The Melancholy of whatever the hell her name is - continued.
I caught up on this remake of a once great show. And with how S2 of the original series ****** everything up, you wouldn't think someone else could do worse.
and it honestly looked like this studio went for complete mediocracy in this show. But it may of been a trick all along!!
You see, i had planned on continuing the above statement with more rant after having finish episode 8. ... .....
but ....
then i saw episode 9.
O.O
THATS THE GIRL WE ALL KNEW AND LOVE~! ... But it's kinda funny the show explains this change in personality as a psychological defect, lmao.
we'll have to see in episode 10 how this continues, but the show went from mediocre - to a chance of something above average. Can't wait for next episode :3 |

starting to turn this thread into a one man show, lol.
anyways - My Teen Romantic Comedy continues to impress, and has reached a certain quality few shows get - many of my friends have dropped it because they can't keep up anymore.
Hiki is just too complicated of a character, he's a walking contradiction, but he's the PERFECT contradiction! If these fools took a moment to think about what makes him contradict his ideals and morales you would be as enthralled as i am.
this show isn't a bunch of anime characters, but very real people. This show is probably why I'm judging the others so harshly on characters, like Plastic memories, because these have so many sides to them being shown both subtly and otherwise.
This season of anime is simply just fantastic for me, best ever. |

kekkai sensen episode 10, i'm not sure if i've ever seen an episode turn from a hilarious search for lunch to something so serious so quickly. i'm amazed by how well this studio is managing to balance the main storyline with these meandering side stories and character development.

Netflix recently picked up Lost in Paradise - so i checked it out.
It's not bad, mostly just a CG anime. It's a nice reminder why I choose series over movies, especially when you have great characters.
Netflix also picked up the Madoka Magica movies. |

I'll need to check out the Madoka Magica movies. I enjoyed the series when it wasn't mentally scarring me. I do wonder where they fall in the plot. The ending of the anime didn't really leave much room for sequels.
I just finished Index, and I think I'm moving onto the second season of K-on now. Though, I hear K-on isn't very good later on.

First two movies are just the series with slightly touched up visuals and like 30 minutes of cut footage, ignore them.
The third movie is what you want to see.

Also - k-on season 2 is better then season one in a lot of ways. Season 1 was just better received as introducing and getting to know the girls was half the fun.
Season 2 takes that fun and creates a plot-line that leaves room for more seasons and growth.
I thoroughly enjoyed K-on myself :3 |

SNAFU is a great series. I too have judged other anime too harshly because of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. Between, it and Toradora, the other romcoms just do not compare. The characters in SNAFU are complicated just like real folks as you said. Spot on description of SNAFU.
Oh and by the way, Fairy Tail is still going strong. I just love that show.

However, I take exception with the romcom statement. IMO the best romcom, and easily making it into my top three anime of all time is Love, Chuunibyo, and other Delusions. The first season is an absolute masterpiece exploring the characters, how they deal with loss, and learning to accept themselves, and others. The second season continues with the strength of the first going deeper into the awkwardness between the relationship of the protagonists' and avoiding the dreaded love triangle, to bring in a likable character who despite having the potential to cause drama works towards what she feels is best for herself, and her friends. Not to mention it's funny as hell.

You can't forget Welcome to the NHK. That one was excellent.
Also, another contender for top 3 anime of all time is Angel Beats! It does everything, and it does it well. Action? Check. Romance? Check. Comedy? Check. Mystery? Check. Feels? Che... OH GOD WHY AM I CRYING!!??!?!

And i know it's a lot of peoples top 3, but it's bottom 3 for me. It does have everything, including epic plot holes that turn what was a well fleshed show, excluding half the cast has no real background, into a big question mark.
And it seems i'm the only one who has problem with how it went down.
*SPOILER*
The ending just makes no sense, explaining it based on content not found in the show or hardly explained is just excuses to the director failing to incorporate an important part of the story:
How the hell did his heart end up in her chest, when she's been around long enough to be forgotten as another entity completely?! We're not talking a few years difference, but possibly 50 to a hundred for them to be as confused about the situation as they were. Even if just 20, 10 would be just too damn much, 5 would be pushing it, to explain a heart transplant.
So then a ton of information is missing, like time-frame of the events we're even watching. The show goes from making kinda sense if you don't put too much thought into it (Character behaviors) - to shoving it in your face how little they themselves thought about it.
Everything else was enjoyable, besides that it felt like a show that should of had twice as many episodes. |

then again that might just mean i have crap taste.

The only real problem for me was that they didn't develop the side characters. Honestly though, it felt like the show had a goal it wanted to get to, and it managed to get there. With too much emphasis on the side characters it could've ruined the pacing.
Also, the ending twist was quite stupid, but I rationalized it easily. It's flat out stated that only people who either weren't satisfied with their lives, or lost their memories end up there. So I figure that Otonashi only showed up after he lost his memory. Which means he could've been floating around the void for an untold number of years. Even if that's wrong I think it brings a bigger sense to the world. Like, there's more to the universe than just what we see in the show. Other places to be.
Most people say it feels like it should've been a 24 or 25 episode series. You know your show is good when the biggest complaint about it is, "There isn't enough of it." I could be biased though, because it's main theme is my favorite theme. I really love shows that center around acceptance.

but the last episode was one that made me cry.. no where near as much as clannad or AnoHana but i cried... btw AnoHana is amazing and i love it and the sound track brings on a sad feeling in me as well. i just loved it a lot crying in the first episode was something new for me.
