yukinoshita Yukino, Yuigahama Yui, Kawasaki Saki, Shiromeguri Meguri, Tsurumi Rumi? Hikigaya Hachiman, Hayato Hayama? Did Stan Lee write this?
Next, are the side characters. The supporting cast was actually well done. The minor ones like Saika, Ebina, Zaimokuza, and Meguri were entertaining, if a little irrelevant. Hayama came off as a genuinely good guy and he ended up being one of my favorites. Yui was actually very interesting, and really felt like she had multiple layers. Of all the characters in the show she seems like she got the furthest. Yukino... What do I say about Yukino? Well, I didn't like her. For the first 10 episodes I didn't like her. She was rude for no reason, and really flat. After she got some screen time, and managed to develop she got better. Honestly, even though I like Yui better, I think that Yukino had much better chemistry with the MC.
Speaking of Hikki, it's time we went deep into the rabbit hole. As much as this was a show about fostering relationships, and them trying to fix others' problems it was also about Hikki. Here's the thing, I understand him. I relate to him. A lot of what he said made sense. What I can't bring myself to do is agree with him. I saw a lot of myself in Hikki. The only problem was that the parts that I see are the parts I've worked very hard to suppress. This doesn't mean that Hikki is a bad protagonist, it simply means I can't like him as much as I want to.
One of the biggest problems is the same one that The Rolling Girls had. They spent so much time fixing other peoples' problems, that they barely left time for themselves. Sometimes, it felt like they didn't even accomplish anything in an episode. The changes and development were very clear when comparing the beginning to the ending, but I felt like I missed something. Some might say that's a good thing. It means the characters developed naturally, but I want to see them change. I want to see why what happens happens. I want to be able to follow the arc, and that's just something I really had trouble doing here.
As a whole it was an ok show. A thing I noticed is that I wasn't enjoying myself while watching, but that could've just been because I was marathoning and I got tired. Shows like Yuru Yuri, K-on, Engaged, I always had a smile on my face. Even shows like Usagi Drop, Angel Beats, or Chuunibyo which had more powerful emotions then just smiling and being happy made me feel more than this show did. I will say the OP was beautiful though.
Btw, Komachi best girl. She's cheerful and energetic. She's cute, and has that tooth which is enough to make me die, and obviously is very intelligent. She also has quite a devious side, playing her brother like a fiddle. Really a standout character from all the others.
TL;DR It was okay, Komachi best girl.

So with 12 episodes of the second season of MTRC under my belt, I still don't see the appeal.
The romance is beat around the bush so many times There is less comedy in this show than your average shonen
I mean the only thing they get right is how teen "romance" is usually carried out...a bunch of stalling and held back thoughts, with constant regret and misunderstanding. To me, it's just not interesting or worthwhile. Sorry, I don't want to sit through 10 minutes of boring student council drama every episode. ______________________________________________________________________________
In other news With the final episodes coming up, here's my top picks for this season:
Action - Fate/Stay Night UBW Drama - The Eden of Grisaia Romance - Plastic Memories Comedy - Nisekoi Best Overall - Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

Normal people: I have an hour and a half of free time! I'll get some laundry done, maybe pick up a few things from the store, clean up a bit...
Me: I only have three hours before work...that's not nearly enough time for all the anime I need to watch.
